adamstan
I'm currently reading Yukizakura (Snow Sakura). So far I finished 2 routes, and it's good. Thanks to whoever recommended it in one of the recommendation threads (@tynmur I think?).
Ranzo
Put a pause on Kyou's route for the moment to go after Maya cuz she's the character I liked most. I do like Kyou but her route seems meh so far. But man I'm really frustrated with 3:10 to Yuuma. I hate how slow witted Yuuma is and his weak ass teasing skills. If I was in his shoes me and Maya would probably be either inseparable or in the middle of trying to kill each other. Or both, ideally. But man, Maya is the type of girl I would definitely fall for in real life so seeing this fucking idiot fumble around is annoying me. When i read "Tsujidou-san no Jin'ai Road" 4 years ago with translators, i used the same translators you mentioned. Although i think sometimes it's still pretty hard, considering that we're talking about delinquents here, and they sometimes use some kind of an accent or just cut words. Like Azusa. Well, at least as i see it in english version. Well to some extent i do read in japanese :p, its the kanji and hiragana i'm having trouble with, but luckily MinatoSoft /Carnival novels are heavy in voiced dialogue, for the rest Mecab and Jparser do an okay job of converting kanji/hiragana to romanji (its not always perfect but most of the time its good enough) so i mainly read that while sometimes stealing glances at google translate/atlas if something feels of. Didn't know who the hell Professor Layton was prior to this but he was a cool guy, a bit too cool though in that he often overshadows Phoenix and makes him look like a total novice The overarching mystery regarding the lore of Labyrinthia and the Great Witch Bezella was good enough to keep me interested, though when it came down facing the reality and unraveling the truth behind it all it was kind of disappointing if not super underwhelming But the entire setting did make for some fun witch trials. I particularly liked the whole mob mentality / having multiple witnesses testifying together, it made cross examinations much more hectic and fun. The stakes were extremely high too, I mean you usually don't see or hear about the fate of the Guilty parties in Ace Attorney but here you get to see the results immediately >< P.S. I think this game came out before Dual Destinies but apparently Professor Layton is a follower of Professor Means Hide contents ~~ Gonna take a break from this stuff now. TexasDice
Neko-nin Exheart 2 is pretty much exactly the same deal as Neko-nin Exheart 1. It's what I would describe as "a sakura game, but someone in production actually cares". Yeah. It's stupid, it's moe so buy for porn and moe and don't expect smart things to happen. However, once again, the technical aspect is just on point. These guys at Whirlpool have their technicals on friggin point. Smooth transitions, fluid animation, great screen-effects and a very good settings menu. Nekopara has the novelty of being fully animated and hand-crafted by a factual goddess. But this Whirlpool engine is just fantastic and what I would consider it the technical bar a VN should reach when it's released in 2018. +StrikeR+
I finished the Ai's true/secret route in Tsujiou-san no Virgin Road. IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING! And that PLOT TWIST! I now also understand why its called Virgin Road, in japan the expression describes (used spoiler because its relatable to part of the plot): The march you take towards the altar when getting married To be honest with Jun'ai Road especially on Ai's route i was a bit disappointed with the protagonist, but they completely fixed that for me in this fan disk, and coupled with this story, now it all just seems like awesome character development, his pretty cool when it all comes down to it, and pretty surprising, amazing even at times! This true route is also comparable with the Agave/Kouyuki Route in Majikoi in terms of plot, action, build up and suspense, its the best one by far as far as the Tsujiou series is concerned. To go into detail, in terms of Plot the Agave one may have been more complex to be honest, but in terms of build up and suspense i believe this one takes the cake. Character wise i will also like to mention that a lot of the cast shined in this one, they managed to really make us cheer for most of our Shonan delinquents and bring them all to the spot light. Even some none delinquent ones really shined or turned out surprising, without spoiling one really big surprise was Kouchou for instance. When i started this novel i also thought that Tsujiou and Maki where at Itadaki Tatsuko's level (when she's in her serious mode), but i was wrong, as far as strength and technique goes they are definitely people who have past the wall of human strength and are probably above most 4 devas (except Momoyo of course). Them and Makoto (which so far this series indicates she's even worse) are probably some of the most powerful characters in this series universe (there's also another really powerful character introduced in this fan disk but its better i leave her discovery to you :p).... As for now... I'll see if there's any follow up in Minato Carnival FD, if not, will proceed with doing the new character's route in the Tsujidou series in Minato Carnival FD. To wrap up, i honestly think that translator was to quick to disregard the fandisk, if he would have gave it a chance i would really be surprised for him to say its not worth translating. But each to its own, if your able to play non-translated VN's you really need to play this one, Jun'ai Road was a nice read, but this is a step up in every regard, its very well done, and its a lot more action packed and with an amazing build up during many of its routes. The after stories (except for Ai's true ending) don't really add much are fairly simple and short, but Azusa's, Yoiko's and especially the true/secret Ai route are amazing! Thus i leave you with some of my favorite scene CG's as well (in spoiler but i will try to pick some that don't spoil to much): As for now... Also Virgin Road ain't the last in the Tsujidou universe, like i said Minato Carnival FD has a After After Stories for much of the cast (i haven't started it but i think the route is for their third year and adulthood, especially for Maki) and introduces a new character route, Aketashi Yui, which happens during the time Hiroshi and Ai move up towards their third year. *LATER EDIT: I made a wrong assumption just like with Anekouji, on Tsujidou's side they are not After stories but new routes, they take place one year after a certain event (basically in their third year of highschool)* Edited May 14, 2018 by +StrikeR+

+StrikeR+
I just finished the new character Aketashi Yui route in Minato Carnival FD (below in the spoiler a few selected CG's): Spoiler To be honest i wasn't really sold on her just from the cover work, but she was so cute :3 (and horny lol), since Onizuka's route had its let downs i was a bit a bit skeptic, but freaking hell, what a route! It was quite a ride! It had everything you wanted from a minato soft/carnival game! Its really mind blowing how good their fandisks are, even better then the routes in the main games lol, i seen it happen to some Majikoi routes as well. The artwork is great, her character and the cast is great, story is interesting, and i'm looking forward to the new routes (though something must've happen to Ai's VA), as i said this one isn't after stories but: It takes place 1 year after the breakup, meaning in their 3rd year of Highschool Edited May 15, 2018 by +StrikeR+
adamstan
I just finished Yukizakura. It was nice. Lighthearted high-school rom-com with a little drama. Comedy in this was really good, and characters are likeable (except for EvilGrandVizier Vice Principal of course ) The best route was definitly Saki - her relationship with Yuuji (protagonist), as well as her character had some nice developement and route had pretty good flow. Other routes were enjoyable, but significantly weaker - officially game doesn't have main heroine, but for me it feels like Saki is the one. Other notable highlights would be Misaki epilogue Spoiler I loooove "family" endings - that's why I liked Chiho ending from Princess Evangile, Hikari from Miagete or Hinata from NobleWorks. and Rei route was good too. Misato-sensei and Kozue endings were somewhat disappointing for me (the routes themselves were OK, just the endings felt little lackluster). Nice thing about this game is that other characters don't disappear when you enter heroine route. They play important role throughout whole game. OTOH there is no clear distinction between common and heroine routes, with most key events repeating, so after the first route you'll probably be skipping a lot. Character sprites and CGs were quite good for such ancient game, backgrounds were OK (except for traincar, which could use some more detail). Nice, but IMO weaker than To Heart 2, so I give it 7.5 Game can be bought really cheaply on JAST site, so you may give it a try. PS To have sound on Win7 (and upwards probably) you have to download "imaadp32.acm" codec and put it inside game directory. Otherwise it will complain that the system cannot play ADPCM and there will be no sound. Same goes for Heart De Roommate and other similar games from that era. And continuing my adventure with old VNs, I'll now try aforementioned Heart De Roommate. +StrikeR+

She also happens to be the main heroine of the Tsujidou side of Minato Carnival FD, in fact you can't touch the other routes as far as i know unless you do hers first, with that out of the way i'm off to do Ai's route :3. +StrikeR+
Finished Tsujidou Ai's route in Minato Carnival FD, and.... seems that the main route was designed to change a bit based on selections with some short ending changes based on the character you pick for the ending. That said, however short it was i really enjoyed Ai's route here, it was pretty emotional near the end, and got me teary eyed, it was a very sweet route. +StrikeR+
Well i finished the second part of the Minato Carnival FD, the part related to Anekouji Naoko to Gin'iro no Shinigami, the overall the Naoko+Kirsti route was awesome, plot, story and action was amazing and very engaging, the problem is that it left kind of opened ended/up in the air: Spoiler the relationship between Naoko, Kirsti and Shinkurou. Here are some of the CG selections: Spoiler On the other hand Lorri's route (which to be honest is more of an harem route) wasn't heavy on the plot, action and story, but relationship wise it was conclusive enough, it was pretty damn hilarious though. There was also an ending with the school president it was short, but hilarious, it really fitted her lol. As for Onizuka i already covered it, her route was great but it felt like they stopped midway as far as their relationship and herself goes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I only got the last part of this fan disk left, "Carnival VS" which is a crossover scenario for Tsujidou-san and Anekouji, on one hand i'm really looking forward to it, on the other hand, with this my wonderful journey with Minato Carnival's works ends here (The Tsujidou-san and Anekouji novels) which makes me really sad i've been immersing myself in this novels for weeks and i had SO MUCH FUN! I don't want it all to end .
Dreamysyu
So, I finished Chuusotsu earlier today. And, basically, this VN actually turned out to be really good! I'll be honest, I wasn't really impressed when I started reading it. The comedic parts are pretty funny, but they seemed a bit too simplistic (and too Japanese, I guess), and due to that the more serious parts felt kind of out of place. But then, after more serious parts of the story started to kick in, it became apparent that this way of telling the story works quite well. Actually, its simplicity imo is the main strength of this VN. It doesn't try to bombard you with difficult words and complex concepts. The dystopian world where it is set doesn't even seem futuristic, and it basically serves as a hyperbole to our own world where every person is expected to fit in and work as a part of a big mechanism. It tells a story of three girls who for different reasons didn't fit in. The messages it's trying to present are pretty simple, but in my case, while I can't say that I 100% agree with everything this VN is trying to convey, the themes it presents happened to connect pretty well to the problems some of my acquaintances had to face in the past (and also with my personal experience). With all the things said, I definitely recommend giving this VN a try. As for the score, I'm giving it 8/10. I'd give it 9 if it was a finished story, but, apparently, this VN is only the first part of an episodic story, and a lot of plot threads are left hanging. Though I need to mention that it's still a complete story, and it does works on its own, even though it's quite apparent that there's still a lot more to the story than it was show thus far. Also, wasn't Froit supposed to be Freud? PhleBuster and Plk_Lesiak

r0xm2n
In all the visual novels I've read, I've seen precisely 3 art/music teachers...... Spoiler ...And two of them are revealed to be sociopath monsters! The other one was merely a jerk.... ef - the latter tale was already a rather heavy VN (about as heavy as Grisaia at it's worst). But that revelation was really dark.... Those who have read the VN probably know exactly what I'm referring to....

Are you waiting for this side-story, or for a proper sequel? Because, if the later, then it's probably going to take a while, because a) it's not even properly announced in Japan yet, from what I understand, so it looks like it's going to take a while before we can read it in English; b) the story structure clearly suggests that this is going to be a trilogy, with the focus on different main character in each game, so if you want to read the whole story at once, you'll have to wait for the third game. Like I said, this VN is still finished thematically and works quite well on its own, So, if you're interested in it, I recommend picking it up now. Other than that, buying it is the good way to show the developer that there are people interested in their product (and thus increasing the chance that the sequel is going to come out in the near future). adamstan
Just finished another ancient VN localised by JAST - Heart de Roommate The very beginning was painfully slow, and I thought that it will be 5-6/10 max, but then it took off, grew on me, and became rather enjoyable experience. The "anime" format - complete with teasers, eyecatches, filler episodes , recap episodes etc etc - was actually fun idea, and well executed. Three main heroines were all nice in their own way, and I found their routes good. Bad first impression quickly disappeared, and I started to like them. They start out as stereotypes, but then during the story they grow out of them. Again I cannot pick best girl, as each route had its charming point, however the main heroine of the game is clearly Asumi. At the beginning, she's your anime tsundere, but as the story goes, we get to know her other sides, and some redeeming qualities I went with her route first and ended liking her very much. Next was Tomoe alias MoeMoe : Very shy at the beginning, but she grows to be stronger. And remains pretty sweet all the time. As for her ending Spoiler It took me by surprise - when they parted after graduation and as the time went by, their feelings faded out, I was like "WTF? That's it?". But then BAM! PlotTwistTM Thanks to Asumi's video message they decide to try again. Whew... Then - Marutan Loli-looking, but doesn't behave like one Her route was interesting, and quite different from typical eroge story. Spoiler The way they slowly learned what it means to love, and Marutan trying to overcome her lack of emotions. I also really liked how they didn't rush for sex at once - while each girl has 3 H-scenes, Marutan and Yusuke go all the way just in the last one. All in all that route was quite heartwarming in its own strange way The flags that Marumu often used while speaking, reminded me of the scoreboards waved by Miyako from Majikoi There are two short side-routes that are available from CG menu if you finish game without choosing any of the main girls. While I liked Namiki-oneesan as the character, her route was rather disappointing, and amounted to little more than a somewhat forced H-scene. Yoshiko-sensei story however was pretty decent. Then, after completing all main and side routes, Asumi true end is unlocked in aforementioned gallery. And it hits pretty hard (not on Key nakige levels, but still caught me) The art is great despite games age - it looks much better than Yukizakura I've read before, especially backgrounds. CGs are beautiful, and SD pictures are funny, and used well. The music was very good too - I especially liked "love theme" ("ALL-DAYS/ALL-WAY") that plays in the main menu, and "sad theme" ("Falling stars"), that we first hear at the very beginning of the game. After somewhat difficult start, this game really grew on me. 7.5/10 Continuing my exploration of ancient JAST titles, I think I'll go with Kazoku Keikaku (Family Project) next. +StrikeR+
Well i did it, i finished Minato Carnival FD: Mainly also the last scenario/mode "Carnival VS" truly worth of its name, it had a festive feel all through, AND IT WAS GREAT! Its a short scenario, BUT SO MUCH FUN! various characters are shown that where published by Minato soft, but the focus is on the Majikoi, Tsujidou-san and Anekouji characters, it is very fun to see them interact with each other and its even more hilarious when characters sharing the same voice actor interact (like Margit and Ai, Maki and Momoyo, Tora and Jun etc). Despite how good it was i did kind of got teary eyed near the end knowing that for now this is the last title directly related to their series that i can play, the scenario is also a celebration of their being 5 years since the establishment of Minato Carnival. Amazing fan disk with great content, some routes did fell like they where cut short/in the middle, but except for that all content was amazingly fun and nice!
