The Fruit of Grisaia Finally released on steam

It's hard to say, because while you can track the concurrent players and people have created formulas and systems to try to extrapolate sales data from that, it could be that most of the players are kickstarter backers and that would throw the data off completely.

I can almost guarantee you that it won't sell as well as Nekopara or the Sakura games. The price has a lot to do with that, it's well outside the range of impulse buyers.

Incidentally, it seems likely that Higurashi is selling thousands of copies and is possibly nearing 10,000 sales already so it IS possible for non-ecchi VNs to do well on Steam.

My biggest problem in the censored version would in Amane's route regarding

cannibalism

IMO it added quite a bit to the story, it made it serious.

I'm not sure if it's censored, but I heard it would be?

From what was said on the reddit thread about it, yeah the references were removed as were hscenes and certain sexual jokes

Thing is - Sekai had nothing to do with that, that was Frontwing when it initally launched the Vita version.

Personally, I think it's fine the way it is (steam version). I finished off Amane's route and feel was still well done. Reactionaries are just blowing it out of proportion.

I asked koestl on reddit and he said that frontwing asked for them to stay true to the vita script in most cases, so they actually couldn't revert most of the changes like they wanted to. There will be some changes to the script where it gets either very raunchy or very gory, the latter of which only rarely happens, the former of which does happen often with varying degrees of intensity, and I don't know where the line was drawn.

It is probably best to wait for the 18+ version so you can have the full unmodified game. It will also contain the new CGs.

One of the best parts of the Amane route was how absolutely filthy both Makina and Sachi get during it, and it would be sad if the Steam version lacked that aspect. The story won't change, so there will still be the jealousy aspects, and I'm sure there will still be some dirty jokes, but it won't be the same without #wet.  :makina:

They said on Reddit that #wet was still in the Steam version

The steam version is probably just fine except for the people that already read Grisaia (so they know what they'll miss), and the people that want to experience the exact same game as most of the other people experienced here in the west so far, which I can kinda understand if you're a big Grisaia fan already. This doesn't make the steam release bad though, it's even a release made by the same company so this means theres probably a large amount of people in Japan too that only played this version on their console. It should be no problem for people that are new to Grisaia to just pick up the steam version and enjoy it as much.

Over 11,000 owners according to Steamspy, the results of which have not been asked to be hidden from the public.

Grisaia's Steamspy page has been asked to be hidden from the public. A cache'd page put it at about 1,000 owners before the results were pulled.

Doddler said that it was at around 3,000 when it was pulled. Grisaia is probably selling reasonably, but it's definitely not lighting the charts on fire. Again, it's probably because of the price. That's to be expected. Maybe it will have a good long tail, especially when it gets heavier discounts.

I can handle it if they replace h-scenes with something else but it hurts me if they really changed angelic howl or toned down sex jokes.(I consider those things pretty huge change xd)

They added in extra CGs and such. It's the PSVita version that's on Steam it's not like Sekai was like "let's just blindly censor this, and this, and maybe this"

The price tag on Steam is what turned me off more than the h-scenes being nixed/edited/whatever. Most people are likely waiting for the dark side Denpasoft to release the porn version.

Well, porn aside. I just don't think it is worth the read if it is not how the original author made it to be, not just the h-scenes but also things like perv jokes and

censored gore like *cough* canniba---- *cough*

. I just think those just add to the personality of the characters and somehow if those were taken away, it is like it is not them anymore :(  hahaha sorry for being confusing here  :P  :P

it'd be like if they took out the mystery in Higurashi or Umineko IMO. Both of those would be boring/not fun if there was not a mystery to solve/figure out~

I agree with you, but I really wish to support English translated VNs on Steam or DRM free methods such as MG. :) If no one buys, we get none translated in English and easier to get legally.

Yeah, it is bad if that happens. I am still grateful for sekai projects for translating and selling this but it is a bit pricey for a university student like me, but if they release the adult R-18+ version then I don't care if I'm broke  B)

It is absolutely nothing like that. Taking out the mystery in Umineko would completely change the entire nature of the VN. The core components of all the story elements, including Angelic Howl, are still there in Grisaia. It's still the same story, just with some details altered. Don't be so hyperbolic.

In a sense, the argument that "it's not like the original, it's not as the author intended it" for minor changes to the script such as here are meaningless considering this is a translation. A translation already necessarily alters the flavor of the text, sometimes quite a lot. It will never be "like the original" and the best of translators won't make it "as the author intended it". There's no such clear distinction between "plot" and "prose", imo.

hmm... you're right. I knew that for a while now, I just don't know how to accept that. Maybe it's time for me to learn how to read Japanese characters  However, taking out some of the character's humor and parts of what they experience in their life gives a different kind of impression about them, you know? For example, they left out the part where Yamato from Majikoi is a sadist in bed and you might actually never thought of him or even imagine him being like that, somehow then you never actually knew the character then, right?

It's same thing if some visual novel or any other media is in English and we miss some part's because author and reader don't share same thought process or if they are from different background so I consider your argument invalid. I am simply saying that most of it depends on translator. Author nor translator can't make perfection on how they thought it should be, but they can reach closely to it (Please don't flame me I am just expressing my opinion)

Because I was totally being hyperbolic.

I wonder how bad the censorship is...

It´s a gaming platform that removed all H-scenes from nekopara...

I mean from fokking nekopara...

If people hosting steam think that a game about striptastic cat maids with a chest bounciness setting is acceptable for children just because they removed H-scenes, then I really have to question their mental state.

The first thing the kid asks would be: Hey daddy, what are those bouncy things on her chest and why do they bounce more when I slide this to the right side? Cue the parents sad faces when the game about making chocolate with the help of two cute anime girls with cat ears is not what they expected it to be.
