  1. Since we're approaching the deadline of our Kickstarter (6 days left!), we thought we'd share about our background process. That's right. We'll walk you through and through as to how our dedicated, talented artists spend sweat, blood and tears into breathing a magnificent BG art into The Letter. Don't feel too bad; it's actually their pleasure! [:D] The Letter's Background Process 2D Thumbnails We start off by planning our background composition and layout with thumbnail sketches. For the Ermengarde Mansion parlour, our lead artist (Eko) drew four quick sketches for us to choose from, putting only the larger objects that will be present in the scene. We decided to go with the fourth one for our next step. 3D Layout After picking a thumbnail to work from, our background artist (Czar) will now start layouting the scene in 3D. While we can certainly manually draw the scene line by line, using a 3D program to construct the scene helps speed up the process and allows us to easily add smaller objects to enhance the atmosphere. In this case, we added the wine table, candelabras, vase, and a clock to fill the empty space! Now that the basic layout is done, we now move on to the lineart! Lineart This is a pretty straightforward process: From our 3D program we now switch to Photoshop and start drawing our lineart based on the scene we created! We also modified parts of the lineart such as the window and the door, and drew it consistently with the design style of our mansion. Smaller details are also drawn manually such as the embellishments on the tables. Flat Colors Next we start planning our colors! Since our mansion is mostly consisted of warm colors, we decided go with the same ambience (notice how in the image the walls were originally supposed to be of a green color?). Once that is done, we can now finally start rendering the whole background! Rendering This is the process that took the most time in the entire background drawing process. Here we start to paint everything in the scene and slowly bring it to a detailed finish that is still consistent with the other backgrounds’ style! (Those patterns on the walls are actually made from our background artist’s sketch of Saitama from One-Punch Man! Cool, huh?) Lighting Many hours and three cups of coffee later, we can now add the lighting and make final adjustments to the illustration. Final Adjustments Lastly, we make adjustments to the whole picture to keep colors harmonious and bring out certain parts of the picture. Congratulations, you now have your background! What do you think? If you have any criticisms or suggestions, please feel free to comment them down below!
  2. Beta Demo | Indiegogo InDemand | Kickstarter | Steam Store Page Social Media: Facebook | Twitter | Tumblr | Official Website The Letter Horror/Drama Visual Novel's Store page is now up on Steam! Hey, everyone! The Letter's Steam Store Page and teaser trailer is now up! Please help us spread the word around! Don't forget to follow us on our our official social media pages (Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter) for quick updates! We still have more stuff to announce once as we get closer to the game's release! Please stay tuned and look forward to it! The Letter is a non-chronological, horror visual novel game with seven playable characters. It is inspired by famous Japanese horror films, Ju-On: The Grudge & The Ring, by the Korean web-comic, Bongcheon-Dong Ghost, and by horror jRPG games such as Mad Father and Corpse Party. Development for The Letter is currently work-in-progress. Once the game is complete, it will first be released on Windows, Mac and Linux. It'll then be ported mobile, for both iOS and Android, shortly after. Features: Non-chronological storytelling with seven chapters, spanning over 300,000 words. Seven playable characters with varying personality and approach to difficult situations. Countless butterfly effects; the choices and endings you get for the previous chapters heavily affect how the succeeding chapters will play out. Full English Voice Acting. Animated backgrounds and sprites. Beautifully painted art style, with over 80 backgrounds and 100 CGs. Original soundtrack, with opening and ending theme songs. Quick-Time Events (optional). Mend or break relationships. A branching tree that keeps track of your progress/route. A journal that narrates the events in chronological order, and jots down the clues found about the Ermengarde Mansion. Over 50 achievements. Synopsis: In the outskirts of Luxbourne City stands a 17th-century English mansion, rumored to be haunted by vengeful spirits. After reading a letter discovered inside on the day of its open house, seven people find themselves trapped in a vicious cycle of madness plaguing the Ermengarde Mansion for centuries. Will they be able to free themselves from it, or will they become another casualty? English Voice Cast: Amanda Lee (LeeandLie) as Isabella Santos Melissa Sternenberg (Mippa) as Rebecca Gales Howard Wang (TehExorcist) as Ashton Frey Anthony Sardinha (Antfish) as Zachary Steele Amber Lee Connors (Shudo Ranmaru) as Hannah Wright Curtis Arnott (Takahata101) as Luke Wright Elsie Lovelock (Sweet Poffin) as Marianne McCollough Amanda Julina (Amanda Gonzalez) as Amy Lorraine Jeff Werden as Andrew Clarke Steven Kelly (Sarifus) as Johannes Schröcken Natalie van Sistine (NvanSistine) as Rose Cooper Jason Marnocha (Lord Jazor) as Norman, G & Lee Brittany Lauda as Kylie Suarez Sample Voice Clips via Soundcloud Beta Demo In-game Screenshots! Download the Beta Demo via Itch.io | Beta Demo Patch Notes | Beta Demo Survey The Letter's Beta Demo (V0.2.0) is finally ready for public consumption! Thank you so much for patiently waiting, and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy the game! The beta demo is a testament to what we've been doing these past couple of months, and we're proud of how much the game has evolved since its alpha phase. This is more or less how the final game is going to look/feel like, and covers the same scenes as alpha. Except for that, every element from the first demo was changed. Beta is now feature complete, but we're continuously enhancing every aspect of the game in preparation for the full release. Please take note that not everything you'll see in this demo is final. After you finish playing the game, please answer this short survey we've prepared. We value your feedback, so please don't hesitate to tell us what you think! We'll use the data gathered to further improve the game. And as a token of our appreciation, all survey respondents will receive a special wallpaper! Questions about this new demo: 1. Do you like it? Hate it? 2. What do you think of the characters currently presented? Do you have someone you like in particular? 3. What do you think of the art style? 4. How do you find the writing style compared to the alpha demo? 5. Any other suggestions, comments, critiques? Thanks so much for your time!
  3. Black Sands would love to hear your criticism as we prepare for our KS start October 16th. A lot of effort was put into this video. Good day mortals.

But this isn’t the typical Alice in Wonderland styled story! While A Very Important Date takes a few notes from the Carroll classics, you don't have to be a big fan of them to enjoy this game for its rich dialogue, witty humor, and unique art style! Our story follows Alison Sunderlund, an average small town Ohio girl. By day she can be found working as a server in a local café and by night she takes care of her house and family: her dad and younger brother. Though she doesn't have a lot on her plate, the life she has gives her very little free time. But Alison's life changes one morning when she wakes up sitting under a tree in a brand new world. Confused, Alison sets out to discover more about her new surroundings, accidentally stumbling upon the Arkwright estate, home of Gwyn Arkwright and The Looking Glass Café. With no place to go and a way back home seeming impossible, Gwyn, being the kind soul that he is, gives Alison a job and a place to stay for the time being. Everything's peachy except... now Alison must choose which of The Looking Glass' five employees will train her! Will Alison stick with what she knows and remain a server? Will she a cut a new path as a cook's assistant? Will she wipe away her past burdens as a low-level dishwasher? Will Alison ever figure out what strange world she's in? Will she ever return to her old life? Will she want to? All stories* are written by Noëlle Hyzy, the winner of Voltage Inc.'s 4th Annual International Script Writing Contest for Romance Apps. 6. Character Trailer Hey everyone! My name is Joy and I'm the director of Spherical Studios, an Indie Game Company just starting out. Our first game is a Visual Novel by the name Wingdaria Destiny. We have a brand new demo right here! It's about 30 min long and gives a good feel for the game. Our Visual Novel is currently running on Kickstarter - The Kingdom of Wingdaria - In a medieval world where technology has only just recently seen the light of day and where no miracles can be created from hands; each and every person has to work hard for their daily bread. Sadly, the kingdom is moving into an economic crisis and the people of Wingdaria fear the worst is still to come. However, rumors say that if the princess of Wingdaria marries the prince of Rosenheim, the nation will prosper once again. Hope still remains, for the kingdom and its people, but will their wish come true? - Plot - Evan, the protagonist of our story, is a young man, who felt little purpose in life, as he lost his sight due to a terrible fate. Although recently, he has found hope again, as he has developed feelings for the lovely Princess Aria, who was kindhearted enough to save him from the streets of Arkenwall. Undoubtedly, they have become quite close, but an arranged marriage between Princess Aria and the Prince of Rosenheim will tear the couple apart. Can they escape their fate and reach the freedom they so wish for? We would really appreciate if you'd help us out and maybe spread the word a bit if you know someone who could be interested in supporting us. For more art and additional information, please visit our home page! Thanks for your attention. Kind regards A.M. Joy J.

  11. I admit I haven't played this game, but I've heard mostly good things about it (though a guy at Siliconera seemed to hate it completely). What kept me from picking it up was I didn't want to buy a game that looked like it would never be completely localized. That looks like it's about to change thanks to this kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sekaiproject/world-end-economica-complete?ref=discovery

  18. Not quite sure if adventure games count as VNs, but considering this is being made by the creators of Snatcher, which is apparently counted as a VN by VNDB, I figured this would be worth pointing out. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iqioi/blackmore-a-steampunk-adventure-game
  19. Came across this new kickstarter for a giant robot VN game and it looks really interesting: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1500482054/sunrider?ref=category Though I must say I've never heard of the guy making it or his works. Anyone here familiar with either?
