  1. I want to translate into my language. but i cant extract .npk file do you have any tool or extract .npk file to help me pls
  2. I've been trying to obtain the game lines for a rycanthropy game. As it is a Krkr2 game, with no external XP3, I've used krkr_sm.exe to detach the XP3 file. Anyway, I've succeded in extracting the file from the exe. Now, I've tried extracting the files with Crass KrkrExtract.lite Xp3viewer p3-extract arc_unpacker Garbr0 (partially, as I can view the file list but not access them, for I don't understand the encryption methods.) Translator++ (latest) All of them extract it, fine, I guess, I simple files correctly, and most of them shredded. The .ks files are all obfuscated. The thing is: no text is contained in the .ks files. Or at least not in kanji, I as would've expected. Most of them are either obfuscated or have been parsed to be in numbers and Os. Has this kind of case been documented before? I mean, it seems to be Octal. But I didn't find any kind of string here, (maybe I did it wrong [can't really tell]). I investigated a bit. And it seems this game has integrated DLLs that encode? So, I need a little bit of help. I'm not an expert, but I can handle myself a bit in programming now. But I need more opinions as to what should I do next. Because, again, if I were to decode it and then translate it.... how would the repacking go, if it mean changing the original format.
  3. As the title says, are there any known tools for extracting scripts from games made in Adobe Air? For reference, I'm trying to access the script of Trick or Alice (vndb: https://vndb.org/v8820) and it all seems to be packed into one huge "package.dat" that's over 2 million kbs. Most resources I've found about Adobe Air seem to not be applicable for patch making purposes and I haven't made much progress as of yet.
  4. Hello, I'm ziege. My actual name is of course not ziege, but my username, it means goat in German. I don't know if you wanted any of this info, but now to the actual issue: In short, VNR translates visual novels, that's why it's called Visual Novel Reader. It has a database with user submitted subtitles for visual novels. The machine translators are garbage and VNR is so old that I never except for one visual novel got it working as it should. Regardless is it the only text hooker that has user submitted subtitles. So I think it's worth preserving. Also, even after I close the application, the cursor stays blue, why is that? Now to a project idea for all developers out there: Take the user subtitles from VNR and make an application that's similar to VNR (and actually works) and runs them. I'm not yet there myself (as a dev), and therefore I allow you to steal my idea (, because I want to play Shinigami to Shoujo so bad). But if no one implements this idea, I will and that's my announcement. PS: I will call this off if you tell me how to start VNR without it crashing. Hi, I'm about to play Clannad, and am a bit confused about the dialogue choices in visual novels and when to save before you are faced with a choice that can determine the ending or route that you get or complete. Do I save when a dialogue selection menu pops up on screen, choose one of the options, proceed with the game, and then get an ending or complete a route? Afterwards, do I go back to that save I made, and choose the other option to see other events that I missed? If I do this, on the next dialogue selection, I will have to repeat that one again as well. There will probably be lots of saves in the end! I want to get all endings, see all events, etc. I hope this make sense. I would really appreciate some explanations on how multiple saves work, recommended places to save in a visual novel and what some of you guys do when it comes to saving. Thank you!
  6. So i just extracted the audio files with GARbro, they are in an OGG format, i clicked on them and nothing... so i was wondering with theres a special audio player for stuff like this? because i have no idea how to play them
  7. (before i write anything, let me just say i have never translated a game!) I may have this problem because I barely know about translator++ (the program im using to translate a game) and extracting files using its file extractor,, but when i select an .exe file of the game I want to translate an error message pops up that says ''Expected Data folder is not found. Please extract all the xp3 archives first before working with Translator++.'' (even though when i open up the game by itself it runs it like usual...) (+I have tried using the built in extractor but it has been ''working'' before and as im writing this post (...as in a long time) and i have a suspicion its because im using the file i tried to select) so if anyone has any recommendations for easy-to-use programs to extract .xp3 files, i'd be really grateful!
  8. Hello, new to the visual novel scene and community, I recently purchased a eroge off DL site. I was able to download the file for the game but it won’t launch, it has a message in Japanese. I don’t know what it says or what I have to do to get the game to run. Any help is appreciated. Some additional info that I think would be relevant is that I have all my settings to Japanese besides the language display.   10. im trying to attempt translating the vn, but i have 0 knowledge on any technical/programing stuff. thanks to a few 4chan anons, i learned to extract and repack the files using betterfpk.exe, but upon repacking the files the vn crashes even while not editing any files. acording to said anons, this is a problem, so i want to know if there are other tools, or any info on how to make this work. tsuyokiss runs on system-c by the way. any help would be apreciated

I have been looking for information both in my language and in english, but I have not found anything that goes in-depth into the topic of making a patch or hacking a visual novel to get the scripts out.

I have heard that there is some recommended way to go, and I am very worried that I will do something wrong and my experience with the game will suffer as a result. Do you have any tips on how I should play? Is it really all that important, or should I just ignore it and play it my way?

A bit of background: I am currently working on a project that would make Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy be accessible to fan-translators, and allow it to be fan translated. However, I am sort of inexperienced at programming. Not as in programming language based inexperience, but "theories" of programming, as in, "how to better structure your code", "how to debug effectively", and common things to avoid, for example not including the decryption key on the code itself, rather, make your code look for it on a particular file offset", etc. I would also like to meet someone well-versed in programming (as well as reverse engineering, preferably) so he or she can aid me whenever I run across roadblocks or have some difficulties. If you could be one of them, please feel free to leave a comment, preferably with your Discord tag as well, that would really be appreciated! Thank you.
  14. Hallo! It was romantic visual novel, where we played as a male character. I remember, that it was like mix middle ages japan with magic?and other stuff like this. There was several characters, but I remember good only one - fox/cat girl , she had black or white hair(this 2 colors, not orange or blond, or other specific colors), and there was a scene where you slept with this girl in house(Just sleep. Maybe something was described in the text, but the actual art showed just sleeping neko girl). Also I remember location with a something like small lake(it was night or this “lake” was inside a cave), I think that male protagonist woke up there, but not sure, and also it could be that protagonist was found there by another neko girl, but with orange/red hair. This one has nudity, but I saw it on YouTube and this version that I saw - had like “easy” nudity, for example in sleep scene with cat her bust was shown without nipples, maybe there is also version with full nudity, but I saw only this one. Saw it somewhere in 2017-2018, but VN could be older. Oh, and pretty sure, that there was a choice, not just text.I saw this one in russian translation, so pretty sure it has english translation too, maybe not official, but like a mod
  15. I am quite new here and this would mark my very first post here, Although, I've been kind of going back and forth on this site for a few years now. As the title suggests I wanted to know how you'd go about storyboarding based on the written drafts of a VN you're making? You see, I am an artist working with a friend of mine as an author, and well because various things we've been in what I'd call pre-development hell. I figured I'd make a fun thing for my friend to hopefully get him back to writing again. I know it might not even work, but even if it's just that piece of work, I still would love to have my friend's vision and mine to be at least created. And for that, I was wondering how you'd go about storyboarding the scene? I have some background on some storyboarding work, although mainly from animation so I'm not quite sure if it'd be similar to how it is in a medium like VNs. So I'd greatly appreciate if you guys could give me some advice! And if you have other things you'd like to say as well, feel free to do so!

Yesterday I downloaded Cartagra «Rebirth FHD Size Edition» (Innocent Grey / Gungnir), mostly because of the remastered character sprites and backgrounds, but I've come across a wall at the moment of extracting them. Unlike previous games, this one has the images in a .cz file format, and so I can't view them or convert them to PNG. I've noticed that GarBro is able to view some of these .cz files, so I did some digging and it seems it's because of this: The files with CZ1 work fine. The ones I'm interested in have this and GarBro can't view them. If I manually change it to CZ0, CZ1 or CZ3, it does "work" and GarBro can view them, but the image ends up being really, really distorted. I'm not sure if this is some kind of compression or encryption thing, but this is where I'm at right now, so any help would be highly appreciated. I'm not sure where to go from here, I just want to be able to convert them to PNG, at least. If there are any tools or scripts that may be able to help, please let me know!
  17. I am trying to translate this game but every time I try the translation I get this error I only get that error when I want to start a new game or after choosing. The translation works fine when I view the scenes separately in the gallery.   18. Hey everyone, I've been working with Interstellar Focus, but there's a problem, the space between lines is too large and wastes space. Combine that with the fact that English takes up more space than Japanese, then we have a problem. Here's an example of the text box in Interstellar Focus: and here's how it appears in the main game: It's my first time doing this kind of thing, so I am not quite sure what to do or where to look. There are also times where, no matter how much I can possibly increase the amount that can fit into the textbox, there will be some words dropped. I'm concerned that this might become a problem when an extra explanation is needed to bridge cultural gaps. Is there also a way to add more "dialogue", like more textboxes?   20. So, not a long time ago I've read G-senjou no Maou, liked it, and thus would like to translate it (into russian). Despite all the hardships encountered, I unpacked data.xp3, changed some scenario content and packed it back(to test it). All works, so I've tried to get my hands on patch.xp3 and patch2.xp3, but KiriKiriExtract doesn't recognize these two files as archives, same for GarBro, arc_conv, UniExtract2 etc. I tried everything I could possibly find, but with no result. Maybe it's something related to encryption of these files? I would appreciate any help, if you offer any.
  21. Hi everyone. My current translating project has left me quite confused and I don't even know where to begin. I've been translating and writing an English script for Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou by DUKE in my free time for almost a year now. I've got around an hour or two of content translated but I have zero programming knowledge or experience. Jisatsu 101 is out of circulation and less-than-legal digital copies barely work on a WindowsXP VM (I tried to get the game installed on a Windows98 VM but it didn't work). Is there any chance of being able to patch and port the game to modern OS? If so, how would I go about doing that? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Their official webpage is down and they haven’t logged onto kickstarter in a couple months. They have another game on steam under their studio but this one isn’t listed anywhere I could easily find. Does anyone know where I can find a download link for it or some place to buy it from? It looks real fun and it would be a shame to let it be lost imo.

Hello, I just wanted to know if there is a way to edit the contents of Harem Tengoku da to Omottara Yandere Jigoku Datta, since I just wanted to change the text box of the game since it's transparent and I'm using a OCR to translate the texts. The transparency kinda gets in the way when it's getting translated. Thank you in advance!~

The song in question: http://0x0.st/olQT.mp3 There's a freely-available amateur VN that seems to "borrow" music from other sources including anime and other VNs and, while I've been able to identify all of the other songs used in this aforementioned amateur VN, this one song has alluded me even when trying to use reverse music search, so I figured I'd ask here and see if anybody knows of the original source of this song. One key thing though is that the song is loopable as-is which implies to me that it was taken directly from a game or VN (though possibly still re-encoded to MP3 considering that 99.999% of PC VNs tend to use either LPCM, midi, ADPCM, OGG vorbis, or Opus) - note that I've made no alterations to the file in question (unless you count the file name being stripped out by the temporary file host that I'm using) so, yes, the metadata was indeed completely blank. For reference, I did try asking the author/dev (it's just 1 person) of the aforementioned amateur VN but that hasn't really gotten anywhere other than learning that the author basically hates doing audio work and just leaves that stuff to the last minute, and I'm getting the impression that they don't particularly seem to keep track of what they've previously done with their audio assets when putting together a new version of their amateur VN. This also greatly implies that the song was also not edited by the author/dev which and that the seamless loop was added/edited after-the-fact, leading farther credence that the song is from a game or VN.
  25. Hello, I'm translating a visual Nobel called Kenga Kimi from Rejet. In this game, if you set the entry name, the characters call the default name by voice. Therefore, I would like to change the entry name to english when translating. What should I do in this case? I think the entry name is set in the exe file, but I can't modify it due to my lack of ability. It's based on the Unity engine.
