  1. Book of Zhu: Legacy is a visual novel starring Aya, princess, martial artist, and future empress of the Zhu empire, who will find herself faced with the reality of what the future holds for her. The world depicted in-game is inspired by Wuxia films, as well as anime such as Fist of the North Star, Kenichi, and Katanagatari, and is being painstakingly brought to life by my team and I for this Visual Novel and beyond. Over the course of the game you will experience firsthand the upper class of society within the country of Zhu, glimpses of the larger world, and of course many martial arts battles. The game will follow a central storyline focusing on Aya and how her life starts to change over the course of about a year, with differing choices available that change the details presented during the story and what aspects of the world come into focus. In addition to the central storyline there are several side paths focusing on specific characters that are mostly determined by who you spend the most time with and whose story you progress the most during the early parts of the game, though some alternate versions of paths are triggered by hidden flags and events. Some of these will be romantic in focus, but others will allow you to see different sides of various characters, experience different aspects of the world, as well as different fight sequences. The game will also be free. Aya: The protagonist, heiress to both the Imperial Throne and her family's martial arts style. She is a girl eager to prove herself as both a future leader and a fighter to her mother, the Empress. Rin: Aya's cousin and a fellow princess. She is renowned for both her beauty and talent in the magical arts. She doesn't take her position seriously and prefers to indulge in pleasure instead of studying or training. Rani: Aya's loyal bodyguard and best friend. Despite living in the palace she has a reputation as a thug and spends a lot of her free time dealing with low-lifes and delinquents. Dokura : Rani’s mother, loyal retainer for the Imperial family, and one of the Empire's most respected warriors. She is seen by Aya as an aunt of sorts, someone always looking out for her that she can turn to. The Empress: Aya's mother and the absolute ruler of their people. She is loved as a living representation of Zhu tradition and feared for the swift and harsh retribution that tradition demands. For better or worse every action she makes is part of a legacy she will leave behind for Aya someday. There are many more characters than just those, so expect more soon. Lekkuen (me): Head Designer/Head Writer - The creator of the setting and main creative voice behind the project. Mahenbu: Lead Artist - An artist who has worked on several games and other projects. Welcome to the Rift, a dimensional tear located in Canaan where the ancient gods were created and where you must prove your worthiness to lead the world of men. You have allies and the training needed to fight, but nothing will prepare you for the wonders and horrors of the unstable plains in the Rift. Manage Respect, Relationships, and Mental will when making decisions. Assigning team members to missions best suited for them. Discovering weaknesses to epic enemies through investigations. Collecting real world lore and in game lore by discovering hidden items. Unlocking secrets of the past by collecting memory gems. Making timed decisions and avoiding damage in high intensity situations. Leveling up your characters to specialize in unique skills. Time In the game, everything will cost time to complete and characters may be away, unable to do a task available. Time is managed by the player and he has 6 months to prepare to face Nun. Special events will happen at certain times such as full moon cycles, changing of season, etc. This will give the player a level of management that makes them feel immersed. Leveling Each character has core stats which helps them succeed in feats. Completing certain missions and training will gain you very limited talent points to specialize your character in lore friendly ways. Respect You are a leader. You must earn the respect of your soldiers! Decisions you make and the success of those decisions will affect the confidence your allies have in you. If you fail a lot, they will lose confidence and go rogue during critical decisions. You may even lose command. A true Pharaoh never loses command… Kinship While how successful you are in decision making and your sense in the field affects the way they see you, it does not help one bit on how they think of you as a person. In order to get on their good side, you must appeal to their innate personalities. One cannot please everyone so make your choices wisely. It is worth noting that Kinship affects how allies act when not around you or when not commanded. Stability You are the strongest. Unfortunately, you are also the most flawed… You have an issue with Dementia and you must suppress these voices throughout your time in the Rift. The tradeoff is considerable though because when you were young, and you let the voices run wild, you could do things others could only dream of. In these dark days, will you allow your mind to slip in order to wield more power or will you avoid such pleasures and rely on knowledge of self? The rift has stood for thousands of years, since the day Nun arrived from the planet Nibiru. Located in the barren lands of Canaan, this void was created to keep the outside world uncontaminated while Nun worked on his creations. He spent centuries studying the humans and when he figured out this world, he created ancients similar to the life found on his home planet. They warred with each other inside the Rift until only 3 families remained. When they left the Rift, Nun used a stability gem to alter reality and hide the incomprehensible damage done. But now, thousands of years since the great sundering, Nun has created another race of beings to combat his creations from ions past. In order for them to prove themselves, they must survive the Rift, as it were during the time of the ancients. Stability is no more! Can the mortals survive the Trials of the Rift? There are many different types of quests in Black Sands. We will briefly go through some of them to better understand the gameplay mechanics involved in each. In Black Sands, time, health, and deployment all work against you as you stride to prepare yourself for the final battle with Nun. Scouting - designed to seek new quests exclusively. Minimal danger Investigation - A quest that requires discipline and perception. Player must decipher material and decide what is important and not. Proper investigation rewards secrets. Tracking - This is an extremely heavy skill check category that requires quick decision making and a little luck. These missions are available only once before they go back into the quest pool. Social - This is a quest where you develop relationships with the other characters and learn more about them. Instant Events - Automatically happen when certain criteria are met. May have nothing to do with prior tasks. Group Events - The entire group must participate. Nun will go over your notes and inspect your facility whenever this happens. Epic Events - Storyline Events that are either triggered by actions or chose by the player. These tend to have more decision making then other events. Exploration - A quest designed to explore unknown locations. These quests have no prior knowledge so player must use their wits to move forward. The farther you get, the better the rewards. These missions can be ended at any time but there is no guarantee you can return. This game is directly inspired by Dragon Age and Telltale. Their strong narratives and crucial game changing decisions inspired me to design a visual novel unlike any before it. Additional motivation was found in the way Hollywood depicts middle eastern and Saharan people. We do a lot of research and use annotations in game to teach the actual history behind the fantasy of our world. Future We will be converting all sprites to Live2d and making them look a bit more realistic and 20x more brutal. The goal is to make this like Conan while having the art leveling of pixar, dreamworks. How can I help?   10. A collaborative group of friends and I decided one summer's day to begin creating a visual novel like no other. Turmoil of the Seven is a sci-fi RPG visual novel that takes seven factions of cultures widely known around the world, and places them in a futuristic, but chaotic universe. The protagonists of the Visual Novels depend on which of the four characters you would choose to pick. Tristen Talon, Ryou Hidekari, and Heinz Ritter are currently the three protagonists we have right now, the fourth protagonist is still being decided. The seven factions in the game are: The Alliance of Free Systems, The Honorable Shogunate of Hidekari, The Imperium of Weisslande, The Holy Mandate of Alvan, The Absolute and Royal Systems of Arthuria, The Galacian Empire of Alyssandria, and finally, The Union of Ursan Republics. These seven factions are the primary forces in the game right now, while we are currently creating minor factions that will be somewhat nomadic during gameplay. As our protagonist awakes in this strange land, he's quickly introduced to concept of Samsara; the journey across Tattva that all "Wanderers" must undergo to cleanse themselves of sin. Some features include a morality system, which will change the way characters interact with you and dictate certain events across the world of Tattva, a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired tabletop exploration system, featuring a number of interesting and unique locations, and a turn-based combat system with a unique twist - instead of just fighting, enemies can also be conversed with, randomly generated with one of many possible personalities per-type of enemy. Quantum Crusaders is an epic, scifi/fantasy, comedy about three brothers whom are recruited by the Cosmic Federation to fight against the forces of the Kor. The visual novel will have the choice of choosing between James Alderic Knight, Robert Knight, and David Knight. We also have a yuri route planned if we get into stretch goal territory. It still has a ways to go before it is finished, but I think I've got a pretty good start on it at least. You are a first year student at the school, with a gift for Control magic. With this gift, you will develop spells that can be used to help others... or bend them to your will. Will you resist temptation to become a true hero, allow yourself a few minor indulgences along the way, or take advantage of your powers to take complete control of everyone around you? My main goal with the story is to give a lot of focus to player choice. Growing up, I was always disappointed with games such as Fable that promised a deep and rich system where you can be whatever you want to be, only to limit you to maybe 3-4 meaningful choices throughout the entire story. In this game, not only will you get to make numerous plot-changing decisions, but nearly every scene will allow you to cast the spells you've learned on the person you are speaking to. If you see the spell menu icon appear, it means at least one of the spells you can learn could be used in that scene. And the spell menu icon appears in nearly every scene. The Art When I first began work on the project, I was a horrible artist and had no money to pay for art. That has changed over the last year and more than half of my old art has now been replaced with higher quality artwork from other artists, and I have a goal of replacing the rest of my old art, especially the awful backgrounds, as quickly as possible. Lately im going translate more info about synopsis, about our heroes and ongoing news about project. Hi! I’m the head writer and author of the idea of Everlasting Cold. I'll tell you more about our project and explain some of details in this post. Also it should be noticed that English is not our team's native language, so this text right bellow can be a little rough. About our story. One of the main target for story – "globalising" from the start to the end. So it starts with simple idea – protagonist gets to a student base placed far away from civilisation. And this base is not from our world. It looks positive and kind, and it seems nothing bad will happen here. That's not the worst place to spend your last days of life… …Last days? Yes – this place is going to die. And all who lives here too. Can you change it? Can you stop it? Or you just want to take a rest before death? More strange things will happen then. More new characters will be involved to the story. It starts with just one hero but will grow and grow. It transforms into game about this world. Then – many worlds like this place but not only one parallel world system. Right now we have more then 10 characters in our story and 5 chapters that contains around 160 000 words. Story includes 3 big parts. First one is now complete. There is about 15 hours of gemeplay. Our objective time – ~60 hours. And if we will have enough support we can extend our universe for more chapters and side-chapters about LORE, characters or just interesting filler stories in it. Which genre is it? It is a complex story, so it consist of a lot of different things, Sometime it goes more psychologic thriller, sometime more like detective. also it contains a lot of philosophy about life in society, some magic, things bring us to fights, violence, sex, MORE MAGIC AND BATTLES and more philosophy. It's really hard to explain a genre of Everlasting Cold. It’s a complex composition of many things I want to see in one story. What is the main problem for us? Before I answer this question, I have to explain one important thing about this project. It’s a long story, but it will help you to understand our present situation. I started this novel at 27'th January of 2015. And started with simple idea whith a story about a man, who tired of world he lives in and can’t find place for himself. And those days I was alone without resources and experience in making novels. But the idea looked interesting. So I made one of the most decision – take some graphics from another project to design the novel. So as my goal was to create interesting story and show it to people. It doesn't looks bad. I never wanted to make it commercial or so, just tried to find more audience to read it. You can say it's bad idea or not, so it is a really long discussion, but that was the start. Soon after that some people read the story and enjoy it. Some was inspired of idea and joined to team that started to grow. Arts, music and technical parts came to the project after that. And it goes bigger. We tried to work enthusiastic. But it's not so efficient. So in fact it is some sort of modification (but almost nothing similar with novel I took resources from). At 11.17.2016 we finished 1st part of story. And for now it’s bigger and way more complex then novel I took resources from. And we come to the conclusion “we can't move forward as a mod. We must to transform it to a full and independent novel”. But major problem is just like at start – we don't have enough good artists who can draw a lot of backgrounds, arts, sprites to make it looks at almost professional level (I don’t think a good idea would be making average graphic content. Because it's a face of whole project, that's how it looks, how it feels. It's really important). So now we are looking for artist who can help us. And looking for support to hire good artist. But! Novels in our region are almost dead. #Minimal demand, poor audience, (that’s why it's almost impossible to make non-pop novels here. Forgot to say – we are from Russia). And the only way to continue working on this big project is to translate it into English. How it will looks as independent project? It will be not just simple change of some resources. For now I call it like “Rebuild” version. As I said – I start it with small idea and then team. In those days I didn’t know how big it will be. Opening chapters are not as good, as I want to. And it's not for wide audience – some things might take big attention to details. So we are working on complete rewriting of opening chapters. Add new characters in it, solve some misc LORE differences with later chapters, #improve some character's identity, totally build our own setting. That's a lot of work for now. Characters which was taken from that novel will be redesign completely and redrawn. As all backgrounds. So as “Rebuild” version it would looks a lot different as it looks now. What is our main goal for now? Finish 1st chapter and make it readable and playable again in Russian and English languages. We need to hire a high quality translator for this. Text have to look perfect (not like this post :D). So any support can help us to speed up this process. This is because I spend a lot of time trying to find somebody, who can help us and spend thousands of hours to discuss it and it's not really helps a lot. So if I can focus on scenario and we will not have problems with graphics, we can release it faster then current development speed. Just a quick answers at the end. Will it be free? ZodiaX is in extremely early development. Currently, the game is targeted towards Yaoi audiences, though when we finally begin a KS, we plan to add a funding goal that, if met, will allow us to use a female character as the main protagonist.   19. The Cycle of Magic - A Prelude is a free to play Original Visual Novel with a fantasy setting. It was originally meant to be a project submitted to the Summer Novel Festival a year ago, and therefore neither involves money or will surpass a play-length of two hours. The protagonist is Zevair - a tall, imposing demon male who is the last of his kind after a mass exodus that followed the supposed death of the magical energy that once flowed through the land. Players will follow Zevair on a small, yet integral part of his journey, where he is asked to find the young granddaughter of an old woman who had been attacked by the girl's kidnapper. In the "New World" where Zevair is feared and judged simply for his appearance by the youthful humanity, Zevair will discover that not all is at it seems, for there is a mystery to the girl, and a connection that neither of them dared believe real. As it stands, the character sprites are complete. There are only three integral characters in the story: Zevair, the girl, and Zevair's mother, who plays a small, yet important part of the story. This is Zevair - the protagonist of this short story. Despite his tall and imposing stature, Zevair is quite a stand-up fellow, and does what he can to help the people he comes across, even if they're never grateful and try to drive him away. Ten years of solitude have eaten away at his spirits, but he continues to drive forward regardless. This is Zevair's mother - Jezela. She has a superiority complex towards humanity, and considers them to be naught but insects. Very hoity toity and proud, Jezela was once much warmer as a mother than she ended up in the end. This is the girl who Zevair must rescue. About ten years of age. The above artwork is done by akkalime. You can see some more of her work HERE In regards to required assets, I am still in need of an individual willing to work on three to five musical numbers that have an overall genre of mystical fantasy. One song in particular is extra important, and is a lullaby. I already have the melody and lyrics I wish to use, I simply need someone who can bring it to life. Details of the needed assets can be provided upon inquiry. I am also in need of someone who can make a project logo. It doesn't have to be super amazing, but still be decent for the sake of clarity and fitting the overall feel of the project. I hope that this project can be completed and brought to those who enjoy visual novels, and I intend to work on a larger project in the future that will continue this world's story.   20. Hi! Recently I have been creating a new world to set stories in. I am creating a series of shorter games and comics exploring this world. While I am not completely done, I feel as though your feedback would be very much welcome. I want to include you peeps in the development process. What is it? Rooted follows a town built on top of a giant creature wandering through the world. The town is mostly self sufficient - they grow crops and trees on the creature, harvest the giant fur to sew clothes and other materials, and mine the horns of the creature to create more sturdy things such as weapons and foundations. Every once in a while, the creature ceases its endless trot to slumber. For a short while, the giantfolk can visit the ground to trade and mingle before the creature wakes up. To the people living on the creature there are two worlds. The familiar and constant soft and furry world of the town set in the fur of the creature, and the ever changing, moving world of the ground. The world of the ground is always different , forever changing as the creature continues walking onwards. The creature folk are forever moving this way, but also forever rooted to the creature. Intent I want to explore how life on the creature is. To explore their world and use that in context of my own worldview to gain a better understanding of myself. Does the townfolk ever feel trapped? Do their youth run away to the unknown ground world? Does the town traditionally reproduce with people from the ground world to increase their gene pool? What does the ground world think of the creature? What if a city is trampled down, does people get angry and what do they do about it? What happens when they meet another creature with a townt? What if their giant is a predator, for example a spider? Those are some potential plotlines set in this world. For now I am still creating the world and establishing just how it works though! When he sees someone in trouble, he feels compelled to help them whether they be a family member, close friend or even a stranger. He started practicing jujutsu(an old kind of martial art) and kendo together with his childhood friend Kogara Sachi at the age of five, but stopped after breaking a bully's arm in a fit of rage. Besides his fruitless dreams of having his own harem, all he wants to do is become a NEET/hikikomori. It is not to be though, as Sachi has made a habit of waking him up and dragging him off to school whether he likes it or not. Kusanagi can be a charming, intelligent man when he has to, and knows how to carry himself in a fight whether it be fought with the sword, shinai, or his fists alone. Kogara Sachi Sachi is Kusanagi’s childhood friend since she was five, when Kusanagi saved her from a pack of stray dogs (which she believed to be wolves.) From then, she has helped him with everything from preparing his daily meals to helping him study. They both started martial arts around the same age, a sport that fostered their friendship and rivalry. Alvaerele Ikeshia Ikeshia the elven princess of Alfheim, who after the death of her brother she was declared the next heir to the throne by her father. She is very cold in nature and trusts no one else other than her father and her maid Elisven. Elisven Elisven is a maid at the elven palace (and Princess Ikeshia’s personal and most trusted maid, despite being somewhat awkward.) Due to her more darker skin tone, she has always been seen as a spy of the dark elves; thus, she has always been bullied and persecuted while growing up. Even now, after many years in service to Princess, she is often threatened and sometimes beaten by prejudiced individuals who still believes she’s only a spy. She is extremely loyal and feels indebted to the princess for seeing what she truly is beyond her physical appearance. To remedy the situation he decides to issue a true test of demonic will power. The Chaos Championship An all out competition between the three highest ranking demons in Hell to see who can destroy and spread what Satan will deem as true Chaos. The victor is offered their very own circle of Hell to rule over. An entire domain personalized to their tastes, no request too large! Faced with this irresistible offer, Jaya, Meridia and Kijo agree to undertake the challenge in order to prove which one of them is the greatest demon in all of Hell. The Demons Meridia Resident bookworm and owner of the nicest hair in all of Hell. A stern believer in rules and an aspiring writer. (Rumor has it her books aren't very good) Her ghostly companion follows her wherever she goes and tries to keep her safe. (Emphasis on tries.) She decides that using demons is the best way to win the Chaos Championship. What better way to raise Hell than using Hell itself? Physically the strongest of all demons and she is usually seen bragging about it. She decides to invade Heaven in an attempt to win the Chaos Championship. Everything is too much of a hassle and she has a difficult time controlling her sudden personality flips.
