  1. So I am currently translating the a PC port of Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram from Chinese to English. It shouldn't be that hard since a translation of all the text exists but the problem is that I don't know how to edit or open RPYB files, if I can't open those files I can't edit the text for the Novel. So does anyone know how to edit and open these RPYB files?
  2. Hello everyone, I want to make a visual novel with branching stories and a lot of choices with many endings. But Art style hinder me. What kind of art style most people like? Is it Japan anime style or Western style? Which one do you like from the picture under this text? And which kind of story people will like the most? Does Romance visual novel is too mainstream? I have plan for 1. Fantasy Romance, 2. Crime/Supernatural/Romance, 3.Horror/Thriller/Romance, 4.Romance/Drama and 5.Romance/Comedy. Please help me guys~ Thank you so much!
  3. A question came to me just now, a few days away from finishing a project for a VN: Should I ask the creator of the VN if I can do what I made? Or... should I be like a ninja and just release it on the shadows and then expect the worst? The first answer that comes to mind is DON'T. I lived through No Name Losers drama, and then the CAUCASUS drama (the only ones I knew about) and learned from them that if the creator knew, they pretty much were going to be over you, lawyers in hand, to make you stop with C&D and, if gone overboard, court. It is scary, and this monster in my head is getting pretty big as time goes past. But it isn't something that will make me stop. I've been working on this project for about five~six years, I'm not just going press delete on that folder. I know in the very end I'll release it as NNL did, no matter what. It doesn't really matter if I'm going to do whatever I want to in the end. xD That brings me to the DO IT. Doing it might bring some praise. (Though it's ego, I'm aware of it, having the creator telling you 'it's ok', 'amazing', etc, I believe it's pure gold. e.g. Ryukishi07's letter to Witch Hunt.) At the minimum that'll be all, at the worst will be trials, or something like that... What I'm trying to say is: I don't really know what happens once you post a release. Will I be damned or... nothing will happen? E.g. I just see Amaterasu's group releasing translations but I don't know if they actually asked the creator for it... or Steins' group, and several translations like them... I... don't know. D: What do you guys think? By the way if someone knows of other drama, do tell, I'd like to know about them.
  4. Vritra is the Dragon King of the Asura. Hindu culture speaks of highly advanced gods and wild imagery. Vritra is not evil and measured in his actions. Feel free to leave explanations to your decision below
  5. This is my first time doing something like this. Though I am confident in my abilities, so i believe i can at least make a decent one. This is gonna be really tough. I have to work on everything. I haven't done much programming but this will be a good way to get experience. The story is one of the things i'm good at so I wont need to worry much. Music is also is a alright thing i can do. I can't create symphonies or anything but it's something lol. Art ugh probably the most difficult thing ill be doing. I suck at it xD. Don't worry though i have an idea for that. The only reason i'm even making this post is because i'm excited about this. It's gonna take a while but ill do it. Right now i'm in the process of making the story. So i'll come again some other time with progress made on it. That's it for now. Byee!
  6. Hi. I have been working on a visual novel. I'm not an artist though and unfortunately do have any money to hire an artist so I am a bit stuck having to do the art myself. I decided to go with rendering scenes with three models and was hoping to get an idea if the artwork is passable or not. However, I can't figured out how to put the pictures in the post. Sorry (believe me, I know it is stupid and I only have myself to blame, but the only thing I can do is apologise for the inconvenience, and I do know that there is a simple solution, sorry again). I put in a link (http://pandadeath.com/annes-book) (I really don't know if that is against some kind of internet protocol manners, if it is then I am sorry for that and maybe one day will figure out how to put the picture in the post. Thanks.
  7. Hi! I'm planning on developing a visual novel titled "Reset", a mystery horror anime, since I know how to write the script for a visual novel. However, I cannot draw at all and I'm quite frankly, well, terrible at it. If there's any artist out there who is willing to draw some characters on a computer with some description of what I imagine them to look like, I'd greatly appreciate it and be in debt from your assistance! Thank you.
  8. This game has been out since, like, forever, right? How come there is no translated version of it? Has it ever been worked on? If so, who and why did they stop? Can anyone pick it back up again?
  9. This has been a known subject in a certain VN community for a while, but I think now is the right time for this place to know about it. Here's the deal: the translator of Angel Beats TL project just posted a video showing proof of that this translation isn't a complete lie, and this has been going on for 2-2,5 moths by my rough estimate. Here's the video The translator also posted a survey on if the audience wants honorifics to be present in the translation, and about a partial patch and on what route it may be on: http://goo.gl/forms/IvT6fM4cpQ Here's the progress thus far, albeit in a little more peculiar form, but it's there nontheless: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hNQ-u36mto5xgYT_zPGikLGbu95XwrF5fx9m0KnGJac/edit#gid=0 I'll try to update this thread always when a new TL update comes around
  10. Hello guys! This is my first post in this forum (loving it btw ). Im pretty new to the VN world, I got immediately hooked by this genre of games and I would like to support them by starting a fan translation project of a VN that I've had an eye on for a long time since I started reading them. The only concerns I have regarding this are the following: 1- Could someone like me, who doesn't know a bit of japanese (I can understand spoken jap a little bit but can't read at all) start a Fan translation project? That being said I am looking for a way of extracting the scripts for the game to be able to translate it (game has 6 years already) and I could fill the position of what is called Hacker and Editor. 2- Is there some kind of website/post/thread that talks about how to manage a fan translation team or how to start a Fan translation project for newbies like me ? I'm talking about how to set up an organized team to work swiftly in the best way possible and how to make the post thread of my project as clear and informative as possible so everyone knows how everything would be managed and the general info as well as attracting people to recruit (I do think there are a lot of people interested in entering a project but I don't know where or how should I post threads about recruiting people for one). I hope that everything is clear, I'm pretty nervous because this is my first post . I would love to hear your thoughts, since I'm lost and would like some advice.
  11. I'm no translator but I'm looking to expand this project and break its chains out of Hongfire because things are going slow and Full translation with the current team seems impossible so since no one will make this project known i figured Id spread the word. 12. I was thinking of making a visual novel about the police state in america but on a completely different planet with different species. It would be just like it is in america and the premise of the game is... "You are a rookie officer in the (name of country) forces and you want to help the people of your nation by being an outstanding officer that follows the constitution. The problem? The force breaks every law in the book and has special privileges. How will you survive as an officer in a force where good officers are sent into dangerous situations with no back up, get shot by off-duty officers during "mistaken" situations, get blackmailed, commit suicide (in some of the most impossible to be suicidal ways), and get framed all the time. You will have to decide when being good won't get you killed. You will have to do some dirty stuff to keep you "credibility" up with fellow officers. You will have to do "busy work" that will lower your public respect but get you promotions. A rookie can't stop a system so you have to work your way up and collect as much dirt as possible. On top of that, you will have to worry about the prosecutors and judges who are also on the corrupt side. For hard mode, choose a minority race for your character."
  13. I will give my example first. I run a team developing Black Sands and it consist of the following: 1 artist - does BGs, CGs, Animations 2 programmers - one does the core mechanics and script, the other does special effects. 1 composer - makes musical tracks and undertones 2 voice actors. 1 co-writer which handles proofreading, rewriting, and editing of both Legends of the Rift and Sons of Nibiru Throughout the development, we never argue about roles. It seems that the way I handle responsibilities and critiques seems to be acceptable for the group as a whole. Everyone has their own task and never need to do someone else' work. I keep my artist happy by allowing him pure freedom to design everything as he sees fit so long as he sticks to a couple of core concepts. I never ask people to overhaul their work unless they notice something glaring. As a result, they most of the time spot something and jump head over heel to fix it without me demanding it. My composer has freedom to make songs but at first, he didnt understand VN music. It took a while for him to understand the repetitive aspect of it but now he is knocking songs out every 2 weeks. My voice actors as doing a damn good job staying in character and I gave them complete freedom to change up ANY LINES that were not deliverable in character or unnatural sounding. This made our lines sound way better in conversation then originally written. We then change those lines in the script to fit the narrative. Finally my writer is given 100% freedom to embellish on any chapter I create. He can make it super wordy like a lord of the rings description and I let it fly. As a result, he keeps motivated to push more content whenever it is available. In the end, I am happy that I am not dealing with any drama at all with my team and I am wondering what you other devs are doing and how management is going for you?
  14. So, I've been thinking. As you may or may not know, Bishoujo Mangekyou -Norowareshi Densetsu no Shoujo- (https://vndb.org/v8038) got a Finnish translation a few dozen days ago, and I was thinking that it's a shame that it doesn't have an English translation. As I'm a native finn and have been studying English for a long time and have adequate skills in it, I thought it would be great to TL this title from Finnish to English. The quality of the TL will be unknown as I have only looked the Japanese text only so much, but the Finnish to English part would be completed fairly skillfully. I myself think it would be a great project for me at the moment, and it would help brush up my English skills. I have no experience in VN editing and such, so I will be only translating the title. Now, the question is if you, would want to see this come to reality? If you do, great. I will put up the website and such once the TL is in adequate state, and look for editors, quality checkers and so on. Please, do leave your opinion for somewhere me to see.

  16. I'm not really sure if the new has reached Fuwa's community, but a patch was made by a Beast Lair Forum user that has patched Mahoutsukai's first 5 chapters. Hopefully the news of this patch has reached CommieSubs and they can get off their butts and finish the dang thing. Link to Patch (look for the 8th post on the page): http://forums.nrvnqsr.com/showthread.php/34-Mahoutsukai-no-Yoru-Patch-for-Chapters-1-5-released/page226
  17. I have seen so many users saying "I can make a visual novel with [name_engine] , its so better than [name_engine_2] because [name_reason]." Yet they forgotten that there are always bad things in a engine, you could fall for paying such engine to only discover that it has no way to make that dream game. This is why why i'm listing well known vn engines and their cons, I hope the guide will help you pick the right engine for you not the company. renpy - One of the most known engine in the world (i'm not kidding), it uses python language to make vn. It's being updated as much as it can and also people have been able to make rpg from it. The main reason people choose this over any other engine is due to the freedom to add anything, learning python takes a while but most people have the novels stay in dating sims or storyline. Another key reason it's used is due to the fact that it can make windows, linux, mac, android, and IOS, which is very great advantage for anyone wanting to build games in a certain area or so. Finally it can be use for commercial and non-commercial use, however the art is not free but that is another topic itself. tyranobuilder - The main problem with this engine is the price but if you willing to overlook that it offers almost the same has renpy. HTML is the reason people have buy the game, however there have been problems with the HTML from not being able to click anything to buttons not working. It claims to be the fastest VN maker but that is something the user has to figure out. If you are able to code 2 scenes in renpy under 30 minutes thats fast progress, tyranobuilder is drag&drop meaning you have to waste 50% of your progress to clicking on a button. lastly tyranobuilder script language is javascript, almost no indie developer even dare use javascript, the reason is due to the fact it was never built for games. It's the main reason why tyranobuilder games lag campre to any other engine in this list. Also the maker of tyranobuilder fail to understand that it was Processing.js that make games work better in javascript not ECMAScript. Novelty- its the same idea of tyranobuilder but it was first built way before tyranobuilder, also its free so there is no reason to even buy tyranobuilder other than the HTML that lags. Novelty use C++ and java to script the language, this is a huge advantage since you can use this language to get jobs faster in the world and people from unity will hire you for just knowing how to code a vn in C++. As far as i understand, the main reason no one goes there is because its only windows OS which limits everyone who is not windows. Belle - Another VN engine that works like tyranobuilder, one big difference is that it's free. If you looking for tyranobuilder alternative for its HTML, this will be the one (again it was build first). Another advantage is that it really does run well in HTML but the bad news is that it only builds HTML which is the only thing it can build the game. Unity plugin: Fungus - Now i dont know much about this engine (reading things off google), it does seem like it another no code engine. what really makes this one different from all other engines that i list is its ability to run animated sprites, unity build (standard build, no consoles included), and the script is whatever unity has right now. Since this is Unity you will face these problems, Poor graphics quality as compared to Unreal Engine, Unfriendly User-Interface (even if you download the plug-in you will still have a bad time on it), and lastly dependent of unity, if their web browser stops working you have to wait for them to fix it, if unity discover a hack bug you have to update, if they going to upgrade you have to upgrade. Cloudnovel- A website browser to make VN, the reason i put this one so low is because it does a poor job to help developers. You'll find that there is no scripting language so you cant really do anything new with it. Another thing is that you cant use it outside their website so it stays in cloudnovel with no way to gain money. The drag&drop has pages that you must click and wait for the website to load your pictures, music and your gameplay. Lastly on why it makes such a bad vn maker is due to the fact that its only in english, sure it might be possible that someone might do it without reading but most of the great stuff is in english writing and in english videos. Thats everything, I didnt add GM because its design to build platform games not VN, construct is way too basic gaming that offers unneeded elements in VN, RPG maker is only build for RPG, adding long dialog will not help in a rpg (only the boss does that) 80% of the game is fighting not learning about the story. I hope this little insight of what each vn engine offers and what doesn't offer will help you. If you have any questions post here or want to ask why [engine_name] is not added it's because i can't post all of them.
  18. Voice Acting Thread! This thread is dedicated to the discussion of Voice Acting, as well as showing off any projects you've had a hand in. It's also for newbies who want to get involved in voice acting, but don't have the experience. First off, I'd advise anyone that wants to get involved in Voice Acting to check out Casting Call Club. ( https://castingcall.club/ ) Here's a random old project of mine, an original poem with some audio work and Voice Acting.
  19. Hello. Its Manuel from Black Sands. I am looking for feedback regarding our new sprite models for Rah and Nun. We are developing a new demo during our KickStarter campaign and wish for community input a long the way. Here are the sprite rough sketches Be Critical. Thanks!
  20. I honestly think it's very important to remember what was the first we saw and whether it was a good experience in my case ...... ..... took a tremendous chance started with a visual novel called "Inkey academy" was playing without knowing anything it was the first I played .... hardly I knew it was a challenge even for experienced .... just caught a bad end shaking ..... amazing that despite this I still continued, and as to you you had a good experience?
  21. Welcome, to the first of possibly many roundups for the VN community. Each month(?) I'll be taking a specific theme, giving some examples of where it's been done well, and get some discussion going about the theme itself. Theme 1; Kemonomimi Kemonomimi refers to humanoids, taking on animalistic traits. Traditionally, this comprises of cat ears, and tails. There are a lot more subsidies of this though, and we can even define them. Nekomimi Taking on the appearance / traits of a Cat Kitsunemimi Taking on the appearance / traits of a Fox Inumimi Taking on the appearance / traits of a Dog We've also got; ( Caution: Some NSFW ) Usagimimi: rabbit ears Ookamimi: wolf ears Hitsujimimi: sheep ears/horns Umamimi: horse ears Ushimimi: cow ears Toramimi: tiger ears Nezumimi: mouse ears Kumamimi: bear ears Kemonomimi: general, or ambiguous ( means beast ) The usual use of these tropes in Visual Novels is by having them as either a different race, a fantasy creature, or by having them as genetically modified pets. Thus, their personalities usually vary from that of traditional humans and such. There's very few Visual Novels that use this trait currently, however there's been a recent resurgence for the demand, so expect the tradition to rise a little more in the next year or so. As an example, Sekai Project has worked with the creators at NekoWorks to localise their visual novel Nekopara, and even releasing it through Steam ( censored of course ) as well as another translation for a renouned Japanese VN with a huge focus on Kemonomimi, "Pure-Pure!" due to release soon™. Pros; Catgirls. HNNNGG! Plenty of community-made originals Psychologically different relationship Affectionate by nature Catgirls. Seriously. can anyone spare a towel? No gross human ears.... bleh Cons; Rare occurrence Traditionally played off as part animal High sexual focus, low story content Probably a recruiting tool of Furries Not seeing human ears is kinda strange Why Kemonomimi? There's two major reasons that Kemonomimi is seen as a huge thing for a niche group of consumers. Firstly, catgirls are cute as hell. We can't really deny this. Secondly, is the psychological side of things with building a Kemonomimi relationship, based off an entirely new social construct. Whether you're falling in love with your family pet catgirl, you're helping spirits make peace with humans, or you've saved a stray from the cruel city streets, there's a lot of writing freedom when building relationships in a way that's not usually done. As another psychological point, there's a lot of erotic content in this genre ( at minimum, consistent fan service ). Having this come from a "person" who is psychologically conditioned different is a huge appeal to some people. Having the pack mentality of an animal, or the need to fornicate while on heat, these are different excuses for lewd content than the usual. Where do I sign up?! Here's a few examples of existing Visual Novels, with a Kemonomimi theme. ( censored, but still NSFW ) NSFW - http://imgur.com/a/lL8eQ - NSFW Please tag anything that's NSFW, and link it externally. Feel free to leave your suggestions on Kemonomimi Visual Novels. As always, I'll also be taking suggestions for next month's theme! Suggest away

  24. Does anyone have the english translation to the normal endings for Muv Luv Unlimited? The mother daughter scene to be exact. I can't get my game to that point without crashing. Would really like to be able to understand exactly what they're saying. Just the text here if possible would be more than enough Thanks in advance
  25. JAST finally releases Shiny Days! It is an alternate version/prequel of School Days. Synopsis from J-List: The long-awaited sequel to School Days, this is a wonderful continuation of the classic story of love in high school, which includes all your favorite characters from School Days, along with plenty of new faces. A fun game that offers a lighter story and high number of new characters to romance, along with full animation and great uncensored "H" scenes, this is a game that fans will love. Shiny Days is the "HQ" remake of Summer Days, a spin-off sequel to the original game told from the viewpoint of Setsuna. When Sekai gets sick and asks Setsuna to take over for her at her part-time job, it's the start of something important for Setsuna and Makoto, and for all the School Days characters. It will be a summer no one will forget. Shiny Days is a massive game with 35+ game endings all brought to you with full motion animation and mosaic-free erotic scenes.
