Yeah, but it would be cool if it was a side route, without all the romance involved. This way, she could be more cold hearted and work it better in her route/plan. If there is/was a Fandisc, I'd like to see that happening

Ive actually been talking about it with my programmer friend and he is already on board.
We were also considering making a short anime, but making a visual novel would be much easier. My artist friend has a thing for sexually explicit content so the game would definitely not be lacking in h scenes.

We need someone to provide original audio, preferably classical type instrumentals. Which we might be able to just produce on our own.
What we need most is a solid idea, that is thought evoking, heart wrenching, and provocative all in one. I am willing to hear some ideas, but my team would want to make slight alternations. I am a writer by trade, (impoverished at the moment) so I have some ideas of my own

    Symphonic Rain
Summary Symphonic Rain takes place in a fictional city of apparently Italian heritage, where rain falls everyday. The locals there have adapted to this peculiar phenomenon, and carry on with their lives as if the rain was never there. No one takes an umbrella, no one wears a rain coat.   The main character of the story is 17 year old Chris, a Fortelle student of the famous Piova Communal School of Music (Scuola Comunale di Musica Piova, in Italian). Separated from his childhood sweetheart Arietta when he left his home town for the city, he keeps in touch with her through the means of weekly letters. Penning their thoughts on those letters, Chris treasures and keeps her weekly writings, for he had promised her that should his drawer become totally filled with them, he would return to her.   The game starts during Chris's third year as a student, a few months before he has to take the school's final graduation examination: a staged performance. As an instrumentalist, he is required to search for a vocalist partner before he is eligible for the examination.   Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order The recommended route order is Fal -> Lise -> Torta -> Al Fine 1 -> Al Fine 2 -> Phorni. Fal and Lise can be completed in any order but you should only do Torta's route after the other two, and Al Fine 1 can be skipped but it is a bad idea to do so.   About the music minigame: The gameplay consists of pressing the right button when a note enters the column in rhythm with the song that is being played. Keep in mind that "+" is actually ";", "<" is actually "," and ">" is actually ".". There are three difficulty settings which can be selected in the options menu. On Easy you only need to worry about the "D", "F", "J" and "K" keys, Normal also adds "A", "S", "L" and ";", and Hard uses all the letters on keyboards. Alternatively you can turn Autoplay on, then the songs will be played for you which is the closest you can get to skipping them. Route Guideline

I wouldn't so easily dismiss this as illegal, in fact I think this is an issue that is open to legal debate. If professional translators are hired (through the donations), they would not own their labor. Meaning that the people paying them own their labor, (Fuwa). So long as the owners of the labor are not profiting, it does not seem illegal. Infact, not only would the owners of the labor not be profiting, but we would actually be losing money because we are distributing the translation patch for free. Those of you arguing that the translator's are profiting are thinking in a very socialist way. You are essentially arguing that the workers (translators) own their labor, and are thus profiting off of it. Laborers who are payed are not profiting, as they are selling their labor to us. Theoretically we can have them translate anything, what legally matters is what we (the owners of the translations and their labor) do with the translation.  Since we would own their translated work, (as we would be paying them to translate for us), the only people legally responsible for making money are those who own the translation. So long as the translation is distributed for free, no profit is made, and thus nothing illegal is occurring.

Investopedia's definition of profit is, "A financial benefit that is realized when the amount of revenue gained from a business activity exceeds the expenses, costs and taxes needed to sustain the activity. Any profit that is gained goes to the business's owners, who may or may not decide to spend it on the business.
    Calculated as:
    "

Through this definition, if you do the math you can can see that no profit would be made at all. We would have expenses, but no revenue would be generated. In other words if we plug in.  (Profit = 0 - x).   x being our expenses.

In topic Solidbatman created "MangaGamer Considering Crowd Funding" a lot people said that they would be willing to donate if MangaGamer choose to use fundings for some good no nukige VN. So I thought why don't we (Fuwanowel) start crowd funding in order to pay people to do fan-translations. I mean there would surely be a lot people who would be willing to translate VNs if they were to get paid to do it, they don't even have to like VNs as long as they have good knowledge of both English and Japanese and they want to earn some money from home that would be good enough. We could easily find people like that on some freelancer site. And as we would be funding for fan-projects and not for sale we could without problem give fans a choice to choose what VN they want to get translated with their donations.

So we first put up a news about this project and we give a pool for witch VN they would like to get translated (In the pool we put only VNs that there's no project for already) once people decide we start crowd funding and once we get enough money we search for freelancers.

So what's your opinion about the idea? Personally, I don't see any reason why to not do it.

Zalor reacted to Clephas in Chuuni: What is this genre?
To be quite frank, there isn't one really.  If there is a difference between chuuni as many see it and your average epic, it is that chuuni has a habit of transforming someone who might possibly be the reader into a hero, whereas epic stories idolize heroes to the point where they become something more than the humans their stories might or might not be based off of.  The essential nature of both is the same, but they are colored by the times they were written in.

If you want an example of early Japanese chuunibyou portrayed in anime, check out the protagonist's female friend in 12 Kingdoms.

Edit: She is pretty much the poster child for modern chuunibyou, as it is understood now.  That insecurity I was talking about in a previous post tends to reach a critical point in early to mid puberty where the boundaries of what is real and what is not have a tendency to blur, which causes chuunibyou as it is understood in Japan.

If you live in Texas below Waco, you either believe in global warming or you spend too much time watching Fox News. To be blunt, if we want to talk about lies or misdirection in media, those who speak against the reality of climate change are those the most detached from reality. They should go speak to the Inuits in Alaska or the people living on the coasts in Southeast Asia if they want an honest opinion about the matter. When you have to face moving your entire village fifty miles inland because your ancestral home is going under water, your concern isn't how the government chose to use propaganda on the matter, it's whether your kids are going to die because a bunch of people couldn't bring themselves to support the elimination of the internal combustion engine. In other words, just because it is propaganda doesn't mean it isn't true. Propaganda is a tool, not an evil in and of itself.

Wow, it took like, 20 posts before someone pointed out that there's no way in hell the japanese government could possibly insert propaganda into VNs. Why would they give a fuck about a niche medium aimed at people that will largely never hold any kind of relevance to the politics in the country and won't care much about it anyway?
What you see in VNs is just the expression of the author trying to convey his convictions or making an attempt at humor. And, believe it or not, most VN writers are not good writers.

I kinda lol'd when I saw that the American government was introducing propaganda into their TV series though.

Zalor reacted to Clephas in For Love of a Genre: A list of great Chuuni games
One of American action cartoons' greatest flaws is that their writers don't even try to take the story seriously.  Instead, they spend all their time trying to bludgeon the watchers with moral lessons or with a story where people mysteriously don't die even though things are blowing up all over the place (my first TV show was Tour of Duty, a seriously brutal show about the Vietnam War, so GI Joe seriously disappointed the bloodthirsty toddler I was).  That perception that animation is only for kids is the main reason why there is no large corresponding production mechanism for producing the same kind of material you see in Japan here in the west.  I imagine that will change as the people who lived through the late eighties as young adults die off, but that is still a long way away.

I really like the type of routes found in School Days.  Despite my dislike of most of the characters in that VN, I love that the story feels organic growing from your choices rather than feeling like a series of railroad switches like in games like Grisaia no Kajitsu(though on the whole, I like that VN better).  It feels more like I'm participating in the story instead of merely choosing which story I want to read.

Oh, I realize now that my sentence probably gave the wrong impression.
I actually love Evangelion, for multiple reasons, and I do see where are its thematics and significance. Hell, it's the most influential anime of all time. And probably one of those with the most accurate content.

What I wanted to say was, there IS a reason to criticize a part of the fanbase for pretentiousness, because there are people out there who were told "Evangelion is great" and proceeded to look for deep meanings where there wasn't (eg the religious look), arguing that it's "so deep and philosophical" when they don't understand one bit of it. Or to understand more or less what it's really about but then be obnoxious about it.
They're part of the reason why Evangelion has that reputation of overrated stuff. Another factor being that it's kinda hard to explain all the aspects that make Evangelion what it is.

(On a side point, Evangelion does have an entertaining value. It's a shame people who are told "hey watch this it's deep and mature" end up hating it because they were pointed in the wrong direction. At its zero-est degree of interpretation, it's still a show with giant robots and sexy chicks, after all)

I recommend Yume Miru Kusuri. The main protagonist actually has a personality, and is fairly confident. There is also a fair amount of sexual content, (not too much, not too little). And best of all, the characters and story is quite well done. I don't exactly know what defines, " alot of choices and routes". But in my opinion, Yume Miru Kusuri had a decent amount of choices. Also there are only 3 routes, but they are quite well done and each one represents a theme. One girl's route explores interpersonal relationships, another girl's route explores how drugs effect people, and the third as well as my favorite route explores bullying. The girl whose route explores interpersonal relationships, (Mizuki's route) has the most sexual content.

Zalor reacted to OriginalRen in Ren's Anime Group
About a year ago, my friends and I started up our own anime group where we enjoy a night of fun filled shows and Coldstone ice cream. I thought it would be a cool idea to post in this forum about what exactly this little social click of ours entails and see what everyone thinks. I won’t bore you with the details of what started the idea per se, but I will give you the lowdown of how it works.

The way we run the group is that its 3 members (myself included) each select an anime to watch per round, where a “round” consists of all of us choosing a series of our choice. Each show shouldn’t be over 30 episodes in length, but exceptions may be made for certain occasions. We try to stay away from the popular anime that made it big in the US, but again, exceptions may be given if we feel the hype of the show is that great. In terms of watching each series with subtitles or as an English dub, the choice is up to the selector of said anime. The group meets about once a week and usually watches as many episodes as we feel is fit, sometimes watching all the shows at once. In this case, we watch 3 episodes from each series a night. After 3 rounds of shows (9 in total, which we consider being a "season" of anime) we host an Oscar award ceremony - we pick and choose the best from each show in that set, and discuss what we enjoyed the most. These Oscars usually have set categories and nominations we choose beforehand, so most of the voting is done in our own time via survey. Instead of just picking a choice for each nomination, we actually rate our choices from 1-9, with 1 being the best. In the end, the statistics balance themselves out and we can analyze what we feel really was the "best" anime that entire season. In this way, even if a show doesn't win in terms of being the greatest anime, it may have the best characters, and so on.

Recently, we added another member to our group, as well as making an occasional friend who watched with us apart of the fun as well. Subsequent rounds will try to consist of 5 complete anime if possible, but that might not always be the case. If so, you can always expect at least 3 anime per round from our "core" group.

With that said, here is the list so far. It is cumulative, so enjoy!

Note: Due to organizational purposes, additional anime will be added in future posts as time goes on. Below are the links to other pages for the group.

Zalor got a reaction from noctisnw1 in Anime as Art
I have considered anime a legitimate art form for several years now. There are animes out there that have influenced and helped structure my views of life on an equivalent level that literature has. What I'm suggesting is should Anime be respected on the level that literature and film are? Should there be courses that analyze anime in the same fashion that there are courses that analyze literature and film? I say yes. I consider anime to be so brilliant because it is a combination of visual art, animation, music, and story telling. You could write a comprehensive paper on the significance of an art style in an anime, or choose to focus exclusively on the story, or focus on how the animation, story and music all harmonize with each other. There are many things to think about when analyzing and interpreting anime precisely because it is a combination of multiple arts, which is why I firmly believe it should be respected as such.

I guess I knew that it was a debate, but I've never faltered on my belief that anime is "art" (and more probably... or at least it's different than what most people experience when they look at a painting). After my first Visual Novel experience (Katawa Shoujo), I was also completely aware that vns are/can be art as well...

While I bitterly resent derping around with definitions of art, for the sake of the argument I will say this.

For me, it depends on the level of intention. Technically, a piece of art should be intentionally a piece of art, but I've always found something haunting in art that isnt trying to be art. So what I'm saying is that I know it probably can all be classified as art, but I dont feel horrible in saying that some is, almost objectively, better art. For me, something like FLCL has this unimaginable artistic element to it that just makes it amazing. Something in the show is intentionally out there, but in this way that widens my view of it all and makes me feel something odd... idk, I never was a big fan of describing art or arguing about it, but anime definitely is art. (same too for vns and manga). Then again, a lot of things are "art". I'm just particularly touched by these particular ones u.u

Watching Kare Kano right now makes me aware of this so much more.
