Fair enough, I see what you are saying. Banning it as a whole certainly may not be a good idea as it does help some students out.
Most of my stance on the issue comes from the immense discomfort I remember from my own health classes in high school.

Well, if it's not interesting, it's unlikely to capture the attention of teens nor will it register in their brains.
Tbh, I don't have much of a clue how Sex Ed classes in the US are, but i imagine these classes generally fall into one of the 2 following categories (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):
    1) the class is boring as well, and most of the student sleeps through it
    2) in an attempt to make it interesting to the majority of the class, the teacher attempts to joke during his/her lecture, but the focus will be on the humor instead of the material itself
I question how effective is the class if one of the above is true.

Also, people don't generally care much about consequences unless they experienced it in some sort of form before, especially not when the only source of this comes from a class which they may very well not pay attention to.  I don't imagine most will care much too when told 'here exist incurable skin transferred STDs, which condoms do not protect against and can in some cases move from the skin and go inside where it turns women barren' (your comment on UK sex ed in one your earlier post proves my point), although it might make them more cautious. Sex occurs in 2 conditions; non-consensual (rape) or consensual. For rape, nth much needs to be said. As for consensual, I believe most will be slept up by the moment to care (too) much about what the sex ed teaches.

Actually, the technical aspects and consequences of sex shouldn't be taught in sex ed class (as they are boring as hell) and can probably be summarise into biology or social studies classes (or something like that) I believe (I think those are better ways) . I think sex ed should be all these:
aka, all about responsible sex. In this case, I believe
or, not very effective at all.

Anyway, despite all of these, I believe you make a lot of valid points. Thumbs up

I think the point of his posts are that sex-education aren't even close to being quite-effective in tackling the high number of school pregnancy (which I agree) and not on the technical aspect of sex education.
For the highlighted part, I'm pretty sure a lot of teenagers are not paying as much attention to these as you (lolz) in sex-ed class or are plain bored of it as I'm pretty sure a lot of them already knows. Sex is a hot topic for teens and as such I'm pretty sure they would have found other ways to get more info on it elsewhere.
Besides, if the sex ed class is only good for these points:
    1) Sex leads to pregnancy. Unwanted and unprepared pregnancy leads to a lot of problems
    2) Unprotected sex may leads to sexually transmitted diseases, which will ruin or even end your life
then, i question how effective is it as I'm pretty sure most teens only need common sense and some curiosity to know about it for themselves.
To be effective at communicating the seriousness of 1) and 2), you are going to have to delve a lot deeper into them, but then it will fall into the realm of preaching, and most anyone, let alone teens. will be unable to stay awake and listen, lolz

Ofc, I still support sex-ed classes being around for reasons mentioned in my earlier posts

Updated the first post to mention the concept of safe days doesn't work as birth control. There is currently a class lawsuit about this in America because some paid app claimed to schedule safe and unsafe days and now the pregnant women sue for paying for something, which didn't work.
The age of consent is 13 by national law. Prefectures are allowed to raise this number, but not lower. Most if not all prefectures have set the age to 18, including Tokyo, which is why mentioning 13 seems a bit odd.

The manga Futari Ecchi is about a newly wed couple trying to figure out the sex life, which is both funny and educational. It includes a bunch of surveys regarding the topic and one of them is about the age of the first time (women only). Apparently the lowest answer is 12. Even if that is below the age of consent, it's old enough to risk pregnancy. Based on this, it would make sense to say something around the age of 12, even if the legal limit is 18.

What you teach the children is also important. According to Futari Ecchi, UK increased sex ed and the teenagers became more sexual active. It offers no explanation, but odds are the teaching material said something like just do it as long as you use condoms.
So you are saying that it's better to hide that sex leads to pregnancy and that it's better that everybody learn that from their own experience? Yes it's easily awkward and can be hard to figure out how to say something age appropriate. However it can be done if somebody in the education system wants it to work. However there are examples of politicians deciding sex ed should be present, but not how and then somebody else figures out that implementing it means teaching how to have same sex action or even "avoid pregnancy. Use animals instead" (that one got banned the day politicians learned about it).
Sure, people will talk about nice boobs, good ass and how it's supposed to get inside. People will however not talk about STDs, pregnancies and all the other problems. The last time I had sex ed was around age 16. By this time school was no longer mandatory, the stupid kids were all gone and the biology curriculum included how and why different methods of birth control works and how safe they are (hint: none is 100% safe). Not only was it part of the finals, it was actually really interesting. Part of the myth busting in the first post is based on knowledge I learned at this point.
Around the age of where puberty starts for most people, the topic was what happens when it does. A little talked about fact is that it's completely normal for both genders to have growing breasts. One gender will continue to grow them while the other will see them vanish over time in most cases. Also breasts start out as a hard lump and will not become soft until they reach a certain size.

In other words sex ed should be about how to protect against STDs, unwanted pregnancies, consequences regarding those topics, bodily development (am I normal?). It should not be about the fun stuff as people will figure out how to do that on their own. Just as with any other class, it could be interesting or boring depending on how the teacher handles the subject.

Absolutely true, but not the point of my post.
I agree with most of what you said and never believed that this kind of class will really turn this situation around.
The point of my post is there is a group of people who can / may greatly benefits from this kind of class, and the resources it takes up is rather small considering the potential benefits it has (at the very least. it will definitely improve the situation, no matter how small). Don't think it's worth it to ban the class just because of their hypocrisy ideals

    Hello fellow VN readers

After having read fuwa for a while I have decided to take the risk and dared to enter new territory, which is to start my very own thread for the first time. I figure I have to start with an introduction or I will run the risk that people will have no idea who I am.

    My VN timeline:
2005ish: first VN encountered. VN reading didn't take off, partly due to poor availability at the time, partly because I didn't fully get it at the time
2007-2008: VN reading started to be multiple titles and titles good enough for me to remember
    2011: encountered Musumaker
    2015: joined Fuwa
2016: joined Luna translations before it got big. Worked technical on most titles (VNDB's list is incomplete) and ended up managing who did what for Majo Koi Nikki
2016: fixed script syntax issues in the majority of lines in Ayakashi Gohan (uncredited, though it looks like nobody really got credited). Released 2017
    2017 Luna collapsed
2018 started a thread on Fuwa

The story of Musumaker (which is mainly a story of my VN involvement)
It was released in late December 2008. A week later somebody on HongFire started a translation. With tools available and extracted script a number of people started working on it. I encountered it in 2011, realized that the scripts people had uploaded were in various formats and the game could handle none of them. I investigated the problem, figured out how to do it right and then wrote a script to convert all the files into the right format. I published the script, thinking people would be overjoyed, but the translation had been dropped by that time
All what was left of the entire team was one wannabe translator named RaurosFalls. Even worse, he wasn't even that great a translator (at the time). However wanting the translation to finish, I continued to improve the script handling and tried to recruit more people. It failed, but RaurosFalls did study Japanese and on translating and by 2015, having reached 15%, he started over, retranslated everything based on his newly gained skills and a partial patch was released. This did indeed help recruiting, but nobody with skills able to deliver anything useful. We then started talking about the fact that being on HongFire was a problem. By that time it had ended up being the only serious translation project and the only one for "a real VN". If we were to be taken as serious as it was at the time, we would have to move. None of us had picked HongFire in the first place.
The choice ended up being Fuwa due to the active and apparently significantly more serious translation community. We did and more serious people got interested in Musumaker, though we still failed to recruit anybody. However then the miracle happened. The newly formed Luna Translations showed up and we agreed to join. We should be working on some title we never heard of before called Majo Koi Nikki and once it would be done, the entire team would move to Musumaker (spoiler: that never happened). Eventually RaurosFalls realized he is not in the VN community to translate a VN. He is in to translate Musumaker and moved back to working on Musumaker.
Now started a really interesting time because I worked on two titles at the same time. Luna was started with the goal of aiming really high regarding quality. Right from the start the workflow was prepared to be professionally with multiple steps, each to improve quality. Most noteworthy editing (which we had forgotten about for Musumaker). Witnessing the same text at each step and see how reading enjoyment improves significantly was really an eye opener. Sure it helped to work together with authors of work such as The Freditorial and re:Edit. The quality goal really was/is really high and as such the demand for quality from each contributor was equally high. Really important here is that the part translated by RaurosFalls passed quality inspection, which was good news for the translation quality of Musumaker.
The next event took me completely by surprise and it was something, which would change everything. MusumakerHD remake was released. This was great and horrible at the same time because I suddenly had to deal with a new engine and port/move the existing translation into the new format. This was a major task, but since I would have to generate a new file format anyway, I made the decision to abandon the old translation approach and develop a format, which allows using the workflow I encountered for Majo Koi Nikki. It was a lot of hard work and it seemed like the task took forever, but eventually it all worked out. None of the code I had written over the years could be reused and I had to start all over. The tools provided by HongFire only worked for the old engine. The only reused item from the pre-HD days are the translated lines themselves. We were still just two people, but eventually more would come and it's best to be prepared.
The collapse of Luna Translation meant the deal about getting more people went with it. However in very late 2017 I finally figured out how to recruit people. During 2018 the team has grown and grown and the team now consist of no less than 9 people, all aiming high on quality. This would however be more impressive if it would be 9 people working at the same time, but one step at a time. While there is more technical work to be done, I'm now spending more time on managing and coordinating other people. More than 50% has been translated by now, but more impressively is that RaurosFalls has personally translated more than 30k lines.

For a person who is unable to translate, edit or graphical work, I do think I left my footstep on the VN translation community anyway.

Life outside of VNs: now that's not a short or boring list, but I keep most of it to myself. I got accepted at the university of my choice in first attempt. Here I learned programming and other interesting stuff. One class I have had to take without really being my choice included project management and management of human resources. This has later turned out to be useful.

That's it for my introduction to the VN community. It might be somewhat longer than the average introduction, but not only did I wait way too long to write it, I have also been active, hence having a longer background story. Hopefully from now on, if I post something, nobody will go "who is that guy?".
Come to think of it, this might be the first introduction post, which mentions involvement in an already released translation.

Is inferior in almost every way to the 2003 original. I am so seriously disappointed by this lacklustre remake. The ways in which it doesn't live up are too numerous to count.
Firstly 2003 Kino is introspective. It's thoughtful, it's philosophical. It takes the viewer on a ride through the world and encourages them to think about what's going on. 2017 Kino succumbs to the urge of telling you what's going on. Thanks for taking a lot of the atmosphere out of the show.
Secondly when I talk about writing I usually talk about how genre fiction encourages the use of what I call "invisible prose", or prose that likes to get out of the way of the story. That way the reader doesn't notice it and is drawn into the story. 2017 uses the art/graphical (I dunno what it's called) equivalent of invisible prose, it looks good, it shows the background, it gets out of the way, it does a job without people pointing and laughing. Contrast this to 2003 Kino, which loves to use many techniques to draw attention to the style and then uses that style to get the viewer to think more on the themes and message. From the use of colours and blurred pictures, to the manipulation of sounds, to the soundless moments on the screen that pop up with the last pieces of dialogue. It's more dangerous - call attention to style and muck it up and it's so much more noticeable (because you're obviously calling attention to it), but it serves the philosophical and thoughtful nature of the show well.
And of course it would be more artistic. Directed by the legendary man who create Serial Experiments Lain, how could it not? That talent was missing from 2017, and boy did it show.
Story choice was poor, although that's what happens when you leave things up to a vote. Mobocracy is not a good method of making creative decisions. What we got was a focus on the "cool aspects" of the show, and a lessening of what actually makes Kino's Journey so damn great. The more action in a show of limited time, the less time there is for everything else, and when the show isn't really an action show that often becomes a detriment. It doesn't help when the powers that be decides to cut critical context out of the show which changes the character and leaves the audience a bit befuzzled.
Kino's character has always been a bit bland, but 2017 focuses more on that character whereas in 2003 she's more of an observer. She conveys to you the world, whereas in 2017 she's more interpreting it.
I'm not going to make this a long post so I'll stop there. I'm rewatching Kino's Journey 2003 and man it's so good. Rest in peace Ryutaro Nakamura, you were a genius and you died far too young.

Zalor got a reaction from KainLegacy535 in Never happened to you?
It's not a derogatory statement about women. Porn stars are whores, that is literally their job. I am not at all implying that all women are whores, but whores are by definition whores. Think about it this way, would you want your sister or mother to work in the porn industry? Probably not right? Because it is degrading. Not just for them personally, but for their whole family. I was also implying that just because a woman is beautiful does not mean that her personality or morality matches that of her face.
Good girls with moral standards deserve respect. Hell, the same is true of guys as well.
I think one of the most dangerous mistakes guys can make is to project their idealization on a girl, and ignore the truth about her. It is misguided to idealize women like Medieval poets did. These are my views at least. Feel free to disagree or agree, but that is how I feel about the subject.

To go back to the original question, why are person X in porn? I will assume it's likely for the same reason as why women becomes prostitutes.

There is obviously the case of needing the money. I read in the newspaper about a porn directory who had been flooded by applications from women, who had the choice between porn and losing the house. He blaming the politicians for creating a situation (specific new law) where he was unable to find suitable candidates, but that it was actually worse for the women, who had ended up being that desperate. He didn't talk kindly of the politicians who insisted that nobody would end up in a situation like that. Interestingly he declared he could not use women, who didn't want to do it, though I'm not certain all directors will have moral issues in that regard.

Then there is the people, who will do anything for money. It can easily be in addition to a normal job, meaning they end up with two incomes. This allows financing a lifestyle, which would be out of reach for the majority of people. It could also be because if they can pull off not doing any other job, they can be allowed to be lazy. Crime is another "popular" solution to reach an otherwise unreachable lifestyle.

The last reason is sex. I saw a study at some point that some women can't get enough sex. Apparently if you grow up being told that is your purpose in life and to be a good girl, you do stuff, then some of them stick to that approach as adults. Prostitution is then a tool to get 10 men each day and the fact that it provides an income is just a bonus.

There are other examples of upbringing gone wrong, like it's cute that all the adults have to look at a little girl dancing at every single gathering. It can then happen that they are displeased with not being in the center when they grow up and then to get back to get people to look at them, the tool becomes to drop cloth.
That's spot on. Some people apparently don't like/get the direct message, but it's accurate. There are plenty of good girls out there, but there certainly are a number of demons and mentally disturbed ones. Men too as it's not about gender. I have to say that I understand girls complaining about creeps who tries to pick them up. I tried a girl approaching me like that. Well she didn't even try to pick me up, she basically just ordered me to sex and I was like "who are you?". It was at school and I didn't even know her name or class or anything. Later I learned who it was and she was basically just fishing for penis regardless of owner. It was actually rather disturbing to experience that.

Also whore basically means somebody who has sex for money. It fits the porn industry and there actually is an overlap because some porn "stars" also work on the street and that way acts as gateway for STDs. Not sure if they are high ranking, but it's happening and is apparently a big problem.

People yell about being free and just do it. Pick up a new girl every Friday night and whatever. However people acting like that are usually very loud, but not so big in numbers. I saw a survey on a college where they asked for sexual partners for the last year. Not only was the most common answer 0, more than 90% had 2 or less and if the person had two, both partners only had one. One was way more common than two. The remaining less than 10% were... well active. If one of them had an STD, they could all have it because it seemed like they swapped partners or just basically took what they could get.

Another survey was quoted in Futari Ecchi (read it if you haven't. It's one of the best mangas I have seen, though it's probably targeting age 25+). It asked adult women how many sexual partners they had had within their lifetime. More than half said 2 or less (0 not uncommon). Almost everybody had less than the average because the average was totally screwed by a few who had astronomical numbers.

So yeah there are women, who apparently want to do anything for sex, but they are most certainly a minority. Then again people doing porn are also a minority.

An issue with the Fuwa blogs is that it seems that the only audience for it are fuwanovel users. Specifically the people who lurk and post on the forums. Which seems to be a smaller amount than it used to be.
Also, if you have a blog on Fuwa, you are kind of dependent on Fuwa being stable. Meaning that when the next Fuwapocolpyse happens, your stuff will be vulnerable.
Wordpress is nice because it gives you more control, but its also more difficult to grow an audience if your solely focused on VNs.
