This is a beautiful VN that I wanted to recommend to you guys since I've been wanting to get back into playing it for a while...
Firstly, the art is beautiful and the main character is super deadpan which I love of course 😀 But most importantly, the Adventure Game elements added make the world that much more immersive!
One of my favorite mechanics of this game is the lore book that is updated with new information on each character that you meet or items that you use throughout the game in order to progress.
And don't even get me started on the soothing soundtrack!
Well, you'd have to hear it for yourself : D
Anyway, here are some more pictures~
And, you can find The Crown of Leaves here if you're interested in trying something new!

P.S. all images/screenshots of this game were obtained from the official steam page in case anyone was wondering.
I figured since these are the preview pictures there wouldn't be any spoilers.

And if you play this VN, let me know, so we can rave about it together!

Hi, I'm Morgan or morgan_nicole. I just joined this forum today and am really excited to have a place to find out about interesting VNs!
I actually just recommended an Adventure VN in the VN Discussion section if you want to check it out.
Also, I'm planning on sharing any progress I make with my own Visual Novel on my profile or in the 'Devlog' section.
So maybe you'll see a post about that pop up soon ; )
Speaking of which, what place do you think would be better to share my VN devlog? Any advice is much appreciated!
    Well, nice meeting you!

To be fair, this is a hell of a coincidence, I haven't visited fuwa like in years.
Btw I'd still recommend the steam version since the text is more clear to read (the original version is like blurry and murky) and it has some technical improvements and you don't even need steam to run the game, also it's like 300mb and narcissu 1 is 90mb so is not a huge difference.
Tell your friend to enjoy this masterpiece.

Yeah, when Momiji's route TL came out I started by loading my Hinata save from the snowball fight choice. I picked Momiji and still got Hinata. Then I started from the beginning but sent her the wrong note in class and got Yuzuki's route. Only on the third try did I actually get her route. Maybe she's an outlier, but there's definitely more than one choice that matters.

I recommended a friend who wants to improve his Japanese to read Narcissu 1, since it's free and short. He runs Windows, but I have been unable to find a download copy of just Narcissu 1 from any official website that is not Steam. My friend doesn't like Steam and would prefer a more direct way to get the VN.
On Insani's official download page they have Windows, Linux, and Mac versions available for English. But only Linux and Mac versions for the Japanese version.
Stage Nana's official website provides a download version for Narcissu 2, but not of Narcissu 1
Am I missing something in one of these links? If not does anyone know where I can link my friend a download copy of Narcissu 1 in Japanese for Windows?
EDIT: I know that Narcissu 2's download includes Narcissu 1. But I was wondering if there was an easy way I could just link my friend to a copy of Narcissu 1 without being attached to Narcissu 2.

Who are you to judge the "standard" of fan translations and saying that he doesn't even meet the so called "low standards"?
Who are you to say when someone is or isn't ready to do anything?
Comparing a translation of a visual novel to a fight against Muhammad Ali....are you out of your mind, are you on prescriptions or something?

Using the word "disrespectful" for a fan translation.... wtf! Disrespectful and low is what you are doing here!

He doesn't need any standards and sure as hell doesn't owe YOU or anyone here NOTHING, if the company at some point decides that they don't t want his translation they would do so as many companies have done in the past but until then you are no one to judge his work or say anything to him, specially not in the way you are saying it.
And please refrain from now on of using the word "us" in your posts since  clearly you are not a spokesman of anything I believe or think.

what's the big deal?is a freaking game nothing more nothing else, if you dont enjoy to see someone fucking a head inside the stomach of another girl then dont watch/read it(by the way the head is alive xD), I read this novel and didnt bother me at all now if I come across to something like this in real life I will call the police, and probably seek a psychiatrist for the PTSD of watching something like that, but then again I understand the difference between REALITY and FICTION.
You are not hurting anyone by reading things like this so why should anyone tell you that is wrong? if you are in a vn forum trying to appeal morality then this is the wrong place for that for sure, vns are based on taboo themes or what society in general consider wrong, one of the first novels if not the first one was based on this novel (https://vndb.org/v9545) for god's sake..

Deep Blue reacted to Ramaladni in [project] Sakura no Kisetsu Ren'py remake project
Well, I didn't want to be that guy, but I felt I should say something given that this has gotten nothing but positive comments and no real criticism, good or bad, so far.
I'm sorry, but I just can't like this. You're taking a perfectly fine game and porting it to Ren'py while destroying everything unique about it, I just find this to be disrespectful to the original work.
Fixing misTLs and translating what was left untranslated? Sure, I'd say that's awesome. This game was translated 23 years ago, there were different standards back then, JAST was just starting out and perhaps not the most qualified team was working on it, but this was literally one of the first steps for translated eroge. While it totally wouldn't be good enough nowadays, I think it's wrong to hate on the translation or a few rewrites. I see it as a as something left behind from JAST's humble beginnings. Fixing the names is pretty cool, considering the furigana was given for the names, I can only imagine that the translator had to rush to meet deadlines or that this project itself was a risky bet from the Japanese developers (so the priority was speed).
Adding alternate tracks, mosaic toggle and such are all cool bonuses and that's what they should be - nothing more, nothing less. I like fiddling with these options myself, so I'm sure most people will find it to be a warm welcome. Maybe people would appreciate something like a JP/EN language toggle if that is even possible, but sounds like too much work.
Adding CGs or tachi-e from other games that don't even have anything to do with Sakura no Kisetsu or Tiare makes no absolute sense. It'd be a completely different story if they were unused assets, but they weren't there to begin with, and they don't fit in there. I mean, I've seen similar projects that make bold choices, but they always keep it optional. Just think what a mess translation projects would be if people did just whatever they wanted.
You also took the original, beautiful pixel art and uh...smoothened it out, or whatever you may call it, and completely destroyed it. At the end of the day, this is an originally PC-98 game and should be reminded as such. This is not to say that the JAST Memorial Edition is good either. In fact, it looks horrible, mostly because of the "blurry background" window border that makes it hard to look at, that and the font. Meanwhile the DOS version still exists (but it's not being sold anymore? not sure) and is perfectly playable on DOSBOX, even on fullscreen. So, why?
And finally, the gameplay. Personally, I hate verb-based gameplay, even more so the kind where you have to pixel hunt to get to the next scene. But I think above anything else, it's wrong to remove a fundamental part of this game, turning it into something it wasn't. Playing Sakura no Kisetsu with verb-based gameplay might be a bit annoying in 2019, now that we're used to other types of gameplay, but by removing it, would we truly be playing Sakura no Kisetsu? I think not really.

Just to make this clear, I don't think this is "awful". Fixing the text and giving the game a better treatment than it could've afforded to have at the time is great, and I wish the same could be done for older games that have an awful translation, such as Divi-dead. I really dislike what you've done with the art, even more so considering how out of place the pixel art character sprites feel, but maybe it'd be possible to include an option to keep the original pixel art, just like Memorial Edition does (at least that's what it says). I'm sure you are passionate about this project and deeply care about it, or else you wouldn't have put so much effort into it - something the regular user wouldn't be able to, unless they were adequately skilled and/or were extremely dedicated. I just think this is bad in terms of concept - you mocked JAST's message of wanting to preserve the original as much as possible, but you're doing quite the opposite based solely on whims, is how I feel. Anyway, this is just my opinion - feel free to do as you wish. However, I'm pretty sure this isn't very legal, considering JAST is still selling this game, but that's up to them to take action.
I hope that my feedback, even the negative parts can be of help to you. Cheers.

Deep Blue reacted to Ramaladni in VN Article
This article and its author have recently caused an uproar in many discord communities, because the topic of this list seems to come up at any given moment. So, I'll try to provide some context regarding this list and be as civil as possible. My objective is not to be a bully but to give this article a fair analysis.
First of all, I must commend the quality of the writing. Whatever one might say about the content, it is without a shadow of doubt well-written.
The main issue is how the author's objectives are in conflict with each other. This is supposed to be an introductory article for beginners, members of the animanga community. However, the article is extremely lengthy, each entry worthy of being an article of its own. People have a short attention span and by the time most people are done with reading 2 or 3 entries, chances are they're already tired of reading it. If your objective is to convince, then keep it short. Or rather, cut the entry number. Perhaps a top 10 or even a top 5 would suffice.
Regarding the entries themselves and the main objective...they don't really match. Half of these titles are UNTRANSLATED, which is already going to turn away a big chunk of the community. Second, pretty much all of these titles are Long or Very Long. Trust me, hardly anyone would be willing to lay down 50 or more hours for a hobby they're not invested in yet. How about a few shorter titles, such as Narcissu or Planetarian (off the top of my mind). They are short, sweet, have no filler and leave a deep lasting impression. They also don't have Sexual Content.
You also excluded titles which are popularly known in the anime community, such as Clannad, Steins;Gate, Fate/Stay Night and Higurashi. People are more likely to find interest in reading the source material of something they already watched and liked.
And then, the exclusion of moege and gameplay eroge. Like it or not, moege are some of the best-selling games of the medium (second to doujin H-RPGs, I'd say). If the objective was to attract newcomers from a new community, there is absolutely no reason to exclude one of the most popular ""genre"" of visual novels. Gameplay eroge are the closest to videogames and might be just what newbies need to make the transition to full-fledged text-only visual novels.
I'm not going to comment on the entries themselves. After a certain point, they seem to be choosen sort of arbitrarily, merely there to fill the empty space. Honestly, anyone could've picked these titles, but that's not what's important.
If I had to comment on one of them, it would be YU-NO. YU-NO was one my favorite eroge for a period of time. It's also one of the highest rated titles of erogamescape. When you have half-truths and misinformation, others are going to believe it if it's this well-written. This is something that concerns me, as one could think of modern bloggers as the historians of old.
But to be honest, what bothers me the most is how this entry in particular is quite offensive to the medium as a whole. Not only does it ignore the hundreds of games that already existed in other platforms, such as PC-88, but it dismisses them as "cheap pornography". Just because you read two or three random nukige that JAST or whoever it was gave a bad translation 15 years ago, it doesn't make it true. Sadly, there are many great stories yet to be translated which most likely will remain so, due to engine issues and older art which isn't appealing to the modern gamer who plays everything in 4k 120FPS.
To be fair, this title is heavily overrated. The interactivity is incredibly infuriating - not only is it a verb-based game but you literally have to pixel hunt and randomly guess where you should go next. Not only that, but you can't save at will. Because of this, the player is forced to default to a walkthrough. Due to this and many other games with terrible choice systems forcing people to look for walkthroughs, we use walkthroughs even for games with good, carefully crafted systems. As for the content of the game itself, multiple route mystery wasn't anything new at the time. None of the routes really stand strong on their own, except perhaps the stepmother route, the concept of this route having been done better on other games at the time. The sci-fi aspect of the game only exists so that
    - how cool is that? To finish this rant regarding YU-NO, let me tell you something interesting: one of the most important arcs, the whole emotional hook of the epilogue wasn't even written by Kanno himself. The current translation has different versions of the game mixed together, so you have the protagonist rejecting sex with a character in one line, and then deciding to go forward with it in the very next instant.
If I had to say anything else, it would be how you portray YU-NO as an important step forward for the eroge industry and explain its historical value, but you chose the cover from the remake.

The main issues, as pointed out by many others, is that this article is overly ambitious. You have only started reading VNs approximately a year ago and you have only read about 20 titles or less, yet decided to create a recommendation list of a higher number. You recommend titles that you haven't read and can't read (japanese). While there is some original content (SubaHibi and Danganronpa reviews), the description of the remaining entries is a mixture of opinions held by different people. If I wanted to read Conjueror's Sakura no Uta review or kastel's rants, I could do it, they already exist in other places. You could very well have started with a smaller project, publishing reviews of titles you have read with your one and only opinion.
I know I might have been quite harsh, but I'm honestly tired of this topic being brought up every couple hours, no matter where I hang out. That and I'm not sure if you're really interested in the advice of others or if this is just to show off, but so be it. I gave my two cents, and I hope to not have to comment on this further.

    Good luck.

You are wrong, kurisu calls Maho "Senpai" from the first time, she never calls her plain "Maho", now at some point they changed her name to senpai because they HAD TO (and they explain what senpai means) or else the story wouldn't make any sense but this doesn't make sense either way because why kurisu will change all of the sudden changing from using her name to Senpai in that specific part?Guess what? She wouldn't, a lot of serious stuff happened before and after and she never changed the senpai to her name.
See, what you think it was a sensible thing to do it was just something that doesn't make any sense AT ALL and thus a cheap way to fix something for a bad translation decision.

Honorifics are part of their language and culture, just as much as mayuri's way of talking (a childish japanese way of talking)  and how they conjugate verbs depending on the person they are speaking to or the situation they are in.
You cannot have one without the other, you cannot replace a San with a Ms/Mr, the same way you can't replace kun or chan or any other honorific... but wait ohh I see... they didnt replace those with anything, so for example how can you understand that katsumi acts in a really close way to the people around her using the so evil HONORIFICS, yes, you can't, because the translators decided for everyone that you shouldn't care for that and it seems that nobody actually cares as long as the translation looks like if was written by an english author but by doing so they striped the personality of the characters that makes them so unique, all of that is gone because of a bad decision to turn a JAPANESE vn into a weird English wanna be thing.

If you want to read English novels then read something written by an English author, then again what you actually want is some butchered cross version of a Japanese written visual novel turned into some American version, the question is why would you be reading something in Japanese if you are so against its culture and everything that makes it so unique?

In simple terms, you are asking for a hamburger but at the same time asking to take out the meat and add tofu to it

I can recommend you a few depressing VNs that I consider masterpieces or really good ones aside from narcissu, but they have some sci fi or fantasy elements on them:
Tomoyo it's a wonderful life (Don't read the all ages ver they ruined the ending, go figure people don't like sad stuff so they made it happy ) <------this one is probably the only one without fantasy elements... kinda
Fata morgana and then fata morgana another episode <----- a  masterpiece without a doubt, specially the another episode
