I'd suggest Innocent Grey's titles Cartagra, Kara no Shoujo 1 and Kara no Shoujo 2
Apparently there's a third one coming
It's pretty much a brilliant example on how to do a psychological thriller

Learning Japanese is something that might seem like a daunting task that will take forever, which probably scares off a lot of people.

However, it can actually be quite a fun experience depending on how you decide to tackle it, as it's possible learn it through reading visual novels and other media.
It's also quite likely that you will be able to get good enough at Japanese to finish a VN you've been hyped to play before it finishes, or even starts getting a translation, and once done, you'll still have plenty of other VNs  to read, that you might never be able to otherwise.
For those interested in trying, I hope the guide here will help you with starting out and having a nice time.

(note: while it might tempting to do so after you've gotten some proficiency with reading, I'd advise against learning through translating, as it will be much slower than simply just reading more instead, as you'll now have to concentrate on both your japanese and english and the result will probably not be very good yet (translation is difficult).)

Finished Kara no Shoujo 2. I couldn't believe I did it in 4 days. (Considering that it usually takes me a week to finish a game if I have lots free time)
I'm supposed to be reading Sakura no Uta, but decided to take a peek on KnS2. Then I ended up being hooked.
I love the game. Enjoyed it more than the 1st. The game properly continued the prequel on it's True End.
Now I'm craving for Kara no Shoujo 3 (which already has a trailer!)
Yukari is still my favorite character. Probably the only Yamato nadeshiko chara I love.
    I love this picture

Here's my profile. I have Homicide, Murder, Accident, Death, Cruel, Shotgun, and Blade all in the top ten traits . Meaning I rate games containing characters with those traits highly. How about that? It also delivers some recommendations based on this data. I suppose I should finish Muv-Luv Alternative one of these days, and get into the Infinity series. Also, supposedly @douggle is the third most similar user to me on all of VNDB, hey there fellow murder-loving buddy! Actually, it seems that Douggle has a military uniform fetish. I can empathize.

Ok, I'm guessing that most of you who read the blog are wondering what November's VN of the Month is... there was a lot from November, and there was actually a lot I liked.  Here are the posts for November's releases, organized by the VN in question.  Unfortunately, I ran out of time this month because of work and the usual Christmas mess.
    Maggot Baits

Yome Sagashi ga Hakadori sugite Yabai!

    Koko Kara Natsu no Innocence

    Magical Dears

    Kodomo no Asobi

    Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori

I''m going to add a few comments onto this for those who wondered at how polarizing this VN is... because the people who liked this VN tended to love it, and those who disliked it hated it with unreasoning strength.  Here are some reasons/excuses I've come across for hating it..
    1.  Ria's path- The reason?  There are two major reasons why people didn't like Ria or her path... one, lolicons hate her path because she has the absolute weakest path and character development in the VN and her path is basically an excuse to explain what was happening in one particular corner of the larger endgame battlefield.  The others hate it because they hate zombies (in fact, I don't like zombies either) or hate zombies that are goofy in appearance/nature/actions.  To be honest, it felt like they got the worst of both worlds with her, though her origin story was good (moe and zombie mixes are just weird).
    2.  To people who didn't really read the VN (only read the summary and maybe the trial and decided to rate it for that - and there were some of those) the protagonist is a stumbling block.  He seems like the epitome of Japanese nationalism after all... until you get farther in and realize it is pretty much the reverse (he's the opposite of nationalist, lol).
    3.  The poor mixing of moe elements into an otherwise serious VN.  I have to say, this VN would have been much better if the more insipid (as a certain commenter chose to put it, though referring to something else) moe elements - such as Ria - were altered to something a bit less... silly.  Making Yukikaze have Michiru's mouth was one of the poorer decisions I saw from the artist community, even though she is a bit - ok, more than a bit - tsundere.  It enhances that aspect and reminds people of why they hated Michiru from Grisaia.
    4.  It is by the team from Grisaia, and anti-hypers (people who automatically jump on and try to tear into anything that is hyped) will use that as an automatic excuse to hate on it, no matter how well-written it is.  You know the type... the ones who automatically comment negatively on anything popular or anything by a group/band/writer/artist that is popular?
Despite what the last commenter said, I don't consider that an A+ review... more like an A- or a B+.  I rated it pretty highly on vndb because I found it enjoyable, but from a technical design (especially visual character design) point of view, there were some seriously questionable choices in there.  However, from the relativistic point of view - you know, having played a ridiculous number of VNs - it does tend to float near the top layers of the waters of the VN fishbowl.
VN of the Month 2015 announcement
This is pretty much a straight run between Kodomo no Asobi, Koko kara Natsu no Innocence, and Hatsuru.  Hatsuru I almost disqualified because it verged on matching my tastes... except it didn't (don't make me explain).  In the end, from an objective perspective (inasmuch as it is possible to have such) I almost couldn't figure out a solid difference in quality between the three... but I eventually came to the conclusion that Koko kara Natsu no Innocence  was the best candidate.  Look forward to December's releases, sans Miagete.
Edit: One last comment on Hatsuru's protagonist... when I say  he is the opposite of a nationalist, I mean just that.  He is a man who became a soldier because it was a path to getting in a pilot's seat and remained one for the sake of his comrades (both living and dead).  He is also a man who is all too bitterly aware of the price of his country's excesses - and he doesn't know about nukes yet, lol - and has an immense sense of personal responsibility, which is one of the reasons I enjoyed being inside his head.

    Nice thread
    1. Shokugeki no Souma - Simply subarashii in my eyes. This and Kimiuso are my favorite anime(s). I ended up hooked after watching the first episode, and foodgasm is really great. I'm also very fond of Nakiri Erina (tsun tsun). This anime's comedy and souma's attitude made me enjoy it a lot more. The openings and ending songs are really good too. Even now, I'm still singing and listening to "Spice". It's a really nice song.
    2. Charlotte - I heard a lot of people getting disappointed with this anime, but I'm contented with it, since I was already fulfilled on episode 7. haha Episode 7 in itself is a complete story for me.. The impact of that episode alone in me was enormous..  I also want to mention that Yusarin's album is really really good (How-low-hello). I have replayed it for not less than 40 times i guess.
    3. One punch Man - Superb animation and comedy. My first impression in this anime was rather weak, but eventually started to enjoy it when saitama explained how he got very strong
    4. Gakkou Gurashi - Nice thrill.. Kurumi is the best girl
    5. AoHaru Kikanjuu - Reminds me of OuranHSHC, so~

Well summer of 2017 is still a very long time away so I may try reading the visual novel before then.
But when it does come out, if the animations are as good as something like Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade works, then I might end up watching it just to see the epic fight scenes.

    Summary
"To become my true self... I'll become one with them."
Prewar-era Japan. Deep in the snowy mountains of northwestern Japan there exists a settlement called Hitogata, the Village of Dolls. On the night of the festival honoring the clay idol Hinna-sama, a girl is murdered. The villagers all blame Hinna-sama's curse. One outside the faith has joined in the festival of Hinna-sama, and brought the painful death of the curse down upon themself.

October, 1957. Two years have passed since Kuchiki Touko's abduction from her hospital room. Tokisaka Reiji's younger sister saves a man who had tried to commit suicide. He, too, is the most recent victim of "Hinna-sama's curse". Reiji begins his investigation, clinging desperately to the hope that Touko can be saved, and at the same time, a strange religious group said to have dissolved six years ago begins to move again to put a certain plan into motion...

The curse will be carried out, whether by the gods or by human hands.
