I've been neglecting this thread, so here's a summary of the past three days:
I'll cover today first, before launching into painting stuff that nobody cares about, because today was quicker:
Today I spent a fair bit of time in the British Museum. What they have is not so much my thing, but I did spend about an hour in two rooms with a bunch of clocks, a nice display about the mechanisms for clocks and pocketwatches, and some nice history of European (especially British) clockmaking. Also a little bit on marine chronometers. I really, really want a 17th-century Germanic masterpiece clock now - they had everything, man. Here's a good example. Clock? Hah. Any journeyman can make a clock. A master will make you a quarter-striking astrolabic clock enameled with Zodiac symbols, with an armillary sphere mounted on top. I hardly even know what most of those words mean!
On Thursday, when I was supposed to go to Stratford-upon-Avon, jet lag reared its ugly head (despite totally reasonable times going to sleep and waking up the first night and first morning, respectively), and that ruined any possibility of both making it to Hamlet and not sleeping through it (no matter how excited I am about something, if I'm exhausted, seated, and not actively engaging, I will sleep through it). So, instead, I hit up the National Gallery.
Holy shit. I spent all day Thursday there, and decided I had to come back Friday to see the rest. Friday was another full day. I still haven't seen the current big Delacroix exhibition (which is a shame), but I saw literally the whole regular display collection. And what a collection it is! They don't have anything beyond about 1905, which misses one of my favorite movements (Blue Rider and Kandinsky), but they had fantastic pieces in all my other favorite eras, and some works awesome enough to give me new favorites.
I never thought of myself as a Constable fan before, but of course they have the Hay Wain. It's great, sure, but also hanging nearby was this amazing piece called Stratford Mill, which I absolutely fell in love with. Very beautiful lighting and contrast, in both the ground and the sky.
The second day, I came across a Rembrandt called The Blind Tobit and Anna. I have never been so moved by a painting in my life. The light in it is so... soft, and the mood is simultaneously melancholy and content. Absolutely wonderful.
Because they had some rooms closed off, I almost missed a room full of Van Gogh and Cezanne. Since I have plebeian taste, I like French Impressionism as much as the next bourgeois, so that would've been a real shame; that whole room was awesome. I never get tired of seeing Van Gogh paintings of sunflowers or cedars in person. In addition to the gorgeous Cezannes and Van Goghs, they also had a very impressive Rousseau; not someone you see a lot of. Probably all the other guys with stuff in that room would've been horrified to hear his work was hanging next to theirs in a top-notch gallery a hundred years later.
So I'm standing over on one side of that French Impressionism room, glancing all the way across the room, and I see the most bizarre painting: the forms look exactly like a typical Cezanne landscape, but the colors are downright bizarre. I think "that's gotta be a Cezanne, but it sure is weird..." So I sidle up to it and see it labeled "Braque". Braque? That Braque? No way. I read the rest of the description, and it says something to the effect of "This painting, done in Braque's typical wild coloring, was made in 1907 when he was heavily influenced by Cezanne." Ok, I'll give myself a half-point for that one.
Tons of amazing Renaissance paintings, of course. They had a Leonardo, the Madonna of the Rocks; pretty great. Lots of Raphaels, including some rather famous ones. A single half-finished Michelangelo; you can just tell the curators must have really wanted to be able to say they have a Michelangelo, and nobody would sell them a completed one in good shape.
Some very nice Spanish Renaissance paintings - I'm a big Velazquez fan, and although I'd never seen it before, his Immaculate Conception just pulled me across the room. Stunning.
They had three Caravaggios. Three! Unbelievable. The Supper at Emmaus wasn't one I'd seen before, but it's gorgeous. The expressions, the light, the shadows. What a genius. Definitely my favorite murderer / painter.
I never thought of myself as a Canaletto fan before (shit, I don't think I'd even have produced his name if you gave me a day to list every old Italian painter I could think of), but I was sold after seeing a few here; I love his big paintings of Venice filled with boats and people, especially one depicting the annual Regatta on the Grand Canal. Very lively. I think that means I have shit taste, though - apparently his smaller-scale landscapes are "better".
I could go on and on and on. The more time I spend on this post, the more great stuff keeps popping into my head; sorry. This is surely already a lot more than anybody cares to read, and I think I covered most of my favorites, so I'll cut it off here.

And here it is, Chapter 5!

Like I said above, the chapters will now come out on saturdays instead of fridays, to give myself a little more time to write them.
(Doing the bulk of the work after coming home from school on a friday was really tiring. This way I can relax a bit more when I'm writing!)
We are down to very few people, so only a few weeks left now!

I prefer one that isn't actually a villain, but an antagonist.  Where you question who actually is "right", if there is a right.
I don't like Madness since it makes them seem like idiots, and much prefer the genius type (e.g. Maou in Gsenjou).
I recently watched Avengers 2 and it was nice to see a likeable villian (Ultron), he seemed caring for his 2 human minions (at least at the start he was). A villain that is somewhat likeable, and not an evil bastard is refreshing.

    1) It would be more appropriate to just call this one an antagonist, since they can't really be called a villain, strictly speaking, lol.
    2) I'm not terribly fond of this one, because it implies a black and white world view (ala Jedi) that has no practical connections with real existence.
    3) Most of the worst stories have a villain of this type, because there is no need to explain his actions.  After all, he is evil, so there is no need to make him a real character, lol.

I just want to add, that I personally really like villains that say "We're just like each other" and blurs the lines between the villain and the protagonist. I think those kinds of villains are some of the best! I know this isn't really a whole personality, but I think it still adds something to the villain and the story.
I get this is usually in stories where the protagonist himself does some quite questionable actions, but I feel, like I said, it adds something to the story!

I may never be the same again... Clannad broke me but nothing has ever made me question my own sanity as much as this game. The ending was probably the best for me because despite getting two bad endings before the good i realized that this was not a happy story and that there was no happy ending for me. So i may have called what was going to happen because i was so set on this being a tragedy. A beautiful BEAUTIFUL HEART-WRETCHING TRAGEDY AND I WILL PROBABLY HATE YOU FORVEVER because that was the first time i actually fell for a childhood friend in anything, When I can donate or if there's a kickstarter for the sequel i will be there in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work and also sick references xp. So all i can say is play this getting it some recognition and by all means support these people they flipping deserve it.

Such a massive letdown, I should have stayed away after first KR CBT's. BDO is like an entirely different game now. They haven't fixed any of it's major issues, either and I doubt we'll ever get the new combat system revamp they promised us. I swear, I'm never playing any more mmorpg's. I just want to pixel stuff now.
    I resumed work on it.

This was truly an awesome VN and i'm happy to have read this, the true ending really was the kicker for me and I just got so much feels for OkabexKurisu.

Finished Ever 17. And, to be honest, I am a bit disappointed with the ending.
Also, impact of some revelation scenes was lowered because I guessed several plot points. They were still pretty powerful though.
In the end I'm a bit confused that score to give to this VN. It is better than all of the VNs I've given 8 to, but I don't think it deserves a solid 9. I'll still give it 8 for now, though I might reconsider it in the future.
Going to start reading Tokyo Babel tomorrow! Also, is my English good enough for this forum?

kingdomcome reacted to Dergonu in I got some questions about buying VN that have not official English release.
So if you are looking for Japanese VNs, there are several sites that works.
Like in the guide Arc linked above, you can buy them from Gyutto. (I've put in pictures and information to make it doable for people who doesn't speak Japanese.)
There is DLsite, which has an English version with a limited selection.
There is amiami, which often imports a few copies of the newest physical releases, so if it's a fairly new title you might be able to get it there.
You can also use like tenso as a third party shipping partner to get games from Amazon.jp etc sent over to the west, though for all physical games, keep in mind that importing eroge CAN be a legal greyzone depending on the country you live in.

For the patches, there is usually a readme / guide somewhere, like Arc said. Some games simply need you to put a patch file in the main game, where as others require you to install custom fonts and have several steps, like ikikoi.

Generally though, if you do buy the Japanese VN, you will be able to simply install the English patch after, yes.

$140,000 for the base goal, $240,000 for the Houzuki Chapter (from the fandisc)
They have a strange definition of "used for reference," since in this case it seems like they will use it as the basis of their entire translation. However, while it's not a great TL by any means and the original team seems dissatisfied with it, if they give it the same treatment the Muv Luv team is giving to those games, there's still room to get a good quality product.

it´s pretty much all about the last statement of theirs, the faint glimmer of hope of them consider doing additional works after this campaigns possible success, which might be the key-factor in getting people to actually back said project like there´ll no tomorrow, abit similar to what has happened before regarding degica aka 5pb aka mages
    in disguise.

edit. this still wont justify the enourmous gap of 100k between the main game & its houzuki chapter, or their stance on turning the whole thing into a moneymonger-ish dlc fest =/
