kingdomcome reacted to littleshogun in Famitsu reports Kogado Studio's yuri VN Hakuisei Aijou Izonshou to get an English release... next week!
Quite sleepy, and just look at this. Looks like it'll be Dergonu's one of his favorite VN. From the seiyuu, it was mix between senior and newcomer one. I couldn't talk about newcomer, but at least I knew that we had Yukari Tamura and Asami Imai here. For the premise, looks like it'll be about nurse school (Speaking about that, Sonohana also had same premise for more recent game). And I think it's quite good if we based it on VNDB average vote (7.95 right now), although right now it's only had 10 votes though. Since this is Kogado, we better obviously not expected any H-Scenes from them (Now that I think about it, this game obviously perfect candidate for Steam, so will we see many Kogado games entering Steam in the future). And about the gameplay thing, I didn't knew what kind of gameplay they'll offer here, or rather I didn't knew if this VN had the gameplay or not. That's all for my comment at this point about this news.
PS - Just browse youtube for this VN OP, and saw this playlist. Just watch it if you wonder what kind of this VN is (Thanks for the video and translation, billybob300c).

Love, a very short and simple word and yet it's said to weigh more than the whole world. It's said to be the source of all of human's conflicts and problems. It's said to make people stronger, do the impossible, and achieve unthinkable results. It's said to be the harbinger of both war and peace. All of these are only a few facts about love that I know. What about you, what do you know about love?

Love, often confused with lust, is when you care as much (or more) about the other person as you do about yourself. You pay attention to the other person, you take an interest in the other person, you prioritise their well being higher than the ability to watch the weekend footy match in peace. Their habits will irritate you but you endure them because they are important to you.
Lust, often confused with love, is when all you care about is pleasuring your penis (or female equivalent.) You pay little attention to the other person, don’t take an interest in the other person, and prioritise your entertainment and comfort over their well being. Their habits will irritate you which will lead to you seriously considering ending the relationship because there are many ways to pleasure your penis (or female equivalent) that don’t involve putting up with annoyances.
Love at first sight is a lie, while lust at first sight often takes place. That lust can often develop into love, but when it doesn’t these relationships will often fail.
The strength of a love lies in its ability to withstand conflict yada yada, etc etc, and so on and so forth.

There are some instances where you don't need a passport, but it's usually between friendly countries that share borders for land entry. For instance, from what I've read Americans don't need a passport to travel over the border into Canada, but they do need other valid forms of ID, and a passport is easier, unless you have an Enhanced Drivers License from an issuing state (not all states have EDLs yet). Also in Europe if you're a citizen of a European Union country (EU National) you don't have to present a passport when going from one EU country to another - ie, A Finnish resident can cross into Sweden without showing a passport, but would if they went to Romania, as Romania is not a EU member. And it would still be a good idea to have it even in fellow EU countries in case of problems.

kingdomcome reacted to Hanako in Two Years here on Fuwa, Change, Evolution and Many Thanks
Well actually it's not 2 years yet but my brain is sure I created an account in February 2014 so I'll go with this false memory ^^
I'm creating this thread just to express my thanks and how important Fuwa were for me, even if I don't really post ^^"

So, will procede first with a resume of this last 2 years
I discovered VN toward the end of 2013, and even thought I still have the same taste, going here broaden them by several miles.
Now I'm really interested in utsuge for example. x)
So Fuwa, special mention to the skype group, played an important part in my growing. I litteraly grew with you guys.
Objectively, Nagi-sensei is the one who has the most important part in it because he invite me into the very first group (Will probably never forget the convo we had in Lolis VS Nee-san *.*).
But because of this I pretty much disapeared from the forum, which wasn't my intention xD
When I came back here (roughtly 1 year after I disapeared I think) Loligeddon happened and quite the number of drama and salt and the torrent thing, but from my point of view nothing really changed, minus that some of the people I came to knew when I first arrived here vanished, much to my sadness.
But nevertheless, Fuwa still managed to make me laugh enough to make my cry and hold my belly tight (yeah I'm looking at you H-scene cliche thread  )
Really I spend too much time reading forum instead of reading VN
Even though, I'm lurking most of the time I noticed that there is more and more french here xD. And with time passing by I feel like there is more and more people with pecular preference, which is really good if you're interested in it because they can generally answer to your expectation quite well. (just in case my thing is yuri but seems like Dergo took up on my role so for now I'll stay as a yuri ghost here, but fear not I'll evolve even further than any of the yurist here  )
But on the other side, we lost some good and bad things. Sadly there is not helping, time is quite cruel for this.

Now a text wall for all the main skype group that came into existance thanks to Fuwa (so the first group, FSK, FSG and FSJPG)
Feel free to skip this part if it bore you like the rest of this topic xp
Some time ago, I heard that those skype group actually has a bad reputation, so I'd like to correct it.
I'll be blunt : we are really awful human being there xD We will most of the time shittalk about your favourite thing, but we expect you to not take it badly, you can also shittalk about our waifu, there will always be at least one person who will support you xp But we all respect what you may or may not like, and I'm sure that somewhere reaaaaally deep most of us care for the other, no homo we're all cute 2D grill after all.
Sure we have a humor.... special at least, but we don't bit very often. Thought, I won't deny that there was some really retarded drama (well they always happened when I was away so I don't actually know them firsthand ^^" )
Really, if you let loose a little there it's almost always funny. I spend hours (and I really mean it) laughing non-stop at the chat.
I litterally grew up with those group, like stated above. It lets my oddball charac and my sadistic side bloom by creating some meme on our member. I mean we all know that Ember (RIP in cooking now :/ ) is a girl, and that Shameful is an uncurable siscon  .
I like doing jab, and the skype group was the perfect place to train me on doing jab thanks to that feeling of friendship/family.
But it's not all good, right now we have a lot of inside joke and meme, so much that months ago Zaka created a surviving guide, and it was completly oblsolete after 1 month xD
On the other side, if you managed to catch up thing or stay there long enough, you'll probably find nice friend to share your passion with, and also more personal stuff that can't be displayed here.
For example, last May, I collapsed several time, putting me in a hazy state, made me stop my study for the rest of the scholar year, and therefore couldn't pass my year, even though until then I had valided everything. Could have redone this year but, it's likely impossible with my state of mind (hate doing stuff I already did) and my health (40 hours per week is just too much for me now).
Well, when I said I had to go to the hospital because of my health they ignored me (allow me this little vengence xp ). But when I tell them that I just learned that I have a lifelong uncurable sickness (not deadly in itself but may create dangerous situation) most of them were genuily worried for me. And even if it changed nearly nothing to how I face it, it felt really nice.
It's probably because of them that I'm learning japanese right now (mainly because Nagi-sensei though xp)
If it wasn't for them I would probably be somewhere else less happy than now.
Really, those group are such an important part of my development on the last 2 years, it's almost ridiculous.
So yeah, even if being weird is like a requirement to enjoy the group silliness, I don't want people to thing of the group as cancer or somewhere where there is nothing funny to do.
Btw , it seems that for some time now, there is many project growing there, in the shadow like Zealty's tl of Hapymaher     .

Now to came back to Fuwa, I'd like to express my deepess thanks to @Tay who take up the role of Aeeru and made Fuwa stay alive. Thanks to him, I got to meet you. So, thanks a lot.
Fuwa made a lot of small things, without even noticing, to help me in more than one way. I'd like to repay the community as a whole (even those I don't know yet or will maybe never know). But, as it stand now, it's impossible. But soon enough (count years xD) we will maybe pull out a lot of new people in this media we all like. Yes, yes "we"
I can't really repay you here, on the forum, but I will work behind the scene on several project, which I hope you will like.

So now the last thanks (even the absents ones). Note: tried to write the name in their order of appearence, but they may be off because of my fuzy memory so sorry ^^"
So sensei, thanks for a lot of stuff, may your loli imouto never leave you ;p

kingdomcome reacted to babiker in A dilemma of Siblings: To Fix or Not To Fix?
Been a while since I made a thread over here, let alone a serious thread... But any who, as the title suggests, I currently have a lot of trouble getting along with one of my siblings. In particular, my sister.
To give you a bit a of a backstory, I've been closer to my sister than to anyone else in my family, probably to anyone else I've ever met. She's a year older than me, and since I was little I would depend on her for pretty much everything. A friend (my only friend at the time) to play with, a walking-talking wikipedia, an emotional bank to listen to all my problems-you name it. We've always had almost identical taste and interest; she watched what I watched, she read what I read, and vice versa. Sometime around middle school however, things started to balance out. She entered her "teen" years way before me, but ya know, girls are girls: This period of time is much harder on them. She started complaining and confiding in me way more than I would in her. At first I found this rather refreshing, considering I was the younger one. It felt like an honor just listening to her problems (God how silly that sounds to me now lol). For some reason, her stories never bored me. This is just your average girl drama; she doesn't like me, she didn't say hi to me, what did I do brah?!?! And things along that line. She was a little cranky now and then but the fun we had together greatly outweighed her temper tantrums.
We reached the peak of our bro/sishood in high school, when neither of us was an idiot anymore and our hobbies were still pretty close. I started spending a little too much time on games in this period, and less time with her. Our tastes also started to differ slightly, I started finding trouble enjoying the over-emotional drama novels she seemed to love, while she found my fantasy epics tedious. But we were still super close, and I felt nothing could ever pull us apart.
    Then university happened.
University was beyond anything we, in particular she, had expected. My sister entered medicine, which as you may know pretty much saps every last minute of your everyday life. She no longer had the time to even have much drama in her life, let alone having any to tell me. Her free time became extremely limited, and she preferred spending it on her own interests that had grown ever so far from mine. During this period, I developed a rather abnormal love for animu and eventually, visual novels. Silly and dumb as it may sound, the generic 2D girls on the screen telling me their silly everyday problems eventually filled the void I had. I use to struggle to find time to chat and have fun with my sis during her early uni days, but now... I no longer felt the need to.
After about a year of this being the status quo, I felt bad for kinda ditching my sister for a bunch of virtual girls, so I tried to bridge the gap between us during the summer. I tried to get her into anime, and the results were really meh. About one out of three shows I'd suggest, she would like, the rest she'd distaste with vigor. This really got to me for some reason. I thought I at least knew my sister's taste, but apparently I was wrong. After a while I got fed up of her trashing all muh animu (it got to the point that I was beginning to dislike them for no reason myself), so I tried to get her into VNs.
Yup, I tried to get my sister into Japanese adult visual porn books.
Without getting into the embarrassing details, it failed. Big time. At this point I felt exhausted, and finally gave up on trying to get her interested in any of muh stuff. At that point it felt more like I was forcing my interests onto her, so I stopped. I accepted the fact that our interests have grown separately and that we no longer have much to enjoy together.
Then it dawned on me that she really wasn't interested in regaining the strong relationship we once had. This was a hard pill to swallow, but eventually I accepted it as well. Her not caring made it a lot easier for me to not care too. Problems between two sides can only be fixed if both are willing to fix the problem.
... And that leads us to our current status. The status of, well, almost no relationship at all.
So the question is more or less, is this a problem that should be fixed or ignored? I've tried what I could, to no avail. I really dislike the current, extremely shallow relationship we have, but I don't think it's in my power to change it.

I should point out that the Federal Court of Australia ordered the ISP addresses and contact information of all people who shared (pirated) 'Dallas Buyers Club' to be turned over to the copyright holders in America so they could pursue further action. After weighing things up they decided it wasn't worth it, but the lesson learnt was you can be exposed while in a different country. Cease and Desist works the same way, copyright doesn't stop once you hit a border.
Copyright is a thing, copyright infringement is a thing, the threat is very real, and it's up to the individual who will be affected to risk actions which potentially endanger themselves in the future - people not affected shouldn't have a say.
Snowden's seeking asylum in literally the only country willing to protect him. He's decidedly unhappy.
EDIT: In April 2015, the Court ordered ISPs to hand over contact information of those who downloaded the movie. However in August 2015 the court ruled that the ISPs needn't hand over contact information because the damages sought by the company was too great. And that in the court's mind, damages should be limited to the cost of the movie + a share of court costs. That being said, it means that Americans can potentially sue Australians for damages for copyright infringement.

kingdomcome reacted to Getsuya in Trade Games/Books for my VN Collection! (US only sorry)
So I'm getting married in 2 months.
While my wife enjoys video games and doesn't mind me playing them one bit, I just don't feel like the VNs I own are something I'm going to want to play once we're living together. Nor do I think I'll ever have the time to sit down and read through any of them.
Honestly I was considering just throwing them away. That might sound horrific, but I don't have the boxes or manuals for any of them so I just have a bunch of naked (official) DVDs in a case, so I can't really sell them. I mean I could, but I feel like I wouldn't get a very nice price for the set and selling them one by one would be a huge pain and not worth it in the end.

Then a thought came to me: how about instead of selling them I pass them on to someone else who will enjoy them?
And so I would like to offer a chance to one lucky Fuwan to receive my collection of Japanese all-ages VNs (sorry no adult stuff in my collection). The contents are as follows (note as I said all of these are just the discs, no box or manual for any)
PS2 Higurashi Matsuri (w/ 2 disc soundtrack) (this is the Higurashi PS2 game that was released before Part 8 was out, so it has a different ending than the rest of the series. If you want the real ending you have to buy Higurashi Append separately.)
(Note also that Japanese PS1/2 games will only work with Japanese region PS2/1s and that Key PC games need to be patched to work with non-Japanese PCs)
    PS2 Haru no Ashioto (https://vndb.org/v179)
PS1 Hiza no Ue no Partner (a raising sim sort of like Princess Maker except you're raising 3 adorable cat girls. I never got around to trying it out it just looked cute)
    PS1 Kagayaku Kisetsu he (https://vndb.org/v51)
    PS2 Galaxy Angel (https://vndb.org/v860)
    PS2 Kanon (https://vndb.org/v33)
PS2 Te no Hira wo Taiyou ni (https://vndb.org/v1113)
    PS2 Memories Off Duet (https://vndb.org/r26470)
PC Rewrite (requires Japanese PC or patch) (w/soundtrack)
    PS2 Clannad (https://vndb.org/v4)
    PS2 Mai-Hime (https://vndb.org/v65)
PS2 Brighter Than Dawning Blue (https://vndb.org/v232)
    PS2 Iris (https://vndb.org/v2312)
PC Symphonic Rain (w/ special ost)
    PS1 Sister Princess (https://vndb.org/v4681)
    PC Little Busters (https://vndb.org/v5)
PC Angel Beats (requires Japanese PC or patch) (w/ 2 osts) (https://vndb.org/v13774)
Now while I don't want to sell these I also don't want to just give them away. Instead I want to give you something you can enjoy and I'd like to receive something I can enjoy in exchange!
The two things I'd love to receive in return are games or books.
What kinds of games? Either US or Japanese PS1/2 or DS games or US 3DS games. I like RPGs and horror games especially, though I'm willing to consider all kinds of offers.
As for books I'd like complete series of novels either Japanese or English. I hate having to buy pieces of a series so it's all or nothing. I like sci-fi, fantasy, horror, mystery... honestly any good novel series could catch my eye.
Though I'm offering 16 games, some of which were quite expensive when I bought them and which you will be getting without needing to pay shipping like you would if you were to try to get them from Japan, I am not asking for a completely equal exchange. These are naked disks and there's a fair chance you may not like all of them (though I did pick all the games (minus the cat-raising one) from lists of highly rated VNs) so I'm not going to be too greedy. But please make fair offers.
I would feel bad making you bid against each other which I think would just cause bad feelings so what I'm going to do is give it a week. At the end of a week I will choose the person who has made the most interesting and fair offer (or an offer I found to be exceedingly interesting or exceedingly fair) and communicate with that person to set up the shipment.
During the week I'll pop in to let people know if some of the things I'm being offered are things I already own, just to keep things fair.

(DVDs or Blu-Rays of classic black and white horror films would also be appreciated)

kingdomcome reacted to Mirrormn in Idol Mahou Shoujo Chiru Chiru☆Michiru (Part 1)
    An update to this project:

It's done. I finished my English patch for Part 1 on December 23 last year, and I finished my English patch for Part 2 (as well as some small revisions to Part 1) today, March 16, 2015. Everything is translated, quality checked, styled, polished, beautified, packaged, etc.

I will not release it publicly. I'm sure this is probably not what you want to hear, and it's not something I want to have to say, but my hands are pretty much tied. To explain why, here's a brief and necessarily vague overview of what has happened since the last time I posted in this thread:

As you can see earlier in the thread, Sekai Project pre-announced that they were considering producing an official English release of the Grisaia no Kajitsu series, with Chiru Chiru Michiru as a possible stretch goal to their Kickstarter campaign, just a few hours after I initially posted to announce that I was working on the VN. I contacted Sekai Project by the email form on their website, informing them that I was already half-way through translating the game, offering to work with them, and stating that I planned to finish the project regardless of anything else that happened. I received a response soon afterward from Raymond Qian, the CEO. He wanted me to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement before he would talk to me, and I agreed to that stipulation, signed the contract he sent me, and waited.

When we began to talk in earnest, it became clear the he was not at all interested in working with me. We discussed a few particulars of the situation, business details that I can't go into due to the NDA, but it seemed like he never even entertained the possibility that I could be a potential benefit to his endeavors rather than a threat. He was fairly adamant that I stop work on my project immediately, but I refused; even if I couldn't release anything to the public, I was going to continue with the translation itself. In the end, he asked me to remain completely silent about anything related to Chiru Chiru Michiru, and essentially disappear from public view, until the Grisaia Kickstarter had finished. I agreed to this.

In case you didn't know, a translation of a fictional work is considered a "derivative work" in copyright law. It's very similar to a sequel, side story, or fanfiction. The anime community (both Japanese and foreign) in general, and the community of English-speaking fans of visual novels in particular, thrives off of the creation of such derivative works. I originally bought Chiru Chiru Michiru at Comiket, a bi-annual event in the heart of Tokyo with an attendance of over half a million people that is completely dedicated to creation and sale of derivative works (mostly in the form of doujin manga). Grisaia no Kajitsu owes all of its popularity among English speakers to the efforts of Koestl and the TLWiki team that created the original Grisaia no Kajitsu translation as an unauthorized derivative work. But the fact remains, rights to a derivative work remain with owner of the original work's copyright. In other words, it is simply not legal for me to release my patch for Chiru Chiru Michiru to the public.

Most doujins, VN translation patches, anime fansubs, etc. manage to slip into a gray area in the law due to the anonymity of their creators or the lack of financial threat they pose to the business driven by the original work. Indeed, the original fan translation of Grisaia no Kajitsu did far more good for the series than it did bad; without it, the English-speaking audience for it would have likely gone forever untapped. But, I cannot slip into this grey area; my options have been made very black and white. I have no anonymity, and Sekai Project clearly sees me as a financial threat. I can choose only to release my work to the public in direct defiance of copyright law, or sit on it. So, I'm sitting on it. It's infinitely frustrating, but I have no choice.

I don't regret the choice to bring this project to completion, though, even if nobody can see it in the end. It was an unbelievable amount of work, but it was fun as well, and I gained a lot of confidence in my translation abilities in the process. I'm also incredibly proud of the end result, as it turned out far better than I ever could have imagined when I started the project. In the beginning, I legitimately thought I wouldn't be able to even finish the entire script, but now, I truly think I managed to create a version of the game that any Michiru fan would be glad to read. I'm actually at the point where I think it has a chance of ending up as being comparable in quality to the eventual official version.

Going forward, I hope to continue doing fan translations, hopefully for some less legally controversial titles. You may even see me around here sometime in the future with another visual novel project. And finally, I apologize for this post being, essentially, a message of "You get nothing." It almost seems unnecessary, or even arrogant, to provide this update, since there's no benefit to the people reading it. From an objective outside perspective, I might as well have just remained in my "mysteriously disappeared" status in this thread. Still, I wanted to share my story and keep people filled in. If nothing else, hopefully some people's curiosity has been abated.

And, thankfully for you, as a reader, the Grisaia Kickstarter is finished, and it did meet the stretch goal for Chiru Chiru Michiru, so even without me, you'll be able to read it, sometime in the future, when the official English version is released. I don't know any details about the progress or planned date of that release (and even if I did, I wouldn't be able to tell you), so you'll just have to wait for it. I'll be waiting too.

Today I learned that watersports doesn't necessarily mean stuff like water polo

Well there are several Youtubers that play vn's on their channels like LostPause or TheAnimeMan, you'd have to limit yourself to all ages or censoring the fuck out of whatever you play and also other rules that apply to youtube.
It's not easy but could be done I guess also lenght might also prove a bit difficult when it comes to keeping up the interest of the audience, if you're charismatic or provide great commentary maybe would work but there's also copyright issues which may get in your way when playing things from Sekai Project for example, there's been cases when they only allowed youtubers to play only until a certain part of the vn.
I know i'm probably sounding super pessimistic but I know it's not easy to do but if you can pull it off then it might be great. Best of luck regardless

    Broooo, come @ me.
I agree with you. If you can manage to pump out consistent videos which are of high quality (well presented), I think you could do very well.

Nothing will compare to my High school Chinese classes in terms of difficulty. How intense was it? Within the first month she made each student sign a contract telling us that she would no longer use any English in the class, and that any English she heard us speaking would result in a 1 point deduction from our overall grade. Meaning after the first month, the class became 100% immersive. She explained all new grammar, vocab, etc in Chinese. She would tell us when assignments were due, quickly in Chinese. On top of that, a typical homework assignment was writing a page length of stuff in Chinese each day. This bitch was crazy. Hell, I think this class was probably harder than most College level Chinese classes. Needless to say, my Japanese classes are very reasonable compared to my one other language learning experience.

Decay's PM just has to go here, for it rivals the very essence and origins of this thread being OriginalRen's 'fession of believing suikashoujo being a dude when in reality she was female
    Behold!
