  1. As someone who doesn't like h-scenes but finds himself surrounded by h-scene proponents in this forum, this feature is exactly what I want. Everyone wins.
  2. I just want to comment that: The Houzuki route in the fan disc is a must read. In fact it's arguably better than the main story.
  3. That's dumb. I'm not a native English/Japanese speaker, but the first word coming to my mind for 軍団 is legion, and the first Japanese word coming to my mind for platoon is 小隊. Guess I'll just have to give up the English version.
  4. To think I once planned to play it again in English, guess it's not a wise decision. How bad is the translation? Since I wouldn't bother to go through the video, care to show me an example?
  5. Meh, ignorance is bliss. "These two games might be the best visual novels in the world. And i've played a lot of translated visual novels by now." There, fixed it for ya. Judging by the titles you listed, you've only scratched the surface of VN. Here's a quote of Sir Isaac Newton: I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.
  6. Regarding Aまでなら Since I still lack context and background info, if I would hazard a guess, assuming A refers to A Rise, the connotation behind this sentence perhaps is "if even Rise is involved in this kind of relationship(危ない展開), then I can use this scandal as leverage against her in order to beat her in popularity"
  7. So the shit finally hit the fan. Fuwa civil war imminent. For me, I only read VN on console where it's mandatory for game companies to remove all H scenes. And I never feel off, or that something is amiss in the story. This is expected because H scenes are generally fillers targeting a certain audience which I don't belong to. But since I can't change other people's opinion, I just hope all VN companies include an option to allow players to turn off H content so everyone would be happy.
  8. Too bad no Japanese, otherwise I'll definitely recommend 428 ~Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de~, a critically acclaimed VN that received a score of 40/40 from famitsu, yet largely ignored by western community.
  9. I'm wondering how comfortable it is to play a PC VN using touch screen? And I couldn't stop tingling with mixed feelings the moment I saw a screenshot of White Album 2. I just finished introductory chapter on PS3, it's a must read for all romance VN fans. 一看到White Album 2的截图我就百感交集。刚刚在PS3上通了introductory chapter,简直是纯爱神作。
  10. It seems there's a PSN version. Also Aquaplus always release its games eventually as AquaPlus2800, aka, greatest hit edition, which is much cheaper.
  11. Drop it and switch to To Heart 2 DX+ on PS3. It's the ultimate version.
  12. I'm a fan of their games too. I played every title released by Aquaplus. Now reading White Album 2 and being greatly moved. YOU SHOULD TRY IT TOO.
  13. Looks like it's the ultimate version of Higurashi with many enhancements, I'm glad I haven't touched this series and will definitely pick this one up.
  14. Yeah, it's well written or else I would not have been this shocked. BUT, how I wish it was some other heroine in Clannad that got involved in this mess, anyone but my beloved tomoyo... That being said, I don't like the protagonist in Tomoyo route of Clannad either. He believed tomoyo was not one of his kind and gave up easily (damn you tomoya), while the tomoya I knew in other routes wouldn't throw in the towel without a serious fight. What's worse, while I was still struggling against depression and indignation after witnessing their breakup, they somehow ended up together again in the ending. But why? It's as if the writer decided to pacify the possible fan flame and forced out a happy ending. Too bad I was not happy at all, in fact I'd rather they just part ways and move on since I deem the protagonist unworthy of tomoyo's affection and sacrifice, aka, I saw no mental growth in the protagonist till the very end.
  15. My thoughts exactly. I even believe the writer somehow projects his own value onto the male protagonist, and all I can do is follow his decision to the bitter end. I kept questioning Tomoya's belief, as to why Tomo must be returned to the family that abandoned her in the first place, when she could instead receive care and affection in a loving family-like group, not to mention that her blood family lives in a remote village without a proper school. I would have chosen to adopt Tomo myself should I have the option to do so, but I was deprived of this privilege.
  16. Again I'm happy that there's finally someone I can discuss this game with. It's one of my favorite RPG series.
  17. OMG, tomoyo after... My beloved tomoyo, sniff... Who wrote the script of tomoyo after? Who? WHO? I promise I'll not kill you...yet.
  18. I'm glad that someone here played this series, and I'm gonna elaborate a little more on why I prefer Tiara 1. Also, whenever I talk about the first game, I refer to the PS3 version unless stated otherwise. I'm wondering if you played the PS3 or PC version of the first game, since presentation (voice over, graphics, music) can sway one's opinion on the story. You testified to this as well: The massive presentation improvements in the PS3 remake help the reader connect with the story much more easily. I glanced at the screenshots of the PC version and can't find myself interested to play this primitive version. As for character development, I still find that Tiara 2 only fleshes out the two protagonists well, and the delineation of the female villain is somewhat similar as the male villain in Tiara 1 (the general of the empire). In fact I don't remember much about the cast in Tiara 2 except the two protagonists, while I can still clearly call out the names of most characters in the first game, despite the fact that I played Tiara 1 much earlier than Tiara 2. This may be because: 1. There are several sub events in Tiara 1 that talk about the daily event of the cast. These slice-of-life episodes contribute to the development of the sub characters. No such events exist in Tiara 2. 2. I played the spin off of Tiara 1, which further strengthened my impression on the cast. The theme of the first game also focuses on religion. It explains the foundation of the world that Tiara 2 inherits, and the past events that shape the world and the personality of the two protagonists. The writer spends much screen time during the second half of the game telling an epic backstory that can be easily related with, and the game soon reaches its ending after the backstory scenes. So the curve of the story quality starts off normal, then steadily climbs until it finally reaches the peak around 3/4 of the game time, and drops off toward the end. That's why the ending didn't disappoint me much because I was still thrilled at the epic backstory and maintained strong identification with the two protagonists during the end. On the contrary, I tingled with excitement at the fantastic scenes (the uprising during the midnight ritual) in the early chapters of Tiara 2, saw great potential in the two protagonists and yearned for more of such epicness, but unfortunately my craving went unfulfilled all the way to the end. My biggest gripe with Tiara 2 is that it shows its cards way too early and fails to satiate the tantalized reader later. Should the writer create another epic climax near the end, the story would have been much more entertaining.
  19. The extra content is definitely worth it. Ecstasy offers revised plot, 3 new routes, 15 new bgm, etc. All these added contents are of high quality.
  20. I never played the PC version, but according to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, both the gameplay and the story underwent a major overhaul (gameplay changed from RTS to SRPG, and they modified and added a lot to the story and graphics), so you can treat the PS3 version as a completely new game.
  21. I never played the PC version, but apparently it's very inferior to the remake, which remains a PS3 exclusive. I haven't heard about any backport patch for PC. As I said, you don't need to play the first game in order to understand the second one.
