It's been a number of years since I played it (on VICE) but Bruce Lee is a good example of how a game can be fun even when the graphics don't really look like anything.  (What is all that stuff in the background?  Some of it just looks like random pixels).  The sumo wrestler you fight is green--like it's the incredible hulk became a sumo wrestler or something.  But I still think it's a fun game.

Metal Slug, of course, has some very entertaining pixel art and animation...one of the best games of the late 90's, I think

It's actually all I play (besides visual novels/dating sims and Project Diva)

Every year at some point I play through one of the original (2D) Super Mario games and Lode Runner.

I hold a classic gaming challenge night once every 1-2 months too.
    The last one featured:
    Archon
    Warlords
    Magical Drop 3
    Money Idol Exchanger
    Mustache Boy
    Clu Clu Land

When I go to Anime Weekend Atlanta they have had a classic gaming room set up for the last 4-5 years.
Trying to remember what I played last time:
They had Sexy Parodius, I remember that.
Both Cotton Boomerang and Cottom Panorama.
Dracula X for the PC Engine.
They always have Magical Drop 3 and usually one other puzzle like Tokimeki Memorial or Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Oh and they had Sailor Moon, that was a surprise.
The year before they actually had a Vectrex.  First time I ever saw one in person.

I was thinking more about arcade/console games for some reason in my earlier post, but I still have a lot of my MS-DOS favorite games too...like Wing Commander.  And Lemmings.

I wonder if anyone else ever played Metal & Lace...

Ebola can be transmitted through the air via tiny droplets that emerge when you cough or sneeze.  Even you don't breathe them in, if these tiny droplets should land on you or some object near you...
Have you ever been in a situation where you were on a plane, in a theater, in a meeting, etc. and somebody was coughing right near you for a period of time?
Have you ever forgotten to wash your hands before eating, or touched something that a sick person used and touched your own eyes or nose without thinking about it?
Most people know how to avoid getting a cold, but mistakes can happen.
When you're risking just getting a cold, it's not so bad.
When you're risking getting a killer hemorrhagic fever that has no cure, you might want to take it more seriously.
The people who treated the Ebola patients, don't you think they took every precaution imaginable?  And then came down with it anyway?
Isn't it better to err on the side of caution given the symptoms of the illness and its recovery rate?

Christianity.  Primarily of the Roman Catholic persuasion, because it is one of the forms with the oldest lineage.  (I guess we will probably not find any Fundamentalist Christians on a forum like this :-) )

I could fill a whole page with "Why Christianity?"  Instead of talking about that, though, I'd like to consider what makes people gravitate toward a religion or not.
A lot of it has to do with finding the meaning of life.
Is it possible to find the meaning of life in this world in which we live?  If you can decide for yourself what to make of your life, and accomplish the things that you yourself want to accomplish, is that the meaning of life?  Or, is the meaning of life only truly found by transcending this world, and discovering the existence of a higher power?  Which do you think?

By the way, there is a movie (and a book) called "The Life of Pi".  Came out a couple years ago.  If you want to understand what it's like to have faith, you should see this movie.  (Quite a bit of action in it, too.)  Several of the world's major religions are mentioned in it.  It tries to show you the common factor underlying these different faiths, and why and how people come to truly believe in something.

One of the most valuable things required to succeed in fan translation is motivation, and chance of success is related to how much a translator cares about getting that game released.

I really have no faith in the "job bulletin board" concept, and don't think it applies at all to a field where there is no incentive except for one's personal motivation. It may have some lucky hits here and there, but as a whole is kind of outdated. The minimum requirement to get this kind of concept to work is to create some kind of demand for wanting to be a translator that is not immediately overwhelmed by the supply of things to translate.

I'd even go as far as argue that this very "job bulletin board" model is also why there are so many failed translation projects. (Of course, I can't argue that it increases the amount of failed translation projects, since the reason there would be less would be because there are less translation projects in general, and a translation project not started is technically a dead project)

Well, enough ranting. The state of fan translation is pretty difficult to change, and I don't think it will ever get to the level of anime/manga simply due to how much harder and less rewarding translating a VN is.

What traits does a human being have that an animal doesn't?

-the ability to reject your instincts.  Human beings go on hunger strikes.  They deliberately abstain from sex.  They force themselves to stay awake when they are sleepy.  And so on.  As far as I know, animals don't do these things...

-they are sentient.  They are not only aware of their own existence, but they can also question it.

-they have a complex language.  Many people feel that words are the basis for humans' ability to reason.  All around the world, languages that were once assumed to be primitive, once carefully studied, turned out to have the same ability to express abstract concepts as the languages in supposedly higher civilizations.  And unlike writing, no one has been able to trace spoken language back to its origin.  It seems that as long as humans have existed, language has existed.

This morning I became fascinated with this line, so I did a little more research on it.

After picking it apart, I guess would have written something like "To know what one knows, and to know what one does not know:  this is knowledge."
Which is pretty much the same thing that you wrote.

I found a modern translation of the Analects of Confucius:  They translate the line as:
"To know when you know something, and to know when you don't know, that's knowledge."

Then I found an older version of the Anelects which has:
"When you know a thing, to hold that you know it; and when you do not know a thing, to allow that you do not know it;--this is knowledge."

That last version not only makes full use of the capabilities of English, but also renders it in an old-fashioned, proverb-esque way that is very hard for those of us living in the modern world to fake...
