  1. ミリ = millimeter 単位 = unit 見切る(な) = (don't) carefully look and make a judgement So we get "don't distinguish over a millimeter's difference," or, more naturally, "Don't split hairs over an eighth of an inch!" Second sentence: 達人 = expert 思う = [i will] think だろ = "probably," but with 思う being in the nonpast plain you can think of it as a hint that 思う should be first-person future in English. Sort of. This explanation is clearly awful BUT Anyways, we get "You'll make me think you're an expert." This is all referring to the previous line, "That 'one touch' was only me letting [him/her/you/it] touch my uniform" (though I don't like that wording much fwiw). The second line seems simple to me, unless there's something weird going on in context?

  3. Names is basically the line, yeah... But I dunno. Making up names for people on AAI2 was so much fun; I kinda miss it >_> As for the Momoyo line, it became: "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peaches and placed them perniciously in my purview."
  4. There's a really interesting balance there. This game is chock-full of puns and references that, if translated literally, basically demand fluency in Japanese to understand: "Wanko" being an punny reading of 一子 (Kazuko), where "wan" also means "woof"; puns based on Momo meaning "peach" (ももよもももももものうち, "momoyo mo momo mo momo no uchi" is a fun line that just sort of keels over and dies if I translate it literally as "Momoyo and peaches are both members of the peach family"); Takuya becomes Takuyo when he's crossdressing because "ya" is a masculine name-ending while "yo" is a feminine one, which is especially confusing to Western ears because we're used to hearing -a endings as feminine; "Until you cry I wait / Oh cuckoo" in English sounds more like the words of a crazy person than the literary allusion it is; the phrase "a punch with the intensity of a rising dragon" is going to lack a certain oomph if you don't know that's the literal translation of "shouryuuken." Determining which ones to change and which ones you're stuck with is... fun. I generally side with changing more things because I feel that makes the final project more enjoyable. But I digress.

  8. Not quite true. Kazuko and Miyako's are both short, Yukie and Chris are a bit longer (and all four are sex-heavy), but Momoyo's and Agave's are both a decent length; Momoyo's actually has more plot than porn (Agave breaks even). Speaking of, Momoyo won the vote, so good job there.
  9. Nah, it's serious. Basically, on your birthday, an option in the bonus menu gets unlocked that you can click on that plays a random skit (like the end-of-game skits, only with more happy birthday wishes).

  11. This estimate is, at best, silly. Even in the strange circumstance where Ouraibaa doesn't change a single thing I wrote, reading with a critical eye takes significantly longer than reading for fun. If you think you can do the job that fast, I would not want you to do it. Making all the characters sound weird in sex scenes would be bad and unprofessional. The real problem is, the original sex scenes in Majikoi are frequently bad, disgusting, stupidly long, and/or filled with repetitive onomatopoeia. Though there are a few diamonds in the rough...
  12. not really. the scripts' filenames, while not immediately intuitive, are pretty simple to map out to each of the routes. (Letter gives the character [in roughly order they're in on the route select screen], first number is usually [but not necessarily] the subroute. Then there's an underscore, followed by the in-game date of that script, followed by an underscore, followed by that script's position on that date. For instance, if on 11/3, you go on a date and then have sex with character d, the date would be d1_1103_0, and the sex scene would be d1_1103_1.) Number of lines to translate is roughly the same number that I did in total for Majikoi, though a... significantly higher percentage of them are sex scenes. The biggest problem is that speakers are not explicitly stated in the script (except, strangely, the first time they speak in any given script...?)--instead, they're implied by the filename of the voice clip. And in those filenames, each character is mapped to a single integer (which goes up to at least 212!!!), so a mapping from integers to names is necessary.

  17. for the record, I don't recall any Chinese lines in Miyako's route (and certainly haven't hit any so far). I started at the point where Yandere ended because lazy. (I had no idea that the Kazama route had a partial translation!) Might go back and redo the first 1.5k-odd lines if there's enough demand for it. Gratuitous Chinese in Japanese texts is really rare. You're much more likely to find gratuitous English (heck, Chris has more English lines than German). Pugnator: All Japanese kanji are derived from Chinese hanzi, but due to various reasons (the two biggest being that a number of characters simply are not used in Japanese [there are technically 6,000-odd kanji; 2,000 is enough to be considered literate, and even including names and rare kanji 3,000 is the actual number] and differing simplification processes over the years) the two sets aren't identical. It's kind of like how ß and accented letters don't mean anything in English (and with English native speakers often not having the slightest clue how to pronounce them). also I wish I had infinite free time.
  18. This is correct. Basically, "Naoe-san" is being used to refer to Yamato's father, not Yamato himself. Similar to how you might say in English "Mr. Naoe's son Yamato." But mixing English titles and Japanese honorifics in one phrase (i.e. "Mr. Naoe's son Yamato-kun") looks so weird. "Naoe-san's son Yamato-kun" could work, but it might also cause confusion. I dunno~
  19. re: that line: It's... kinda weird, yeah. Should be more like, "Yamato-kun from the house of Naoe told me to hold back using eye contact." Though that phrasing still needs some work; it's too stilted for Kazuko... Touma uses both "Naoe-san" and "Naoe-kun." Tadakatsu uses Naoe. Mayo uses Naoe-chan. Chika uses Naocchi. Chris goes for "Naoe Yamato" on occasion. Probably lots of others I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. In other news, I've finished checking Moro's route; it's in Ouraibaa's hands now.
