  1. I don't think you can make multiple accounts on the same email address. Try waiting for a while, sometimes password retrieval emails take a while to come through (also check your other emails addresses and spam folder).
  2. Haha I wasn't that bad but that game has definitely scarred me mentally.
  3. The first one has been freeware for at least a couple of years, but I couldn't get it to work on Windows 7 when I tried installing it a while back. Looks like it's available on Mac and Linux now too.
  4. Looks like they've updated the engine too. http://store.steampowered.com/app/264380/
  5. Ah yes I've played G-Senjou no Maou. I'm pretty amped for this now!
  6. Just downloading Grisaia no Kajitsu as it seems to be being mentioned everywhere I look! Are there any VNs that it is similar to? Don't know what to expect.
  7. I actually remember the things I hated about the VNs I've read most vividly. The scene I remember most is from Muv-Luv Alternative: It's strange that I don't really remember the bits from VNs that I liked, however, it's kind of a blessing as I can read wonderful VNs several times without knowing every plot detail.
  8. I didn't watch the whole thing, but the gist of it seemed to be that guns don't just help execute crimes, but also help stop it. It just seemed to list different massacres that had occurred after the restriction of weapons. First of all, I 95% disagree with this video. But I'm not really surprised since it's obviously funded by pro-gun institutions. It almost seems self-contradictory by condemning violence with the use of firearms, and then glorifying potential violence with firearms. It seems to suggest that all of these killings of innocent people would have been prevented if everyone had guns. I feel that, if anything, more guns would have produced even more deaths. I'm not saying people shouldn't have a right to defend themselves, but I do not agree that giving (untrained) civilians the power to easily take lives. Firearms should only been available to those deemed responsible to handle them. Military, law enforcement and hunters (who have proven themselves responsible) are the only people that should be allowed to own firearms. Self defence is not a valid argument to own a firearm. "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" - Mahatma Ghandi If you want to defend your family, community or even country from violent crime then you should join the military or law enforcement. Enabling any civilian to own a firearm is just allowing irresponsible people to commit the violent crimes that we have been hearing about in America. Guns in America are either marketed as hunting weapons or self defence weapons. The latter are guns made for one purpose and one purpose only. To inflict violence on other human beings. The United Kingdom has a very good system for the control of firearms, which allows people who can prove themselves to be responsible to have access to firearms. As you can imagine, gun crime is extremely low in the UK, even though thousands of people own firearms. And even though gun control is strict, we haven't been massacred, unable to protect ourselves. Even if we were invaded by bloodthirsty killers, it is the job of the military and law enforcement to keep us safe, not civilians.
  9. The problem with popularizing VN in the west does not solely lie in sales figures. After all, they probably won't sell well here until they are properly marketed. It mostly lies with the difference in cultures between the west an japan. Firstly anime/manga in japan is enjoyed by people of all ages and both sexes. However, in the west anime is mostly consumed by children (I'm willing to bet mostly male aswell). Although there is also a large adult audience in the west, it is far from mainstream. As a result, the target audience for VNs would be considerable narrower. And secondly, in the west Japanese culture is portrayed as being strange and weird. I myself have been shocked at some content from VNs, but I am able to accept that it is from a different culture, many westerners would not feel the same way. Because Japanese culture is seen as so strange in the west, the Japanese people have become protective over it. This is one of the main reasons that it is so difficult to legally acquire copies of VNs (ever noticed how Amazon JP doesn't ship overseas?). I think that VNs have yet to become popular in the west as the developers are worried that they will be judged as strange, shocking and not accepted by western culture. It is our job as a community to show that we can accept Japanese culture and that we will praise them for it. This entire post has been based on secondary information and assumptions so feel free to correct anything that you feel contradicts the truth.
  10. Thank you! My main reason for learning japanese is also just so I don't have to wait for translations For my degree I have chosen to study music technology, maybe one day I'll create a soundtrack for a VN!
  11. Just finished it. I haven't read a fan translation so I don't know how it compares, but the translation seemed quite good. I didn't notice any typos but there was a few times where there was incorrect grammar or words were just missing from sentence, but nothing worse than any fan translations. The only real complaint that I would have about it was that it felt too focused on a western audience and seemed devoid of japanese culture. For example they wrote her name with the family name second and they didn't include honorifics.
  12. I guess it's the most appropriate since it's a kinetic novel.
  13. Hopefully they'll bring out an android version too but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  14. Visual Arts (who own Key) have released an english translation of planetarian on the apple app store. This is the first time there has been an official english translation of a Key game so this is pretty big news! Hopefully it will be a success and more official translations will be done of Key's games. It's available on the app store for £2.49 in the UK (not sure how much elsewhere). Go buy it to support official localisation and visual novels in the west!! https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/planetarian-dream-little-star/id474121500?mt=8
  15. Ah I never played the original Dota so I haven't developed any brand loyalty.
  16. What do you think of Dota 2? I got a key when the beta first came out but I found that I much prefer League of Legends.
  17. Depending on the VN, I'll be glad that it's over so that the character doesn't have to endure anymore hardships, or I'll be sad that the story is over and that there isn't any more to read (I guess that's why fandiscs are made). Also I might compare myself to the character and reflect on if I think that I'm the person that I want to be. Reading a VN can be a life changing experience for me, I hope others feel the same way!
  18. Thank you for the recommendation, I'll be sure to check it out! I am enjoying rewrite, but probably not as much as Little Busters!. To me it feels like KEY borrowed a few ideas from the type-moon universe and Kotarou drives me insane with his stupidity sometimes (not as bad as Shiki in Tsukihime though). Chihaya was my favourite route and she has become one of my all time favourite characters! I am excited for the release of the Terra, Moon and Oppai Ending routes now :)/>
  19. I've not had a lot of spare time to study it since I've been a university so I've only managed to get about half way through katakana and hiragana. I have learned a few kanji for basics such as common animals, but I'm trying to get my kana down first. I have been using an iOS app called iStart Kana which has been really useful although I haven't been practicing writing at all. I have a lot of spare time today so I think I'm going to brush up so I can progress some more over the weekend. And I have just been reading the top rated games on VNDB, allow though there have been a few that I have gotten bored while reading so I gave up (Steins;gate and Ever 17).
  20. Hello all! I discovered VNs after kotaku published an article on Katawa Shoujo and now I can't get enough! While searching for torrents on the pirate bay I came across fuwanovel and completely agree with everything that fuwanovel stands for. Read Katawa Shoujo Clannad Fate/stay night Muv-Luv Alternative Little Busters! Tsikihime Tomoyo After ~It's a wonderful life~ Currently Reading Rewrite (reading as it is being translated) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (just when I'm bored on my phone) G-senjou no Maou Favourite VN: Little Busters! Least Favourite: Muv-Luv Alternative (it was a little too dark for me) Favourite Character: Kurugaya Yuiko (because she's sexy) I mostly enjoy drama/romance/comedy VNs. I really enjoy anything by Key as they always make me cry. I've started to learn japanese so I can help translate VNs and I also want to help create a western VN in the future. Thanks for reading :)/>
