Oh is that what you were doing? Ah, well, you can have the terrible stuff I wrote to do this if it helps at all: http://pastebin.com/GmQyfR0h

There's other decryption if the files don't start with 0x9597, but the script uses that so I didn't bother.

Yeah, that's what I meant. But mmk, no worries if you don't.

There were a tonne more than that. Went through all of them though and added all the names. Narration lines are left nameless, since it seemed a bit weird to list them as "Narration." Same download link as before, so try downloading again.

Alright, I went through, and here: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/myonl5e05v0aqxo/SnowSakura.rar

Like I said though, I can't guarantee 100% accuracy that every single string is in there since I didn't fully decompile the script or anything, just did a very quick basic check. I've looked through a bunch of them randomly and can't see any missing, so I hope they're nearly all ok. If you find some messed up or missing though, yeah, sorry. Hopefully someone else can do them all properly.

They do, but it's an annoying format that's pretty difficult to automatically extract without putting a bunch of time in to map out the format, which I don't think I want to do... :x

Kelebek1 got a reaction from Zalor in Japanese Plurals
They're English words now, not Japanese. They originated in Japan, but are in English dictionaries and used in English, just as the majority of our words are from foreign languages and not just middle/old English.

If you want to have a conversation about whether you think those words should be pluralised or not, then you can, but there isn't any set rule for doing it. Just because Japan doesn't use plurals for those, doesn't mean they can't in English, and doesn't mean we can't even completely fuck it up to make it the way we want either. There's tonnes of examples of that, and they're mostly words you don't even think are wrong because you don't know.

I'm already doubting much of a conversation about this anyway, because メ is not pronounced "mey." Japanese does not have diphthongs.

Because that's the point, it has to be interesting. People don't want to read about some very mild bullying. It's like saying, god why do so many people die in action films. Or, why are all these people cheating on their partners in this soap opera. That shit doesn't happen in real life which is exactly why it's interesting.

It's there to be entertaining, and being slightly mean to someone isn't very interesting to read. Of course they have to go off the deep end and push people super far. I don't know why you think it must be real, compared to every single other genre which you presumably know isn't.

When I saw the title first thing I thought was Chuushingura, so it's good to know you've at least heard of it, amazing VN.

Don't forget Sengoku Koihime. It's also by BaseSon, and similar to Koihime (the protag is actually Kazuto's nephew), except in the Sengoku age rather than Sangoku. It's newer (720p) and has no game elements like Koihime Musou did. I liked it, but the ending was pretty disappointing, on par with Koihime Musou's ending.

There's also the Sangoku Hime and Sengoku Hime series from gesen if you want more gameplay, and a new VN called Sengo Muramasa coming out next month. It's set in 1939 and has the same turn-based grand conquest gameplay as the others.

I love the historical genre too, and I'm really wanting something else on the level of Chuushingura. I'll check out these suggestions here too, but I fear nothing will ever top Chuushingura.

Only files missing are 1 and 10, which are broken for some reason. Trying to get those to work will take a lot more effort (if I even can).

VNs are too new a medium, with a too small and niche audience. Right now, every quality VN production is from Japan. Can you name any English VN producer whose games can rival the quality of what Japan produces? I certainly can't. All we have is translated and imported works. As such, the whole audience for this genre reads almost entirely Japanese-styled products as that's all that's really available, so for them to even be interested in the medium to begin with they need to like that style.

All we have for English VN makers come in the form of amateur works, through places like Lemmasoft and maybe even Fuwa now that it has the original VN section, and sometimes through a small kickstarter or patreon. But the people who go and do that are already part of the VN "scene" to be wanting to make one and target this audience, and so very likely already like the Japanese drawing style, and therefore it makes sense that most of them want to keep going on those lines. The amount of people left, ones who are willing to make VNs in English, and then ones who are willing to not attempt a Japanese style and go against what their audience really expects, is soooo few. Really you're incredibly unlikely to find any worthwhile content there. It'll be amateur, it won't have voice acting, and if it does it won't be very good as again it's from amateurs vs people who have actually gone through school and uni studying to be a voice actor and in worlds better technical setups etc, art and writing will be pretty sub-par too from amateurs. That's not to bash them, but there's a bit of a big leap for them to compete with all the quality works from Japan.

So yeah, it's really just a virtue of the size of the market being so niche, and to be in the market you already like the Japanese style. Unless the amount of VN players expands in the west beyond "otaku" and people who just like the Japanese style, and we get some real non-JP professional VNs coming out which do experiment and people like, we won't see very much change. With some publishers now targeting a bigger audience in the form of Steam, maybe it can start to happen. Nekopara seemed to make some waves with people who never played VNs before, but I'm not sure what the retention rate would look like...

I actually really don't like him, he reminds me a lot of Rance. He's basically a fucking idiot, ignores everything around him, entirely focused on himself, then just decides to do something for some stupid reason like "a woman got hit" like Rance. Runs headlong into things (like battle) without caring about anything, and just never thinks he can lose. Not for any legitimate reasons like he had a plan worked out or anything, just because he's a moron like Rance.

So yeah, horrible. I was going to stop playing the trial because of the MC. Don't like him at all, and I'm sure he'll put me off the full game too. If you like Rance (or Rance-lite like Evenicle), then you'll like him, but I hate them, and so I hate this guy. He's nothing like Yuuji at all, put it that way. But that's just my take on it.

Man, get to like round 3 and notice a massive spider on my wall. End up going afk for 4 rounds doing battle with it, and don't even manage to kill it cause it fell off the wall then ran along the edge of my computer and I couldn't get it. Best I could do was trap it on the floor, where it is now. Anyway, team votekick me, it fails thanks to 1 guy, I get kicked out of the game for inactivity, rejoin, and then just destroy. Go 33-10 or something close to it, leading my team and pretty much solo won us the game, get an ace to boot.

I dropped back down to LEM after something like 15 games with 3 wins. Really surprised I didn't drop out of LEM too. Got a couple now though, and that game was against 3 SMFC 2 LEM, so I hope that gave me a nice step up. Feels nice to get 30 kills in a game at this rank, feels like my rank is validated.

EDIT: Lol, played well next game too. Enemy team all raging at me, calling cheats, all reported me. Got my SMFC back.

I've been following it for a long time too. It just had the release date pushed back again the other day, to September. Does feel like it'll never come. Looking at the screenshots and how much content it seemingly has though, you can sort of see why. I just hope that year delay will show in-game.
