Actually, there is, but it's more like the exception confirming the rule. Commie and Cokesakto (guy that translated the Kara no Kyoukai LN) are both working on Mahoutsukai no Yoru. It's not really 'competitive', Commie guys said that Cokesakto's TL of the demo sucked, but he doesn't seem to give a fuck. Overall, I think you're right, but having only one translator doing the whole thing does help to keep the translation consistent and coherent, with someone doing edit/QC after. Crowdsourced translation is a great idea because there are people out there willing to participate but not having the time/resources to do the whole translation, but it does lead to TL inconsistencies and people randomly putting machine-translated and incoherent lines, thus slowing down the whole process. (Of course the Annot system helps dealing with those issues). I do realize however that people doing the TL alone are mainly doing it for the e-peen.

Well, I think Mirai Fukuin was announced several months ago, and this trailer was showed during the type-moon fes in December. But yeah, this is gonna be awesome B)

Welcome there! It's not really the same type as the other VNs you mentioned here but Kara no Shoujo is really awesome and does fit into the 'dark stuff' thing. On the same kind of stuff, but much more horror/gore you have Saya no Uta. As for romance, uh, well... there are people out there that know much more than me about those.

This just reminded me that we never had voiced Type-Moon h-scenes. Which will most likely won't be the case anymore with Tsukihime remake. This is gonna be hilarious. Oh god. Nasu's writing plus the voices? Funniest part of the VN for sure.

Fate/Stay Night might look boring because the premise is amazing but you spend like 5 hours reading 'nothing happens and the MC is a sexist moron' at first. The thing is, there are 3 routes, you must play them in Fate->UBW->Heaven's feel order, and Heaven's Feel>>>UBW>>>Fate... But holy shit it's worth it. It's worth suffering through the goddamn cooking scenes, the countless repetition of the flashback, the terrible H-scenes and Shirou's stupidity, because you'll be rewarded.

Well, said immersion is gonna be tough if you don't have at least a solid knowledge of the basics and essentials of the grammar. Of course reading stuff is the best way to get an understanding of the language, but first you'll have to be able to know at least what the hell is going on in the sentence because it's not intuitive for a foreigner.

This app counts the amount of time you ran the .exe in active window, so it includes the time you spend in the extras too right? It's not like I spend a lot of time watching CGs anyway. Maybe half an hour of browsing the extras, compared with 70 hours of actual game, is not much ^^"

Oh great, yet another thing to know how much time I spend on stuff! So far only Fate/Stay Night included an ingame time count, this'll be useful to know how long a VN actually is instead of very rough estimations.

Hm, honestly japanese grammar is not very complicated, but the way of thinking and constructing sentences is so much different from western language I don't see how you can understand a single sentence without going through grammar. I don't know shit about english grammar too, but that's because the sentence construction and way of thinking is very similar to my native tongue. Just try translating a japanese sentence with a random word-for-word translator, i don't think you will be able to figure out what the hell it means, which wouldn't be the case with, say, french to english.

That's a very nice idea indeed. I'd join in, but I already started on my own path to the moons, so i'd rather follow it. Plus I don't think I have the time to follow 25 kanjis/day. There should be a topic somewhere on this forum that should lead to Aaeru's article about how to learn japanese (with the goal to read VNs in mind) in 1-2 years of time. Alternatively, you can read this, it's /a/'s 'how to learn japanese'. You should be aware that, in both methods, you can do the steps after the kanas in any order and simultaneously. Also, it's not always said clearly in those guides, but to read stuff you'll need tons of vocabulary so you might want to start learning vocab too. There are vocab decks on Anki (cf guides). As for how much time that would take you... Honestly, I think if you have both the time and the motivation, with the help of tools like AGTH (again, look for the ATLAS guide in the forum) you can probably start reading VNs in a year. I'm slacking off a bit yet i got most of the grammar and about 1/5th of the 2000+ kanjis done in 5 months.

Although after a full campaign the PCs got really powerful... And at this point another friend took up the GM spot and had to browse through the Wiki to bring stuff like Primate Murder to calm them down (of course that's because the goal was to make some epic stuff, otherwise the powerleveling couldn't have been so strong) But yeah, creating your own servants is pretty nice!

Welcome here! Enjoy your stay. The way I was introduced to VNs, and the way every VN players I know was actually, is a bit atypic: we all ended up playing Fate/Stay Night and other Type-Moon stuff... Do you have some more?" <TM>"Well, there's this Fate/stay night anime, it's not as good but..." <PS>"Arrgh, the concept was so good but the anime fucked it up, i'm frustrated here..." <TM>*evil grin* "Well, you know, there's this thing called visual novels, well the anime comes from that... it's a bit long but it's much better, it has the whole story..." <PS>"Oh thank, you i'll try this out ... <New Type-Moon cultist>"wow VNs are awesome i'll read more of them!" Pretty smooth way to trick get people to read VNs. Btw, did you watch Kara no Kyoukai yet? Heard about Tsukihime? *grin*

Well probably because she didn't do VN OSTs (actually if she did that would be amazing O_O) But, yes, most of her works are really great. Kara no Kyoukai is definitely my favorite OSTs of all time, but she also did incredible stuff in Madoka, and very good OSTs for Fate/Zero and Sword Art Online (made 50% of the epicness of the fights for the latter!)

They don't. As I said what they have is strictly the same as what's on TV in Japan, except there are no commercials or sponsor stuff, but it's still the exact same so they will be censored. (I'm not even sure the BD version actually exist already when the episode is aired >_>) I guess myanimelist should do that quite well. If you want more firsthand information you can check news website (animenewsnetwork is among the most reliable english one) but it'll only be about fresh news, if you want to check the existence of an OVA/special/whatever for your serie MAL is the way to go. (Oh, btw, I think the Kokoro Connect OVAs went out at least a week ago)

What I mean by 'official' is that they have a contract with japanese companies that makes it legal for them to diffuse the anime they diffuse. Which is why it's a paying service, and also why they get their own version of the video and the script. I'm pretty sure they have the TV version without the ads and stuff. Fansub teams have their own way of getting the TVrips, it's not necessarily faster to get it from CR (although as I said Horriblesubs do that) Iirc Crunchyroll is not accesible to Japanese or something like that... As for American companies, well as you might guess they were not very happy when CR became a legal streaming platform.

@Steve: I'm not a fan of streaming myself, because torrenting is easier and my internet sucks, but Crunchyroll does have 720p and 1080p versions. As for the translation, they're usually fast and good because they get the script beforehand (since they are official and all). Actually, most of the subs you can torrent from team HorribleSubs are rips from Crunchyroll.

On what's on the link both Gintama and Hunter x Hunter are pretty much amazing. I'm a bit surprised CR doesn't have more shows though, there's almost nothing of the current season. There're not much good stuff this season... except for Chihayafuru S2, but you'd have to see S1 first. Oh and on recent animes I'm vouching Jinrui and Shin Sekai Yori. Great stuff. If we get on older stuff, well... I won't go onto that, otherwise i'll leave the hugest wall of text this forum has ever seen. Just thought that since you liked Fate/Zero you should REALLY consider watching the Kara no Kyoukai movies. It's Type-moon based too, same studio (except they did better) and same musician composer (except she did better). Mind developing on what do you mean by that?

Thank you! Well then, I think i'll just read each chapter by following the corresponding heroin route, then finish the game with whoever I like the most for the first time. Then I'll proceed to see all the endings. I shouldn't miss much by doing that.
