While these people are correct, I still don't get why they need to be assholes about it. A newcomer is not going to know the rules or what this site is all about so have some patience people. Of course like always, this thread will be locked soon.

Another Minori title yay. It's a must buy for me, don't care if it's censored or not.
On the other hand very interesting special guests for Anime Expo. (I wonder if thats a hint for later announcements this year).

A shame this will not have a 18+ option as the last series did. I think Steam is starting to influence this company more and more in no longer making eroge. As far as I am concerned, Steam is a cancer to visual novels and their fans.

It's also a pity they haven't posted a whole list of requests into a single list, along with the number of votes; would be fun to skim over and check, whether someone else voted for the same works as I did.
As if all vn's would suddenly be devoid of romance and sex
VN's completely without any sort of romantic developement are a rarity. It may not be the primary focus within the story, but it's always there to a bigger or lesser extent.

I think the quotation marks were fine, normally there are none when the protag is thing to himself vs speaking. That way you know for sure who is speaking etc.

Erogamer reacted to Weis13 in Is the increased popularity of Dating Sims a threat to Visual Novels in the West?
Definitely an interesting topic, but from what I can see the one killing reputations of vns are mostly those half-baked story novels like the infamous "Sakura series" and the abundance of moege with no actual or substantial plot involved. I won't comment if it was a nukige, but as if its bad enough you can't enjoy the story you can't even fap to it for relieve purposes? Dang what else is it good for?

Honestly speaking even nukige's give you a bang for your buck for making stories so ridiculous that you can just laugh it off or say you paid for a good jerk off material.
I'd rather read To-Love-Ru Darkness manga, at least the art from Yabuki Kentaro gives off as a better strip tease and the story is just literally makes fun of themselves being plain ridiculous.

But I believe the VN community is quite strong, as many of us really enjoy VN as a good reading material to broaden our views or good entertainment. Through so many forums, you can see that most old timers are an eccentric bunch that really only likes specific flavors and have stayed that way in a niche community. Don't think we will change our ways anytime soon, and being so we will attract more people of our kind instead of just the trend followers.

Not really a fan of that myself, especially since Apple won't do 18+ Apps/games. Also, saying moege is ruining visual novels is a crock when moege make up over half of them and are what probably sell the most. Granted, I am getting tired of straight up moege myself, but I don't have a problem with that genre and certainly do not think they are ruining the visual novel market. As far as what the OP is saying, I get the difference between dating sims and visual novels. There are a lot of garbage dating sims out there and personally I have no interest in them. I prefer actually story driven visual novels myself.

The question I have is a bit more complex than the title I have, so allow me to give some context. From what I have seen just in my own personal life, otome games in the west have reached a popularity that visual novels are failing to achieve. And while otome games are a sub genre of VNs, their market is completely different from the market of story based VNs. In real life, I have met around 10 girls who I am decently acquainted with who play otome games. When I asked if they played other visual novels, they said no. From the information I gathered from them, they don't care about visual novels as an alternate medium, but only care about dating sims. They like otome games as dating sims. And Otome games are a genre that are growing on the western mobile market. Mystic Messenger has gained a lot of popularity these past couple of months, and with its success is very likely going to bring more otome games into the market. I initially thought this would be a good thing, since if otome games gain more popularity, then maybe those people will expend their interests into visual novels. But from what I have noticed, there is no evidence that suggests that the growth of the Otome game genre is going to benefit visual novels. In fact, I think it might even damage the potential for the visual novel market to expand in the west.
By Otome games, I am mostly referring to the shitty dating sim ones that plague the mobile phone market. I know that there are some good story based ones out there, and sadly those seem to be just as unpopular as most story based visual novels. My real concern, is with how Dating sims are overall doing much better in the west than story based VNs. On the male side of things, shitty games like Sakura spirit and Nekopara I think are doing just as much harm to the reputation of Visual novels in the west.
The popularity of dating sims is perpetuating the false understanding of visual novels as dating sims. VNs ≠ Dating sims! While I don't have anything wrong with dating sims existing as a genre, I do think it is very important to create a distinction between dating sims and VNs. Just like how it is important to create a distinction between Nukige and story-based visual novels. Just because they use similar formatting, does not mean that they are synonymous with each other. But the popularity that otome games are getting, are going to have more people associate VNs as dating sims, and this will make it hard for actual story based VNs to expand their market in the west.
Furthermore, Dating-sim oriented Otome games in particular are marketing themselves to a western audience much better than VNs are imo. Developers for these games realize that this genre thrives most on portable devices. And I think it is that realization that is helping them expand their market so well. VNs on the other hand are still mostly just pc games, especially if you only take the western audience into account (since few psp and vita ports ever make it to the west). Not only are VNs limited to computers, but they are limited to windows. They largely exclude mac users, which is a huge problem in the west considering how many people have macs. Few people will do what I did and buy a notably more expensive ultra-portable windows laptop to enjoy VNs on the go like I did. Most people settle for the cheaper mac-books. And for people who are non-gamers and who have not yet discovered visual novels, it is perfectly reasonable for them to do so.
Maybe I am in the minority out there, but I genuinely see visual novels as a medium of story telling in the light that books and movies are. Visual Novels can tell many types of stories and can encompass any genre of fiction they want. Hell, there are even some amazing genres like denpa that I think are basically exclusive to VNs. In terms of depth and writing quality, there are visual novels out there that offer the same amount of intellectual depth and meaning that some books do. I fell in love with this medium because I like experiencing interesting stories with the accompaniment of music and art. To see a medium I love getting neglected for mere dating sims just really pisses me off. I would really love to hear what other people think.

Edit: After discussing it out a bit, I realize that my problem is not with Otome games per se, but with Dating sims as a whole.

Erogamer reacted to Dergonu in Question about 18+ Grisaia no Meikyuu
Because that "stupid 18+ release" is the way the game was originally created by Frontwing, and a lot of people are doing their best patiently waiting for said original version, but SP keeps delaying it which is quite annoying. That version doesn't have the priority at all; the cut version has been out for months. Meanwhile, fans who want the original game sit there waiting and waiting. I don't know how you could have gotten the idea that this version in any way has priority. In fact, SP openly stated that editing work on the text of the 18+ version, not even the port itself which is what is supposed to take time, had not yet began until after the release of the cut version in a kickstarter update. This is a kick in the gut to a lot of fans who want the real original game, not the cut version.

DMM is having a huge sale on a whole bunch of their titles at the moment. (Over 1800 games are discounted.) The list of games on sale includes several games that have or will get fan patches, (Like Noble Works, Yosuga no Sora, Koiken Otome and what not,) and several new titles released in 2016 is on sale with some pretty nifty discounts. (Like Inochi no Spare, Sakura no Mori † Dreamers and loads more.)
A pretty awesome sale for Japanese readers, but not completely pointless for English only readers.

I used to have some issues buying games on DMM in the past, but it seems they fixed that, as I was able to buy several games there this week without any issues. (Did not need a VPN.) So it seems they accept foreign IPs and foreign credit cards now.
(I bought a few games literally a day before the sale, and those are now on discount. Fuck my life )
Buying games on DMM is super easy, and they also have the easiest DRM system out of all the download sites. (The DRM is directly linked to your DMM account, so as long as you have the game on your account, you just log in once when the DRM pop up appears after installing the game, and you're done.) If you need any help getting through some of the menus, feel free to ask me for some help. (Though, the menus are quite simple to understand, and the wording is so simplistic you can just chuck them into google translate.)

Here a list of the games on sale:

You don't use an allegory like the Seven Deadly Sins and not have seven of them.  Not having played the game (or knowing anything about it), I presume it comes up.  Probably as a twist of some kind.  Say, perhaps the seventh died, the other six are after their revenge, and his death is the motivator behind the whole plot.  Or perhaps the protagonist is the seventh.  It might even turn out that one of the protagonist's allies is the seventh in disguise.  There are ... multiple options.

Gray. A gray world, a gray life, a gray happiness. Indeed, to Kakeru, it was as if the world had turned a dull, impenetrable gray, ever since that day. He had friends Tadashi and Kaori, he had his childhood friend, Yuka, he had everything that 'ought' be there. And yet, he could never escape it, never overcome, never get away from...

But the workings of fate are not so simple. The stain of darkness never so easily cleansed. And indeed, it is those same, immutable cogs that will draw Kakeru away from the simple, ‘peaceful’ life he knew...

To run, simply place the patch2.xp3 into the game folder, and start the game!  As always, remember to have your locale in Japaneses and use only English and Japanese characters in the path to the exe.
Be sure to install the 1.01 patch from Lass before running.

Also, if on windows 10, be sure to have Japanese fonts installed (windows 10 doesn't install them by default).

This right here so much. It can not be overstated how this is the result of two sides not listening to each other. Hillary didn't get overwhelming support for a reason, and you can't simply brush it off as "oh it was all those racist and sexist white americans. Fuck them". It wasn't. It was so much more than just that. It was an entire group of people who are tired of the establishment and threw a brick at it. Trump is literally a rock that was thrown at every single mainstream entity who kept pushing  the "the other side is evil" narrative.  That is what he represents for a ton of people. And unless you address both sides seriously, without preemptively assuming they are Satan incarnate, situations like this will keep happening.
And it is my firm believe that no matter who had won, this election had already done the most damage to the American population of any other recent election. And things go much deeper than the two major political parties.
I'd like to share this one post I read on reddit from a trump supporter, which resonated with a lot of people, including non Trump supporters as well, and which I believe really showcases how many of his supporters felt. Whether you agree with it or not isn't what I ask of you, but what I do hope is that you read it and just consider it for a moment. Maybe the other side is worth listening to and taken seriously into account. Maybe they have real worries which the other side isn't addressing. Maybe their goal isn't to plunder America back into the dark ages. Maybe they are humans too. Only when you do that can you unite your people.  And this goes for both sides.
(I apologize for the formatting but I'm on mobile right now so i can't fix it (or maybe i can but that'd be a load of work!) )

The fact that so many netizens are freaking out over Trump's victory is like looking at bunch of people being butt-hurt and very emotional over something that they can't control ... I think many aren't able to think rational right now because of all of these emotions that are being generated at such a short notice ...
