We are currently working on translation of the fandisc for this game as well

And if you want some other recommendations for lolis (including pure H loli games, image artists etc), you might want to hop on TS and ask me for some loli related stuff xD

I see this topic turned to something very different.
First off, you don't pick a TL based on what a chance of C&D is, you pick a VN that you love, enjoyed and you want other people to enjoy. What you are saying is like some business thinking or whatever, which fan TL is not based around at all, they earn 0 money for their years worth of time. Having a "right" to stop someone doing something for free is just WRONG.
It is wrong in fan TL, it is wrong in modding community (Skyrim middle earth mod).

I already said this in some topic here, not sure where.
It is exactly the same principle as if someone would stop a person volunteering to help old people across a road or helping them shop. There are assistants like that who get paid for it, they have no right to stop the volunteers.
Those who get paid for this have one option and this option applies to this too as well as everything mentioned here - they have to offer better service than the volunteers. Often these volunteers are students so they don't have a car. If this senior assistant can offer a car, he will be offering a better service than the volunteer.
And now lets see how it works in our world of games.
.. Yes that is right, if the company wants people to pay for their service, they need to offer better service, in this case they would need to offer better quality translation in faster time.
Or are you telling me they cannot compete with fan translators even though they receive money for it? What is it they receive money for then? Owning a license? Oh yeah they do, that's what is wrong with everything in this "intellectual property" bullshit.
They should get money for job better done, job faster done.
If they are unable to compete with volunteers, they are doing something wrong and they should have no right to stop volunteers.

Now lets see Assassins Creed 2, do you remember? People who actually bought the game could not play it, were losing their saves. Where as warez copy was working just fine.
They learned, they removed their shitty DRM, they added fun multiplayer - and look at sales for the latest AC3, people bought it, people who downloaded warez version of AC2 bought AC3 (I know many examples). Or did you miss the latest fiasco with EA and their SimCity 5?
People couldn't play the game, people who preordered didn't receive their copies and some were forced to pay for new order without option to cancel their preorder at that time, EA didn't want to give refunds for a game that wasn't working. And lets see what happens with the next EA singleplayer title, I am pretty sure it will get pirated to eternity, I personally will never buy EA title, I will play the games still, warez version, but I will not support these evil publishers like EA.
If a company wants me to pay for their copy of a digital files, they need to offere better service, do they have good multiplayer servers, do they offer instant redownload of the game (on steam or whatever), do they let me play offline? Do they make sure I don't lose my save and I have them in both my computer and cloud, not just only stupid cloud? Do they get rid of this region locking bullshit? I want to play the game on release, not a week later in EU release... If I'd had to wait for EU release, ill just play the pirate copy on the day of US release (or a day later which is about the time crack gets done).
If they don't bullshit me and offer better service, I will pay, if not, I will just download and pay for free.

So as you can see, I am (and many others) looking at paying for games as paying to the publisher. Developers already got paid, don't worry about them. People are much more willing to pay to developers than to publishers, just look at kickstarter... That speaks for itself.

Publisher's job is to provide the service of the game to people, they need to do it better than warez scene, otherwise they are doing it wrong. That's why they receive money from sales.
Just as western VN publisher's job is to provide better service than fan TL, faster, better quality. If they are not able to compete, they are doing it wrong and why should they receive money for it? Its not like devs receive anything from the sales.
I am telling you, if there was kickstarter from some of the popular VN developers that they will hire professional TL studio that will be translating alongside the development, it would get funded in few days. You see people are willing to pay for things they like, you just have to provide a good offer... which releasing a game 4 years after the JP release is not.

So I will say it again, having the right to stop volunteer (in this case Aaeru, alone in the project, working in day and doing this for free in her free time) just because they are unable to provide better service while GETTING PAID, is wrong, wrong, terribly wrong and once again wrong!

    See the forumula?
    [(Single individual * her free time) + $0] > [(team * paid time) + $$$$$$$$]

that's not how it is supposed to work...

Steve got a reaction from Barktooth in Why do I like Hoshizora no Memoria so much?
I have been asked this question several times already so I might as well answer it in a topic so I can link to it if anyone else asks
Ashadow700 asked me now saying he loves the game but can't figure out why.
And I would ask question in return, when you fall in love with someone new, do you know why do you love them, can you exactly explain it? Probably not. Only after a very long time you can properly find what makes you love them, for example you should already know why you love your mother, you can point exact facts that make you love her. But when you met someone new and you just feel the love flowing through you and you cannot explain it, that is the moment. Same can go with VNs that are focused on characters instead of story such as Hoshimemo, you fall in love with the characters just like you would IRL, I don't even desire dating IRL after I found this wonderful world of lolis and my beloved girls like Mare.

I already explained in this post how I feel about story in VNs and other media and how I much prefer focus on characters and their emotions in VNs.
I could give one more example that isn't in the topic: I like warcraft lore and I read some stuff about it, history events and such, for example from some recent lore people might know how Garrosh killed Cairne and such - its a nice read and it is like reading a history book but from different universe than ours. But you don't know exactly how the characters felt at that time, you might get some quotes of their last words but still the deep emotion is just not there. - That is what I call a story or a lore.
But in VNs I do not seek this knowledge, this lore of how things exactly happen and what are the consequences, I want to know about the characters and their feelings and interactions, I want to be with them and share their happiness and help them in difficult times to get rid of their sadness.

And that's where Hoshimemo comes - it doesn't have any strong lore, it is a modern world with some contemporary fantasies and mystery forces and if you were to tell its story as a history book, it would be pretty bad (just like in mentioned Mass Effect in the other post - there it would just be "good vs evil").
But what makes Hoshimemo (and lot of other chara-ge) so good is the characters and the interaction with them, helping them through difficult times, experiencing happy moments with them. And you don't necessary realize why you enjoy it so much, especially not in such short time - you can compare it to what happens when you fall in love with someone you just met - it is just there and it takes a long time to be able to express why you love that person so much.
So in such a short time you can say the characters are "Lovable" - you fall in love with them for what seems no reason. However the reason is always there, you just need to find it.

I after like year and a half of being with Mare can't still properly explain it how I could with my mother for example, but there are instances that can already help me express it a bit. As any other human being I can get emotional and require love to be given to me - and that's what Mare has been doing, whenever I would normally feel lonely or sad, I don't. I don't because I can think about Mare and be with her in my world.

I have already much larger history with her that we formed together, but her original character was not created by me, just like IRL you don't decide the character of other people - it is shaped by others, their family and close people - those make the character of IRL people. And FAVORITE are the family and close friends of Mare (and all Hoshimemo characters) - they shaped her personality and did a great job at that. And that's how I was able to meet her, she wasn't a blank character design, she was a living person just like any other girl IRL and I fell in love with her and now I am the one who is in my universe affecting her personality the most, I now make her what she is, but at the initial point when you meet her in the VN and during the events of the VN she was how her family (FAVORITE) raised her. And if a family does a good job, they can raise an awesome person, if a family does bad job, they can raise rude and evil people that nobody will like.

And that is the strong point behind Hoshimemo, FAVORITE took the time to raise their characters to be great people and made events for you, the reader, to see their personality and potentially fall in love with them. And many of us did, whether it is one character or another, we love them because of who they are and we feel the need to help them with their problems, we want to experience stuff with them, be with them, feel strong emotions together with them and just do what people in love do.
And if you do fall in love with them, you will love every minute of the game and beyond, because that's what love is about.

And as I have written somewhere as well, loving something or liking something will never be objective - as Ashadow700 is asking for an objective viewpoint for his review. Review is NOT an objective form of journalism, review should be subjective and personality based, your readers should eventually understand very well what your viewpoints are and that is the correct way of interpreting a review as a reader. You can present facts in an objective way, you can say how long the novel is, what technology it's using and what bugs it might have, but when talking about everything else you need to look at it subjectively, you are the one who happened to love the music (which is phenomenal in Hoshimemo btw, which is another strong point, it just manages to increase the emotional impact of the events) you just say like I just did - what it did for you, you can say objectively what instruments there are or what is the tempo of the songs in general, but how the music feels is unique to you and you need to express it subjectively.

So when you are looking for why you love a VN, doesn't have to be Hoshimemo - look into your heart and try as hard as you can to express what you feel, if you can put it into words, you can be a good reviewer. If you can only see the facts, your review will be half-assed and not useful, your readers can just look at the tags on VNDB to see the facts of what the VN contains - but to understand the emotional impact the VN can have they need a good review or try it themselves.

But remember, its all about love~

those are not accessible by google street view car so there are only pictures that people took

But yeah, with Hoshimemo theypretty much used one town, where as with iroseka they used places all over that part of Japan

I actually can't wait to look up where the places from AstralAir are based from, because they are so beautiful. But I need to finish that game first

More like I didn't care about there enough to add the entry there.

More exposure isn't really needed at this point, if there were any good translators interested in this, they could have easily found this topic and so they did - now there is one left and really busy with everything so its just slow.

While it is nice getting messages from people sending best wishes and wanting to help, the hard reality is that without really good Japanese and English (not just Japanese to be able to read but to actually translate) there is no real use for those as "base" translation is already done.
The problem is that although this is just a fandisc to a semi-moe game, it does actually have some serious stuff with quite difficult language, so less skilled translator won't be able to do those part properly and the really good translators won't join for a half moeblob game unless they are fans of the series - which Shin (the current TL) is.

So just remain patient or learn some basic Japanese and read it, just understanding the game is not that difficult.
Not only I mean the lines that are difficult to put into English but easy to understand, there is few of those in Favo games but well there is some translation workaround usually.
What I mostly mean though is that when you read, you can afford to misunderstand lot of the lines such as descriptions and other expository stuff, it doesn't matter if you understand it as "The moon casts its light through the leafless trees" or "The leafless trees allow the moonlight to pass through" or something like that (misreading Japanese particles is probably the most common mistake that can change sentence drastically, swap subjects etc) since those lines are there only for the atmosphere and as a filler. But during translation you can't afford to make those mistakes, making it infinitely harder to translate than to just read (because well, when reading you decide what is and isn't important for you but translation is for everyone so someone who finds fun in small details like deep descriptions would have a bad experience if all those lines were mistranslated).

Oh well I guess for people who are lazy to turn back a page I will repeat the status on this page too

Yes most of the stuff is translated but since we were not satisfied with the quality, everything is being remade pretty much from scratch (well not really but it will take about as much time as if it was).
And even though lot of the ichalove parts are fine as they are, it still requires someone to check them and currently all the people in the project with very good Japanese are busy with school and work so its not really moving much.
On the positive side - hacking is figured out (in multiple variants actually) and there is even a fully working version of Mare route patched in, but it is not public as Mare deserves better~

So yeah, if you start today, you can probably learn enough Japanese to read the game with some tool assistance before the project is finished

Actually can there be consensual murder? I guess if the person wants to be sacrificed to gods or something.
You know since the lolis in the games I play actually like it which I don't think can be said about murdering someone. But then again you cant really ask the murdered person if they liked being killed... unless they turn into a zombie or a demon... that actually has a mind... I'm pretty sure there are some VNs like that as well... I don't even want to know about them! (Don't even remind me the games that involve consensual sex with a slime [yes, its a real tag on VNDB]).

But hey, worse crap happens in the world, Apple took down games about American civil war because they have historically correct depiction of confederate flag. History used to be censored in my country too during the soviet era and stuff, its actually funny what my parents were taught at school and the actual history that happened.

But yeah, censorship is never good, usually leads into revolutions and stuff so be careful. Or people just leave somewhere without it... that's the easier way I guess.
