  1. I'll just qoute what I said in youre last thread about Fuwareviews:

I personally heavily dislike those, as they're often inaccurate and misleading, and imo take away the value of the review itself. A number simply can not summarize an experience. People who actually read the review don't need a number to increase their understanding of the reviewer's opinion, so all it does is give the lazy a usually inaccurate image of the reviewer's opinion. Your own Little Buster's review is probably the best example, the people who were angry at it were only angry at the numerical score and not what you actually wrote, which was p fine. If I were to write a review, I'd like to have the option to not mislead the reader and oversimplify my experience.

And at the end of my Monster Girl Quest review:

This is where a reviewer usually either puts a misleading number that's supposed to show how he or she evaluates the game, or decides for you if the VN in question is worth your time or not. However, in my honest opinion that kind of takes away the value of the review itself: I've given you what I think are this VN's main strengths and weaknesses, it's for you to decide whether the pros outweigh the cons.

In all honesty it should either be removed, which admittedly is a bit extreme but better than having them be mandatory, or at least make it be the reviewer's choice.

  2. I'm frankly surprised @bigfatround0 hasn't been banned at least temporarily by this point, he literally admitted to screwing around:

Nah, honestly I was just fucking around. I didn't expect my comment to take off and start some minor drama.

If there are any legit complaints about moderation, it's how lenient they can be with his kind, ironically enough :sachi:

  3. Well, at least we won this RNG fiesta this time. RIP team Kaguya

Also, I feel like it was a little too long this time, I found it very hard to read every single exchange. I'd recommend you add more group fights, rather than individual or fights with only a few members, in order to shorten it. But nice writing as always~

  4. So, the second vid is out:

While I do understand that both the past video and this one don't exactly bring new discoveries to how you should date, I think it highlighting the important parts of what you should and should not do to get a real grill is very enlightening, and self assuring. I personally think I'm going to take Huniepop, and games like it, more seriously after watching this. I never considered giving gifts to be a big deal for example (I thought it was just a cheap way to get a grill), but now I understand both how important it is and how to do it right.

Whether you look at it the same way or not, I would like to ask if you think the same can be said about the popular VNs in this community. The kinds Matt brings up as an example are mostly dating sims, which aren't really the same as your average Japanese VN. The latter tend to have more story and less mechanics, it's not as simple as getting to sleep with a girl. The methods used in things like KEY VNs in particular feel a little... Extreme and unrealistic. It's been a few years since I last read Clannad so I don't remember it too well, but I recall thinking "who dafak does this irl, these silly fapanese VNs"  I suppose it would require me to read VNs in a whole new light in order to come to a satisfactory conclusion, taking them a lot more seriously than I usually do. But what do ya'll think? : >

  5. I shall not lose hope in the ability of the creators of this VN. If they truly understand the greatness of Rewrite, they'll do their best to translate its greatness into a good anime. So have hope my friends! ... Have... Hope...

    Spoiler

    I just can't stand the idea of my fav VN of all time being made into a shit anime ;-;

  6. Ahhh, the beauty of self awareness. Huniepop for me is a great example of a Western VN doing something Westerners are actually good at (in particular Americans): Being assholes. Combined with the secret Kawaii magic of Japan it makes a hilarious and oddly fitting combination that is Huniepop. I probably won't play this game, but I'll definitely watch a play through or two for za lulz

  7. For me, considering reacantly watched stuff, I was rewatching soul eater and after a particularly awesome episode, I was so booming with energy that I had to do something. The world and characters in Soul Eater are just so beautiful and well crafted that I wanted to make my own, so I spent the next 3 hours making a short fan-fictionish thing. It was the first I've written in over a year, so I'd definitely consider it to be a moment of exceptional "elevation " as the guy puts it :P

  8. @Tiagofvarela, Our first interaction that stands out in my memory was when we rallied our forces to defeat the loli overlord in the first Fuwa banner competition. I believe that thread was later deleted because of some drama, but it was totes worth it. Other than that I recall you agreeing to record a poem for me, which is still there for the world to see on my channel. That was cool of you. I also remember taking a rather large amount of gifs from you, which proved very useful in editing my videos. One particular time where we didn't get along in was in one of Aniki's games, in which you refused to ally with me :c

I can probably recount more such events, as my memory is rather good with recalling seemingly meaningless conversations, but that should suffice to help you remember a little bit. You've recently died in activity way more than me, so I hope you do more stuff like this so I can enjoy exchanging more silly words with you. Keep it kewl and screw Da haters, you're fine how you are ;)

Well, to be fair Bats is pretty spot on with Little Busters. A lot of people say "slice of life is a legitimate genre" to explain away the long scenes of nothingness, and sure slice of life IS a legitimate genre. Except Little Busters isn't a slice of life story, rather it has a plot and a story with segments of slice of life within that story. Those segments were so long, and so little actually happened, they detracted heavily from the story, something which wouldn't happen if the entire thing was slice of life.

And this leads straight into the main problem with Little Busters - it's written poorly. There are some serious problems with the Little Busters story. Everywhere. In most routes. And Bats goes into a fair few of those. And because a visual novel is a novel first and foremost (that is, the main purpose of the piece of software is to tell a story) those problems significantly detract from the experience.

A lot of Key fans will rush to the defence of LB saying stuff like 'I enjoyed it', 'that was harsh' whatever else, blah blah. None of this addresses the issue that the VN has problems and Bats' score and review is a fair one. Despite what Key fans say (heh)

    So Nyah :P

...showing a strong bias against a genre because it goes against your tastes... are a no-no.

Was this law intact when you reviewed Little Busters? :makina: /jk

And while most of your requirements are understandable, I do have to ask if you consider having a numerical score as part of the Divine Fuwa Style that must be followed. I personally heavily dislike those, as they're often inaccurate and misleading, and imo take away the value of the review itself. A number simply can not summarize an experience. 11. Really nice, but I find it very odd that you started by telling everyone how to VN, before actually getting them interested in VNs. I think starting with giving a good example of a VN, with explaining what makes VNs superior to other platforms (VNs master race!) which you did do at the start makes more sense. Not sure if you have time to edit it at this point or if you've already gone lol, but good luck never the less

  12. So game theory finally released its episode on dating sims (2 years late), and I was expecting something along the lines of "How unrealistic dating sims are", but I'm pleasantly surprised by this theory that claims dating sims actually help in a relationship. While I know there's some lines to be drawn between dating sims and VNs, he uses quite a few weeby dating sims as examples like huniepop, even some that are considered VNs like uh... Hatoful Boyfriend. I also never knew Love Hina was a VN/dating sim, so that's pretty interesting

So at this point I assume we VN elites are chick magnets now? Has my life been a lie?!

  13. Sounds cool, sign me up with Down (or should I say, sign me down? #BestPun2016). While I don't have much of an inclination towards a particular GM, Down is good at (Award winning pun incoming) bringing down fun, so I'll be more than happy to aide him in banning members and threads under his dictatorship :sachi:

I mean, if you're gonna do that you might as well change the whole title. It's like explaining a joke: it ruins it.

There's a reason why we have such a thing as the Coliseum of Chatter: so that you expect shitposting when you see a thread there.

But that's the thing, you don't see that it's in the Coliseum of Chatter until after you click it, since we're talking about the sidebar here. An alternative solution would be to mention what part of the forum it's in somewhere on the sidebar

  15. This is something I've seen being implemented on a few reddits and I think it's worked quite well: Mods should add "Misleading" to the start of a misleading thread. Like this:

    Spoiler

    Jrq4XIy.png

While that example shows "quality shitpost" (lol), you get the idea. I think it's a fair solution for both sides, people don't like being tricked by a misleading title, and people also dislike no one reading their threads at all.
