That's not entire accurate. What gamers usually do is rely more on straifing to hit the target rather than actually looking at it. So you usually look in the general direction of the target and strife left of right for accuracy.

You could get a mouse+keyboard adapter for consoles like XIM4 and the like if you'd rather avoid the horror that is using a controller for FPS games. It is expensive, however.

You can aim pretty well without auto-aim, and i too am a PC elitist.

It's mostly muscle reflex, the more you play, the more you'll get skills

Many console fps still have precision aim problem. I remember when I played Black on ps2, great game but it wasn't accurate like pc fps games. In many older console fps games the best thing to do is just wave your weapon around your target and keep the fire button held down. Eventually you will get a kill. But this was really frustrating to me because I wanted to be more accurate than I that, I wanted the feel of a mouse aiming controls.
Once auto aim came into fruition things got easier and more fun. You didn't have to be precise, the game would help you target your enemy and I think that was a good idea.
The new Doom does an excellent job with accuracy aiming. I don't know how they did it but it feel really good. It's not as good as keyboard and mouse but it comes damn close to it.

Some of the best VNs out there were made between 2004-2009, though... and both 2011 and 2014 produced a good number of excellent VNs.  The problem with older VNs is that the visual styles and game interfaces have aged horribly in the interim, lol.

Aw, come on!  Snow is the best fanfic mashup of Kanon and Air ever made.  It also spawned a surprisingly decent nukige centered on Meiko.
I also liked Kokoro Navi.  Giniro was excellent, and so was Memories Off (1999).

No kidding.  The 2000-2001 years had some amazing stuff:  Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tooya, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Suika, Giniro, Triangle Hearts 3, Jisatsu no Tame no 101 no Houhou, Canvas...
But 2004-2009?  That's the Golden Years; making that comparison isn't exactly fair.  Fate Stay/Night, Clannad, Higurashi and Umineko, Dies Irae, Symphonic Rain, Planetarian, Muv-Luv Alternative, Aselia, Rui wa Tomo wo Yobu, Chocolat and Parfait, Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no, Majiprui and Akiiro Renka and Ashita no Kimi to Au Tame ni, DraKoi, Princess Witches... and that's just what I see on my shelves from here.

Some older VNs are just awesome...  but most suck.  If you replace the music, Tsukihime is awesome.  It is good even if you don't, but it reminds me of why I got into VNs, since Tsukihime was my first (within nine months I was playing in Japanese, lol).

I love the PC-98 aesthetic. It is rather far from realistic, but it's much more vibrant and expressive than the current bog-standard "everything is shiny!" art style that pervades much of the medium. YU-NO is one of my favorite VNs (although sadly I do not own a copy) thanks to, in no small part, its art style.

Ooooh, I love old things too, and new things looking all retro.
I love playing RPGs, and I find it so charming when they look like the original Final Fantasy or original Dragon Quest! That eventually made me go deeper in the abyss looking for RPG Maker games, since some of those indie producers do an awesome job recreating that old magic!
Fukai ni Nemuru Oujo no Abaddon is an example. The entire game, from graphics to soundtrack, looks like something made for Famicon, but it was released in 2014! It really is awesome if you like horror stuff!

Some games from 2000-2004 can be pretty interesting for me like:
    Mist ~second edition~
    Himawari (not the english one)
    Reminiscence Blue
    Kokoro Navi
    Virgin Snow
and well I played Snow but that one is trash.
+ some other stuff I don't remember, but 2000 is pretty much the limit for me.

I have always had an affinity for old things. When I see those old VN promo vids that look like they were created in PowerPoint, it excites me. Many years ago, I visited Japan and searched around for a copy of ONE ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~ on Windows 95. The list goes on.
I am sure there is a hipster mentality to it. Also, I guess old things can be rare, and people like rare things. When the box is yellow from old age, that is a good sign to me. They are relics, and owning them is like a sign of respect.
I want to see if anyone else has a thing for old games? Are there any old hidden gems you know of (older than Kanon let's say)? Any blogs or channels that cover older VNs? Just getting some of them to run is a challenge, but there is charm in that, too.
Opinions, stories, happy to read about all of them. Thank you !

Hilarious as it is to look at it, I sincerely recommend you have a look at your post in another Fuwanovel Theme, because all text is white, the same colour as the background, making it so there's no text at all unless I highlight it or change themes.

Hi everyone! I want to let you know that Unhack 2 is finally out:
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/444170
Unhack 2 turned out to be the most challenging project I have ever produced. I ran into production issues that caused delay after delay. Several of them were my fault, but I learned a lot from them and will carry these lessons forward. The game has mixed reviews so far, so we will see if it turns out to be well or poorly received.
    Thank you !

Even in this YouTube generation, I enjoy reading gaming magazines like GameInformer, Retro Gamer, Edge etc. Today, I just want to rave about what my dream VN magazine would be.

I love old school things. Sometimes I post about stuff from ONE ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~, Sakura Taisen and the like, so I would love to follow a VN magazine that focuses on titles from the 80s and 90s.
Maybe every issue highlights one game in particular and explores behind the scenes details. The pages will be designed professionally for that quality finish. Man, the things I would do to read an issue on Ever17, ONE, Sakura Taisen, Utawarerumono, 999 (not that old but hey) and so on.

I cannot start that type of series because game development takes up most of my time, and also:
    1) Old school VNs are too niche perhaps.
    2) Not enough of an audience compared to video materials.
Does anyone else sub to magazines? I for one hope they never die out. What would your dream VN magazine be like? Even if no one starts a series, we can at least dream about it.
I am secretly hoping someone does do it. Can't imagine how it can survive honestly except out of passion, but I would show my support on Patreon for example if the presentation is up to par.
Thanks for hearing me out .

Hi everyone . Thank you again for letting me post my blog entry here:

This time I talk about the choice systems I have used in previous games, and the method I plan to adopt in The Last Birdling. Hope you like it!

A few points I would be happy to hear thoughts on:

    1) If a choice has no impact on the ending, is it better for the game to be linear? I played Akiba's Trip recently, and I imagine a lot of those choices had no effect on the ending, but some of them were hilarious so they never bothered me. See, I always had this theory. If it has "attitude", you can get away with almost anything.

    2) Is it dishonest to boast about x number of endings if most of them are just instant gameovers? This doesn't offend me, but when it is being done all the time, it results in a "yeah let me guess" type of reaction.

    3) For those who have played it, how awful did you think Mass Effect 3's ending was? In terms of player agency, maybe it is a travesty compared to older titles like Star Wars KOTOR. That said, back in the days, cutscenes were less expensive to produce (well I wouldn't know a thing about that). Is it really possible to produce multiple vastly different endings when you know most players will miss a bunch of that content?

    4) More branches means longer game length. Does it also risk potential fluff routes and less editing time (spellcheck, skim read once and call it a job done)?

    5) What is the point of multiple paths if there is a true ending in the end? Though I want to be edgy and say it's pointless, I actually like true endings. Not those everything is magically okay ones, but it's good to have something that tells you yes, this is indeed the end.

    6) Does it bug you when choices seem nonsensical, and you are forced to look up guides?

    7) I wonder why visual novels often have multiple paths, but it's much less common with traditional novels? Of course, we have the choose your own adventure books. Maybe having to turn to a particular page is just a pain.
    Thank you!
