Episodic, brand new IP, almost zero coverage anywhere, no controversy. No wonder it didnt sell well. They should have made up a fake 18+ patch to piss everyone off to gain coverage.

Essentially. Steam is unforgiving. If a recent release doesn't stick out and has zero hype, it'll be buried under a mountain of crap and won't have another chance at success outside of a major sale on the front page. They all seem to strive for Sakura and Nekopara level sales figures, but those are anamolies. Popular YouTubers with millions of subscribers covered those titles, giving them more exposure than anything else ever could. I'm not saying disallowing YT footage is why they're failing, but who knows, maybe a major e-celeb would've given them coverage if they weren't risking a DMCA.

The elitist circlejerk who likes to say this can't even read German. And we all know that you can only appreciate a work of literature when you read it in its original language.
Don't trust people who read English translations!

Something, something, something, inadequate reading comprehension. Something, something, something, surface level.

  3. Individual kanji study is generally a complete waste of time unless you're leaning towards production. What you should be doing is simply learning readings through vocabulary. Download Core 2k/6k/10k and do however many new cards a day you have the capacity for. At 40 new cards a day, you'll be done with 6k in 5 months or so, which is around 1700 kanji with multiple readings. Additionally, using the ITHVNR + Firefox and Rikaisama text-hooking method, you can import unknown kanji and vocab into Anki with a single key press. It's also a method which does not spoonfeed you with furigana, parsing and (optional) machine translations.

  4. By the sound of it, you already know basic grammar. There should be nothing stopping you from using the methods mentioned above to read basic untranslated VNs. It's a very useful way of expanding your vocabulary and getting further grammar practice. One of the best, actually. I don't recommend reading anything you'll want to enjoy one day with better comprehension, though. Additionally, you should fire up Anki and work your way through the Core 2k/6k deck alongside whatever you decide to read. Japanese is not the insurmountable mountain it seems to be.

Hello there ^_^. So it looks like VNs that include boobs, sex or even just yuri tend to sell way better than those without. A lot of gamers outside the community hate visual novels, though. "Ugh, another bewbs game", "Stahp" and whatever else.

I remember a few years ago, Mass Effect 1 ran into a bit of controversy with their sex scenes. Compared to VNs, they were as tame as could be, but still, I think gamers in general defended Mass Effect. Gamers want the public to know we are mature enough to handle these topics. The Mass Effect issue even went on Fox News:

I doubt many gamers would have sided with the psychology specialist in that segment. How come sex in a western title is viewed so differently from visual novels? Is it because some VNs have kinky sex? Or is it the fact that a lot of anime girls look underaged? Many of the answers will seem obvious, but I am still fine with hearing about them and maybe start a discussion from here.

Sorry to finish with a downer, but let's keep the chat on topic. I have been seeing posts where people are using threads to promote their game/story/art/music etc. Mentioning projects in passing is okay, but it is beyond obvious when the intention is to plug. People can post what they like, but in some forum, that type of behavior would result in warnings, and I want to bring it up ahead of time.

    Thanks ^_^!

Visual novels are pornographic in nature, whereas video games are not. The tools in that video were treating ME as the former. Western visual novels have just as much lewd and erotic content as eastern ones, and the reason why VNs with adult content outsell those without is that the vast majority of the medium's demographic read VNs solely to get off. This is the case in all cultures.

What the mainstream media thinks of "lewd" content is irrelevant to this medium as it doesn't affect anything other than censored releases on mainstream platforms, which is sensible to say the least.

  6. I haven't experienced any long loading times. The only technical issue I've had was microstutter related to exclusive fullscreen and Vsync. Otherwise, it's running at a constant 60 fps on Ultra with ReShade at 1080p. I also play the game with an Xbox One controller from the couch, so the interface and controls are perfectly fine.

Visually, it's not too bad. The lighting and weather system is nice, and the LOD has been greatly improved. Not even DynDOLOD or any uGridsToLoad tweaks could achieve this LOD object density in their previous games. Not to mention any such modification resulted in instability. Gameplay wise, it's better than the previous two games in essentially every way. The building mechanics leave a lot to be desired, though. So far, I've only seen two types of basic building materials for structures. Maybe it's possible to unlock more via perks or quests, but if not, I don't think this will take off until the modding scene starts making more objects and materials. Same goes for the weapon and armor modding systems.

Seems to be pretty stable and the loading times will be fixed with a few patch, I'm worried about the interface and the controls in general, is like playing skyrim all over again with those shitty menus for consoles

Isn't that like the first thing they made a mod for? :P

Honestly the only thing I'm disappointed about in Fallout 4 is that it uses pretty much all the same music as Fallout 3, and I liked New Vegas' selection way more :c

I listened to the classical radio station for a few hours until it started looping, and have since stopped using the radio. The original ambient soundtrack is far more comfortable to listen to. Also much more varied than the radio stations.

Also this is amazing http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/103/ I think I actually going to use it.

The cutscenes are going to be awkward with the main character flapping his/her lips as a mute.

just wait until someone releases a mod that makes fix the camera first person while you are in dialogue mode :P  to be honest I got tired of hearing him talking after a while (I don't like to play female char on this types of games) and the voice acting is so so imo, I would leave it if it was the voice of lets say shepard in mass effect (not that it would fit in the game xD )

I think the dialog wheel also needs to be overhauled for it to work. There will still be mute pauses between choice and NPC reaction. It'll definitely happen somewhere down the line, though. Probably a necessity for quest mods.

I decided to turn the gas station into my own, iron fisted economy. Here's the album.

So far, I have 5 People working their asses off, for the greater goal of my global domination.

That looks pretty comfy. I couldn't stand the uneven terrain in Sanctuary, so I made an FF7-style Midgar platform connected by fairly large towers. Haven't gathered enough resources to actually build the intended town on the platform, though.

  7. Perhaps you should move on forward instead of reading only cheap moege :makina:

We need to start a movement and lure these plebeians away from moege and into more serious and realistic vns.

While not necessarily "serious and realistic vns," this has always somewhat unironically been my stance on the medium and the western community as a whole.  While I give no shits about what people enjoy, I'm always hoping the community will miraculously recover from terminal moe waifu cancer. The circles where I actually discuss VNs are getting increasingly difficult to bear.

  9. I've always enjoyed anthology shows, but Tales from the Darkside is my least favorite. Nothing really stood out in any way, and I can only recall a handful of episodes. The 90's Outer Limits, Tales from the Crypt, Masters of Horror and the original Twillight Zone are my favorites.

It's a shame that the uncensored Outer Limits beyond season 1 is impossible to find. The DVD releases were butchered, and Hulu has those versions. Still enjoyable, though.

  10. The graphics are fine. Force some ambient occlusion and the lighting will look less flat. Give the modding community a few years and it'll be the best looking game around, just like Skyrim was for years. The leaked gameplay footage I've seen looks excellent. Definitely a huge step up from FO3 and NV. Looking forward to seeing how creative you can get with base building. If there are no limitations, I can see myself having a skyscraper by the time I'm through with the game.

  11. Recently watched Snowpiercer on Netflix, and I have to say, it's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. The ending in particular.

"Hey, let's blow up the train! It's getting marginally warmer out there, so it's fine to kill literally every person on the train in a crash, leaving only a 17 year old girl and a 10 year old boy with zero survival skills and no food. Let's also put a polar bear right outside of the train to show you that life does exist! It's not like that bear would charge at them and fucking chew on their spines the moment he saw them, considering he's likely starved at that point.

Why not take the train for a few more cycles, waiting for the temperature to rise even further, then plan to derail the train somewhere that's not in the middle of nowhere. Also, how about preparing a room for more than two fucking people to survive in?

Going full retard seems to be common in Hollywood.

  12. Ayakashibito

    - Soushichi's bicycle rides to an amnesic Suzu.

    - Katou Kotarou being a badass, literally punching a car in half, taking on a battallion of soldiers with his fists, and eliminating the entire Dominion on his own, including Kuki. How much simpler each of the routes would be if he was actually involved in them.

    - The scene in Tonya's route where Shuugen kills off most of the Russian soldiers on his own, putting the burden on his shoulders.

    - The entirety of Touko's route, with a possessed Soushichi.

    - The true route in general.

It'd be a shorter list if I pointed out things I didn't like about Ayakashibito, and they're all related to awful h-scenes that at times, literally come out of the blue and have absolutely no bearing on anything.

     Hanachirasu

    - First premature ending, where Akane goes to Yumi's rescue, getting outright destroyed by Igarasu.

    - Yasaka pulling a gun on Akane.

    - Shirobee in general.

    - Igarasu decapitating Shou.

Not a fan of the non-joke endings, as I saw the major plot twist coming the moment Shou was introduced.

    Saya no Uta

    - Saya killing Oumi and eating her organs with Fuminori.

    - Saya performing her procedure on Fuminori's neighbor, making him kill his family.

    - Fuminori killing himself with an axe to the face, and Saya being blown to pieces by Ryouko.

    - Kouji's nightmares and hallucinations after it's all over.

     Kikokugai: The Cyber Slayer

    - Taoluo's introduction. Throughout the scene, he ignores Zhang entirely, only making eye contact with Ma Jie. Vow of Sword starts playing as he kneels down and caresses her face, when suddenly, the power goes out. Zhang's high-tech defenses are offline. Taoluo's gynoid walks in with his sword, as Zhang panics. Zhang considers the only logical explanation, giving us exposition regarding Neijia kung fu, and Taoluo being the last surving practitioner to truly master it.

    - Taoluo humiliating Zhu by trivializing her combat ability, consistently taunting her throughout the fight, giving himself a handicap by letting her 5 moves to kill him. With Zhu's pride completely destroyed, he cuts off her arm and finishes her off with a Lightning Palm with little effort, sending her corpse crashing into the wall.

    - Taoluo asking Xie Yida if he can put together a prosthetic limb with the equipment in his lab, then cutting off his leg as he confirms.

    - The warehouse scene with the Russian mafia, and Taoluo betraying and killing Ran.

    - Taoluo chasing Ng across the sky lanes, jumping from vehicle to vehicle to reach him, and the ensuing battle with Petrushka, ending with the "Seamless Sword Scatters Soul in Six Domains," which is the only meme to come out of Kikokugai.

    - A near death Taoluo being comforted by Ruili, telling him that she's there for him, ending with him going into yet another battle, already at his capacity, unable to keep his lungs from rupturing from the repeated use of anti-cyborg Neijia techniques.

    - The entirety of the last act, where Haojun reveals that Ruili wanted to be gang raped and killed, as Taoluo neglected her romantically, if she couldn't have Heaven, she would have Hell. Haojun and Taoluo kill each other in a fierce battle, with Haojun blaming Taoluo for his neglect until the very end. A tearful Taoluo performs the final Lightning Palm of his life, finally seeing his vengeance complete.

    - Taoluo being Soul Transfered into the vessel which contains Ruili's now complete Soul and spending an eternity with her, unaware of their blood relation.

    Essentially the whole thing.

    Muv Luv: Alternative

    - Takeru keeping his skills and physique from the previous cycles, blazing through the field exam and being considered the most proficient soldier of the bunch.

    - The coup d'etat.

    - Takeru's cockiness ending with PTSD upon seeing a BETA in person.

    - om nom nom

    - The rest of the game, with the exception of the god awful fan disc promotion ending. Considering their budget ran out, it seems like even more of a waste to include something like that. Unless it was made from the start.

    Kara no Shoujo:

    - Human flesh in ceramic eggs.

    - Characters being killed off unpredictably.

    - Toko losing her limbs, being essentially screwed in nearly all of the endings regardless of what happens.

    - Reiji's thorough investigations near the end of the story.

    - Toko in the shell in the true ending.

Apparently, I can't summarize my thoughts properly without writing half a novel. I've read close to 40 VNs, but these are the ones that stick out enough to still appear clear in my memory after all this time.

  13. Haven't played Cartagra yet, but Kara No Shoujo is a masterpiece in mystery in my opinion. The only thing I hate about it are the h scenes that don't fit into or add anything to the story.

I'd agree with this. Not to mention how poorly drawn the uncensored CGs are. I thought it was a joke at first. It has a few technical issues as well. Mostly with the way the voices play out. Early on, there was also a bug in the notebook which displayed all information about some of the characters, essentially spoiling the story for those who checked up on new characters with each update.

  14. As expected, reading Steam discussions etc. The PC release is full of bugs.

    Hidden Content

Well, the game costs 50 euros, and they released it without fixing the issues. It's Bndai Namco, if they won't patch it soon, they'll get even more refunds...

You can easily switch the opening movie, they put both instrumental and voiced into the files, but set up instrumental as core(probably they put the voiced one by "mistake") you just have to change the file name, and voilla.

Anyone from fuwa played PC release?

I've put in a few hours, and I haven't encountered any of these bugs. The only issue I have with it is low resolution character face self shadowing, which looks like garbage. I had to bloom it out with ReShade. I also only paid the equivalent of €36/$41 in my local currency. Steam has been awesome that way since finally ditching € in favor of NOK.

Gameplay wise, it's exactly what I wanted after Graces. Story wise, I agree with Nayleen.

  15. They don't allow you to ask about pirating games or where to pirate games from, which of course they wouldn't allow that, why would you even complain that they don't allow that? If they did, the emulator would be crushed by Sony.

Complain? Please. Fact is, it's an unpleasant community. The mods are abusive and ban with prejudice. I've had a 2 year old account permabanned without warning by a 15 year old mod for having a civilized argument with someone regarding hypocrisy. The ban message stated "signed up just to troll."

Their toxic attitude towards piracy makes the forum less than helpful, as a single mention of even an illegitimate BIOS (which absolutely everyone other than the PCSX2 developers use, by the way) results in the deletion of your thread and no further support. I'm not saying it should be allowed to promote piracy on their forums, but the amount of hostility they display at the mere mention of it is sickening and hypocritical.
