  1. So

I've been playing it since its release and am currently playing the curry part, which is chapter 5 of 15. I still can't feel it...

If you guys finished it, how well [or bad] is the story from this point on? Is it worth continuing if I'm not enjoying it? I only ask because I was already proven wrong by myself reading a VN [seabed] I disliked for a second time just to become one of my favorites, but I really don't want UsoNatsu to become a "second time read only" if there is potential later on.

I think the worst part for me is that the animation work is just poor at best, with animations taking too long/lip sync failing to match voices/transitions with loading screens etc. which makes the VN seem longer than it is.

But still, I want to like it so bad 😕

  2. For reference, I mean this quiz, which shows many different suggestions according to your tastes: https://fuwanovel.net/quiz/

I know it is still functional, what I'm asking is if it is still being fed with games and if it is usable. I believe it is a great feature Fuwa has that probably few people know about, and with the tons of new translations, both official [thanks Shiravune] and FTL, it's hard to keep track of games that'd be good reads for me. If possible, I'd love to have it working with the latest releases :3

  3. I can't contribute a lot because most of my year was spent reading the notoriously long White Album 2, the best girl being Touma, of course.

The biggest surprise for me is Mamiya. I already had some expectations for it being called a hidden gem, but I did not expect how much I'd enjoy it. One of the best VNs I've read overall.

Best support character is Sunohara, from Clannad, which I read for the second time.

Aside from WA2, my best girl was Olivia Berry, from Aojashin.

  4. Hmmmmmmm that's hard. Seabed is truly unique and I don't think there is anything like it in VN form. In books, though, you may find something that suits your tastes, but I can't immediately recall any that is "slice of life" oriented.

You may like White Album 2 as it's considered very "real" and well-written, but there are some parts of your list that happen in the story that you may not like, such as "quickly solving problems". WA2 is about solving everything as slowly as possible... which works in the story. You could also try Kara no Shojo/The Shell, BUT it is a mystery-driven game that has a lot of murdering and sex (although relevant to the story, most of the times).

Well, in 2018 I just had a no to answer, but ever since then, I changed my mind a lot. You should definetely try Kindred Spirits on the Roof. The only drawback is that it has two ghost girls acting as cupids, but the story is genuinely good as well as the romance. It is so good that I read it twice, which says a lot bc I hate doing so.

And the last recommendation I can think of is the What a wonderful series:

    https://vndb.org/v1027

    https://vndb.org/v417

    https://vndb.org/v11033

They are not fantasy, but steampunk. I guess it counts.

I assume you are VERY new to this whole scene? Because translating VN while asking for patron and stuff is a pretty recent thing. Most translators, especially in the early days did the work for literally nothing. Hell, just take a look at the Translation Projects section right here on this forum, how many people can you see that are demanding payment for their works?

Even though it's free work, it can still look really nice on your resume if you want to get involved in language-related job in the future. In my case, I was doing fan translation in my free time (not "years of my life") while studying oversea in order to improve my English. Worked amazingly well, I would say.

For lots of people, this is not work, but a hobby. And you simply don't ask people to pay for your hobby. Well, unless you are underage and they are your parents, then sure 🙄

I worked a lot with fansubbing when I was younger, for free and just for fans, and that was what cemented my career as a translator. It is just like you said, we do it as a hobby in our free time, but at the same time we gain valuable techniques and knowledge that will be useful for us in the future. Nowadays I don't do fansub anymore as this is now my job, but without it I would not be where I am now.

Besides that, VN fan translations are basically what made the market exist nowadays. When I began reading them, we only had a handful of good translated vns, fuwa still had torrents and the same teams worked in different projects for free. Now, if you check VNDB for official releases' staffs, you'll see many of those translators now being paid for their work at the same time we keep getting quality VNs WAY faster than before.

Also, charging for fan translations is shady as hell.

Works on my brain as well. Are you trying to open it third party? Reddit kinda killed those apps and it was a big deal.

No, I'm using Reddit's official app. I can open other subs without issue.

We are looking for playtesters. This thing is almost out the door, we need some QC! Also, yep, apparently there is a team called Alka working on the PC version. Can't wait to try it

Wouldn't it be better to join forces with Alka? As far as I know, their translation is stalled [at least there weren't any recent updates], so this could be a chance to have the whole game translated quickier, QChecked and released both on Switch and PC.

Oh, and they released the Kara no Shoujo Remaster. Already got it on Steam. Will be interesting if they manage to get the successors on Steam as well. MangaGamer wasn't able to.

What I think it's even more interesting is that MG now has two versions for the same game, while theirs is technically inferior and may not sell as much as the new one.

Btw I also hope the first Ryuusei World Actor comes to Jast, as thanks to their fair pricing policy it would be way cheaper than me converting to dollars to get it.
