FinalChaos reacted to Zalor in VNDB has inconsistent standards of what's considered a Visual Novel
I agree that those types of games and VNs can both be lumped under the broader category of Interactive Fiction, but I wouldn't call them Visual Novels. I think reading is a critical component for anything to be considered novelistic.
FinalChaos reacted to Zalor in Digital Seclusion: A visual novel about visual novels [FREE]
I would like to say before anything else, that this project is first and foremost an open love-letter to the visual novel medium. I've officially been reading visual novels (granted, on an on-and-off basis) for 10 years now. Hell, I've been posting on these forums for over 7 years. It's safe to say that visual novels are an ingrained part of me at this point. Whether across discussion threads here or blog posts, I've written a lot about my thoughts on visual novels, especially about those that I like. However, even with blog posts that I took lots of time to carefully write up and polish, I never felt like I was able to truly convey my genuine love for the medium. I think with this visual novel, Digital Seclusion, I've finally been able to do that to some respect.
Plot Synopsis: Isolated in a room repurposed into a personal shrine to esoteric Japanese media. Our nameless protagonist has dedicated himself to a collection of retro Japanese computer games, with a particular fondness for early visual novels. Although decaying in a slovenly existence to the untrained eye, his retreat into digital life is enriched by the scripted interactions with various charming 2D girls. His one purpose in life is to chronicle his thoughts and reflections on each of the digital worlds he immerses himself in. However, one day while pulling out another visual novel to review, a girl leaps straight out of the cover art and begins interacting with him, face to face. But perhaps most shocking of all, in a completely unscripted manner.
Information: Digital Seclusion is completely free. In terms of its length, I would estimate it to be between 1.5 ~ 2 hours long. The current and most likely final version of this VN is version 1.20.
FinalChaos got a reaction from Plk_Lesiak in Akai Haato (赤井はあと)
God I watched that stream live.
I overestimated my level and thought I could get through it, but I just lost it when she split the spider's body in half.
To think that she actually ate it.
The worst part is that there were crabs to eat the next day, which constantly reminded me of the damn tarantula.

FinalChaos reacted to Aureus in Roadwarden [Fantasy/RPG Elements/Pixel Art] [Full Version Released!]
Roadwarden is an interactive fiction
in which you explore and change a hostile, grim realm.
Everyone knows to stay away from the wilderness. Most people would never risk a lonely journey.
Roadwardens not only accept this struggle, they embrace it. They deliver messages, assist merchants, burn human corpses and, if possible, get rid of beasts and highwaymen.
They live on the road, die young or retire early.
It’s a dangerous job, but a respectable one. And it pays well.
Explore and change the world. Travel through a detailed fantasy setting filled with secrets, challenges and uniquely harsh lore. Have immersive conversations. To gain support of dozens of NPCs, you need to earn their trust during complex dialogues and sidequests. Create your own character through role-playing and decisions. Shape your background, abilities, beliefs and personality. Unveil the local mysteries. Investigate, use your wit and make connections to understand the true nature of this realm. Overcome your weaknesses. The wilderness is full of dangers and you can trust nobody. Find your path to success against all odds. Penlight is very much a work in progress. Over time I intend to improve the game's writing, art and audio into a more complete game with multiple story branches and additional choices that yield interesting consequences for the player. Check in every second Saturday of each month for a new public release with updated content!
While I'm confident I can make a functioning and enjoyable visual novel on a super limited budget, any funding I do get will be invested into making a higher quality product. If you would like to make a contribution, please visit my Patreon and consider pledging. $5 and over patrons get access to new content up to 4 weeks ahead of the free releases.
Comments and feedback are welcome, too. I appreciate any support!
FinalChaos reacted to Dreamysyu in Villains that don't go "Too Far"
I'm not 100% sure about what you're asking for, but, perhaps, Shinsekai Yori? I try to be vague, but it's still a spoiler that only gets revealed at the very end, so I'll use the spoiler box.
I'll make another post if I think of anything else. For now, nothing else comes to mind.
FinalChaos reacted to flamepaladin in Kami no Rhapsody Translation by Rhapsody Translation (Full patch released)
I'm back with a quick update (not even a day after I posted the so-called 'last update'...)
I just noticed that I forgot to include some translated images (namely, the tutorial images) in the full patch. I'm very sorry about this.
The patch has been updated to v1.1 to reflect this fix. You can find the link in my previous post, or in the op.
Do note that v1.1 refers to the version of the patch, not the game. Our patch does not include any of the game updates, so you'll have to update them separately. All of the game's updates and appends are translated in our patch though.
That's it for now. I'm very sorry for trouble, and thank you for reading.
See you next time ^^!
FinalChaos reacted to flamepaladin in Kami no Rhapsody Translation by Rhapsody Translation (Full patch released)
It's been a while, but I'm back with another update, and probably the last one for KnR.
As this is the last update, you've probably guessed what this means... All the images have been edited and the full patch has been released! (Yay)
Here's the link to the full patch: https://mega.nz/folder/MstRHI6S#bQVaRTSLnwQPNjYuCJKfpw
This is the same link as the one in the op. You can use either one to get the patch.
Since this is the full patch, all of the Japanese texts have been translated... or so I'd like to say. But unfortunately, there are still some minor texts that I couldn't find, so they're still untranslated. With that said, they're just some minor texts and won't impact your experience with the game.
I hope that our patch will be useful for you as you enjoy this game ^^.
Now, with the release of this patch, we won't be focusing on KnR anymore. The patch also won't get update unless there are some game-breaking bugs. Instead, we'll now focus on our other projects.
As for those projects... The next game we've decided to work on is Fuukan no Grasesta. Alongside that, we've also decided to work on our own interface patch for Tenmei no Conquista. I'll go into details in the projects' threads (once I create them XD).
That's it for now. Thank you very much for supporting and sticking with us in this journey. We really appreciate it.
See you in our next project's thread ^^!
