  1. How would you translate the 霊のカゴ part? I think I got everything else but this is just killing me. I am really bad with the の particle for some odd reason. Thanks.

    レジ can mean "register", as in "cash register". I don't recall it ever being used for "refrigerator"

    コーナー in 弁当コーナー only refers to a specific section in a store. This scene is probably at a convenience store.

    半額弁当 is likely "half-priced/half-off" bentou

    霊のカゴ Without the context Mephisto gave you the likely definition.

I just created an account on vndb because I got to to point in whichI played too many visual novels and I can't remember them all. with the vndb I'm able to keep track of which games I've played and rate them, like animeplanet. In any case, when I made an account an went to my profile, I was pleasantly surprised by the skins. I didn't know you could change it in the first place and I thought it was a very good idea. My favorites were the Gekkou no Carnevale black and the Fate stay night pale carmine, What were your?

    Yes, they are all very pleasant. I'm fond of Tsukihime (black), it's quite vivid.

  3. Slowly got to the end of Muramasa Chapter 2. Hmm. I'd have to say I'm most interested in the main character. The others don't interest me nearly as much atm, though they do build the setting. Oh, and the "route-close" event scared the crap out of me.

     

    Finished chapter 3 out of 5 in Giniro. I thought I wasn't going to get into this chapter's story (they start out slow, and this chapter's setting wasn't my favourite, but there was some turning point that grabbed me in suddenly.) The third chapter was dominated by drama, unlike the previous ones. Seeing things unfold was like a cross between watching a train wreck in a disguise, and watching a train wreck.

     

    Please disregard my previous post on Giniro (it's rather misguided). Giniro is characterized by:

    Drama, Grief, Melancholy, Nihilism (in the first chapter), historical element/settings, utsuge, detailed emotions of characters, some word artistry, and likely some overarching themes.

     

    Played the prologue of houkago no futekikakusha. Oh my god. That was gripping.

    edit: That wasn't the end of the prologue, it was only the end of the diary. That was a ultimately unremarkable introductory premise sculpted into an unbelievably powerful intro.

    She is unimaginably strong. Heck, all the characters are. So I thought...

    ...until I learned how they cling on to notions as to not crumple in the face of hopelessness.

  4. Kizuato (http://vndb.org/v184) is best thought of as some form of mystery novel. As you play through the routes you get more and more answers (even to things which don't seem like they need an answer (most of them didn't), until you could not possibly have any more questions. This is kizuato's strength. The scenario is pre-set and consistent, with minor allowances given to let the routes play out appropriately. The consequence of this is that each route only contains what is needed to advance the plot (the layer by layer revealing of the scenario, a good showcase of what the vn medium can do). Except in the first route, there is no classical build up and resolution. This is even more jarring when it comes to the romance. There is absolutely no romance as in "romancing" (a relationship developing) in this novel. Overall, I'd say the game is about a 7.8. It doesn't have any "great points", but it has many "good points", without many bad ones. However, it'll WILL seem alot worse if you don't don't accept the above qualifications.

    Minimal spoiler overview


    The characters are ... only and deep as the plot needs them to be. The protagonist actually has the most depth in the first arc (he has a large stake in it, to the point where I feel like he shares the first arc with Chizuru). He has resentment towards his father, hesitation towards being pay attention to by his cousins (who were more deeply struck by his father's death then him), his admiration for Chizuru, and the painful awareness/discontentment when he realizes how many burdens

    Chizuru shoulders. The end of the arc is pretty intense. All in all, the first arc is well-rounded and could stand by itself.

     

    The second branch (so short it shouldn't be called a route/arc), went straight searching for the suspect, which had good tension. The ending itself wasn't confusing, but the way they presented something was baffling and felt weird, and isn't explained until later. However, other than this not many questions remain.

     

    Kaede's Route...is also very short. You might have already guessed why Kaede had been avoiding the MC, but the truth is a little beyond that. That h-scene though. I have never seen anything as sudden [-_-] . Though it's so gentle and tender it was somehow heartwarming. http://s.vndb.org/sf/98/11998.jpg This picture sums up the atmosphere of important part of Kaede's route. Nostalgic, calm, sad, quiet. This arc introduces some of the things related to the fourth arc.

     

    Then there's the Interlude, <can't talk about this without spoiling something, though it is revealed in the first arc>
    Overall this interlude is a high point in the novel. No fluff, just brutal, cold perspective. Also this wraps up all the real life conflict, ie. there's no more development on that end.

    where you take the perspective of the perpetrator. I hated the guy as much as anyone else, but the first thing they do is throw you in to his shoes. Not the oni that will take him over, the man who is at wit's end, his psyche chipped away into nonetheless. You have some more relevant scenes, until the end where we finally see "let go"/snap. The depiction here was enough for me to mostly accept the way he behaved during in earlier arcs.


    The fourth route is pretty crazy. While not in quality, in form, I'd liken it to a "mini-ever17".  After a nice fireworks scene (I liked that.), it suddenly goes into this long eerie horror sequence, by the middle of which you are just dyying to get out of there. A number of baffling things happen, and then boom - the story goes into crazy explanation mode, the baffling things  you saw, and some of the facts from the earlier arcs (that didn't seem like they needed or would have an explanation), all end up being  symptoms of a larger-scale backstory, far-removed from the original setting.
    The past arc has some irrelevant past scenes, and then caps off the backstory with some explanation at the very top of the causation chain. Jeez, it's pretty out there.
    Girls in order of how much business they should have in liking Kouichi (Normal eroge relationship standards>>>Kaede>Chizuru>>>>Hatsune>>Azusa).
    Looking at the scenario as a whole, I can't think of a better way they could have layed it out. The irregular structure just followed from the scenario they had decided on before hand. Uhh, most of the rape wasn't neccesary. It was technically relevant, but they could have left most of it unshown or abbreviated.

    Oh, and to answer Aggressor's request.

    I only played through about a 1/3-1/4 of it, but it seems like the last route is an "extra route" that happens half a month after the events in the rest of the story. The main character picks up a childish maid who has recently been unemployed for certain reasons and is desperate for work, room and board. I think the arc is only meant to be semi-serious, though there should be a plot line. On the bright side, the new character kinda breathes some life into the household. On the other hand, it's basically just an extra freebie route. It'd be ironic though if the maid got more romance development then any of the original cast though.


    For some reason I couldn't unlock the route even after playing all the omake. Maybe you have to go through all the bad ends?. I ended up downloading a 100% save file.


     

  5. What the true route is about? I stopped playing after finishing the youngest of the sisters route, because I didn't feel like having more of it. But I'm interested enough to at least read about it here, so can you tell me? (feel free to spoiler everything).

    I haven't played it yet. I'm just about to start it. Went through 2/3 of the omake skits and then took a break. For sure, I'll write an outline.

     

    As for what it's about... I thought it might cover the conclusion of the "alternate perspective" route, but that itself wouldn't make a route. It could be similar to the struggles from the earlier routes, except struggling for a better end. Either way I'll be sure to tell when I finish it.

  6. Finished the 4 heroine routes of 痕 ~ きずあと

    I keep forgetting that the original game (not the remake) came out before and was the an influencing factor for tsukihime (not the other way around).

    Wow the 3rd and especially the 4th route and interlude really went in a different direction. Instead of expanding the scale of the plot, they dive into the origins of the curse, a completely different world. I got my answer to the question I had after the first route: "How can they reveal so much of picture and have material to work with in other routes?".

    It didn't feel exceptional or even great in *quality*, but it had a certain "completeness" "ahh, that's how it was." Mmm long exposition scenes. The characters don't really get much deeper though. After the interlude, there's a omake with full blown comedy skits. They were pretty funny and ridiculous. After that, all that's left is the true route.

     

    Started reading 銀色 (http://vndb.org/v915). I think I wanted to run away from the modern school setting as much as possible... and succeeded.

    Non-spoiler. Pardon the disorder in thoughts.

    I finished the first story, and am near the end of the second one (which is somewhat longer than the first.)

     

    The dialogue and scenes are short, though there are quite a few each story. The first story was cool. Sad, but much more than that, it felt very empty. Chalk it up to who the MC and heroine are.

    Giniro probably isn't a plot driven story. It might be an equally character and theme-driven story.

    This is the initiation, existence, and closing of the acquaintanceship between the protagonist and heroine. The focus is shared between the protagonist and heroine of each story. Of course, the mysterious bishoujo allure might always be there.

    The characters are pretty far I feel like this is the "show, don't tell" approach to being thought-provoking. I'm not sure exactly what, but it *seems* meaningful. The text is difficult, and I'm sad when I miss things. I do plan on going back.

    The topic of "if you could have any wish granted, what would you wish for?" get touched on, but not heavily. Surprisingly, it's completely absent plot-wise.

    Also: no H-scenes, in the traditional sense. Least not so far. It looks like they didn't feel obligated to add them in here, which is a good thing: it wouldn't have fit with the story so far.

  7. I'm looking for VNs in which astronomy or mythology involving constellations and stars are prominent in at least one route. 

    I've already read Planetarian & Hoshimemo so please don't say those.

    Soshite ashita no sekai yori (Minami's Route). Her father is an astronomer so she shares an interest in that. I wouldn't say it's prominent, but it does show up here and there.

    can someone help me with these lines? I might just be tired or something, but these are tripping me up, especially the last line. The situation is that Saginomori-sensei is modeling for Warwick-san's sketch while reading a doujinshi

    I haven't asked one, so I couldn't really say... Doujinshi are made because the artist wants to.

    The desire to create something is what's important, so it's not like if you're bad you can't do it. Well, if it's about the money, nothing's going to top being skilled.

    It's just a change of pace for me......Besides, if what I draw sells, it'll help cover the cost of producing doujinshi. [i'm assuming Warwick draws doujinshi, and is doing picture-drawing/sketching for a change,  and that 同人誌の費用 "Doujinshi Expenses" are from him creating/publishing doujinshi, but it could what he spends buying doujinshi.]

  11. Oh, I liked this one, and "Tsukihime-like" was my first thought too. I became interested in it because of this awesome shot:

    And after finishing the first route I was thinking "Darn, this is great!". But you know, other routes are pretty different, it gets more... warped the further you go. In the end I still liked it, but only up to 8/10. And btw this is one of the few VN where I had to use a walkthrough. Anyway, the first route is really badass, have fun! :)

    Haha, I stopped on that exact picture today. I saw the image fleetingly on vndb, but it the fact never occurred to me until it appeared. Hyyype. Totally my type of cg art.

  12. Reading 痕~きずあと. (First route)

    Thoughts, No-spoiler.

    It feels like Tsukihime, with the setup being the MC is struggling against something mental that is threatening to overwhelm them with violence and primal-ness.

    Tsukiato is a lot less mindwarp then tsukihime. Also, the story is less isolated, with the story background and plot involving along a commercial group and the media/police. In that sense it feels a bit like Higurashi.

     

    Unlike tsukihime, where it was tense as the MC adjusted to the new environment, and some of the characters were rather quirky at first glance (I'm looking at you Ciel). The heroines are sisters in one household, and so the atmosphere in the house and relationship between the 4 are quite familiar and warm. The initial mood is interesting enough. The MC's estranged father died a bit before the start of the story. Due to circumstances, his father was separated from him and so his cousins actually are more impacted by his death. While he comes to terms with how uncomfortable that feels, the story starts to develop...

     

    On one hand, it feels like the story moved smoothly and reasonably quickly to the plot (unlike tsukihime). I'm not especially moved by the tense quasi-horror scenes yet. I think this holds true in general, the reason being, there isn't really a whole lot at stake. You are just witnessing the MC struggle and accepting what happens. It feels like this early in the VN, those things are more like spadework, getting the reader familiar with the devil the MC knows in his mind. So far the story is pleasant, but ordinary. I'll be looking for lots of varied events (not repetitive). With a mandatory route order (gradually revealing more of the truth), you can do very deliberate and interesting presentations, outcomes, and character states. You can also be very lame and spread the plot and information over 5 routes of filler. Only time will tell.

    It's a form of government where there exists a monarch established by the law.

    This is the lineup for next month.  The ones I definitely am going to play are the one by NostalgicChord, Sakigake, the one by Ensemble, and the Majo one.  I may or may not play the last, as that company has yet to satisfy me with any of its games.

    The cover for Houkago no Futekikakusha and it's mystery tag piques my interest. That's terribly little to go by, so I'll guess I'll wait for screenshots/verdicts.

    That 'Last class' bit was my favourite part of the VN so far. The everyday happy BGMs were so bizarre in that situation that I almost thought the VN was broken for a moment, yet it made so much sense in the context. It was great, though I had to stop at the air-battle part. I wish I had more time. :x

    Gee, that part really stood out for me as well!

    Also the fact that neither ただやすnor こなつ spoke during the whole scene. Not using, say, a suspenseful or fearful melody bypassed any "fight or flight" response from the reader. It was like a daylight horror, a  farce (滑稽な光景)、and a tragedy; it had with feeling of powerlessness and dread. Which makes it so much more surprising when ゆうひ reacts with anger and indignation instead. It was 鈴川 's stage and they were his puppets. He was a god. Which in turn makes for a dramatic arrival by 湊斗.

     

    The bgm there felt like it was accompanying the end of a story, with the feeling that everything has fallen into place. From the author's perspective, it's an A-grade troll. From 鈴川's perspective, things probably feel right. He has finally opened his students' eyes to the light, in all it's worldly wretchedness.

  16. Stalled (Dropped?) ハピメア

    -the main branch is slow (Played up to Chapter 4)

    -there's nothing that has to be explained (reverse infodump), so it's constantly feeling like nothing's happening.

    -the characters don't seem to have a purpose. I can sort of see the potential behind them, but they've been placed in so few kinds of situations, that they can't help but be flat. It's a lot of tea and crumples mixed with the protagonist ruminating in scattered lines of thought.

    It's not like playing it is that unpleasant, or that it's like I don't like the characters (I sorta do), but between the slow plot and static characters, everything's so languid. Aiyoku no Eustia, in comparison, had a slow development at times, but the setting was rich and the characters shone so brightly it wasn't really an issue.

    I heard the later parts were quite good. Maybe I'll come back in a while and end up enjoying the novel then.
