  1. I'm not a business expert, but I fail to see how a CG gallery costs money or space for that matter. You already own the rights to use the images provided in the game, so is there some rule that only allows them to use the original work a certain number of times? Are artists charging the company money every time art is displayed on screen? What I think Japan will fail to understand here is that there is nothing wrong with using sexual incest as a theme in the visual novel. If you simply describe it and make it important for his character development, then it should be allowed. Rape and murder are common themes in a lot of traumatizing genres, so I don't see why it's a big deal here. As long as they don't include actual imagery, I think it's fine.
  2. A Japanese company is localizing a Japanese game. PC games cost 8,800 - 9,200 yen in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if the price is expensive, but I could be wrong. Also, no VN company should ever "remove" shit from a game such as a CG gallery. That would never fly in Japan for any eroge being pitched, so why the hell does Front Wing think it's some good move here? It's almost insulting to be honest, as if they assume we are all idiots. A very important thing to note here: Japanese people do not blatantly like to say no unless required. The "discussion" is just a polite way of saying "sorry, that will not happen" in my opinion.
  3. I'm extremely confused why anyone would want to support this shady business from a Japanese developer. It's a cash grab from a dying market; there is literally no reason for all of those fees when the only thing that needs to be "purchased" are the rights to the game and the shipping fees for physical copies. Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are other small fees here and there that I have no clue about, but a Kickstarter is not needed in my eyes. What are they localizing?
  4. Talking about the conclusion of the VN in Rakuen. Everything that mattered is thrown out the window and it becomes its own stand alone game. If you think the girl's personalities meant anything, they do a complete 180 in Rakuen. If you like explosions, epic car chases, helicopter duels, romance, fighting, and broken hearts all told in compelling static imagery, this is the game for you! Also:
  5. Well I agree, Grisaia is trash and the Hollywood ending is some sort of Indiana Jones BS.
  6. Is this a troll? Are you a troll? How dare you sarcastically downvote this title. Maya is trash.
  7. Sorry, too busy fapping to beautiful VNs. @Down
  8. Let's all take a moment and talk about a good fucking visual novel, and I mean a good fucking visual novel. I haven't played a visual novel for over 2 years, and then Front Wing decides to go all "Hey bro, do you like good visual novels? Have some fucking cake son, and eat it like the disgusting pig you are." Visual Novel Fan Response: "But Ren! This game is just moe trash and you hate lolis to begin with. Such poor taste...Little Busters was rated a 4/10 for this garbage?" My Response: https://youtu.be/SpwBG2Dtpmk?t=304 Island. Play the demo, love the game. Ohara Rinne is the best thing since sticky notes were invented. I've already ordered both the Getchu and Sofmap editions of the game, and I can't fucking wait until Comiket 91 this summer when Front Wing gives me a shit ton of goodies and t-shirts. Seriously though... If anyone is in Japan, please let me know. Akiba Gamers, Animate, Sofmap, and Tora all have wallscrolls I want. Please help me, I will pay you my soul and all my money. Don't believe me? I fucking already waste my money on pointless weeb shit, so you can believe I'll waste my money on this pointless garage too.
  9. Any online tournament needs a riveting live stream and an eccentric shoutcaster filled with salt. I would like to fulfill this role please.
  10. Fan translation will die out for certain genres, however it will never die out for moege; companies will never license moege commonly, because Japan will never give the 3 companies in the US their rights.
  11. Oh you! You still have a lot to learn young one. Fuwanovel runs on salt.
  12. Today is Friday. I watched people play Dark Souls 3 and proceeded to convince liberal governments that I am not a fascist scum this week. Work needs to end soon. Prepare your male and female anuses for some dank memes: I do it for the YouTube cash. In all seriousness though, how was everyone's week?
  13. I do it for the subs and piles of thick YouTube cash. I'll be rolling in monetization soon, and then @firecat will have been right this entire time. You're all idiots for trusting me.
  14. Asking for a translation is like asking an artist to draw you fan art for free. No offense to you in anyway, but in the artist community it's rude and that kind of stuff doesn't fly, nor should it here. Ask anyone who does commission work.
  15. Tabletop Simulator is $9.99 on Steam right now. Buy it. I am salty I paid $19.99 for Nosebleed's copy a day earlier. Fuck me. Seriously, buy the damn thing so I can play games with people. Secret Hitler and Arkham are the bee's knees.
  16. I'd learn French to be honest. It is spoken in many countries over the world, and is one of the 2nd most used international languages. French can also pave way for the other romance languages (Spanish/Italian).
  17. I'm going to say no, VNs are not representative of real life in a lot of ways. The main reason I say this is due to the fact that almost every character in a normal (non fantasy/action) visual novel setting revolves around high school and characters who are 15-17 years old. While I do believe certain situations do occur in our high school lives (and in Japan), the immaturity level of people around this age (myself included when I was that age) don't grasp the amount of drama thrust into their lives. The adult themes presented in a lot of slice of life anime/visual novels make me feel that even in high school, not a lot of people would understand and/or be exposed to that level of drama. More than likely, you haven't had kids, you haven't experienced a lot of death surrounding your life, and you haven't really "seen" a lot in the world yet. Is that entirely true? Absolutely not, everyone's situation is different, however I just feel at that age you haven't fully understood the way the world works yet, which makes me feel it isn't really a good way to judge real life. Getting a house, having a career, not having a lot of free time in the world - it's those things and more that really make you understand the different stages of life a lot more. Talking solely about love, honestly I don't believe that high school is the place to figure out how to speak to people. When you get older (around my age) you realize how fucking stupid you were when you were younger and how at the end of the day, all that dramatic nervousness and bullshit you had with girls/guys in high school is pointless. People change their views and goals with age, and shit that mattered back then mean nothing now.
  18. I don't care what anyone says, Space Dandy had an amazing dub; the director of the show himself came to the US to promote it. There is no way some of those jokes would even be funny if it kept the original Japanese. The more I think about it, that show really is one of the best anime I've had the pleasure of watching. How else could you even begin to understand the High School Musical episode in original Japanese? George Romero references, Daft Punk/Earth, Wind, & Fire style tracks, it's done so well. The industry needs more shows (and promotion) like this.
  19. This site runs on salt deposits and dank fuel. There has not been enough of the latter in the past week. Please provide this thread with tons of dank memes. Make sure it can melt steel beams. In honor of March Madness being done:
  20. That's just it though, Frontwing is going to ask for an atrocious amount of money on the Kickstarter and still charge $40 a copy since it's already used to charging $80 a copy in Japan. People don't want to pay that amount of money. Translation aside, it's just a money issue for fans in my opinion. Personally, I don't care about the price, but since it is in essence a digital book, it should be charged like one, not a charged like a video game.
  21. I never said the Japan sales were for all video games, merely that the group is responsible for managing all digital media aspects. I also completely disagree with your comment about the loophole being exploited, because the way it's setup, Frontwing has no reason to launch a Kickstarter.
  22. Honestly, the more I think about it, I believe the only reason they are doing this is to avoid the rules set in place by the ECOJ for selling media in Japan. The "Japan Sales Only" label means that they cannot sell their games outside of the country themselves, so by circumnavigating the issue with a Kickstarter, all they are doing is creating a loophole in order to not only earn extra money they don't need but also avoid being banned from selling their games in the Japanese market. In other words, by going through a 3rd party group, they are hiding their earnings and essentially "dodging" the ECOJ. As long as they aren't the ones selling the game, it's fine. Shady stuff.
  23. What upsets me the most is that all this is doing is asking for money that is not needed whatsoever. Frontwing already earns money in Japan and is a very rich company when it comes to the games they make each year. With anime royalties, a VN market, and other products, why the fuck do they need to run a Kickstarter? If they really want to localize the game all they need to do is buy the rights in Japan, therefore allowing a Western release. There is absolutely no reason a Kickstarter needs to throw another 400,000 dollars their way. It's shameful as a company and a disgusting practice for an already AAA company that doesn't need the money at all. Why feed them money early, then have to pay 40-50 dollars for the game in the future a second time? We all know the price of the game is going to be expensive, considering a new VN in Japan already sells for 8,800 yen or more. It's a cash grab and the same kind of bullshit Sunshine pulls with Love Live. This is almost as bad people who preorder games that have no added bonus material whatsoever. It isn't even about the fans at this point... Doesn't matter I guess as people will still blindly toss money at it no matter what they ask for. Popular games will always, and have always been funded. To give you an example, I bet that if TM launched a Fate Kickstarter asking for 5 million dollars, it would be funded in less than a day. I promise you that.
