castor212 reacted to ChaosRaven in Clannad? Overrated or Worthy of it's honours?
I think when judging Clannad, it has to be considered how old this title really is. It was released in 2004, so it's about 13 years old now. I've read it just a few years ago when it was already about 10 years old and would have rated it a solid 7/10 at that time. But to be fair, if I would have read it ten years ago, it would have probably impressed me a lot more. Furthermore, Clannad is a school life nakige/moege which is nowadays amongst the most common VN's released in Japan, with most likely several dozen releases per year of varying quality. That means it has lots of competition by now.
So I think there's no shame for a 13 year old title, that significantly defined the whole genre, to be just 'solid average' anymore today.

i meandid you finish those 3 before judging it amateurish

because if you at least finish FSN, i dont think you can call that "lackluster visual and audio to accompany lacklustre writing". Or amateurish, for that matter.
and pacing problem sounds more like you were expecting novel level pacing. VN pacing is very different because its not meant to be read lika a book, piece meal each volume. Its a long, long journey, and a good VN can essentially create a world from that journey, by means of choice, that create other paths and journeys., which can reference each other Books cant do that.
Add the fact that you pick 3 longass 30 hours and over gameplay VN and it will of course kick you in the rear if you expect book level pacing.

IMO its less VNs sucks and more "very different from what i expected" thingy for you.
    Just my 2 cents

    much thanks, CrazyMan
I dont mind censorship, but alteration to the point of staling the VN main component (the sex jokes and stuffs) might be too much of a turn off for me.
This seems like a great VN for its genre, so ill just wait either when a resotration patch happens or until i passes N2

ok so after combing through the thread ningen gave me, apparently ithe main point wasnt the overblown sexual stuffs, but the main story instead?

...uh, pardon my choice of words, but how much of the original is altered (butchered?)? I mean, both from technical language view and the scenes' implied impression

    tbh, not really
there are lots of character who didnt got their supposed arc and story development because episode limitation and got demoted to extra
which makes several scene in last episode less than what it shouldve been
the disharmony i wont dispute, but it came to be because of bad episode management and cour length

    but hey, YMMV
not saying anything bout charlotte tho

I played it fuly expecting a fullblown hardcore nukige with barely a plot to tie it together.  Not to mention a low expectation.

ANd then I played till the end and I was like DAMN.

I played about halfway through the main game and I couldn't get past the 2nd H-scene.  The game basically distills the worst elements of moege: a plot that doesn't go anywhere, dialogue that exists just to tell jokes, and awkward H-scenes that lack dramatic impact.  Playing through the game was literally a chore.  Frustration with the glut of games like this in English is exactly why I started playing untranslated titles almost ten years ago.

Ryukishi07 did Claudia the potato girl, 'Crazy' Alfred Akagi, Old Jeanne Amakawa, Maurice Monobe (expy of Higurashi and Umineko's Okonogi), James Tomitake (expy to Tomitake Jirou from Higurashi), Old Wayne Uedera, Wang Yuanhong, Tequila Matoba, and all the grunt mafias, around 10 or so different sprites.

Souichiro, one of Umineko manga adptation artist, draw Rose Haibara, Richard Maiougi, Stella Maiougi (expy to Rika), Meryl Tanashi (this one was drawn with different style in purpose, also expy in name to Higurashi Miyo Tanako), Caleb Keireiji, Miguel Kurashiki, Julie Hayashibara, and Rapunzel.

Jirou Suzuki, another guy who draw Umineko manda adaptation, draw the supreme badassery incarnation Leo Shishigami, Battler expy Capt. Phillip Butler, Lee Meijiu, Alan Aramaki, Lee Meixue, and Gabriel Kaburaya (may this whitehaired bastard's soul be damned in hell several times over).

Jirou Suzuki has quite a distinct art style, with those thin limbs in his drawing. But the one he draws always came out real handsome/pretty. I mean, like, REALLY.

An artist named Yaeko Ninagawa draws young Wayne Uedera, Cyrus Saimura, Amanda Amamiya, and Toratsugu Uedera.

An artst named Nana Natsunishi who also draw an adaptation of Rose Guns Days in the form of manga, draws Oliver Oribe, Charles Chatani, and Keith Kisaragi. An artist named Yuuji Takagi draws NIna Ninagi.

Hinase Momoyama, the one who drawn Umineko and Higurashi manga adaptation, draws Xiao-Lan the Supreme Moe Chinese Loli Assassin (also named Lee Meilan in the credit), and also Young Jeanne Amakawa.

Lastly, Higasa Akai draws Sun Zilong.

I think that's about all of them.
