  1. Roughly how long does it take to do a run through of the game? I'm not talking about 100% complete/NG+, just one run through. I like games like this, but always end up getting bogged down by the grind. Darx is level 4 for me atm, and it feels like it has been relatively slow-starting. I want to read the story, and make a team, and muck about in the dungeons doing missions, but I don't want to have to sit around grinding.
  2. Ugh, tell me about it. I hated Milla's voice in particular, but over all I didn't find any of the english voice actors to be all that good in Xillia. Speaking of which... I still need to finish that game.
  3. So tempted to make a post saying: OMG FINALLY IT'S HEEEEEEEERRRRREEEEEEEEEEEE Translation's done! we can finally play Miyako's route!!!!!!!!!!!! So many delicious tears could be had as people hurriedly check for the patch, only to realize it's all a lie.
  4. No point speculating. Could turn up tomorrow with the full release. Could turn up tomorrow with news of a delay. Could come around a month from now with a partial patch. Could show up a week from now explaining it will be a while. Could disappear forever. etcetc. Keeping track of the news? sounds great. But speculating with no concrete information isn't doing anything positive. If anything, it makes people impatient and catty as they start to obssess over it. And that most certainly is not an environement that is going to encourage the tranlator to work or post about his progress.
  5. Music score, voice acting quality, animation quality, are some of the easy ones to identify, and SAO did them well. Story-wise, it can be a bit more difficult to isolated objective qualities of "what makes it good", but pacing of events and character relationships, use of foreshadowing and other such literary devices, use of tropes and character archetypes, uniqueness, depth of plot.
  6. Sorry, bad idea on my part. I often participate in heated arguments about this subject and jumped in and said that, but now that I think about it, it's probably not a good idea here. As far off topic as this thread is, even it can be locked so I'd prefer not to tread those waters and risk it. That aside, I agree with Jun, an argument for popularity is not an argument for quality. Millions of fan girls can like Pop-Idol-Of-The-Week-san, but that's not a convincing point in favor of the idol's signing ability. SAO was pretty good, but it had too many flaws to get the 9/10 or 10/10 rating some people rave it should have. The pacing of the story is one of the biggest faults in my eyes.
  7. I'm in the "eh, it was a 6-7" crowd, but mysogyny? really? That's quite the misuse of that word. If anything, anime have a tendency to be philogynistic.
  8. Must be why they load the videos up with distracting visuals.
  9. I usually just lurk here, but I'm so tempted to post youtubepoops after seeing that video... Instead, enjoy (the slightly more relevant to this thread) Pamyu Pamyu!
  10. Unfortunately, it's dead. Elina's route is finished, but no others were. Last september (just as the project was announced as dying), the TL said he finished all the routes except Miu's, and would release them by december if no other team took up the project. Sadly no one took up the project and he never released the other routes, and if you followed his twitter over the months, it became painfully clear that he simply never finshed the other routes and spent most of his time trolling people who asked him about it. Rumors about it are really just that, rumors. Unsubstantiated and reasonably untrue. If it so happens that it does get finished, all the better. In the meantime though, you're best off considering it a dead project and just enjoying Elina's route. I found Chaos;Head to be pretty enjoyable and somewhat along the same lines as those you've mentioned. It's about a neurotic nerd who lives on his own and gets involved with some murder cases. Has some psy-fi elements. Deus Machina Demonbane was another good one. About a detective who ends up piloting a giant mech and fighting evil. Very much tied to the Cthulu mythos. Both of the above are on the darker side, and both are fully voiced (including protag) with decent art and a good story with a nice dose of mystery. Continuing with the "dark" theme there's Devi-dead. It's a little older though, can't remember if it's voiced. Can get a bit gory at times. On a more light-hearted side, there's Dear Drops. It's about a young-man who's a prodigial violinist, but gets defamed and ends up living/working in a rock house. kinda casual, nice "feel good" story to it, good music (I really love the title screen's song xD) Oh, and there's this one visual novel I really liked called "Majikoi". I would definitely recommend you check it out
  11. What's the latest news on the translation status for Miyako's route? It's really hard to find relevant posts with all the off-topic discussion x.x Perhaps those in charge of the project could do edits (with big bold titles to draw attention and dates to keep a timeline) to their posts on the first page with relevant information?
  12. Just made an account to show my support, thanks a lot for doing this guys, it's very much appreciated Majikoi has been awesome thus far, but I can't bring myself to try the new games until I've finished the first one. The guys at yandere are great, but it's killing me that they've been hung up for so long with no reason (though I don't blame em, they have their own lives and concerns to deal with). Best of luck with the translation! I'd also like to add that I'm a Network Engineering student (read; I know some computer stuff), and while I can't guarentee my time/schedule, if you send me a message I may be able to help out with things like making HTML webpages. So if you decide to make a translation group and need help setting up, send me a message and I'll volunteer myself (assuming I'm free): [email protected] There's no timelimit on this offer, so don't be shy even if it's been several months
