  1. The default settings in Ren'Py are only okay and are passable for maybe an old visual novel, but at least they work. It's not too hard to learn (well at most, you'll be able to move/resize UI elements around) and there's plenty of documentation though. As for drawing and music, Ryukishi07 wasn't that great at drawing either and he found music that was in the public domain when he first started... So don't feel too discouraged about it. It's not like you have to get a team of people you know personally either. Just look at how Katawa Shoujo was developed. Of course, it has its disadvantages with people disappearing though.
  2. They reported afterwards that it was a mistranslation and they were only announcing that the voices were still limited to the iconic phrases, which is still good and keeps the costs of localization down.
  3. Seeing as you've played those Key visual novels, it's only natural to recommend the... other Key visual novels you haven't read according to that list: Little Busters!, Air (I don't remember if this was translated 100%), Planetarian, and when it's translated, Rewrite. Out of all the visual novels I've read though, and that is a small amount, I'd really like Little Busters and Narcissu (2nd Side). I've seen very little mention of Narcissu, but I find it to be an interesting read. Little Busters... I think you've heard enough of it's reputation. I'd say it's comparable to the likes of Clannad, although with a different theme.
  4. Well if you're looking for a fan translation, I don't know if there is one that exists... Nor does VNDB note that one exists. As a result, that's probably why it's not on Fuwanovel either. However, if you're looking for the game in it's vanilla form (and you understand Japanese), you can find the 2009 limited release with like 3 seeders here. "[090130] [Navel] 俺たちに翼はない -Limited Edition-" should be the right one... Hopefully that's right, since the release dates match and so do the titles. The AfterStory and Prelude games are in that search listing as well. Hopefully that helps you.
  5. Joystiq just reported that the Japanese version will have full voiceovers! I wonder how the English version will sound...
  6. I would say that by providing (free) pre-patched visual novels, that is already one way that Fuwanovel "markets" itself to spread visual novels. Additionally, the wiki is supposed to help speed the process of translating visual novels or "train" people, although it doesn't seem to work if you want to register. As a result, there are no entries yet. There are guides on Aaeru's blog on how to learn Japanese and hopefully get yourself up to a decent level of fluency to help spread visual novels yourself (Although I wish they could be merged into the wiki, and maybe set up guides as well for the wiki). That's another way Fuwanovel is trying to spread them.
  7. Oh right, I forgot to consider the 8 years. I didn't feel that there was anything more to the 8 years besides all the work Phoenix was doing... But I guess there's a lot more to it that they can fill that time gap with. AAI1 and AAI2 interestingly enough actually managed to squeeze all of those cases before Phoenix gets disbarred so they never had to make reference to that(or were set in the "past"). There was even a "cameo" appearance with Maya and Phoenix together in the background at one point and which would be her last chronological appearance...
  8. I'm not sure what their source is (AA wikia), but it's said to be roughly 1 year after the 4th game. A lot of things can happen in a year though. Ever since Trials and Tribulations (including Edgeworth spinoffs... I wish they localized AAI 2...), it seems to be a theme to go to older cases, have a case within a time skip, or even just go in anachronological order. The same wikia also says Maya Fey "was training at Kurain Village, which seems to imply that she will not feature heavily in the game" which would be disappointing... Although I have managed to enjoy pretty much all of the new sidekicks they've made: Trucy, Kay, etc. If the whole overarching tragedy/story was about the Fey clan in the first three games, I'd expect whole new one for these games... Maybe to do with what happened in AA4: "A dark time is coming for our legal system ... We have to set it right." I'm guessing/hoping this will strike closer to Phoenix himself. The preview of the game was said to be called Turnabout Countdown and the case is about "a high school girl named Shinobu Morizumi, accused of planting a bomb to destroy one of the courtrooms at the District Court." Perhaps he'll be back in one of the later cases, or maybe they'll do one of those things where you play as him for one whole case.
  9. I'd ask the same question, except for Maya. What happened to Maya!? Is she gonna be a murder victim!? I remember hearing that this next game would be the last one Phoenix will appear in. I find it odd that he's coming back for a full fledged game so maybe they decided to not go that route and he'll be staying for a longer period of time I guess. Or maybe what happens this game will be really shocking. And then Apollo will have to step in again? Honestly, what I'm looking for is another one of those orchestra albums that they like to release with the games these days. And I still need to buy a 3DS... And lets not forget about Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton now.
  10. Rin's voice actor/CV, Tomoe Tamiyasu, provides voices for 3 characters in the visual novel, Sasami Sasasegawa, Riki Naoe, and of course, Rin Natsume. I know it's pretty surprising. This does not carry over in the anime because it would be impossible for her to do 3 characters in the anime. Unless your patch is genuinely broken, although I doubt it.
  11. Videogamedunkey is hilarious as usual. Hard mode seems difficult enough. Considering the number of ways to assassinate someone... Looks like it'd be fun. I wish I had hard drive space.
  12. If you really insist on a guide, you can find one here with the recommended order. Interesting enough, it actually recommends Komari before Rin1... Although I actually got Rin1 on my first (without a guide) play through. I usually like to play without a guide first. It doesn't seem to give out spoilers... You can't really figure out what the decisions mean without the context anyways.
  13. I actually live in the metroplex, so I would actually only need to drive and come home if I want to do that each time. Money... is another thing. I'll check out their forums. Thanks.
  14. I've never been to a con before the the closest one to me is A-Kon in Dallas, Texas. I had actually planned on going after I could drive and graduated from high school or something. Anyone been to A-Kon that can give me their opinion of it?
  15. So I still have to finish Ever17... I managed to get Tsugumi's good ending somehow so I must have done something right (without a guide too!). I heard Sora's was the worst though. As for light novels, have you read Sword Art Online?
  16. I thought that the demo was just showcasing the number of powers available, but if you do happen to have all of them at the same time, it does feel like you're overpowered(some are ammo or mana based though). Although, if there are boss fights, none of that might matter... not too sure.
  17. I actually was able to play Dishonored at Quakecon 2012, and it was pretty interesting. There were tons of options for approaching the enemies, from stealth to just teleporting around and rambo-ing. Seeing as I was only there for a bit, the controls seem to fit the console(the demo they had was XBox 360) more than the PC(I'm assuming there's a PC release). Interesting enough, the guy at the booth said that if you're not gonna buy it, at least pirate it. I might actually do that if I had enough space to begin with.
  18. What was your first visual novel and which one is your favorite? For the most part, we're all pretty friendly, and the IRC chatroom is pretty lively sometimes.
  19. Either way, I wouldn't bother with them. They're the group of people that are very hard to convince unless a friend were to convince them otherwise. I think I had a friend who had this mentality before. While they buy out fan translations, I consider this an official release, because the original company recognizes and allows the English translation/release . If more games were selected and put out by JAST (come on Steins;Gate, where are you? didn't your fan translation get bought out!?), this would be amazing. Especially if there was one from their library of games put up on Steam... Steins;Gate would be a good candidate when it actually gets released. There are a few visual novels that could do this, and I have a feeling that it's easy to remove because they were just forced to put it in. Whether or not the original producer/publisher is okay with this is up in the air. If there are good games with official English translations with H-Scenes that could be removed, that would be great. I'm not saying that the visuals are the most important thing to a visual novel. When a visual novel gets put up somewhere and there's a gallery, and that gallery is really gonna show the art. Me personally? I'd find it strange for someone to pick a story for just art and not the story though. The problem is convincing them in a few words (It better be a darn good summary) to make them want to play (and pay, there's no humble bundle-style pricing) for the story in that case. To begin with, this was only because some people were mentioning that Higurashi's art was awful. The first two are far more important. I have never read Kira Kira, but in that case, I find it odd that they would not have tried to put that one on Greenlight, as some other people have said. Analogue was fairly good IMO. It would be nice if we could see how much that sold on Steam.
  20. Sounds like deliberate trolling to me. I wouldn't even take those comments seriously(in fact, I laugh at them). There are 74 pages and those are like, the first 5 you found? Doesn't seem that bad. If you want a genuinely good comment, you should post your own, and get more people to post about it(since I didn't even know that they tried to put it on Greenlight). However, reading the first 5 or so pages, it seems most people are complaining that it's the Mangagamer version, which is an entirely different problem from trolling/ignorant comments(and ignorant people will pretty much remain ignorant, unless they're "directly" dealt with... hard enough to get some of my friends to look into anime/visual novels). Little Busters! and Steins;Gate are obviously impossible suggestions, and I don't think I should have to explain why. F/SN Realta Nua is pretty much the same. There are like, three criteria for an actual good suggestion: 1: There must be an official translation. This way, that "developer" might actually have a chance to be allowed to have it published on Steam. Not to mention that $100 "fee" to have it posted... Higurashi does actually manage to fit this. Go Go Nippon... well, that's like, 4 hours long? and I doubt that many will be satisfied with that. 2: Must not have any sex in it. Steam seems to be firm in their stance on this. There's a thread that tried to appeal, but I don't think it'll get far. I'd post it here if I knew where it was. I realize that the above suggestions actually are all-ages though. 3: A majority of the people seem to think that there needs to be good art, or even displayed at a modern resolution/aspect ratio, for it to ever be appealing to anyone on Steam. Steins;Gate is actually the closest to fit all of these visual aspects. That's not saying that LB!/FSN looks bad or anything though. My library and knowledge of visual novels is pretty bad compared to most people, but I don't think there are many that can fit those criteria. Greenlight is likely to be a dead end for anything that is a visual novel that people attempt to upload. And then there's are problems with Greenlight itself.
  21. TheWingless screams like the Kyoto Animation/Key/Jun Maeda fanboy he is. I mean, it's expected. the only problem I have with it is that the blu rays aren't really 720p. Have you not watched Clannad or do you not feel it's up to par with Angel Beats! and Air?
  22. This is gonna be a slight edit (and modification of formatting) of a post I had written up for something else... It's partially a recommendation list I gave to my friends. Watching: Little Busters!: Seriously, Jun Maeda is a genius. Anyone that watched Air, Kanon, Clannad, and Angel Beats! obviously should watch this. I am watching this despite JC Staff doing it because I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Not to mention I read the visual novel. Shin Sekai Yori: I saw a preview video and it "looked" like a good amount of budget was put into it. Also, the story(based on a novel too) appeals to me. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: Made by Kyoto Animation(Hyouka, Haruhi, Lucky Star, Nichijou, Clannad, Air, Kanon), and I've liked everything from them that I have watched so far. The only series I've yet to watch from them are FMP! and Munto. PSYCHO-PASS: Urobuchi Gen wrote this. That is all. ROBOTICS;NOTES: Watched STEINS;GATE and CHAOS;HEAD before so why not? Of course, I didn't hear such great things about the visual novel but w/e. Technically could be under my sequels obligation instead. Sequels: Jormungand PERFECT ORDER: Just because. It's honestly nothing special. Watch it if you like really weird characters and gun fights. Hayate no Gotoku! I Can't Take My Eyes Off You: One of the few manga I actually read, only this time it's an original story. I would never want to miss this series. As a side note, I find it odd that some people are hating on the character designs when they seem closer than ever compared to the other seasons. Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb: Probably my favorite slice of life series done by none other than Shaft. There is nothing more relaxing than an episode of wideface. K-ON!, Lucky Star!, etc need to take a hint (at least the slice of life aspect) from this series lululul. Bakuman. 3: Nothing special. Got absorbed into the manga once. Honestly, the anime is dead slow, but I'll watch it. Medaka Box Abnormal: Okay series, hope it gets to the more interesting parts of the manga that I heard about. Seitokai no Ichizon: A good watch to waste time. Interesting enough. Maybe he'll finally get a harem. Maybe: Zetsuen no Tempest: Well it's Bones and it sounds a little interesting. K: I believe this was the show people were saying would be like Guilty Crown because of the amount of budget and great voice actors in it. CODE: BREAKER: My cousin told me to watch this. Maybe I will. Count 'em. 14 anime series. 16 if you include Sword Art Online and Muv Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse from last season which are the only 2 cour anime I was watching that started last season. Only Fall season manages to make me watch so much anime I believe.
  23. Out of the 200 anime I've watched, only 4 have made it to where I can say that they're anime I really like, interest me, or make me really think. My list/profile on MAL reflects this. Two of which were aired pretty recently... Most of my anime do not come from beyond 2006 unfortunately. I'm still a fairly young watcher. Here they are (not in any particular order): Clannad: The standard dem feels/I cried to this anime. The theme of family is too strong in this one. Not to mention the "hoops" (haha) Tomoya had to go through to get to where he is... Haruhi Series (Especially the movie): While not particularly deep, I find the characters and their interactions fairly interesting. Kyon's monologues are always a delight to hear. The music, art, and animation are great as usual. It's odd to say that Haruhi was the anime that made me realize that I am but 1 out of billions of people. This would be my second Kyoto Animation anime, after Lucky Star. Needless to say, the movie only enhances my feelings about the series as a whole. Hyouka: Typical Kyoto Animation. Good art, good animation, good music, good adaptation of a written work (as far as I can tell). It fully explains a mystery quite well and the presentation is wonderful(great work by a director who doesn't have any prior experience from looking at his list). Not only that, the character interaction and the motivation behind each mystery/"crime" committed is always interesting to see and discover. The characters, Oreki, Chitanda, Mayaka, and Satoshi are always going someplace in their development due to the mysteries that makes it really interesting. It's a darn shame that it ended. Kokoro Connect: I don't care if the drama is forced or not, but it absolutely meshes well with the characters. The characters may have some extreme personality/personal issues, but not to the point where they can be considered unrealistic. The dialogue, interaction, comedy, psychology and philosophy of some of the characters, and even some of the camera work manage to make each episode interesting. I also really really like these anime: Time of Eve(Movie), Steins;Gate, and Mawaru Penguindrum. Gee, like 3 of them have been animated by Kyoto Animation and the 4th was worked on by a few Kyoto Animation staff.
  24. Well even though you guys are already coding a new one... Just gonna report a bug with the current one. A recent change in the browse page seems to have made navigating to previous pages unable to work, and results in this error: "An Error Was Encountered The URI you submitted has disallowed characters." This only occurs if one of these "sort by" are clicked: " sort by name | sort by translated date | sort by release EGS score ". The default browse does not have this bug.
