  1. Looking forward to playing these games, but I have some questions. So, as I understand it, this is the order the games were originally released: Prelude to the Fallen, Mask of Deception, Mask of Truth. But in America they were localized and released in this order: Mask of Deception, Mask of Truth, Prelude to the Fallen. What's the best order the approach the series? Go 1,2,3 or the localized order of 2,3,1? Does it matter? Also, is there any transferring of save files across games, and will I screw things up if I play across multiple platforms? (For instance, I have the "Mask" games on Vita but was looking at getting Prelude on Steam). Thanks!
  2. I prefer my romances peppered into a larger narrative. For instance, the blossoming romance in was really adorable and endearing. Now, a game that's straight up "high school romance" as a main plot I think I'd have difficulty with. And I'm surely not a member of the target audience, being twice the age of a high school senior.
  3. Necro-bump, but this could to helpful to anyone who finds it. I spent ages trying to get this to work with little luck. Used different emulators, burned discs, virtual drives, and so forth to no avail. Finally got it running with these simple steps: - Place a copy of the game disc in your CD-ROM (or DVD-ROM) drive. I have a retail copy, but a burned copy should work. - Download and install MagicEngine FX. I recommend forking over the cash for the full version. - Download the translation from romhacking.net. - Place the .ppf file in the MagicEngine FX folder. - Open MagicEngine FX, "reset" the system, and the game should then boot in English.
  4. Oh wow, that's out already?!?! I'm a big Ys fan, but felt disappointed by VIII so I stopped following the series. I'll have to check this new one out (eventually).
  5. Yeah they did the whole "Alucard" thing there. Said foreshadowing isn't going to be what you expect (or, at least it wasn't what I expected). Even if you wind up thinking the original Muv-Luv is just so-so, make sure you play Alternative. Absolutely mind-meltingly good.
  6. When I'm actually playing a VN...... One to two hours a day. At night, once the kids are in bed. On average I try to get through one or two VNs a month.
  7. Generally yes, I have maybe an hour or two a night to squeeze in some gaming or VN time, and I want to make sure I'm doing things "correctly." That said, I wish I knew in advance what games really "required" the use of a walkthrough. Somewhat recently played through Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative -- used walkthroughs for both and sorta wish I hadn't, as the immersion was broken a bit each time I looked down at the guide(s). In any event, I'm happy that kinetic VNs exist because sometimes I just want a breezy distraction-free read.
  8. Those PC-98 graphics are so stunning. I'm not sold on the plot, but the visuals alone sell this.
  9. Hi everyone, I'm a man in my late 30s, with two children. Always loved classic video games, got bitten by the visual novel bug recently. Decided to check out this forum after finishing Muv-Luv Alternative, which was incredible. Have a great day, folks.
