    Fairly open I guess?
If I can be open to Japanese protagonists why wouldn't I be open to black protagonists mind?

OdaNova reacted to Dreamysyu in Why Don't More People Read Visual Novels? - A Short Video Analysis
I personally think that VNs right now are in a sense stuck in a cursed loop. VNs as a medium just really lack variety and as a result appeal to a small number of people. Even most all-ages titles follow the same story structure: even in non-adult titles a male protagonist always has to be surrounded by a lot of female love interests; it almost always has to take place in high-school; even in plot-focused stories there are a lot of slice-of-life scenes, which aren't even well written, and mostly just serve as a way to stall the story for some time rather than developing the characters; finally, the personalities of the protagonist, the heroines and even the side characters typically just follow certain well-known archetypes. So, if you just happen not to enjoy some of these titles and just want to find something more unique, you're much better off watching some anime or reading a manga. Otome games are a bit different, but, from my limited experience with them, they seem to have a bag of different, though slightly similar, problems. There are indeed some unique and experimental VNs that do things differently, but most of these are doujin titles and don't get that much exposure. Most of them aren't even that good, since good authors are likely to join some company at some point and start making a lot more standard VNs, or leave the medium altogether. Also, we, the current VN fans, enjoy these tropes to at lest to some extend, and a lot of us actually prefer them. As a result, in a short run it's not a very good strategy for companies to experiment with story structures, since they don't know if the fans would like these changes, and they just stick to the strategy that worked thus far. And VNs are also expensive to make, so they don't allow for much flexibility. Nowadays, manga and light novel authors don't even have to make any initial investment at all, since they just can start posting their stories online and see how people react to them, or even completely stick to episodic online distribution. In case of VNs, even a single financially unsuccessful product can make a whole company go bankrupt.
I personally think that if VNs somehow let this loop, there's a good chance that they would start appeal to a bigger number of people. They probably wouldn't be the same people as the current VN fans. Will they ever do that? I doubt it, but I don't know. EVNs might actually lead to something interesting at some point, who knows?

I'm reading The House in Fata Morgana and I think it's been excellent so far. The music has been superb as well. I'm at, chapter five, where we're starting to get some answers. I'm not doing a very good job predicting how the plot is going though... I've come close at times but the plot twists always seem to one-up my guesses.
Anyway, it's great, I can't put it down at the moment.

OdaNova reacted to KingDragoYT in To All VN Licensors and Publishers - Why We Want R18 Patches For Our Games
We don't want the r18 patches purely because we want to jerk ourselves off to the H-scenes. We don't want to see censoring just because we want to get off on the CG's. We just want the full experience. Remember the purpose in why your licensing these titles. To give us, the western audience, the same experience the locals are getting. To share the full experience with us so we can connect with the local counterparts and bond with them over these titles. And I can assure you friendship had been born because of this. But censoring and cutting out parts of the game isn't going to achieve that. Remember there are always r18 versions and all age versions available for the local (Japanese) community/market, so why not for us too. I'm talking to you MoeNovels. To you SakuraGames. To you Fruitbat Factory.

From now on when I mention r18 ver of the game, i mean a fully untouched game, only translated, not censored, with nothing cut out.
Hey MoeNovels, Give us the FULL version of the It My Heart Had Wings Series and A Sky Full of Stars, with H-scenes and all the stuff you cut out. Nothing changed, nothing added, nothing cut out, just translated with quality into English. That's all we ask. You can keep satisfying Steam with your censored stuff like the ones you're doing now, but please. And I really beg of you. Please release a r18 ver of it.

Hey Fruitbat Factory, Please. Please give us a full version. A r18 version. A non edited, non censored, pure original version just translated with quality into English, of The Princess, The Stray Cat and The Matters of the Heart. A game that's fan service centered and filled with H-scenes should not be censored and given to the West like this. It's like serving a spaghetti without the pasta. It just doesn't work. Or at least do what you did with Eiyuu Senki and hand the censored, cutted out stuff and H-scenes and everything to another company. Please I beg of you. This is an extremely good title. Don't mess it up. Again it's fine if you want to make a censored game, but at least give us an option to experience to fill version of the game. The full experience.
I beg of you. There are many good titles that have been picked up from you guys. You can still fix them. There are also titles yet to be picked up. Don't make the same mistakes you've done and give us, the audience, the consumers, what we really want. I can say for a fact that we are loyal to the medium, but we are not fools as well. We know when the consume and when not to. You don't need to change stuff and add things. Just keep it untouched and do good translations. By all means am I not belittling how hard it is in this industry but please. Make it right.

So, here I was, playing Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai and I couldn't help but notice but man, these kiss scenes are pretty shit. I mean look at these two examples distance and attack of the horror mannequin
Why can't this artist put the lips together, is it really so hard?
Anyway, this bothered me because to me at least, a kiss scene is often the best moment of a Visual Novel, especially after a really long common route.
So, mini rant aside I was wondering what your favorite or best kiss scene in a Visual Novel was. Tell me.
I think my two favorites are the kiss scene in G Senjou No Maou when they are under the moon and the kiss scene in Lucia's route in Rewrite when they are both overlooking the city.

I don't think you can pin down the piracy issue to a single reason, it's a combination of multiple ones.
    There are general problems:
-The demographic most of the VNs are aimed at is one of course, young poeple tend to have less money.
-the negative reception towards VNs (some people don't want other to know they're playing them and thus don't want them standing on their Shelves or their Steam account)
-an oversaturated market in some subgenres
-a lot of trash- or low-effort-VNs release alongside the good ones
-sometimes translations of a low quality which aren't seen as being worth the money
There are also issues depending on the country:
    -legal risks
    -average-wage-price-ratio
-avaiability (because one of the upper 2 or credit cards being not as far spread which locks you out of many stores)

These are kind of two separate issues though? In Poland, I was actually raised in the culture of piracy. A lot of the games I played as a kid were bought in bundles on a shady electronics bazaar in Warsaw. Because that was the cheap and convenient way of getting games (and relatively safe, as people selling those CDs were physically distributing them in that one place, usually for long periods of time – they had no incentives to spread malware). Years later, when I got a decent internet connection and access to Steam, I quickly stopped even considering pirating games – it was simply way more convenient to buy them on Steam sales and have all the perks connected to having stuff there. If I was poorer, it could've been different... But I'm pretty broke nowadays and it's still the same – if I would pirate anything, it'd definitely be a game that's not available on Steam, meaning it's not something I could hope to get on a deep sale and add to my convenient, virtual library.
So, while I think the cancer of culturally-accepted piracy in VN community is real, the convenience of it is extremely important. I'll even add a shameful personal experience – when I watched the School Days anime and wanted to try out the game, before I really got into VNs, I found it on JAST for what I then considered a ridiculous price for a decade-old adventure game. After that it took me like two minutes to find a free, malware-free download for it, even though I didn't pirate anything for like 8 years. So, there's literally no knowledge or skill involved in pirating eroge.

I would assume it has to do with so many VN fans having started before there were a decent amount of officially translated VNs and because of this a culture of piracy has been established and lots of newer people getting into it getting advice from these people. Also one thing I think has somewhat of an effect is newer people asking for recommendations getting recommended things that only has a fanpatch thus starting of pirating which just makes it much easier for them to continue doing so.
Also due to the length of VNs I think people who pirtate are unlikely to buy something they enjoy. For instance with anime since so many of them are rather short it is possible for people to watch a ton of anime through piracy and then among their favorites pick out which to buy on blu-ray or by merchendise. With the length of a VN it is unlikely that people would want to reread it and a digital download is not as enticing as a physical product like a blu-ray for instance and then for the physical versions of VNs many people don't want to import them either because they don't want physical 18+ stuff or are scared because loli character or semi loli characters being taken as illegal material.
