  1. Correction. Ever17's director worked on Root Double. Uchikoshi was off working on Zero Escape by that point.
  2. The kicker is that Root Double's actual writing and story is really good, but the SSS system is such a mess that it repeals people >>
  3. I agree with the sentiment on Root Double. It's one of those situations where you can clearly tell the wanted to do something cool and interesting, but the reason people stick to a choice system is because trying to get funky tends to fail. The obvious desire is to create a more diverse system of choices, but until we create free thinking AI, the choice will always be binary.
  4. Speaking as a representative of the country, I honestly don't know how to respond....
  5. The thing I find weird is that You and Sara's routes are quite different with their own revelations and story trajectories. I can only assume Sora's route exists solely to give some symmetry to Takeshi's side in terms of route structure.
  6. So, this is something that has irked me for a while, but what exactly is the demand regarding "genre separation"? I genuinely tried to have a fairly diverse set of genres on display.
  7. So, as a general statement, I'm reading Muv Luv Alternative, Dies Irae, The House in Fata Morgana, Grisaia, Kara no Shojo and Swan Song. Yes, I'm reading six different works.
  8. Oh boy, Sora's route...a warning, it is easily the worst part of the game.
  9. Because SJWs just speak in a vacuum and the vast majority of people don't listen to them?
  10. So, I looked Rapelay up and YIKES. I can see why that happened. And people wonder why I'm hesitant to introduce Rance to people... Thing is, though, people have a very reactionary response to these sort of things, and a rape nukige is something that'll raise a thousand eyebrows. None of the works bar arguably Nukitashi are even built on sex.
  11. But this article doesn't have that sort of stuff, both because of my rules against nukige and because of sheer extremity of content. As for the argument of people still going in and seeing some disturbing shit...that's why there's content warnings. If you freak out over content when there's a big fat content warning, that's your own damn fault. And what's "The rapelay incident"?
  12. Oh, so you're just afraid of SJWs. In which case, friend, don't. It's not worth your time.
  13. Then what are you trying to say? Because I really see no other way to interpret what you said.
  14. When people make those sort of arguments, I just recall that infamous DDLC copypasta. You know the one.
  15. "This medium deserves to be niche and it's wrong to try getting more people in!" That the hill you're going to die on?
  16. Utaware might have worked...though it was one of the works which completely slipped my mind while constructing. Whoops.
  17. While I'm not going to get into Moege or the exact nature of "Genre separation", what RPG hybrid could I even logically recommend? Rance I wouldn't because the sense of humor of the series and the character in general is something many would find extremely off-putting and tasteless, not to mention it's very difficult to get the full story in sequence. Eushully is difficult to find information for online, and it's doubtful the games would ever be localized due to the companies open distaste with the West. And I fail to think of any others which would appeal to any JRPG fans that would be somehow better experiences than the likes of Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI and the Kiseki series.
  18. Last paragraph of the Why You Should Read. FYI, for those confused, my policy is to treat sequels which were planned when the original was released as an extension of the original work. Kodaka has said on multiple occasions this was never the case for DR, so ergo V3 is counted separately.
  19. You realize I explicitly said people need to go through the first two games first?
  20. BTW people, don't try to bring up some ultra-obscure work which is apparently better than the things on the list. I honestly don't care.
  21. Yaginuma has a larger role in KnS. He also gets a backstory, and it makes him a MUCH more interesting character. Agreed on the pointlessness of the other endings. I feel the story would've been much stronger had they been excised, since they add nothing to the mystery and seem like just an excuse to insert H-Scenes.
  22. Ooo boy, it took me a day to mull over a lot of what you said, but I think I can finally give some responses: 1: Ah yes, the length matter. Well, let me put it like this, would be "better" if it was a deliberately short and rushed article that misrepresented the works in question? And, if the list were shorter, I'd be catching even more flak for excluding certain works. 2. The currently unreleased/untranslated material is to entice people to support the works when they do get localisations. As for length and beginners...I do assume most who're reading to have at least read DDLC, so I assume they have at least some idea of how the medium works. 3. I didn't recommend them for that exact reason, Fate is simply too well known, while most Sci;Adv fans consider C;C to be better than S;G and Clannad's sheer length and extremely dated presentation I feel wouldn't fit (When They Cry I will admit I forgot about). Also, I find it odd that you critique me for including very long works on the list...then suggest works longer than the majority on the list. 4. As I said, I have zero interest in moege, and I struggle to really find a pitch that actually comes off as appealing. And gameplay eroge I simply feel doesn't feel like VNs as I see them. 5. You seem to contradict yourself. You critique me for not recognizing earlier efforts on the PC-98...then admit there's very little chance I could know of them or read them. Was I perhaps too harsh in dismissing the majority of the medium pre-1996? Maybe, but I have relatively little evidence that I'm incorrect, or that YU-NO wasn't a major turning point in the medium. 6: Your personal feelings on YU-NO, all of which are subjective and from what I can gather quite unpopular. Also, I struggle to see how some of those apply to the remake, which I'm pretty obviously recommending for hopefully obvious reasons. 7. Yes, I admit I'm not the most qualified, but, if no one is willing to stand up and do it themselves, I feel I might as well do it.
