alpacaman reacted to solidbatman in KEY is holding a character popularity poll that ends on September 12. You can only vote for ONE character a day from all KEY's history, so choose wisely.
Oooh this is a tough one. Despite their narrative problems, Key generally has done well to craft some good characters even if their character arcs left something to be desired. I think I'd have to go for Nagisa just because not enough VNs carry the high school romances into adulthood and show the challenges of a new couple starting out, but she is such a good anchor for After Story and perfect for giving a measure of agency and realism to the issues that plague our MC while also maintaining herself as a strong character in her own right, even if she does become a little plot "devicey" by the end.

Microwave ovens emit microwaves at a frequency that makes water molecules rotate, adding kinetic energy and heating the water in the food, which in turn heats the rest of the dish (because thermal energy is basically kinetic energy on a microscopic scale).
If the plate gets hot it's because it got microscopic scratches which small amounts of water can flow into. Ceramic itself is practically transparent to the microwaves, meaning it doesn't absorb any energy from the microwaves and doesn't get heated directly. The food itself not heating up properly has to do with the microwaves not reaching far beyond the surface of the dish so most of the heat gets distributed around the edges.

VNs actually offer a lot in terms of what the creators can do that isn't really possible in other media. They can use the similar literary devices as in plays while having the possibility for a first person narrator, passages in prose and a branching narrative, while keeping full control over the visuals, soundtrack and acting choices and without having the same time restrictions which offers more options when it comes to story structure and pacing.

Talking about heresy, a while ago ago I saw someone on the street who tugged his sweatpants into the white tennis socks he wore with sandals.

Yeah, that's also possible. Then again German doesn't really have fixed rules when it comes to the grammatical gender of foreign words. Speaking about the title, what is "the definitely unauthorized parody" supposed to mean? Who could have authorized this game? Is Hitler still alive somewhere in South America ?

My venture into 80s Japanese pop led me into a different direction, namely to Jun Togawa, probably most famous for her song Suki Suki Daisuki, which became kind of a meme a few years ago. The subtitles in the thumbnail might give you hint as to why.
The rest of her output isn't any less weird. To give a few examples:
I love everything about this music video, be it the silent 30 second intro, her stage costume and especially the awkward scene filmed from the view of the insect man. And speaking of Japanese artists attempting English lyrics:

To make a tomato sauce with fresh tomatoes you need certain types of tomatoes like San Marzano (and they should be of good quality). If you're not able to get them even the Italian recipe books I own recommend passata/canned tomatoes. Also the most important lesson I learned from Italian cuisine it's that everything tastes great if you mix it with enough olive oil and garlic.

I thought the saying goes "comparing tomatoes and cucumbers". There is no point to it. Anyways, I prefer both when they've been processed in some way. Cucumbers should be pickled, and there are even varieties you can make stew out of (which tastes surprisingly good).

There was a big Babymetal hype in the hipster music community when their second album came out, with it reaching No. 15 in the UK charts and even the serious magazines like Der Spiegel writing reviews.

Abhorrent might be a bit of an overstatement I mean, there is stuff like Schwarzesmarken where I had to read the synopsis to figure out what the title was even supposed to mean although it's apparently in my native language.
To add something to the original topic, the premise sounds like one of those "entrapped group of people" stories with supernatural overtones that have the potential to be anything from outright amazing to total trainwrecks.

The common use of "Dei Gratia" is as an ablative case, meaning "by God's grace" and was added to the royal title of kings to specify that they weren't subject to earthly jurisdiction. The nominative is identical to the ablative case so technically you could translate the phrase the way you did. Then again, in Latin in this sentence you would use the genitive case so it would turn into "Dei Gratiae". This is probably just me being too much of a Latin nerd, but the ones choosing the title for the OP seemed to be aware of the problem as well, as they translated the title as "Dei Gratia in the 5th Day". That doesn't make much more sense than the title I'm complaining about, but at least it avoids the problem of having to connect the "Compass" with "Dei Gratia" in a way that makes grammatic sense.

Huh. I forgot to post about it, but I finished Hate Plus.
What can I say, @Mr Poltroon was right. That's hella good. Better than the first game. It was interesting how screwed-up things that led to the first game were.
Also played the two LoveKami games on Steam.

Or else you can always search rateyourmusic.com (basically vndb for music) by making custom charts. Here is one I made listing the best rated (non classical, non soundtrack) 80s albums by artists from Japan. Elvis Costello seems to be living in Japan right now, so his albums are in there as well, but there are still more than enough interesting artists. Right now I'm listening to this, which sounds like Scary Monsters David Bowie made an album together with Kraftwerk while on a very bad trip:

I think people have just grown tired of toxic political discussions and want to avoid them at least in the areas they engage in in their free time. Discussions about lolis and violence porn are one of the largest minefields in that regard as everyone has strong opinions on these topics while very are few are even able to properly distinguish between pedophilia and child abuse (hint: the vast majority of child abusers aren't actual pedophiles and it's mostly about power and not physical attraction, which is why I think Plk_Lesiak's point about the context and portrayal of the porn being the bigger issue than the ages of the ones depicted is pretty important).

I'll just add from myself, as I have some knowledge on porn studies in social science, it's extremely hard to make a reliable study on porn consumers in general, and even harder when it goes to niches. I don't think any study in existance would fully apply to the kind of extreme porn Japanese eroge industry casually produces and how it influences people. Also, porn definitely leaves an effect on people's sexual instincts and that is way more likely to have deep repercussions than the abstract movie or video game violence.
I'd say it's pretty safe to say that influence of extreme porn on people is an open question. Same goes for loli stuff. It won't have that much of a negative effect for most, especially if they consume it in reasonable amounts, but saying these don't reproduce really problematic tropes and encourages sexual gratification from questionable stimuli is sugarcoating it at best...

I know that everything you do is political. I'm just saying that most people here disagree with you about how far reaching the political dimension of using this forum for their enjoyment is, even the ones who agree with you when it comes to the dangers of certain content created or promoted by other users.

Uuuh, and now you kind of lost me. It's not like the core issue with all that content is making 17-years old girls looking fuckable. Paedophiles don't fantasize about late teenagers or sneak up to high schools. It's the actual portrayals and sexist/abusive tropes that are an issue. The fixation on "age" of the characters over nature of the story and context in which they are placed kind of makes my blood boil.
Maybe that's the issue though? It's hard to draw the line without rejecting things that don't deserve it. Like with Expression: Armilato getting rejected by Steam, as anime schoolgirls are by definition iffy, even if the game is extremely tame...
...this is why focusing on EVNs is so much easier too. All this disturbing crap is so rarer there.
