  1. My schedule for 2023 is now full—please wait warmly for 2024! If you would like my services starting in 2024, please still feel free to contact me and we can discuss it. Full Portfolio | Website | Twitter Hello! I am papaya. I've worked on titles like soundless - A MODERN SALEM IN REMOTE AREA -, Who Is The Red Queen?, Three Lilies and Their Ghost Stories, and Lachesis v Atropos. I am offering my services primarily as a character and CG illustrator, but I am also making an experimental foray into background work. I also offer personal commissions, but this post isn't for that. I am seeking paid positions for visual novel projects (or game/hybrid projects, if you're in need of sprites/CGs/static backgrounds). I am available for smaller projects prior to April and am available for more work after August. For my background work in particular, I can only do work for projects with a maximum of 3 backgrounds at this time. Quick rundown of my price estimates (final prices are negotiated): Around $80~$110 USD for a half-body sprite (per pose) Around $155~$185 USD for a full-body sprite (per pose) Around $220~$360 USD for an event CG Around $70~$90 USD for a cut-in graphic (can be further variable depending on the size of the cut-in "panel"; please note that "panels" intended to combine into a full event CG that covers the screen will be priced like one) Around $350~$500 USD for a background primarily featuring structures (such as cities, building interior/exteriors, etc) Around $250~$400 USD for a background primarily featuring nature (such as forests, plains, mountains) Payment is upfront. If you are interested, please view this document for more details. Sprite Example CG Example BG Example You can see more examples of my work in this document. Capable of portraying: Complex designs Spicy things Any pairings (GxG, GxB, BxG, BxB) Fight scenes I will not do: Lolishota Incest Underage characters in sexual situations Explicit depictions of rape Offensive projects
  2. Itch.io Page | Release Devlog (contains known issues) Hi Fuwanovel! This is papaya from milk+ visual. We just released a brand new short yuri VN! Three Lilies and Their Ghost stories is a kinetic yuri visual novel, featuring three distinct stories surrounding ghosts and lesbian relationships. A romance set in 90s rural China; a horror set in 2010s suburban America; a sci-fi thriller set on a fictional 2030s floating island—one after another, witness three stories and see how thin the line separating us from the afterlife truly is. With only ~30k words total, ~10k per story, Three Lilies is a free, short title you can take on in an afternoon, with active presentation inspired by the enshutsu in Mahoyo and Tsukire. While this is nowhere near as heavy as our first title Soundless, there are still content warnings for things like suicide from a height, familial death, bullying, vomiting, suggestive content, animal death, discussions of terminal illness (cancer) and climate change speculation. Player discretion is advised. Full Summary As long as humans exist, so will their ghosts. Three different areas, three different decades, three different tales. Join our lesbian protagonists on their supernatural adventures—and witness how thin the line separating us from the afterlife truly is. Lily of the Countryside During the ‘90s rural migration in China, rumors spread of an "inescapable" abandoned village on one of the Shengsi Islands. A young woman named Song Anna decides to hunt this village down, but during her hike she stumbles and falls into thick fog. When she comes to, Song Anna finds herself in the village...and she’s not alone. Lily of the Suburb One Halloween night in 2010s United States, Aayla and Najwa, two college students in a relationship, receive a call from Aayla’s little sister Deja asking for them to pick her up from a party. They’re roped into dropping off two of Deja’s friends, one of which seems oddly tense. On their way to their first stop, they get lost in the neighborhood, and soon find themselves in an empty copy... Lily of the City In the 2030s, the United Nations contracts a tech company to build floating cities for displaced climate refugees, which become infamous for their "survivor lottery" systems. One such city floating in the Atlantic Ocean suddenly experiences an unusual power outage. Two plant maintenance workers, Tara and Anzu, their third polycule member Kiran, and the Director of Island Operations go down to investigate, and what they find is... Features ~30k words, with around ~10k words per tale Highly active cinematic experience Accessibility features such as font choices, image and audio captions, screenshake disable, and a photosensitive mode Chapter select following the first clear of the game 9 anime-style CGs and a gallery that allows you to view CGs, backgrounds, and cut-ins. 3. Itch.io Page | Official Site | Donation Drive 10/6-10/13 Information Hello Fuwanovel! This is papaya from milk+ visual. While Soundless has been mentioned a few times on this site, there was never a thread for it, so that is now being remedied. We have recently released the 5th anniversary definitive edition, Final Verse. This release contains things like an additional afterstory, a larger resolution, an opening cutscene, a violent imagery toggle, accessibility features, and more! We are also running a Hurricane Fiona & Typhoon Noru donation drive with thank-you gifts at milestones, so please check out the blog post about it and help us out! Soundless is a denpa yuri visual novel and milk+ visual's very first title, first released back in 2017. It is kinetic and surrounds a teenage girl who is the "cursed" pariah of an isolated cult, Mercy. One day, the Holy Maiden Auma approaches her and tells her that she, too, possesses cursed vision. And it only goes downhill from there. Soundless shouldn't be played by anyone who is sensitive to extreme bullying, abuse, and violence. The violent imagery toggle only hides images and doesn't cut out the violent scenes. Full Summary —Despite all the singing around her, her world was soundless. A small village cut off from the rest of the world, Phada, spends its days slowly, idling away time by speaking with one another, eating with one another, and dedicating all their attention to studying scripture. With a population of only 145, the governing body of the town is the Group, the name of the miniscule clergy that inhabits the church at the top of the hill. They worship a protective God comprised of two halves: the "Barrier" defensive energy and the "Expulsive" offensive energy. In a town where all you can do is socialize, young Mercy is denied this. Since birth, she has seen the unseen, and was taken in by the Group after losing her parents. Upon turning 10 her vision seemingly became corrupt, causing panic among the villagers. It was decided by the Head Priest and the Holy Woman that the only way to deal with this curse is to aggressively apply the "antibiotics." In other words, isolate Mercy until she stops seeing things. Now an empty shell of who she once was, 15 year old Mercy attends school and is constantly bullied by her classmates, some truly afraid of her, but most seeing her as an easy target. The sudden death of the 25th Holy Woman startles the village, causing many to believe Mercy's curse is spreading and for her abuse to become more aggressive. Then, one day, the Head Priest reveals God has given them two young Holy Women rather than one. When classes end the next day, one calls out to Mercy. "I can see it, too." Screenshots
  4. Hata recommended I post about this over at Fuwa, so here I am! I hope this is the right spot. If there is a better place, feel free to move it. In an effort to gather visual novel development resources into one comprehensive place, those of us over at the DevTalk Discord Server (link to invite) have started up a wiki! Aptly named the VN Dev Wiki (link), it is a very recent project and still very much in its infancy. At this time, not a whole lot of content has been created, and some articles require expansions and more image examples. If you can please help us out and maybe port some of your own guides and definitions over to the wiki, that would be great! There are two types of articles: the usual wiki article, and the more subjective "guide" article, both of which are covered in the Manual of Style (link). We also have a non-exhaustive Article Wishlist (link). Feel free to discuss contributions and ask questions on either the wiki talk pages themselves or in the #wiki-project channel in the DevTalk server. We hope you can help out!
  5. A lot of folks on the dev side of things are having collective strokes right now. Around this time last year, Steam told lots of developers and localization publishers alike that "what was okay" was 1. Proper age-gating for games with sexual content and 2. Censorship of genitalia. This is basically a complete 180. I wonder if this has anything to do with the Maidens of Micheal disaster? I've also seen some people say it might have something to do with supposedly new digital age restriction laws in Washington (the state where Valve is based), which doesn't quite add up - why would eroge and games like Huniepop get hit, but not Western(-style) AAA games that also have sexual/adult content like Witcher 3? It doesn't help that Valve has a weird way of managing things internally which is what results in all these inconsistencies and flip-flopping.
  6. I love thinking about sound design in visual novels. To keep this post short I'll just post my two favorites. I've always been fond of SubaHibi's "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus". Whenever this played when Ayana popped up I nodded and went "ah, it's Ayana-san". It feels more like "Subarashiki Hibi" than any other track in the OST to me for some reason. And then there's Narcissu's "Suppressed Lies". It really does feel like a song about suppressed lies. It weighs down on the heart and gives off a very lonely feeling, much like the rest of Narcissu.
  7. Woah! Hello! I was not expecting this many replies! Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone. I was a bit of a strange kid in middle school (before YMK I was a big fan of Yume Nikki; I don't think most middle schoolers have the patience to play a depressing walking simulator), so I guess you could say I'm an outlier. I was primarily attracted to it because it dealt with tough subjects, and the OST was beautiful. Though I have heard of other people having Yume Miru Kusuri as their first visual novel. Thank you! I still think your name is great. Isn't she? Even though she takes forever to talk, I still like listening to her lines because her voice is so cute. And that scene breaks my heart. It hurts even more if you've read what it's referencing...Night on the Galactic Railroad is pretty depressing for a children's book. Thank you! I'll be sure to get in touch when I've finally annihilated my backlog.
  8. Hello, My username says "poptartguy87", but you can call me Isla. I also go by Papaira when I'm acting as a developer/artist. Some people also call me "Papa", "Poptart", or more ambitiously "Poptart Papa". I'm from the United States. I have two cats and I really love horror, yuri, and Arjuna from Fate/Grand Order. I first got into visual novels when I read Yume Miru Kusuri and Ever17 in middle school and I've loved them ever since...to the point that I took Japanese in high school just so I could work my way up to helping with translation projects someday. My backlog is atrocious, by the way. I joined because I thought it wouldn't hurt to have an account ready for whenever I wanted to jump into discussions. I'm shy, so it probably won't happen often, but hey, why not. Nice to meet you all! (My favorite VN of all time is Subarashiki Hibi if you couldn't already tell. I think Zakuro is precious.)
