    Come on, I wasn't THAT harsh After comparing 18+ and all-ages version, I slightly preferred the latter, but, like I said in my mini-review, my "ideal" version would be +18, but with approximately half of the original scenes. At least for "main" heroines - Saya and Hikari. In these routes, some scenes disrupted the flow of the story for me, and it felt better, more coherent/smooth in translated version.
    Now, Korona's and Orihime's routes - which have different writer - were a little bland, feeling more like "side-routes". Probably they are relying on h-scenes more, to add some spice. And I must admit, CG from - if I remember correctly - beginning of first Korona's scene (foreplay standing by the window in the sunset), was absolutely beautiful.
    So, like I said before, I look forward to this project, but at the same time I encourage everyone to read the game as it is now, 'cause it's still good - unless one absolutely cannot stand lack of H-scenes.
     
    **another side note:
    In my "ideal" +18 version of Hikari's route I'd actually prefer the H-scenes to happen when they're implied in AA version - and these are, surprisingly, different from when the actual h-scenes in +18 version happen.
    Considering Saya's route, I really liked the idea of "not having all our firsts in one go" - so I'd actually prefer this first scene to stay this way, and let them go all the way sometime later.

    LOL Yuma. Yuma is excellent and hilarious :D. 
    I'd also submit Shinonome Satsuki from Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate, but you have to finish the VN at least once before you can get to her route.

    It's way too short like this for me to be interested in it, tbh. Maybe I'll buy it when all the parts are out. I'm not a fan of periodic releases as is. One where the parts are literally an hour each sounds pretty dumb for a visual novel.

    Nah, I bought first episode, but I think I'll wait until it's complete. I know, there are some VNs (mostly moeges) that are internally divided into anime-like "episodes" (Princess Evangile, Heart de Roommate, Koi iro Chu! Lips etc), but releasing each such episode as separate "game" is too much for me

    SubaHibi was a very peculiar case, as the "all ages" version was basically an extended demo (first 2 chapters) while the whole rest of the game was hidden behind a patch. Quite an absurd workaround on Frontwings part, but indeed, it's the kind of aberration that shouldn't happen under the new rules.
    TBH, I hope that we can keep both the reasonable all-ages releases and get games such as Saya no Uta or Kara no Shoujo on Steam, but it might quite likely be 2-3 years berore the situation stabilizes into some kind of clear pattern.

    I think this is the road most publishers will take, at least with the titles that were already released or prepared for release. With the straight-up ero games, like nukige or games with very drastic themes, they'll start making their way to Steam more often and go straight to the adult-only category. But with titles that might actually earn additional sales by offering all-ages option and having extra visibility to non-porn-oriented players, like most moege, I don't see a reason for publishers not to make the 18+ content optional. As long as they don't abuse the system (ex. Sekai holding 18+ for a large ransom), there's really no downsides to having more options.

    ??? I used it with the Steam version.
    There are two versions of patch - one is smaller, just the translation for JP version, and the other, bigger is retranslation for existing EN versions.
    They say that Steam version isn't officially supported, but it worked for me.

    I agree with the option being hidden God-knows-where, but if I remember well searches and clicking links to 18+ games give proper feedback ("we've hidden an n-number of games because of your search preferences"). There will be a significant transition period, but I'd expect A LOT of people having 18+ content turned on after its over. 
    Plus, it seems that all-ages + patch might still be a viable option, circumventing the "adult-only" categorization, but letting you place the 18+ patch as DLC directly on the platform. Less porn-centric VNs could still benefit from the full potential of Steam exposure, while the adult content DLC would be free to download for everyone interested without the current kind of cryptic BS.

    Dunno, perhaps I've grown cynical as I age - but I can see this backfiring in a rather painful and impactful fashion. I don't think any of us really needed or wanted 18+ on Steam.
    Though, on one hand - it would be a large boost in sales for publishers, having that extra coverage on such a well known platform (not to mention it might help bypass the bullshit MG etc have tradionally gone through with payment processors).
     
    But, this might be abit too much exposure - and no amount of age-gating on Steam will satisfy those with torches and pitchforks. All they'll need to do is exaggerate abit here - outright lie there, and the hyperbole will spur an ignorant mass media to jump in on the witch hunts~

    Hi.
    After reading Kazoku Keikaku I was taken aback by poor editing of the later part of the game. Thinking about re-editing it into something more readable, I tried to extract the scripts from the game. Unfortunately I ran into the wall pretty quickly.
    The only tool that was able to do anything was ArcTools. It recognizes ISF files, has even built-in template for Family Project. Unfortunately it was only able to decompile dialogue lines, omitting everything else (narration, character names over spoken lines etc etc). It produced a bunch of files with content like this:

    "AE VN Tools" is able only to extract files from main archive, but they stay in encoded form - its script module isn't working, so it cannot decompile scripts.
    On the AE page, I stumbled upon a pack of python scripts that are supposed to decompile and compile ISF scripts, and also convert them into Ren'py. Unfortunately - they crash

    You're being way too optimistic. Steam may have added a checkbox on the consumer side, but that doesn't mean anything until they actually publish a policy so developers and publishers can know what's allowed and what's not allowed (they haven't done this), and actually start applying said policy (they also aren't doing this). This isn't done until we start seeing the games we expect there getting published back to the platform. Maidens of St. Michael will probably be a good bellwether, since you can bet MG wants to get it back on there ASAP and is just waiting on Steam. If you see it on Steam, maybe there's some progress. If not, then everybody's almost certainly still stuck in this same crappy situation we've been in for the past half a year or so.
    Regardless, you certainly shouldn't get your hopes up for KonoSora or other Pulltop releases. I doubt they have any interest, on their own side, of releasing the full versions of their games, and even if they do, god only knows what quality we'll get with their translation agency roulette game.
    Lastly... this is all kind of irrelevant to the OP's topic! At least, it is unless you think having the uncensored versions available on Steam will make a big difference in sales or revenue, which I honestly kind of doubt.

    I finished YU-NO. It was totally amazing.
    The plot was great. Mind you, it's first "multiple route mystery" game that I've played, but I really enjoyed the story. I was going in order suggested in walkthrough (Mitsuki & Eriko -> Ayumi -> Mio -> Kaori -> Kanna) - which is actually the only one possible without horrendous amount of backtracking. It's awesome how the small pieces of information slowly form big picture. But then, it still all gets turned upside down in epilogue, with its many twists Also, the idea of integrating the route system itself into the story was brilliant.
    From main game, I think my favourite routes were Mio and Kanna, followed by Mitsuki/Eriko route. Then there's epilogue. Actually, calling it epilogue is understatement - it is longer than some routes. Maybe "True route" would be better word choice. It presents new settings, new characters, and - at least for me - it was great. I don't know if it was the source, or if writers had same inspirations, but first part of True Route, that is
    had very Clannad'ish vibe to me.
    Whole game also reminded me story-wise of some great western point&click adventures like Gabriel Knight, Beneath A Steel Sky or Broken Sword series.
    Now onto the presentation. I absolutely loved the looks of this game. I'm fan of art style used here (and in some other old VNs, like "Season of Sakura" or "Nocturnal Illusion" - basically, mid '90s anime style drawing), and it looks great - especially considering, that it was made using 16 color pallette. Both sprites and backgrounds are incredibly detailed, characters have blinking animations, they are nicely shaded - simply beautiful. I'd dare to say that it's one of the best looking VNs I played.
    Music is brilliant - unless you absolutely cannot stand FM synthesizer sounds. But I love it. I think that it gets even better in epilogue, which sports some of the best tunes in game.
    And then - voice acting. Brilliant too - and that shouldn't surprise, as there are some great actors at work here. Included among that cast are my two favourite voice actresses - Aya Hisakawa (probably best known as Sailor Mercury, or - for VN players - Haruko from AIR) and Kikuko Inoue (Belldandy from Oh! My Goddess anime and Sanae from Clannad). It's a pity that remake by 5pb doesn't have those voices - the cast is entirely new.
    English edition by TLWiki does great job. It's like "definitive edition" of the game, with added voice acting and additional (after-h) scenes from Sega Saturn port and HQ music from original PC-98 version. And it worked like a charm on my Win 7 laptop Translation itself is also very good - it rivals many good commercial releases. It reads very smoothly, and there were some pretty good attempts at translating some word-play jokes. I spotted only one obvious mistranslation - at one point, Takuya has to meet with one of the characters, and they agree on 22:00 (10PM), which for some reason got translated as "22 hours". Other than that - great job, it was really good to read.
    The game has one serious flaw - it's literally littered with blatant fanservice. Almost every CG features pantyshot, exquisite cleavage or both - even in most serious situations - sometimes it creates unwanted mood dissonance. On the other hand, h-scenes themselves aren't bad. There is one scene per heroine, they're rather short, and writers cared enough to give them some in-story justification Also, the after-scenes (AFAIK taken from console version, where they served as h-scenes replacements) are very good, with some nice dialogues showing connection and affection between characters - even though this isn't romance game.
    Point'n'click gameplay can sometimes get little tedious, but it's not a dealbreaker - especially with walkthrough .
    So final score - 8.5/10, totally recommended. (if aforementioned fanservice-induced-mood-dissonance doesn't bother you, you can even raise it to 9 )
    PS Kaori was a bitch Kanna best girl  (from main part, as epilogue turns everything on its head )
    That CG from Kanna's bonus happy end (unlocked after beating true route) is soooo sweet

    It seems to be the archetypal Steam moege with running a cafe and cute girls. I certainly know nothing about it.
