  1. I just finished Sora to Umi ga, Fureau Kanata (Adventure of Lifetime) today. It was good, despite being short. It took me just under 7 hours to complete both routes - but I skipped thru common route the second time. This is what you get, when you cut almost all SoL from moege It is pretty light hearted. Both girls and their routes are nice. There is some drama, but nothing heavy. Art and music is typical Pulltop - if you played Konosora or Miagete you'll feel right at home Translation is OK. As always, there are some awkward lines, but not too many. "Grandmama" for "Obaasama" (that's how Emily calls Machiko) is... umm... e-to... weird choice, reminding me somehow of "Asa-bat" from SakuSaku. Then there are some lines with missing words (mostly particles), but overall it reads OK. And that's definitely no machine translation, there had to be some humans involved It seems that the RNG gods that picked translation team for MoeNovel were feeling generous this time I thoroughly enjoyed it, so it gets 8 from me. Short, but fun. Now onto Snow Sakura.

  3. DS was one of the first VNs I read, and I remember enjoying it. If DC is - as you say - less worse , then maybe I should give it a try too.
  4. Yeah, I didn't like that too. Fortunately "only" MC (and his buddy) was affected - girls were speaking normally most of the time
  5. Dal Segno is good. I haven't read DC3 yet.
  6. I had similar experience while reading translated VNs, just the other way around. It is nice feeling when I am able to pick up more and more from spoken lines - and there are moments where heroine says something and I'm like "Ah! That's the thing I just learned about - now I get it".
  7. Yuuji ending is considered bad - it is in the walkthrough too.
  8. I posted this in "What are you playing" thread, but I think I should put it in game thread too: I finished To Heart 2 yesterday. It was great experience for me. I just had to get used to the interface (no separate textbox), but it went smoothly. It is "mother of moeges" (at least for translated ones ) - there were sooo many familiar things I recognized from later games I've read. I liked all routes - Yuma route felt somewhat weaker than the others for me, but it was still enjoyable, I just felt that in some places it didn't flow as smoothly as the rest. I can't decide on best girl - all were sweet.First route I read was Konomi - nice start, and good one to start with, as her route makes also most of the "common". Next was Tama-nee I thought she will be my best girl, but then other strong contenders appeared However, she still is somewhere around the top. Next onto Sasara. After reading some posts I was little afraid, but it actually was good too. I agree - the MC's stubborness was a little over the top, but I was (or probably still am) on similar levels of stupidity, so can't really complain Being scolded by Tama-nee (which she also did in Ruuko route) actually gave me some food for thought. And Sasara herself was sweet. Manaka - she probably is the MOEst of them all. Nice and sweet route, with some drama thrown in - very good. Yuma - the tsundere. Lots of funny moments, but later I feel there were some jumps in the story, therefore it is the weaker route for me - but still OK. "Don't think that means you have won!" Karin - nothing special, but nice. "Guess who?" Yuuki - this route took me somewhat by surprise - it was great. Yuuki was beautiful and nice, and her ending had some of the KeyMagicTM (it wouldn't feel out of place in "Little Busters"). Little short, but definitely one of the best routes for me. The Twins (Sango & Ruuri) - nice. Ending was... erm... interesting Ruuko - out-of-this-world setting , but very enjoyable route. Ruuko is easily one of the best girls in this game. "Ruu!" \o/ Art (characters and backgrounds) looks good. Music was very nice too. And the animated OP was amazing - it's pretty rare to see full animated scenes in VN OP instead of just character sprites with credits next to them and some effects. Translation was decent - there were some missing or redundant words here and there, but no game-breakers. Overall - 8/10 from me.

Now for what to read next, I have to decide between Adventure of Lifetime, Fureraba or Snow Sakura.
  10. MangaGamer version doesn't have +18 content in itself - it still requires retranslation patch. The difference is that the patch will surely work with it, while it may or may not work with Steam version. However I also have Steam version, and patch worked for me. Without patch it is almost unreadable because of poor translation.
  11. Others that come to mind (and I like them) : - KoiChoco - SakuSaku - NobleWorks - To Heart 2 - KonoSora (make sure to get retranslation patch!) - Miagete (currently only all-ages version is available in english, but I think it's worth reading) - Chrono Clock They aren't exactly drama-free, but are IMHO nice romance VNs. And if you liked DalSegno, you should be OK with them too (as far as drama-levels are considered )
  12. For something light-hearted (if drama in PE would be too much for you) try WagaHigh
  13. I'm on ToHeart2 too now, and really like it. Will write more, when I finish it, but it's great. It is like "The mother of modern VNs" So many familiar tropes I recognize from later works.
  14. Based on the review both versions (fan TL and Sekai) are bad. While supposedly Sekai translation is a little better, release itself is rushed, with some untranslated lines left. So I'm waiting for them to fix it, and then may give it a try. Majikoi is good, and translation is okay as well. The only thing slightly bothering me was some incosistency - same terms are translated differently between routes (as apparently they were done by different people)
  15. Apart from VNs mentioned above, give Little Busters a try. I think it's the best looking from Key "classics". I'm pretty sure that I won't play AIR or Kanon, as those characters look terribly to me, but LB is much better looking (than Clannad too), and I got used to its style in no time.
  16. I too started ToHeart2, we'll see how it turns out. One thing that bothers me slightly is NVL interface - fullscreen text is tiring to read for me (and the fact that spoken lines aren't tagged with character names). I much prefer ADV interface with text box at the bottom. But I'll try to endure it, as from all descriptions I've read, the VN seems nice. BTW After experiencing some truly horribly drawn private parts in decensoring patches for other games, I'm sticking with mosaics for this
  17. Well, I completed the game (and then skipped through JP version). To my utmost surprise, I think I actually like all-ages version more Only in Hikari route h-scenes are well placed in my opinion - in the others, some of them seem a little forced, as if they were put there just to meet the quota. As for all-ages version - it feels quite natural in all routes, and I actually liked some of the replacement scenes better. So to sum it up - I didn't feel like anything was missing from all-ages version. It is decently reworked, so it doesn't feel "incomplete" or "butchered" at all to me. Waaaay different than poor hackjob they did with Konosora. Translation still has some weak points, but it's almost decent . So if you don't mind lack of h-scenes - it is worth playing.
  18. But still there is something about the sky in the title
  19. Hatsukoi is all about romance While you're at it, try Maya route too. Haven't read the other two (HoshiMemo and MML).
  20. +1 for Dal Segno. Had some tear-jerking moments (at least for me) and some say it is too slow, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. As for other school-romances, besides those posted by @littleshogun, you may also try Princess Evangile, Noble Works and KoiChoco. I liked them all too.
  21. If you want Hotaru, FlightDiary fandisc awaits Unfortunately, untranslated
  22. BTW I loved this language switching thing on LittleBusters, as it could be done on-the-fly (right-click while holding left button). Great for some learning.
