  1. Currently there's no "visible" progress, but I'm still going. I'm halfway through lining up the lines for retranslation that I mentioned before. While we're at it - it turns out that in original version the employee at fastfood place wasn't explicitly said to be a girl - it's just 店員, so original drawing with a guy was OK. But I'm not changing it back - after all, it's kind of proto-moege, so you can never have too many cute girls Therefore she's going to stay
  2. Delayed https://solpress.co/blog/551/an-important-update-regarding-under-one-wing
  3. But why do you insist that it should be "localized into murrican"? Isn't "translated into english" enough anymore? If that's the case and the alternative, I'd say, fuck localizations, translation is enough and can reach much wider audience. I have no interest at all in american culture, so "fully localized" VN in the way you describe is pointless for me. This argument could also be reversed - "if you Murricans want murrican VNs, then write your own, instead of butchering japanese ones" And yet most of OELVNs are shit... Or is it all just elaborate trolling and I'm too dumb to notice it?
  4. I just finished Dare ka ga Koi Shita Hankagai. It had some interesting bits, and there were some feels, but all in all it feels quite unpolished/uneven. Well, according to the vndb, its developer is amateur group, so it's kind of to be expected. First route I've read was Ai's Quite nice romance route, and gives some basic information about the world. (Most of the story is set in the kind of "dream world") Next was Riko This route had some interesting parts about identity and loneliness. Strange, but nice. And finally Yurika's , which also serves as true route. Here authors tried to pull of a Key - in other words, writing nakige. Nevertheless an ending itself was IMO too sad, very different from previous two. The twist at the very end (the last lines) surprised me. Unfortunately it ends with the annoying "TBC" - so probably the story continues in the sequel, which isn't translated. As for the technicalities, there are many shortcomings. Art itself is okay for backgrounds, and pretty good for character sprites, but there are very few backgrounds, and CGs. Also, quality of voice recordings is very inconsistent - some lines are way quieter than the others, and overall sound quality is strange, like mp3 with too low bitrate. Also, English release is rather messy itself (isn't this becoming Sekai's trademark, sadly?). Translation sounds rather awkward, and it's inconsistent between routes - same terms/names translated differently. Looking at credits, there were three translators working on this title, and apparently editor couldn't handle it very well. Also, there are some typos, grammar errors and mistranslations. The one that bugged me the most, as it repeated pretty often, was translation of one of the generic side character names. At the various points in the story there are situations when we are speaking with some anonymous young lady, who would be either customer, or shop owner or whatever. In the original the name for such characters was probably "Onee-san". And what do we get in the english release? Yep, you guessed right - "Older Sister". I was like "WTF - whose sister is that anonymous character?" many times before it finally dawned on me All in all - some enjoyable moments, but not as good as I expected - 6.5/10, probably it's safe to skip it.
  5. And <drum roll> porting of the original english script is finished! All flags routes and choices seem to work correctly. Now comes the hard part - restoring removed parts, and trying to fix overall TL-awkwardness. Also I want to add some sound effects.
  6. I haven't played DiviDead, but I played Nocturnal Illusion. Enjoyed it despite abysmal translation. It was much worse than what we see here - it went beyond stiff and awkward, and right into grammatical error mayhem. Seemed like translator didn't know how English works I've heard that DiviDead was even worse Actually, I enjoyed "Season of Sakura" too, otherwise I wouldn't be doing this project now But those cut out portions of dialogue really baffle me, as - from what I can see - they provided either additional comedy or important background info for characters. Maybe translator was lazy, or thought that it was redundant (very convenient) I hope that my work on this project will help more people to enjoy this VN.
  7. Yeah, and I believe they don't But it is really strange, and it significantly lowers the quality of the translated version. As I see it now, many shortcomings of this VN, that I attributed just to its old age, seem to be actually caused by poor translation job...
  8. In preparation for the incoming retranslation/reediting job, I'm lining up extracted original and translated lines in a spreadsheet. It turns out, that in addition to pretty awkward translation, many dialogues were significantly cut by translation team for no apparent reason. (I mean, it wasn't censorship, just cutting out random pieces of text...) That would explain why sometimes parts of dialogue feel disconnected to me, especially when they aren't separated by "Talk:heroine" commands, as is the case with my project. Just look at this short scene (Shuuji and Kiyomi hiding from the rain in the cave during mountain camp in chapter 5): Those 8 cut lines leave pretty big gap if you ask me - they basically axed whole second part of this dialogue. There are many parts like this. Tsk,tsk, JAST...
  9. I suppose there were also diskspace constraints, as it is from floppy times. Now it's no concern, so I'm doing what I can As for progress report - I finished everything up to the final confession scenes. Now there are only endings left to do.
  10. I'm still alive and not burned out yet Yesterday I reached middle of chapter 11 - that means roughly 83% of original script has been ported.
  11. Chapter nine finished. If I'm reading script correctly, choice made in this chapter (christmas present) is kind of point of no return when it comes to the endings/routes - if you try to stray off the chosen route later on, you're heading for bad end. (Also, endings for Seia and Meimi branch off at this point - their routes are a bit shorter than Reiko, Kiyomi, Mio, Ruri and Aki)
  12. Now I'm at chapter nine And here's another additional background put together from various bits and pieces - it was boring to have whole scene just in Kiyomi's room (which didn't even have TV ) (It's edited ryokan room background combined with bits from Shuuji's living room, and the "movie" displayed on the TV is made using CGs from another JAST VN - Shuukan From H)
  13. The review I mentioned above complained the most about virtually resetting any character progress that might have happenned during first series. I don't know myself, because I'm just after the second episode of first series However I'm definitely going to watch both and a movie. That's good to hear
  14. Thanks, that's good to know. Do you mean "Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! -Take on Me-" movie from last year? I've heard some bad things about second season not living up to the expectations people had after first, but well, it won't hurt to give it a try (I mean, one of the reviewers rated first season at 8/10, while "Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai Ren" got lowly 2/10 from them... )
  15. "All-ages" might be a bit of a stretch (because even without H-content it probably wouldn't be suitable for kids ) , but "non-ero" certainly.
  16. Yeah, tbh that's enough to put me off, no matter how good the plot might be. For similar reasons I'm not even touching Euphoria and similar titles.
  17. Now, that certainly looks promising. (...wow, I already had it on my vndb wishlist ) OTOH - Solpress, where's my long-awaited Yotsunoha, huh?
  18. Well, chapter eight is almost finished - with classic dance scene at the end of school festival BTW - this background is exclusive to my version (In the original there was only day version of "festival-decorated" school grounds. I added sunset and evening versions.)
  19. As for what I'm listening to - recently I got first four Maiko Fujita's (藤田麻衣子) albums, and there was this song: If I'm not mistaken it was also used in some anime OP or ED, but I don't know details. However loving all four records, and ordering more
  20. I haven't read it yet (it waits in queue), but probably wouldn't have got it at all if only ero version was available. I was like: Wow, VN about trains! - "Open the gates!!!" Then: Shit, it's lolige! - "Close the gates!!!!" And finally: But there will be all-ages version - "Open the gates a little"
  21. Or if the original has h-content one is uncomfortable with (hint: Maitetsu)
  22. That's right. And currently I'm feeling really mindfucked tbh - I could swear that day or two ago I saw some posts in this very forum where some user explicitly said that they read the VN discussed in that topic on YT, but now I cannot find it at all... It's almost like second part of Mio's route from LB!
