  1. A VN with Mahou Shoujo heroine that is nakige instead of nukige? - looks interesting ...but looking at its length, it would probably take me something like at least half a year to complete, assuming it can be hooked Nevertheless, added to wishlist, together with Realive. Thanks
  2. Are we talking about 2019 releases, or the things we played in 2019? If it's about 2019 releases, then for me it's definitely Aokana.
  3. I haven't read Subahibi, but know the last one - it sometimes appears in the "random VN quote" field at the bottom of vndb page
  4. Finished Lamunation. Yaaaaaaawn... I'm a bit surprised, but it didn't work for me at all. Sure, there were some funny jokes, it was nice to spot some of the references or easter eggs, but still I'm utterly disappointed. It's just too random for me, and with almost no story. Seriously, compared to this, your average moege is plot-heavy. It's just collection of loosely connected skits that would work as comic relief in "normal" charage, or at Majikoi exit screen, but it fails as a VN, since there's nothing more. Also, the release is a bit buggy/messy. I get it that it is low-cost port, and price reflects that, but still... Engine feels unresponsive, and there's quite a lot of scripting bugs - like, often you need two clicks instead of one to advance to the next line, and there are several places when voices go out of sync with the text. So, sadly, another 6 in a row... It isn't complete trash, and perhaps there are people who will like it, but for me it was a chore to complete... PS The translation is nice
  5. Honestly, I have no idea. It's officially produced, I bought the CD at cdjapan, but it might very well be just another weird niche. I don't even remember how I found out about her - probably turned up in my Youtube recommendations, after I listened to some 80s stuff. I often wonder the same thing when listening to all those female singers-songwriters I mentioned before.
  6. I also had my phase for Initial D soundtrack about 12 years ago . It's totally over the top, but has its charm. Being somewhat of italo-disco fan, sometimes I return to it. It is interesting, because in essence it is just sped-up italo disco made for Japanese market. And in case of many of Initial D songs, they are made by actual italo disco producers and singers. I already mentioned KOTO in "confessions" thread, but since we're at Eurobeat now, she deserves a mention here too: This production is absolutely amazing, because it sounds like straight from the late eighties - really, they nailed the sound down to a t.
  7. Guide for Dal Segno is available on otakulair.com
  8. Recently I tried another 3DEVN - Melody Unfortunately, it was rather underwhelming experience. Being musician myself, I hoped that I could relate to MC and the story, but it was very flat, didn't evoke any emotions from me. I was mildly curious how will it unwind - that's why I completed it, but it was full of not-so-well executed cliches. Character models are decent, some of the H-scenes were quite hot, but in essence it was just typical (?) patreon-based borderline-nukige dating sim. Writing itself isn't too good - there were parts that read like some of the '90s JVN translations And repeated errors like "you're" instead of "your" are unforgivable in EVN... If you're selling your game, at least have someone proofread it... It had interesting premise, but the potential has been wasted. Like I said in the beginning - had some good moments, but overally underwhelming. 6/10 Maybe it's time to return to JVNs . I'm thinking about reading Amber Quartz next.
  9. Using CheatEngine + HAT combo I was able to hook many PSP VNs running on PPSSPP, as well as some PS3 ones running on RPCS3 (like Konosora Cruise Sign), but had no luck with PS1, PS2 and PC98 ones Looks like they tend to use nonstandard text encoding.
  10. So it looks like remake has some redeeming qualities I am one of those who love old voices and art style, but might give it a go if it gets decent price cut at one of the sales.
  11. As for your second question - I see that you played the remake. How would you rate the new voices and translation? Also, did they tone down those mood-ruining pantyshots in CGs?
  12. Well, Aokana backgrounds are truly something, but, sadly, it's rare to see such detailed backgrounds, filled with lots of characters with faces.
  13. Our protag-kun here's 23, but yeah, it starts with him complaining about feeling old But he kind of has some reasons for that.
  14. I just finished The Language of Love. It was short, but beautiful - very heartwarming. I wholeheartedly agree with @Plk_Lesiak's review. I liked almost everything about it - Tama's antics, the slow-paced, slightly awkward romance between Mitsuki and Kyouko, very tastefully done H-scene, with nice pillow talk afterwards... And some inspiring thoughts about relationships and life in general thrown here and there (maybe nothing new and unique, but it's nice to be reminded from time to time). Also, I feel like I could relate to a protagonist for a bit - at least when it comes to loneliness, and being awkward at relationships. (Although I am already way older than him...) 8/10 from me. On a side note - the Japanese setting of this VN seems pretty believable, which isn't that often the case when it comes to EVNs from what I gather The only other EVN I read that managed to pull that off was Katawa Shoujo. And then on the other side of the spectrum we have disasters like "No One But You... "
  15. Yeah, that was strong. However, for me, the heaviest one was I think that now I'm going to try The Language of Love
  16. Okay, finished Acting Lessons (completed all the routes and got all major endings. Didn't bother to uncover every single of little ending variations) It was really good. In addition to what I have already said, I agree that they did the protagonist's male friend thing really well. After hitting bad ending on the first playthrough, the good one was all the more satisfying. This VN surprised me a few times, made me shed some tears, and had some nice comedic bits as well. With 3D EVNs it's really hit and miss, since many of them are just plain nukiges, sex sims etc, but this one is really one of the gems. 8/10
  17. Yeah, I know, the walkthrough lists them. But it's pretty cruel (and clever at the same time), that That surprised me. Also,
  18. As for Acting Lessons, I just finished my first playthrough. Wow... the last two chapters hit like a ton of bricks. And some twists were really twisty. Also, THE WALKTHROUGH LIED TO ME! Seriously though, this VN does unusually good job when it comes to the consequences of the protagonists decisions. And I have to go back and get me some good endings now. But I'm already impressed. Also, (warning, HEAVY SPOILER!) Someone asked for a similar JVN. I think the one that comes closest from the ones I played (but still very different) would be Yume Miru Kusuri. Themes are different, but the thing about consequences (and having some of the h-scenes already in the common route) bears some similarity.
  19. There's no option for it right in the game, but since it's written in Ren'Py, it probably would be possible to somehow edit it to have visible textbox.
  20. I'm reading it right now, and really liking it so far. (I'm at 3rd chapter) It's quite refreshing when an EVN doesn't try to pretend to be JVN, but does its own thing.
  21. Slightly bored by Lamunation, in the meantime I read something totally different - one of the (too) many 3D EVN eroges - Depraved Awakening by Philly Games. It was not bad. It somehow reminds me of those 90's VN-adventure hybrids like Three Sisters' Story, Runaway City, DESIRE or even YU-NO - there is some plot there, some mystery etc (in this case, it begins as murder mystery), but everything is very ero-heavy at the same time. This game originally has been an episodic release on Patreon, and it shows - the art quality evolves throughout the game, as the creator gradually honed his skills. Just compare those two shots of one of the heroines - the first one is from the prologue, while the second one from one of the final chapters: It's the same with (animated) h-scenes. The first ones are just a few frames, while the later ones are much smoother. It wasn't great, but quite enjoyable, and the art in the final chapters looks really good - but, on the other hand, the beginnings are rather bad. It's good that he improved though I think it deserves score of 7/10. There's also the second game from this creator - City of Broken Dreamers and while it's still unfinished (it's currently at version 0.5, meaning five chapters), it looks really promising, with it's sci-fi-noir setting (reminds me of the Tex Murphy adventure games - it's like eroge version of Under A Killing Moon), great art and animations, much better story so far, and really good synthwave soundtrack. I'm looking forward to the full version - it has the potential for being an 8.
  22. Wow, the UI for the list has been already greatly improved - yorhel works fast. Currently I can use the list just like the old one, since single-click filtering is back I'd like to add start and finish dates to my VNs, but, sadly, for many I just don't remember.
  23. BTW, while this new system is extremely inconvenient as it is now, it made me realize how huge my backlog already is thanks to the counters next to the labels. It turns out that I have 92 unread VNs (that means games that I already have on my PC), and additional over 200 "bookmarked" on wishlist Even removing those with "low" priority leaves 54... Doubt I'll ever manage to read them all...
  24. yorhel himself admitted in the initial post that he sucks at doing UI, so hopefully he will improve it after sufficient feedback.
