  1. I have a Mac 13" that I play all sorts of games on, not just VNs. To be honest, I'm not sure why you would require such a large screen size? I've played VNs on my 11.8 inch Travelmate with no problems.
  2. Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome has a tall character, but she's got resting bitch face. It's categorized as an otome game, but I'd say it's closer to a VN with a hilarious script.
  3. So...it's more comfortable sitting at work? But you bought the same chair, brought it home, and have neck pain. Which you don't at work? Sounds like it's a desk problem. Edit: If you're looking for cush for your tush, get a cush. (sorry, I'm listening to Tush by ZZ Top)
  4. Honestly, as someone who finished Uni a decade ago, I kind of wish I was still there =_=;; paying the billls suck, but so does freeloading off your folks, so...honestly, I don't know what's worse, writing term papers or sitting in front of a computer day in, day out processing invoices. (did office admin work for 5 years out of college and god, it was mindnumbingly boring) So, yeah, enjoy your life right now! (Oh yeah. And welcome!)
  5. I was going through my Steam Library and I'm horrified to find that I've somehow managed to pick up a copy of Idol Magical Girl Chiru Chiru Michiru. Pt 1 AND Pt 2. Not to mention, I have all the Sakura games. =_= I don't even remember when I got them; I must've picked them up as a bundle before I knew about all that shady crap Winged Cloud was pulling. (and when the hell I buy a copy of Japanese School Life...?) So what's the one game you're ashamed to admit you have in your game library?
  6. Not a VN, but I'm trying to get through The Evil Within 2. A huge improvement over the first one, but scarier, so I'm having a hard time progressing ;; (i don't wanna leave this relatively safe alleyway and go into the street) long Live the Queen. Not as fun as everyone made it out to be :/
  7. Oh ho ho ho, I see what you did thar
  8. The art is gorgeous but $25 for a 10 hour long game? That seems...kind of hefty.
  9. Hi, I'm back! After playing the demo, I wanted to share my thoughts, but Lesiak pretty much said everything I wanted to. The things I liked: UI, character sprites, b/g art, CG scenes, sound The things I liked less: Grammar, music transitioning, it's super weird not being able to right click and save As a writer, the script was a little saccharine for my tastes. I'm not sure if the bad grammar and awkward phrases was done in a way to emulate the feel of a translated JVN, but it got a little annoying after a while. I found myself have to reread lines just to understand them. Some lines were kind of cringy. IE: "Saki, I must go far, far away from here." (who talks like that nowadays?) These kids...they don't talk like kids. I'm not saying you should revert to "Googoo gaagaa" but having Saki say "You're the only one who has ever wanted to befriend me" is just odd. Why can't she just say, "You're the only one who wanted to be my friend"? Befriended is not a word people use normally, and especially not children. So...yeah. That's my thoughts. Artistically, the game looks/sounds great. Technically, as far as the writing goes, there's still work to be done But it looks great and I'm glad I got the chance to play the demo. Good luck! PS: Don't tell people that the relationship between Yuuki and Mary is normal. Having to say that reminds of the quote "The lady doth protest too much."
  10. Touche. In addition, I guess I should say that I've never had an interest in learning Chinese. Unlike Korean and Japanese which I grew up with at home (and the English outside of the house), Chinese never got my interest, even though I have Chinese relatives :/ My SO speaks Chinese well. He studied a hellish amount in our first few years here. It kills me that whenever the natives try to talk to me, they're replied to by my SO, but they still reply back to ME. Like I've got this expression on my face "WTF ARE YOU SAYING", but they can't comprehend that the white guy can speak Chinese. (Or maybe it's just here they do that. We live in the asscrack of China. ) Going back to the original topic, though, going through the hardships of learning a new language just for the sake of reading a VN seems like a waste of time to me. If you want to continue reading VNs in JP, then by all means learn the language, but if it's just that one and you have no other interest in the language... Meh.
  11. Some super amazing ones, if I recall from, like, 10 years ago when I consumed fanfics like crack.
  12. Not really, I think you are oversimplifying. Perhaps the above could be said for European languages that have a common Latin thread, but going from German - English to Japanese is going to be especially difficult. I know English, Korean and Japanese. You'd think I'd get the hang of Mandarin. I've been in China for 5 years and nope, I still can't get past the basic "How are you?" dance. (it doesn't help that I can't differentiate between the effing tones)
  13. It's not like you can pick up a book and learn Japanese in half an hour. By the time you get to the degree where you can actually UNDERSTAND the VN you want to play/read/watch, well...it's going to be years, I think. Unless you devote all your time to learning, which seems a little odd just to read 1 VN.
  14. I would love to tell you my thoughts, but that huge block of text really turned me off T_T if you're willing to cut that up, I'd really appreciate it. But the synopsis certainly sounds intriguing enough. I like the escaping/recovering from the bully aspect, it made me think of Alive by Keiko Suenobu.
  15. Have you done panels at cons? I wish there were more informative panels like this at conventions rather than the usual Cosplay Chess (guh) or dances.
  16. (School Days before puberty...god, that sounds awful and traumatizing. I played this when I was in college and it still disturbed the crap out of me. It actually turned me off playing VNs for a while because I couldn't stop thinking about it :/) Welcome to the forums and an early congrats on your graduation. :3 Being an adult kind of sucks, fyi.
  17. You're adorable!! :3 As for me...(i hate having pictures taken of me, so this is one of the few that I don't absolutely despise) As I'm Korean (mostly), of course I have to take the required wedding photos (my mom paid, there's no way I'd pay money for this kind of stuff) with my SO and aside from his "HERE'SSSS JOOOOHNNY" look, it's kind of lame being the ugly one in the relationship, LOL.
  18. This one kind of messed me up. I'll never look at cat girls the same away again =_=;;; totally recommend, btw. Ebi-Hime's games are always a win for me.
  19. I'm really not. I do genuinely want other people's opinion on this. When I was referring to why FMLM was so popular, I was drawing on the # of reviews I've read and in all of them, the plot and art were not as lauded as much as the script. If it were not for the script, this game would be depressingly pedestrian. So what do the otome players in the Western world want? That's what I want to know. That's why I have asked. So yes, I do feel like this discussion is necessary. I'm sorry you feel otherwise. To say that FMLM is 3rd on Mangagamer, therefore +18 otome games must be popular is a little short-minded. There's not enough data to support this claim. EDIT: I just want to say that I'm not trying to anger anyone or step on any toes. If I've offended anyone, then I most sincerely apologize. All I want answered are these two questions: 1. will +18 otome games sell and 2. what elements would you want to see in such a game?
  20. Sorry, I misunderstood your point and I apologize for that. I was thinking about the hentai/ero manga where it's so obvious in the male protagonist's POV And yet, isn't it funny how romance, as a book category, is regularly one of the most popular (if not THE most) genre to be sold? Or at least, that's how it is in America. So, actually, I can see the point you're making. VNs and otome games are still very new in America, while not so in JP (where romance as a genre is certainly more watered down compared to the spicy prose being dished out by Western authors). I'm not sure if my point is coming across, though. I'm not sure if it's the social stigma, necessarily, although that certainly might be the case in JP where there's still a great deal of gender disparity. (oh my god, I think I'm losing track of my conversation here) But I don't think there's a lack of +18 otome games in JP, at least not that I know of. I think it's just the lack of +18 otome games that are available to the Western audience that I worry about. There hasn't been a market for them...or is there? Judging from this thread, I think there is a market, so I'll continue forging ahead. (got to say though, writing a game is so hard/different compared to novels, eeesh)
  21. Got to be honest, calling FLML an "otome" game kind of offends my "delicate" sensibilities.. I'm not even sure the script was written by a woman. The story kind of reads like a romance written by a guy (and I've read a great deal of those in the past) and the H scenes seem super gratuitous. Like, are they necessary for the plot advancement? In addition, the H scenes weren't really what I'd call the female perspective, they're just kind of...there? Like a movie still. If they were from her perspective, she wouldn't be in the picture. I'm currently playing FLML right now and, honestly, aside from the absolutely hilarious script, there's not a whole lot for me to like about this particular game. edit (to make this post relevant to the main topic): What would draw people to an +18 otome game? Is it the H? The storyline? The art? What would draw YOU to an +18 otome game? Me personally, it would be #1, the story and #2, the art. Yes, but WHY is it a bestseller? Is it a best seller because of the story? The art? The script? (my money's on the script) Is it a best seller because it's one of only 3 otome games being sold on mangagamer and there's not a whole lot of hi-quality Japanese otome games available for the Western game?
  22. No, don't worry too much about this. Actually, rape fantasy is not uncommon among women as far as fantasies go, so I imagine there are some players who get a real kick out of the rape scenario. Me, not so much, but you couldn't have known, so it's okay. Besides, there's just a lot of rape in JP anime/manga culture. (which is weird, because the average JP citizen would view rape as an abhorrent act...)
  23. Jesus, that would be an extremely bad end. Yeah...I think I would prefer my otome games to be rape-free, if possible ;; I'll have to check out Sakuya, although if your meaning of tame is the same as mine, maybe I'll be a little disappointed. FLML is okay, but it's not really a traditional otome game (for me, anyways) and actually, I cannot stand the girl's VA and the art is a little off-putting. But the script is hilarious I'll check out Yoshiwara Higanbana. I love me some good drama.
