Have you worked any jobs related to your field? The thing about school is that it doesn't focus enough on the application of the knowledge, just the acquisition--even in the applied fields. Perhaps doing an internship/co-op, schedule permitting, would help give you a bit more confidence in what you do, if you haven't already. I'm similar in this regard. I can't accept praise unless I firmly believe what I did/have is praiseworthy. Having high standards is good, but going about it this way probably isn't the most healthy xD. Sounds like you did get a bit of joy out of it, even if you think it's only about others. There's no reason making other people happy can't make you happy.
