Hey guys, just hopping in here quickly to say that no, the project has not died. It'll still be officially released by us regardless as that leaked version is based off an older version anyway.

And sorry that this has been taking so long, but we will get to the finish line. Cheers :)

Just logged in to see how the project is going, didn't even know there was a leak. But even if I knew I was just gonna wait for the official patch because I'd much prefer a final polished build of the translation patch than an early preview. Anyway hopefully 2024 is the year we get the full thing so we can play, been following the project since 2018 I think.

It's been a while since I post the update, although I'm very late to post it on this thread because it already available for few days. Anyway, as for the current progress Yuzuki's route has been finished it's QA work, which mean all of Ginharu has been done with QA work. It's still not done yet though, because there's remaining progress that Daybreak currently working on, namely preparing for the final build which involving fixing the remaining bugs (Line breaks and date system) before finally release Yuzuki's patch.

That's all for the update, and I hope the next update is in regard of Yuzuki's patch release even though it's still up in the air because the circumstance can be change.

What does that mean in terms of the final full patch? I haven't been following this project but it seems Yuzuki's route patch is the final one? Will get a big patch that includes all the routes after that?

Hello, Lady- Narita Shinri is nothing if not confident, though he is more than a bit of a pervert.  His other side is that of a ruthless avenger.

Tokyo Babel- Written by Higashide Yuuichirou, it is one of the few high-quality VNs of the type that have been translated.  It is all-ages (no ero content) and heavy on the action.  Protagonist is the type that punishes himself constantly for his past.  Basic story is that God started squishing all the parallel worlds, closed off Hell and Heaven, and a portion of the angels and demons got together to guide humans through Purgatory (that is combined with a fake version of Tokyo) to Jacob's Ladder.

Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori- Also from Front Wing, just like Grisaia.  Protagonist is a WWII Zero pilot who is doing a kamikaze attack on a US ship when he suddenly finds himself in another world.  Generally good story with Grisaia-style comedy, though it is heavier on the violence.

Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori looks good, I'll check it out. Thanks. I'll also note down Tokyo Babel for after.

  4. Hey, is there anything close to what I like about the grisaia series(specifically the first game, but I've played several routes from the second). Here's what I liked about it:

    • Strong/Confident protagonist that can talk to people - Yuuji has a good head on his shoulders, could talk to girls no problems and communicate, and wasn't the typical insecure MC so often seen in japanese VNs and manga/anime. He wasn't at all about saving the world or jumping at 15m monsters that he sees for the first time and being unable to think of anything but fighting opponents and bringing justice to the world. This is important as I'm kinda tired on boring, generic self-insert protagonists with nothing going for them except a power they randomly got or plot armor making girls fall for them just for existing.
    • Cool overall story - I very much liked the stories/backstories of the different heroines and how Yuuji helped them out. From what I saw in the anime, Yuuji has an interesting but tragic backstory as well. It seemed fresh to me compared to the contrived petty drama and boring stalling I've seen in other VNs. While the routes were often extreme and basically impossible to happen IRL they made sense to me and the drama at least was real in the sense I wasn't rolling my eyes. Just something that is enjoyable to read and follow along.
    • Feeling modern/novel - This is subjective and perhaps because the building they were in for most of the VN was mostly empty except for the MC and heroines or because I remember one of the characters driving a lambo, the game felt "modern" to me if I had describe it. The graphics were sharp, the art style was to my liking (which I usually prefer newer-ish style art in stead of the 90s or early 2000s art style).

What I've played before and enjoyed, although not saying it's what I'm looking for now: Steins;Gate, G-Senjou no Maou, Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai, Saya no Uta, Fureraba, Katawa shoujo, Bishoujo Mangekyou -Norowareshi Densetsu no Shoujo-.

These I've also played and were okay but nothing special or not what I'm looking for right now: Chrono Clock, Kin'iro Loveriche, Sorcery Jokers, KukkoroDays, Nanairo Reincarnation, Sanoba Witch, Senren * Banka, Tropical Liquor, Koisuru Natsu no Last Resort, Making lovers, Dies Irae, Doki Doki Literature Club, Sengoku Rance.

Here's suggestions I've researched myself but have not played:

Soukou Akki Muramasa, Ourai no Gahkthun ~What a Shining Braves~, Phantom -PHANTOM OF INFERNO-, Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo

Of these I'd most likely play Sharin no Kuni but I'm waiting for the official translation for that. On Ourai no Gahkthun I'm not sold on the premise and same goes for phantom. Soukou Akki Muramasa is perhaps something I will check out in the future but since I was reading shounen manga recently I'm not in the mood for a VN with many battles.

If you could write a short write up about the VN you're suggesting that would be great. Sadly I don't know japanese so translated VN's only please. Feel free to suggest anything you think I'd like or read in the future.

This is wrong, check page 11, OP replied back in October which was only a few months ago, you clearly did not look through past replies and are just giving out false information.

Your reply makes me question whether you are arguing in good faith. This is the one year period I was referring to - image below. Yes, OP posted(after one year - the post you are referring to) but people started to have doubts(and wondering whats going on with the project) before that post because it had been one year since OP had posted and progress had dwindled to a halt. That's why I said that people were right to cast some doubt, along with the other things in my post. I also said "hadn't" as in past tense. It is you who are giving false information and you ignored everything else in my comment. Either that or I guess I wasn't articulate enough but it does seem clear enough to me.

I am on neither side, after all I defended both sides. I just said that some people (especially people who haven't really been following the project) had some right to doubt if it will ever release. But the other side was right that to call the project dead would not be true. It is like you completely ignored all the stuff I said about the people who think the project will be completed. I tried to offer some reconciliation between both sides but I guess some people don't want it and want to stick to their preferred opinion. Me replying to you now makes it seem like i am leaning to the pessimists but it's not like passion projects are protected from any criticism - even if it's a passion project, on a public forum like this complaints should be expected. I don't want to repeat myself but on the subforum "Released"(Finished projects that have been released) has 1.5K posts and the subforum "Archived"(For dropped, and stalled projects) has 3.1K posts. Yes, with such a statistic people can doubt projects easily and not without reason I might add. It's not like any insults or anything were hurled to OP. I've also been following the project for years(I checked and the first time I've posted in the thread is february 24th, 2018) and I did see that progress slowed significantly but since it moved I wasn't especially worried. It's good to be positive, it was good to defend the project too - you were right by doing this. But just shooting down others opinion wasn't especially when they had valid points.

    Couldn't have agreed more!

It would be unfortunate to me and many others if this projects happens to be cancelled, and I can't blame if some people gone on their way to be mad about it, (since they were given a false hope and all that), but like you said if that ever happens the OP's could only have themselves to blame, since they're the ones who sets up expectation,

and maybe the reason why i'm being a bit too positive is because the project is 90% done, i personally don't mind that much if they ever cancel it because i can tolerate the 10% with mtl,, that is if the OP decides to release the rest of the patch when cancelling.... it's either that, or maybe i've been seeing too many big game company being greedy to the point where passion project like these really restore my faith in humanity.

Also It's perfectly fine for people to be sussy wussy and even negative towards a passion projects, but I personally think it's better to be in the middle ground, maybe lean into the positive side a bit , because if we're being realistically positive here, we don't lose anything if a fan projects were cancelled (exept for feeling dissapointed) and the only people who's losing something is the TL team, i don't mean to sound mushy here, but they sacrifice their free times to put out their works (albeit unfinished) just to get possibly trashed because of it,, even tho they chose to do this to themselves and even if the project were cancelled halfway through, i think we should still be grateful with the effort that they put out... in short, beggars cant be choosers

But i whole heartedly agree that communication is the key, transparency is good to get the hypes and hopes going, a simple spreadsheet could only do so much, the best example i could think of a fan TL with great communication is The GeofrontTeam, from what i seen, they fan localize falcom games, changing and translating the game texture, adding  extra stuff like full hd support, chest messages, etc,,

but most important of all is how transparent they are with their project, in their website they write blogs about the progress and future plans (To keep the audience in touch, and push themselves to be more organized), sometimes they even do qna, shows the ins and out of localizing the game (So the audience could relate on how much of a giant task localizing is, and then hopefully turn that relatability, into patience and understanding), they also make injoke memes to simply chill and enjoying the process, etc.

hope im making sense lol, tho again, we all want the best for this project, so why don't we give it one.

Yeah, I agree with what you said man. Being somewhere in the middle seems to be best. I am positive that the project will be finished too.

  6. All the positive guys need to understand the other perspective as well. Many many projects have failed as can be seen on this forum. You need to understand that a public announcement like this carries consequences and some responsibility (if you don't wanna get criticized) - people can get mad even if it is a passion project, after all something has been announced and in a way promised. Keep in mind this has been in translation since 2017 and is still not out. OP hadn't posted in the thread for a full year. New people can come in and see that seemingly nothing has been happening recently and ask questions. There is nothing wrong with some argumented criticism and some people are more pessimistic which in my opinion is fine. Coupled that there was no communication for a while and suddenly very slow progress + the reddit comment I think it was not too far fetched to cast some doubt at the time.

To the negative guys: Now is it somewhat of an jerk thing to come in and declare the project dead and spread panic so to say after not too much time has passed since the last progress update, yeah it might be. And after all it is a passion project - we are not owed anything and as pessimists you should understand that this TL patch might never come out at all considering all the abandoned projects. Considering we've already gotten a partial patch and progress has been ongoing for years, a sudden cancellation seems somewhat unlikely. Considering his years long engagement I think the main translator would tell us if he suddenly decided to stop the project if he had the opportunity to. Also progress never truly stopped, it just became very slow.

At the end of the day what we need is communication between the TL team and the forum here so stuff like this doesn't happen. When progress almost crawls to a halt and nothing has been posted it's obvious some people will feel uneasy after checking the thread for a few years now. I feel like both sides had something to say but neither is completely right. Just blindly believing it will come out no matter what(this seems to me naive or at least too positive, after all people have expectations and projects often fail, and this is a discussion board + the happy-go-lucky attitude doesn't go with a lot of people) or declaring the project dead(which I wasn't convinced at all at the time - there was progress made, just very slow so it was an active project and just sayings it's dead is false and can confuse new people) is no good.

  7. Check out the usual big names:

    Clannad

Grisaia no Kajitsu and the sequels Grisaia no Meikyuu, Grisaia no Rakuen

    Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai

    G-senjou no Maou

    Fate/Stay Night

    Little Busters!

    Steins;Gate

    Saya no Uta

    Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative

ef - A Fairy Tale of the Two

These are all translated and acclaimed VNs so you should find something that you like. They are not very new (I think all are >5 years old) but they are staples of the genre.

I also recommend checking the two pinned threads which includes some of the suggestions I've listed here.

  8. Hello, i'm looking for an english VN with a heroine like Reina from Kin'iro Loveriche - namely friendly, confident in herself, stylish but not shy and/or an airhead, tsundere. The only other character that I've seen that is similar is Rina from Fureraba. This is a good description of the character type from Rina's character description: "Anything goes between these two, be it puns or dirty jokes." refering to the MC and Rina. They also seem to be popular with many friends but that's a more generic trait, I'd suggest reading both characters description on VNDB as well as the tags to get an idea of the type of character I'm looking for.

VNs I've already played (incomplete list):

    Grisaia

    Chrono Clock

    Making * Lovers

    G-senjou no Maou

    Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai

    Katawa Shoujo

    Nanairo Reincarnation

    Sorcery Jokers

    Senren Banka

    Sanoba Witch
