  1. It makes you wonder why someone so beautiful was doing that kind of job? Interesting. In your opinion, one's physical attractiveness, which is largely determined from genetics, is what should determine one's career? God I hope you never rule anywhere I live, because I'd probably be a trash collector or something.
  2. I assume it's in Spanish because of the EEUU? Link me up fam In any case, while you seem to believe this Japanese culture expert (JCE) is biased / prejudiced, I would also note that you continuously refer to their opinions as "bullshit" and to JCE as a "fucker". Do ensure that you present both sides of the argument fairly, even if their thoughts may seem completely outlandish. It's very hard to contribute on a topic like this because there are, to my knowledge, no concrete statistics or studies that examine the link between interest in Japanese media and personality traits. As a personal anecdote, however, I know multiple people that seem to fit perfectly into the theories JCE proposed. I don't believe that this is a one-size-fits-all everyone that likes anime is a manchild type deal, but in some cases it rings very true. I think JCE may be referring to people that are obsessed with Japanese media and whatnot, rather than anyone with an interest. There's "I enjoy anime and am learning Japanese in my spare time" and then there's Kendesu. That is an important distinction to make.
  3. ^ I can confirm he is a dork, but whether or not he is a big one is up for debate. < These pancakes taste really nice v What's your favourite pillow look like?
  4. Wait a minute, are you the real Elysion? I follow you on Twitch Same same cute socks are the best, I got a collection
  5. Grr! I spent a while cooking up my application, too. I thought I had a chance against Clephas at least since his entire application was ostensibly just "Me.", but I can't argue against the three that were ultimately chosen. They are all fine candidates, and with that in mind I rest easy knowing that when I am inevitably banned for shitposting, the blow will be struck by someone I respect.
  6. Is this a technical issue, sir? Or is there some undemocratic tampering going on here?
  7. Fur-lined, weather-beaten jacket screams "I work hard for a living" contrasting with the friendly goatee and vintage reading glasses that shout "I'm a tech support expert, how can I help you today?". Turtleneck sweater underneath the jacket for that Bear Grylls "I'm literally prepared to leave this concrete jungle and survive in the real woods at any time" rough and tumble feel. Slight smile that says "I want to kill myself, but don't really feel like it tbh". Somewhat unkempt but fitting hair that says "I care about my hair enough to not look like a fool, but I'm not metrosexual". Finally, the Apple earbuds show that despite all of this, you are modern and forward-thinking. 9/10. u srs handsome tbh
  8. Due to the limited space available in a single post, and my desire to avoid clogging up this page too much, I have arranged the relevant information within this application. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
  9. "Have you ever seen those ridiculous commercials with the bright colors of perfect beach vacations and everyone is beautiful and smiling and thought, "I'd go there if it were really like that." In this game that's the reality! It's the near future, and men's penises and purposes had shrunk to miniscule size, the birthrate had dropped to dangerous lows. Everything came down to one valuable asset: having a massive cock! Big, fat, thick, fully engorged wangs are worshipped by a female society deeply in need of satisfaction! Beautiful bikini girls prancing around waiting for your big thick c*ck to slip up their ever-wet holes. " I dunno about you man but Kimomen Demo Kyokon nara Mizugi Gal to Ria Juu na Natsu ga Sugoseru! ~Gakuen Senbatsu! Saikou no Mote Kawa Gal 8 Nin to Pakopako Tanezuke Beach!~ sure sounds great to me.

  11. Oh, I quite disagree. I was just having a bit of fun trying to prove Kiri wrong. Sadly, my attempts backfired. In any case, thank you for expressing yourself in a respectful manner, and allow me to respond to everything you said here in an equally gracious way. An Oedipus complex is separate from a father complex and mother complex. Neither of the latter two indicate any form of sexualisation; rather they can indicate a range of feelings from negative to positive to ambivalent. My point is simply that "complex" has too wide a range of implications for the common reader to be able to discern what "sister complex" would refer to, whereas sister enthusiast, although certainly not perfect, has relatively easily discerned sexual undertones in my opinion. Sister complex could be that the individual is (non-sexually) obsessed with his sister; that he is jealous of her, so on... Depends. It should be noted that complexes are found chiefly in psychoanalysis and analytical psychology. Unfortunately, as I am a mere student and not a certified psychologist, I cannot hope to surmise what name a professional would assign to such a condition. Yes, I do think the Maddona-whore complex has complete justification. I can easily find a number of academic sources detailing information about it... not to mention, I don't think it's crazy at all. You should see how hard of a time I had getting it up with my ex-girlfriend of several years! No, I don't think the Lolita complex article should be deleted, nor did I ever suggest such a thing. It doesn't originate from the term lolicon at all; it derives from the novel by Vladimir Nabokov. Unless you're referring to how the title of the article is "Lolicon"; if that's the case, I think it's fine considering a wider amount of readers are more familiar with that term than with "Lolita Complex", but I am not well-versed in Wikipedia's guidelines. I originally referred to Wikipedia in my previous post because the then-current discussion concerned it. I don't think it has very much importance or relevance in terms of translating something. Technically, any of the terms we discussed are "okay" to use in an English translation. If there was a hard guidebook on translating a visual novel I'd slap it out right here and say, "Oh, it seems you're correct" or the inverse. Personally I think what's important is that the ultimate translation convey meaning in the clearest way possible to the largest amount of English readers, not just people familiar with Japanese anime culture. I would have been completely lost when I played through STEINS;GATE as a western fellow unfamiliar with these sorts of terms had it not been for the glossary of terms... perhaps having such a guide is a decent compromise? Thanks for your response, in any case! EDIT: To clarify, I don't think either of us are absolutely "correct". Translators can and do choose from both original Japanese terms and attempts at localising them. Regardless of which one they choose, one camp of visual novel fans will be upset.
  12. Let's test this theory. "Sister complex" and "Brother complex" were added to the article on 10:09, 4 October 2017‎ by 2601:6c4:4001:2af0:c552:121a:8b38:ec8a; a user without an account. This is their only edit on record. Since then, the page has not been edited or revised by anyone except bots and other users without an account. Sister and brother complex are neither cited nor are they mentioned in any of the citations on the page. Thus, it can be concluded that it is likely that this information is erroneous and will be revised when an expert reviews the article. For a further bit of confirmation, I researched for academic studies containing the exact terms "brother complex" and "sister complex"; I found little to none that dealt with psychology rather than biological sciences (where sister complex and compounds are terms completely unrelated to what is being discussed here). The only relevant mention I could find was in Normal and obsessional jealousy: a study of a population of young adults by Donatella Marraziti et al. This paper contained "Freud [9] suggested that jealousy was rooted in the Oedipus or “brother and sister” complex". From all of this, I can conclude that "brother complex" and "sister complex" are unheard of within psychology. The only mention I could uncover referred to them as an alternate name for the Oedipus complex, which would actually be quite misleading considering that particular complex refers to affections towards one's parents and jealousy towards siblings. Though related, it is quite different from the meaning of the original phrase "siscon". I hope that helps clear things up.
  13. Attitudes like that are precisely why the behaviour of the VN community towards fan translation teams is so hostile, though. When translators like yourself act so arrogant and unreceptive towards people that are just passionate about a particular VN, and likely uninformed about the fan translation community and how it works rather than being explanatory and receiving them warmly... well, that's precisely why the forum is dead, as you mentioned.
  14. I'd be willing to translate or edit, but for translation purposes I can only translate from the Chinese patch (I'm a heritage speaker, don't know Japanese). I could also QC, but I imagine that you're looking to fill more important parts of the squad first. Do you already have a team assembled or in mind? Do you intend to be the project leader? What roles are you looking to fill? Link me up to your website, too, if you have one already.

    Dawn.

"Hey, I have this friend on the internet. He just wrote a blog post lamenting how depressing the dawn is. He even remarked that such a dreary morning makes him want to kill himself. He doesn't think he doesn't need to worry about it, though, it's just a minor suicidal thought, apparently." You know, if I were to say that to someone, the first words out of their mouth would probably be something along the lines of "Is he depressed or something?". I suppose it's a far simpler thing to downplay the presence of a problem and live content with its existence. Personally, though, I much prefer to address things. You might be okay now, not worrying about it, but why let it persist? I used to be a much grim, darker person in my teens, and probably still would be today if my only thoughts on the way I view the world were "eh, it's fine". Life is full of potential new experiences, and the greater world beyond the monochrome dawn lying outside your window is host to an infinite spectrum of vibrant colour. All that you need to do is be open to the idea of searching for it. Of course, it's not my place to tell anyone how to live their life. I just hope that, as your friend, you find a better place to be than the one you're at now.
  16. I feel this one is the best, in my relatively uneducated and inartistic opinion. The others make the sprites too tall relative to the pony ride thingy, whereas the closer one is too close to the ride. It also has people milling about, giving it a sense that the place is an amusement park and not a lifeless wasteland. Also, the benches are nice. I like benches.
  17. That's true too. Realistic is a very subjective word, and I'm having quite a bit of trouble finding a better-fitting one to use in this context. You also have a good point that there's a wide range of genres within VNs and they all tend to portray romances in a different way. I guess it all depends on the reader and what they consider to be realistic; some people in this thread seem to be a bit more cynical and think romances in real life often contain betrayal, transactional relationships, and so on, whereas others find it to be a positive thing that can develop in many different ways or what have you. Bearing that in mind, it's hard to give a definitive answer whether VN romances are "realistic" or not, I suppose. also it is soap opera, not soup opera. now I am hungry, though. Thanks, SeniorBlitz
  18. Ah, hey, that looks quite good from a first impression! I'll try to avoid reading any more about it so I go in blind. Thank you very much for the recommendation Maggie, I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before. Aye, I have no objections there. I just wish the counter-examples were a bit more numerous, since I personally can have trouble suspending my disbelief for a utopia-ish story at times. However, I have nothing against either kind, I've enjoyed quite a few VNs that just throw realism (for lack of a better word) out the window and let it slowly die out in the cold That's perfectly fine, we all have our own preferences. I just like a bit of variety. I enjoy a good romance story as much as anyone else, but I don't like going into every single one feeling like "okay, she is the true heroine. they will get together somehow in the end, regardless of what may happen in between", or "okay, these 4 are the romanceable characters, the protagonist can end up with whatever one I pick". I imagine that's an unpopular opinion though, and I don't expect the VN industry to cater to my unique tastes
  19. It depends on the visual novel. Naturally, the majority of stories are exaggerated to a degree, but some don't stray too far from what is realistically possible. Contrary to some of the previous answers, I wouldn't mind a visual novel that is "real-life like" to some degree. If the story ends in a bad way where the true route is life separating the protagonist and his/her chosen lover, it's no problem with me. I enjoy a well-written happy ending or any other kind just as much, too, though. Thanks for the interesting thread, Ratboi.
  20. Do you have any more information, like the name of your project or team? You say you have two character creators, two story makers, and a programmer, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean. What is a "story maker"? Are you looking for someone to draft what the plot and story is, or someone to actually write the content of the VN? Is the character creator an artist or someone designing who the characters are? At what point in the development process are you? Not trying to come across as critical, just wanted to find out more!
  21. Actually, I use my sister, who speaks English fluently, as a translator. I communicate to her through interpretive dance, which she then converts into posts for me.
  22. My results. Bugger. I like to tout my English ability, but it seems I need to hit the books more.
  23. Hate to add my voice to this particular chorus, but Chewy sure is the most handsome man on display here
