Besides Japanese, I'd have to go with only a few.  I've noticed that all of them have been mentioned already too.
    Russian
    German
    Gaelic
The last two are because of ancestral reasons, but Russian is the odd one out because I simply enjoy the way it sounds.

Hm. Can't say I really "like" other languages aside from English and Japanese, since I don't really encounter or use other languages that often.
Mandarin is my second language, but I have a difficult time reading traditional Chinese characters, so the "simplified" form is the way to go for me, and even that can be a challenge for me.
I use Hokkien (a Chinese dialect) quite a lot around the house, but again, it's not really a language I "like" or anything, just a tool I happen to use.
Cantonese has its appeal, since I happened to grow up watching quite a few Hong Kong drama/movies as a child.
For me, I really see languages as tools rather than some passion of mine, but if you really want to get into it, I guess you could say I do happen to like songs of certain languages over others. Growing up with a Chinese background, Mandarin and Cantonese songs are a big influence, and I found myself preferring their more emotional and passionate style of music over English music at times (I still prefer English music in general though if you ask me).
I have quite a few Chinese songs I liked, not the least of which are Jackie Chan songs (yes, he sings, very well in fact). Also, Andy Lau songs are not bad too. Chinese songs are a funny thing, because they can be so overly sentimental and sappy at the worst of times (much like their movies), but I guess that's also part of their charm that appealed to me as well.

Still working on the playtesting part. I'm checking things on my end first, but I'm getting closer to finishing it. Then I can send to QC.
Hopefully, we can still release the partial patch by the end of the year. Fingers crossed!

I have unknowingly went my entire life eating chicken periods. This revelation has left me in a state of shock. Once again, I realize that ignorance is bliss. The more I discover about life, the more I realize that things are being kept hidden from us for a reason. I have reached enlightenment in the worst way possible.

As others have already said and I agree, avoid picking up another VN. It's not that you shouldn't read more than one at a time, but rather, if you are switching because you got fed up with your current read, you're most likely never going back to it. What's more, you're probably also gonna eventually drop the new one, in an endless loop
If you're dropping a VN that is of course fine, but be honest with yourself.
My advice is, if you find yourself tired of reading, just do something else for a while, maybe a few days, maybe a few weeks. Take the time you need so you come back to it feeling that urge to read again and finish that story.

I don't disagree, but the grammar being natural sounding is the editor's job. As a translator myself, I can tell you when you're deep in the translation process you can write some funky shit whilst trying to convey the nuance that was in the original Japanese, even if English is your native language.  It then takes a fresh set of eyes to look at it and go WTF and fix it.

There's no doubt that a better grading scale could be created, but the only way to do it justice properly is to split it up into multiple components, separating out translation, editing, production values etc. My list was simply created to try and combine all of those values into one grading scale, assuming that in general quality of other components tends to parallel that of the translation. I also stated in the opening post that there are always exceptions to this, but the main thing that I'm interested in is the actual translation component itself, but one cannot ignore that editing is part of that process!

I have some issues with the entries' descriptions that are making it really hard for me to place a vote.  I can understand why subtle nuances would be missed. In fact, besides the nuances loss that could be chalked up to the translator inexperience or lack of effort, there are some cases where it might be necessary or else it would unavoidably sound awkward (you have to keep in mind that things that are commonly said in a language are not in another one). However, if an English native speaker is translating the thing, I expect the English translation to sound natural. There is absolutely no excuse if it doesn't. It's just laziness (I mean, a fairly good reason, but a very poor excuse nonetheless ).
On the other hand, since I am not a native English speaker myself, I probably wouldn't pick up on every little detail anyway, so that should make my personal cut-off point somewhat more lenient.
I won't even take typos into the equation because that's not really a translation issue. The translation should be gone over by the editors to at the very least fix those minor issues. If it's not, well, it will certainly give the final product a very unprofessional vibe, but it's not like it affects the translation per se.
So... I guess my bare minimum to be happy should be around a 5 in that list? But as I said I don't agree with every point. It's a 5, but the grammar should still sound natural, ffs.

Merry December! 'Tis the season for everyone to adorn their avatars with Santa hats and forget about them well into February.
How does this work? Well, you either edit a Santa hat from below—or from elsewhere on the Internet—onto your avatar, or you get Fiddle to do it. No, he isn't busy or anything. (He probably is busy or anything.)

So: if you're too lazy to put a Santa hat on your avatar yourself, then ask for one of the ones above, and I'll put it on your avatar in a mere [INSERT TIME HERE DURING REVISION] hours!
Before requesting a Santa hat, make sure:
that I haven't already Santified your current avatar during a previous year. that you numerically specify a Santa hat from the list above, or else consign yourself to my artistic taste. that you prepare yourself for the worst if your avatar is not hat-friendly, such as those in which the character's head is largely cut off from view. that animated avatars require a lot of work, and I might not be able to Santify yours. that you are free to make special requests, but with each special request, a kitten dies somewhere. You probably don't have to worry about saving your original avatars, because I keep them all in a chamber somewhere and ping you when Christmas is over and it's time to switch back. But maybe you should save your original avatar if you don't trust me, and I don't trust me.

Man, it truly is a shame, but unfortunately it seems to be the truth. While there's usually a decent amount of users online It's only a handful of them who regularly post and sustain the little activity the forums has. On the other hand, and trying to look at the bright side, at this point we've become so acquainted with each other that almost feels like a little family
I sure hope that even if the main site is dead some new people will come along as other leave so that the little activity the forums has at least stays constant.

    @DreamysyuHappy fuwanniversary
I can totally relate to your confession. Actually, the same kinda holds true for me as well, though before coming to fuwa I'd already been in several English speaking communities and the like, so the language probably was not the first thing on my mind. Still, there's that extra shyness that comes with having to express your thoughts in a language that you don't have a firm grasp of, and then there's the satisfaction when you manage to convey what's on your mind and the feeling of that initial shyness fading away... You kinda get addicted to that
And the same as you, I've started to enjoy English media not only as much, but even more. At this point there's something about reading in English that stirs up my emotional side more than reading in my native language, for some reason and weirdly enough, as I'm aware it should be the opposite. Whatever.

I don't really feel like creating a separate thread for it but, apparently, today it's exactly 3 years since I posted my first post on Fuwa.
And I guess, here comes a confession: originally the main reason why I decided to register and start posting here was to become a bit more comfortable writing things in English. I started reading books in English and watching movies long before that and I gradually got to the point where my understanding was good enough that I started to enjoy them more or less the same way as the ones I watched or read in my native language. On the other hand, my experience actually expressing my thoughts was basically zero, so I thought, maybe that would make a nice experience to me.
Confession 2: at first I was absolutely sure that my post count would never rise above 50 or something like that...

Thyndd got a reaction from Dreamysyu in What kind of ending structure do you prefer?
If I could get several conclusive endings each of which could stand on their own and be comparable in quality to the true routes of other VNs, sure, who wouldn't want that? However most of the times whenever there is a true route or ending it's either because the other routes don't have that much relevance to the main story that it's being told (G-senjou, for instance), or because it's necessary to tie all the other routes together and make the story feel complete as a whole.
I don't think there are many, if any VNs out there with several endings that have the same weight for the heck of it. If someone wants to told a story, they will tell you THAT one story, and not 3 or 4 that could stand by their own. They are more likely to make sequels in that case, if they want to keep using that same setting.
Dating sims and moeges in general are an exception, of course. But it's not like they are the pinnacle of story telling anyways.
