Nice review! Although really, Liberation Day is a personal trauma of mine and I will never get the motivation to check out this game. Can't forgive how that game's plot was executed and the only way to not live with a burning hatred of it is to keep one of the time-travel alt endings as my headcanon, and never touch this series again.

Feel free to share them with your friends! Lesiak is the expert in this field. And retrospectively you might want to check out his blog: EVN Chronicles
Even though it is dead, it still houses a lot of content to learn a lot from!

Thank you! Honestly, during the pandemic I saw mostly a bit of a downwards trend in game jam stuff and general liveliness of the scene... And then, while I tuned out of it, we got 140+ entries in this year's NaNoRenO, which is just insane. If the coming Spooktober and the Yuri Game Jam go similarly, than yeah, there will be a lot of fuel for this series, alongside some occasional Steam or mobile VNs that aren't game jam related...

Let's hope this series blows up again. Due to the extreme influx of new developers in all kinds of JAM events on itch.io which now have 4 digit participants this area of the indie games market stays completely unexplored and impossible to predict. Maybe there is the new free DDLC title everyone will play right around the corner released at one of these jams? You never know.

Extremely happy you are bringing this back!

Sorry for the late comment but I didn’t know that it had multiple endings. I played the original version, when it was still Stellaren 1, Stellaren 2, Stellaren 3 and till 6 maybe or 5 I don’t remember. It has been a long time since I played it and when I played it I don’t think there was a different endings. Moreover, I think there were never been any routes to play. It’s just one storyline and that is when (spoiler I think) M and K traveled out to space somewhere (I don’t really remember). Is the original (Stellaren 1,2,3,.....) and the compiled (Stellaren ONLY) one different? Or maybe there was a different endings on the original one, it’s just that I never know about it, mind you that I have only played it once and that was really long time ago when it was 2016 maybe.
If you do reply thank you in advance!!
On second thought you’d probably won’t remember since it’s not a popular VN

I had this game downloaded from a long while ago and finally got to playing it. I loved the characters, with Kylan's route surprisingly being my most favorite. I loved the different endings, glad I got the romantic good ones first before the bad ones. I really am glad I got to play this game. There were some times that had me tear up, so well done!
I can't find much out about what happened to this company and why the game got pulled from Steam, but I found this page and wanted to leave some sort of review so you guys (if you're out there) can see that we still love your game.

EVN, a term that stands for English Visual Novel, and it refers to Visual Novels that were developed by English-speaking developers. Other similar terms that might be used are OELVN (Originally English Language Visual Novel) or Western VN.
Examples consist of Highway Blossoms or Mutiny!!, and, of course, the titles in his Steam Curator page.

So even my alter-ego burned out?  There's something vaguely nihilistic about watching successive generations burn brightly and then be snuffed out by the ravages of time.  It's like watching the community slowly approach heat death.

You know, if it weren't for you, I might not even consider reading EVNs. I still haven't, but I will eventually! I've got Highway Blossoms sitting in my library!
And yeah, mate, enjoy your break. Maybe in the meantime you could try watching something like Bofuri? That might help to alleviate some of your stress.

Yours was the most comprehensive and well cataloged EVN blog. You did really good work. And regardless of whether you just take a much needed and well deserved break, or end up retiring from this kind of thing. You have a strong library of reviews as a legacy!
Slightly disappointed I didn't manage to release my VN in time to request a review from you. I hope I can at least convince you to read it once your burn out cools down. I'm not presumptuous enough to say you'll like it, but I can confidently assure you it's quite different from most VNs you've read.

Well, it's a bit sad that you're stopping doing the blog, but it's totally understandable. Your blog was one of the most enjoyable ones I've been following on this site, and there were quite a few VNs that I found pretty interesting and added to my backlog. By the way, I'm still yet to play Heart of the Woods, but I have really high expectations for it.
Well, in the end, thank you for everything you wrote here! Can't really talk for everyone, but you did manage to change my personal perceptions of EVNs a bit. I think, before you started talking about them, the most common thing I heard about them was that they are mostly pretty low quality and mostly aren't worth playing, but now I know that there are plenty of ones that I should probably check out eventually, as long as I don't drop VNs entirely.

Like, certainly, I appreciate that The Heart of the Woods masterful experience, but I know what I'm getting into if the premise is 'a goth girl meets a fairy girl and yuri ensues'. I was not expecting ebi's usual stuff, and actually hoping it wouldn't be in. This is all great news to me.

But he's definitely going to make one! At least in Drakan's route. He doesn't want to disappoint his mother-in-law. Mostly because she would kill him the moment he does. *Happy Loving Family intensifies*

I've completed Lisha's as well as Rei's and Eth's. I have to admit, from your words, I had the impression that Sable's actions would mean there'd be no romance, but that is clearly untrue.
As harem/love triangle anime/manga have (unfortunately) taught us, romance does not require the involved parties to be dating or even recognise feelings for one another. This game does that in spades, with Sable being loved and loving in return, though not in a romantic way. The routes often end with Sable paired up with somebody who has affection for him and to whom he cannot at this point avoid showing affection to. His intent may not be romantic, but in practice it contains all the feelings and affections I hope to attain from regular romance stories (and which sometimes are absent!). I have zero cause for complaint. Lisha's route, for instance, was beautiful with what took place within, as far as feeding my need for trust and affection.

I finished Tix's route, which I'm not sure the game even had when you reviewed it.
Regardless, as odd as it is, I both love romance and intimacy and the direct opposite:

Sable is reminding me of Nemui from Mutiny!!. A character I deeply loved for being entirely disinterested in sex in a game and world completely all for it. She was wonderful, as is Sable. As you've said, Sable isn't aromantic, but it's nowhere near his current priorities.

For whatever reason, I've been interested in this VN since I saw this review, but I clearly didn't read it because I didn't know Sable was the protagonist.
Anyways, I'm finally reading this and goodness me how I appreciate a magic school story of this scale with loads of characters and interactions. I haven't read any route yet. In fact, I have no idea how I'd get into a route, since the choices I've made so far have put me all over the place talking to all sorts.
I'm properly warned not to expect romance, and frankly I'm not looking for it if the game isn't trying to tease it (as I've found out, that's the reason I tend to dislike a lack of romance; it's because it's almost always teased and used as a hook to keep one reading until the end).
Sable is an absolutely fantastic protagonist as he is. From his interests to his interactions, where he's too honest for his own good and where he gets the exact same impressions from conversations as I do ("Something was strange about her today." or "She has a number of flaws, but maliciousness isn't one of them.").
