EyesOfTheHeavens got a reaction from mitchhamilton in My Twisted Cinderella [Fantasy/Romance/BL] (Yaoi Jam)
Hello. I am working on my first visual novel for the Yaoi Game Jam, "My Twisted Cinderella", based on Disney's and the Grimms fairytale.
It's not a very ambitious project, with only three endings and a few hours worth of gameplay. I want to keep it small for my first VN.
I am coding it with Ren'Py.

I have already posted a thread about this project on Lemma Soft Forums, which is here

I will copy the games description from there.

Plot; I think everyone is familiar with Cinderella, but I'll explain my version in my own words.
Sinder is apart of a rich family, and has everything he could possibly want. Except for anyone to play with, as he's home-schooled.
He would sneak off into the woods, and one day, he met a young boy. The boy introduced himself as a prince, though Sinder didn't believe him.
The two would play every day, but eventually, Sinders mother grew ill.
With her passing away, the father decided to re-marry.
In comes the step-mother with her two daughters, Olivia and Fanny. Both of them immediately take a disliking to Sinder, forcing him to do their chores.
Sinder, as time went on, was forced to wear rags, instead of his pretty and well-kept clothes. Because of this, the prince stopped playing with Sinder- Leaving him all alone.
Years later, Sinder is now 17, constantly doing work and chores every day. He wants nothing more than to off his step-mother and sisters.
When suddenly, the family receives an invitation to the Kings grand festival, which will last for three days.
Finally, Sinder has a chance to meet the prince again. But what are his intentions with him?
After all these years, is he just going to let go of his hatred?

Progress; As of now, the draft for the demo is complete and I am currently re-writing it.
    No artwork is available yet.

Thank you for reading! I hope you can look forward toward my first project.

@Dergonu If something doesn't work, I always blame DRMs. ^^ Jokes aside, that's probably the case here. After all DRMs are kinda supposed to prevent you from messing around with stuff, and the patch does exactly that.
Yeah, I've had more than enough charages/moeges for now (read: forever) so that's a nope. And I already have something in mind...
Nah, it won't be anything hidden. But it won't be a VN either, so I probably won't post anything here - I'm planning to tackle one RPGMaker game that I found quite impressive and ULMF seems like a better forum for those. RPGMaker Trans seems noob-friendly enough, so I should be able to do the whole thing by myself.
If anyone's curious, I'm thinking of "涙声のギニヨル" (or "I am your Guignol" on DLSite EN). Not exactly for the faint of heart... but well, the fact that I like it should be enough of a warning.
  5. Thanks
EyesOfTheHeavens reacted to Pabloc in KonoSora / IMHHW ReTranslation patch
EDIT: Due to Fuwa anti-piracy rules this thread's usefulness was quite limited, since we couldn't ask for any files that we needed for further compatibility testing and the like. I'd say even posting direct links to our patch here was questionable to begin with, since it's not that different from the abovementioned files that we were asking for.
So in the end we decided to remove all links from here and move our main release thread to Reddit: LINK
That's where all further updates will be posted, so make sure to follow us there. I'll ask mods to lock this thread, since MeruP won't be checking it anyway, so all feedback should be posted on Reddit instead (we also have a dedicated thread for reporting bugs and other issues).

Been sitting on this VN for years, and finally got the restoration and sweetlove patches working. Was really happy with everything... until I got to Ageha's route. The quality just... crashed, for reasons mentioned way back at the start of this thread - poor translations and disjointed dialog - and it just soured my entire view of the scenes I noticed it in. Constantly wondering if what was being written was accurate, or even close to correct.
Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to the updated patch you all are working on. I really hope it'll be compatible with the steam version. Thanks for your hard work.

We finished the 1st QC pass. We still need to tweak some stuff, fix a few issues and then playtest the (hopefully) final version of the patch so it will take some time, but we're getting close~ish to releasing it.

EyesOfTheHeavens reacted to Dergonu in Any help with starting on becoming fluent in Japanese?
Having studied Japanese for close to three years now myself, through both self study and at a university, I'd say your best bet is finding a class at a nearby college/ university, if you can. Taking a class with native Japanese speaking professors is a 10x more efficent way of studying the language than trying to handle the task all by yourself.
That being said, if you're set on self study, then I recommend buying some proper textbooks to start with. There are many good online resources, but textbooks are generally less overwhelming. From experience, I find that self study in the early stages can easily lead you to the point where you think, "Ok, I'm done learning what this website had to offer! What now? Uh, I guess I'm basically fluent!" (Spoilers: you're not.) Your number 1 priority should be learning the kana, then you should combine grammar, kanji and vocabulary. Grammar being the most important, vocabulary coming second, and kanji third. But, you should not ignore any of them, as they are all pretty important.
I personally recommend the Genki books, as they give you a good introduction to the grammar forms that forms the base for the language. You also learn a decent amount of common use kanji, and a good chunk of helpful vocabulary. It also comes with a CD and a workbook, so you can test yourself using the workbook, and check that you aren't pronouncing anything incorrectly with the CD. (You might have to buy the workbook separately.)

One way is to buy the books they use for learning japanese at high school or universities and go through them to get the basics, I think the genki books works quite well for this. I would probably recommend mainly focusing on vocabulary first and foremost. Ofc by vocabulary I mean both the way things are said and the way they are written. First learn hiragana and katakana and then after that you should start to learn some of the easier kanji and then learn the harder ones as you progress.
Once you have goten some of the fundamentals down I would recommend using it on things that are easy to read. For example if you find a VN where all the characters are voice acted this will make it easier for you as you can combine your knowlegde of the kanji and pronounciation and thereby understand more of what is going on. Also these early VNs you read should have characters that are easy to understand, for instance by being expressive and maybe following known archetypes. Once you get better just progress to more difficult stuff. Ofc manga is also a nice option. Manga are written in furigana, meaning they have the pronounciation written in small text at the side of the kanji.
Ofc everyone learns best using different methods, this is the method I have used personally and while I am not fluent in japanese yet I have gone through some japanese VNs and it seems to work great for me.

There are a few threads floating around about this, and of course lots of stuff on the internet. Maybe start here:
Also, I find tofugu has a lot of good "how to learn Japanese"-type content, especially in how it presents a wide variety of views and goals; once you've figured out your main course of study, tofugu is pretty good as a way to read supplementary advice and maybe course-correct your studies a bit.
One important thing to understand is why you're learning Japanese. You seem to have a good idea of that, so next, make sure that the course of study you set for yourself is accumulating to those goals. There are lots of guides, courses, etc., out there. You'll want to make sure you pick the one that points you fairly directly at your specific goals.
    Brief protips:
Learn the syllabaries first Then study grammar (and sentences) constantly

As everyone already know, MoeNovel released crippled EN version of popular in Japan game Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete.
Both translation quality and removal of significant portion of game provide substandard experience to EN auditory, not worth the money they ask for it.

So here comes our project to fix at least some of these problems.

    First patch released!

    Notes for patch:
    1. Japanese locale needed!
    2. On Windows 7/8 you have to install game OUTSIDE of Program Files directory or use fixed bat files!

    3. One 100-lines script on Ageha route missed QC and editor there used [] instead proper quotes for spoken lines, fix is here: http://rghost.net/47445403 (Just replace old one in game folder with this file)

Next stage: QC everything, do TLC on MN part of route scripts, fix bugs with first patch. ETA for release: end of July, but obviously sooner if anything serious is spotted with first patch.

Still looking for more QC and TLC volunteers.

    Install Instructions:
    1. Open the "Majikoi English Patch." (Preferably as administrator.)

    2. Click "next." (Duh.)

    3. If you don't have Majikoi installed in the default directory, or don't have Japanese locale, navigate to the game location with the "Browse" button. Choose whatever folder has the まじこい.exe. If you don't have it, then re-install the game. Note: Sometimes, because of Windows pathfinder being stupid, even if you have it installed in the default directory and the locale is set to Japanese, the "next" button will still be gray. If that happens, just click "Browse," and then "open folder" without choosing anything. That should fix it. If not, just navigate to where the game is installed.

    4. Choose what to install. The English Patch contains all of Yandere's work (minus crack), and, of course, our own translations. "Uncensored Images" will replace all the adult images that contain censorship with fan-made uncensored versions, courtesy of Helvetica Standard. These can vary in quality.

    5. Click "install." Wait for it to install.

    6. Click "Finish."

Aaaaand you're done. Congratulations, you now have a completely English translated version of Majikoi!

    Important!
In order to make a non-legit copy of the game work, a cracked .exe is needed. Fuwanovel doesn't allow cracks because of legal issues, however. If you want to play the game with a pirated version, you'll have to find a crack for the game somewhere else. For anyone with a Yandere-patched version of the game, this is not important, as yours is already cracked and our patch doesn't overwrite the crack. For anyone else, try finding Yandere's version on torrent sites, or wait for an independent crack to be posted on websites such as [removed].

Un-install instructions (Useful if you don't like the uncensored images):
    1. Open "Majikoi English Patch Uninstall" in the folder you installed the patch to, aka your Majikoi folder.

    2. Click "next." (Duh.)

    3. Choose what content to install.

    4. Click "uninstall."

Done. Please note that the uninstaller simply restores the game to the state it was in before you patched it. So if you had Yandere's version before, and you installed both the English Patch and the uncensored images, and then uninstall them both, the game would revert back to just being Yandere's version.

There are seven chosen Masters, and seven classes of Servants. Only one master may seize the grail.

I'm not sure about otome games on PS Vita (if you have one) but Code:Realize is highly recommended. It's a steampunk story-focuses otome game with real-life and literary characters (Arsene Lupin, Victor Frankenstein, etc.)

Steam has a variety of otome games. Amnesia: Memories, Nightshade, and Ozmafia are the best Japanese localized otome games.
Amnesia: Memories A heroine with Amnesia who tries to regain her memories. It's kinda slice of life-ish but it can get really weird. It also has a lot of bad ends.
Nightshade: I really recommend this one because the MC is really amazing. She's basically a shinobi princess but other than that, anyrhing else counts as spoilers.
Ozmafia: Grimm's fairytale characters reimagined as Mafia members.
A Korean company, Cheritz also has a couple of localized ones- Nameless and Dandelion. Both are also well-regarded. Both are fully voiced in Korean.
There are also OELVNs that are quite good.  Backstage Pass is fully voiced in English. It has stats-raising though. Games without voices that are good are X-Note, Area-X, The Royal Trap, and Mystic Destinies.
There's a pretty notable free game on Steam too. Cinderella Phenomenon is free, has an interesting story and has maybe 25+ hours of content. Itch.io and the lemmasoft forums have a lot of free EVN otomes like Asagao Academy, Airis, and Lads in Distress.

You didn't especified anything so I'll just throw suggestions at random here:
    - DMMD (translated): BL starting point of a lot of people, upbeat but have some strange things.
    - Omerta  (partial translation): Pretty cool BL about mafia guys. Usually serious, but have it's fun moments.
    - Shingakkou (untranslated): Very good BL with horror elements (not gore, more supernatural stuff). Very long and have some sensitive themes if you don't mind.
    - Luckydog1 (untranslated, but there's a blog around with translations of a few routes): Very stylish BL about guys escaping from a prison. It's violent though.
    - Dot Kareshi (translated): Funny otome that isn't just a date sim. There are three episodes (episode 2 is the best)
    - Norn9 (translated): A otome with a (messy) plot but it's more focused in romance. There's three protagonist to choose!
