I'm excited for this and really hoping it will be successful enough to get the fandiscs funded as well (apparently they'll be stretch goals).

Tama-nee in To Heart 2 is an ojou-sama, but then her ojou-sama lifestyle isn't much the focus of the plot. The one I know that most fits what you're probably looking for is unfortunately untranslated Prima Stella where every heroine is an ojou-sama.

You're in for a real treat - hope you enjoy it :D. Little Busters is a genuinely fantastic VN.

What'd you think of Princess Evangile, btw?

This. Some parts of it are divisive (to say the least) but IMO it was one of the better VNs I've read this year and I agree with adamstan - it's definitely worth a read.
Just do yourself a favor and watch the anime (if you decide to) after reading the VN, and not before.

    Wagamama High Spec
    Summary
The story revolves around Narumi Kouki, a high school student who also draws a manga serialized in a weekly magazine. Because the manga he draws is a risqué romantic comedy, he keeps this fact a secret from everyone around him, with his younger sister Toa and his sister's best friend Mihiro being the only ones who know.

But one day, as the student council president Rokuonji Kaoruko is searching for male members for the student council, she finds out that Kouki is the manga's author. Kouki joins the student council in exchange for Kaoruko not revealing his secret. However, the vice president, Sakuragi R. Ashe, strongly opposes him joining, and in the midst of all this, various requests and troubles of students begin to pile up.

Well, steam should act professional and actually give developers a reason for removing a game on steam. Deleting and ignoring sounds pretty childish.

they aren't gonna get much better. In fact, some of them are kinda ludicrous and have no relation to one another whatsoever (except for "crossing paths" and "the bond of marriage")

Well, I just got the "crossing paths" ending in Root Letter. I hope the other ones are better. The whole thing has been kind of a disappointment so far. It is really relaxing and roaming around an unknown town trying to solve a mystery can be fun, but I thought it would be so much better.

I'm the same. Both are good when used right. It's also okay with me if there's some "main heroine", who's given some more attention, even when there's no "True End". Like, in abovementioned Princess Evangile all routes stand on their own, but at the same time we could say that Rise was made somewhat "special" due to her backstory and the fact that she's the one who starts the whole thing.
It's also interesting when there's some attempt to tie route system itself into the story - like in Little Busters or YU-NO.

For me it depends on the VN. For instance Eroge sex and games makes sexy games and Princess Evangile works best as multi ending, for both of them I feel like it is important that each heroine's route manages to stand on its own as a true possibility rather than one route being much more important than the others. However some like euphoria or Date A Live Rinne Utopia works best as VNs with a true route. In their cases they manage to use the previous routes to build up the story towards the true end in a satisfying way. So for me it is not so much what I prefere as it is what I think fits the VN in question.

For what it's worth I'm a really big PE fan, got the VN during the Humble Bundle sale, and read the all ages version. I haven't yet read the 18+ release yet but the all ages release didn't feel like it was missing anything and I didn't feel like it was cut, or frankly even notice the edits. Like adamstan said, if you do want to read the 18+ version it's on sale so may as well get it while it's discounted, but I don't think there'd be as drastic a difference between the releases to the point where one is clearly superior over the other. IMO it'd definitely be worth a read if you like the premise, and it's my third favorite VN (I'd give it a 9 out of 10).

Got Little Busters, eden*, Aviary Attorney, Analogue & Hate Plus and Crypt of the Necrodancer (not a VN, but for some reason cheaper if you own the Danganronpa games). Now I have to live on rice and potatoes for the next week but sometimes you have to set priorities.

snowbell55 reacted to Clephas in What do you consider to be a VN, and do you trouble yourself with the definition?
This kind of thread pops up every two years or so...  but the basic rule of thumb is the existence of extensive narration and the use of a text box in the ADV or NVL style (though there are exceptions).  VNs must always try to tell a story, even if it is nothing more than excuse for sex scenes.  While I mention narration above, someone is eventually going to point out Lamunation, which has almost no narration and the story is told almost entirely through dialogue.
There are hardline parts of the community that don't even want to accept Eushully-type games as VNs because of the existence of gameplay.  there are also more liberal parts of the community that want to consider most jrpgs that even hint at VN elements as VNs.  However, the fact is, you have to draw the line somewhere.
A few comments.  Persona generally gets excluded because the VN elements are actually far closer to dating sim elements than visual novel ones.  Dating sims, while they retain some similarities to a VN on the surface, rarely tell a story and are focused on simulation of a romance, often using social stats such as are seen in the Persona games.
Personally, I find the inclusion of Ar Tonelico to be almost equally questionable, because the Cosmosphere is not so much telling a story as exploring the psyches of the heroines... though it does effect the story greatly at times.
Understand, if you play any Eushully game, then play a normal jrpg afterward, you will immediately see the differences... even if that other jrpg is Persona.  Simply put, Persona games' story is dependent on its gameplay, whereas a true VN hybrid's gameplay is an appendage to the story.  The differences are obvious when taken subjectively, but objectively, they are hard to describe.

Mangagamer is having a black friday sale which will last through 1st Desember http://blog.mangagamer.org/2018/11/23/black-friday-hardcopy-sale-2018/
The sale is 25% of on all of their physical copies and seemingly also their physical goods. While the discounts are not quite as large as digital sales such as the current steam sales, 25% of is still a pretty good offer when it comes to physical editions as they much more rarely get sales and the discounts generally stay around this point. So I would recommend checking the sales out if you are interested in owning physical copies of VNs.

So, the Steam Autumn Sale is upon us with dozens upon dozens of discounts on VNs. While I don't think it's quite as insane as the last summer sale was (and Winter sale most likely will be in a month and a half),  there are some very cool offers, like the nice -72% on Clannad Bundle or the first major discount for Requiem for Innocence. I've also, of course, made a blog post about the best deals for EVNs - not too many great ones there, but the -90% for Analogue: A Hate Story and Hate Plus is absolutely awesome.
So, what are your impressions with this sale so far? Have you seriously endangered your survival through reckless feeding of your enormous backlogs yet?

I get the feeling the Switch is going to have a lot of VNs coming to it in the near (and distant) future, but if you're already concerned about the supply running out then sticking to PC (where the supply is far bigger) or learning Japanese (which should have many more options available) would be advisable, and in the case of learning Japanese it'd mean that you don't have to wait for localizations of titles you're interested in to come along.

Personally, no. I find it a bit heavy (though I don't use tablets so much) and as far as controlling it, the right stick is (for me) in an comfortable position so it makes the area just before where the thumb connects to the palm cramp up after some time. Admittedly if you use auto read that's not as likely to be an issue. I find the Vita's smaller size and lighter weight to be more comfortable in general, though.
And IMO yes it would be a worthwhile endeavor if you can. It's going to take you a while to do, obviously, and it can be pretty intimidating, but if you figure VNs are that important to you and you'd still be reading them in 5 years then it'd be a good idea. It'll also unlock the ability to consume other content like LNs and manga without waiting for translations. Chances are you're interested in at least some of those.

Currently I am doing this list as well as monthly physical visual novel news and reviews of VNs that I own physical copies of where I also show the physical edition as well as pictures covering my entire physical VN collection. I wonder if there is any other content focusing on physical VNs I could do that would be interesting and raise awareness for physical copies so if anyone has any suggestions please tell me. With physical sales so low that MG only does physicals for VNs that sell quite well and Nekonyansoft only doing physicals for their largest titles while their other titles are undecided I hope some of the content I make will make it so that the physical sales are better so that more VNs also release in physical format and not only digital format, well that is at least my aim though I doubt it makes much of a difference.

As long as there is still an anime industry and western fans we will get anime. As for VNs well that is more so based on whether the VN fandom in the west buys enough to maintain a market, while people who are into VNs mainly came from anime I doubt a decline in anime will have major impact on the current VN community. I don't really think it is likely that VNs will dissapear completely in the west, rather what I am worried about is a decline in amount of titles and some current publisher shutting down due to oversaturation causing lower sales. Though even if we were to somehow get the worst case scenario where no more VNs were to be made or translated, there would still be lots of them to read even only taking the english market into consideration. Also if it matters to you that much you could also just learn japanese and then you would have an insane amount of titles available to read.

snowbell55 reacted to bakauchuujin in Pessimism on VN community
I think saturation is actually a much bigger potential problems for VNs in general than most other mediums. VNs are usually rather long compared to most medium. If you for instance decrease the price of VNs the sales might not increase that much since a lot of those who buys VNs won't have time to read it all. If you just build up a really long backlog you will probably end up only buying the most highly rated of the new stuff regardless of it costing almost nothing or consting a decent amount. With VNs you then also have to not only think about how much a customer is willing to pay but also how much time they have to read. As for how the current market is increasing in terms of amount of released titles I am a bit worried that there simply won't be a large enough community to actually keep the translation companies going. So even if we assumed that the fanbase didn't get bored of it I still think the saturation poses a problem.
