Here's a gameplay video in English (not really NSFW but there's a scantily clad girl all through it so don't really open it in public)
This + one look at the steam page really seems to corroborate bakauchuujin's statement. The very low price, the fact 90% of this game forum is in Chinese (although I never confirmed if their Chinese translations are legit), and the text on the video that, while not MTL (I guess?), clearly reads as something a non-native with very average grasp of the language would write just screams SakuraGame.
Also funny you guys mention punctuation when, according to that video, no sentence ever get a full stop, they just kinda fades into nothing, incomplete even sometimes wwwww

It's extremely hard to make me emotional, but I'd still like to make my case here. I usually don't tear up, I rather get pangs of satisfaction along the lines of "Thank you for blessing me with this powerful/well written scene". Rather than tearjerky they are generally more like memorable scenes for me.
    Those include:
Saya no Uta (A very recent read, so it might just still be relevant for me)
    Shining Song Starnova
    Family Project

The only VN that actually made me tear up was Harukoi Otome, but I think that was more related to my state of mind at the time I read it and it's basically my proof for not being a robot.

For some reason backstories in general have a harder time to impact me, the disconnect of time and seeing the results they had beforehand often takes the edge off for me.

Overall, Fata Morgana, Little Busters and maybe Planetarian are the only VNs that I remember quite literally made me cry. Maybe there are other VNs that I forgot. And in case of the later two VNs, it wasn't really due to anyone's backstories. So, I'm just going to talk about backstories that made me feel generally melancholic, even if I didn't really think like crying. Some of them touched me more than the others.
Not in any particular order. Putting the names of the characters into the spoiler boxes, major spoilers will be in the double spoilers.
Umineko - lots of characters, but there are two obvious backstories that make me pretty sad. To avoid direct spoilers, I'll say:
    Higurashi -
's backstory is actually pretty messed up if you stop to think about it.
    Narcissu - the whole cast.
Fata Morgana - basically, half of the cast. Especially
Katahane - it's not really anyone's backstory in a strict sense, but the whole Kurohane chapter was pretty touching, especially
Edit. Oh, and forgot about it since it isn't in my voted list, but while I'm not really a fan of Himawari, there were a few character's whose backtories were pretty touching.

So, I mentioned this in another thread but I'm currently reading Fata Morgana and dear lord, they weren't lying when they said it's a VN about people suffering. Just finished door 7 and that was really painful. Much like a lot of VNs I rated in the 9s it have pure sadness backstories so it's looking good for the final score of FataMoru.
And from those feelings that comes my question. Who are the characters that you think that suffered so much you can't help but want to protect them from all evil? Or well, characters that have the most awful backstories that even if they deserved it because they're awful themselves you still feel pity for them?
Alternatively, I know some people might not like to go through stories that aren't only happy feelings all around, then did you ever felt like crying because some route outcome was so so happy and so so satisfying or is it just me?

Let's relive those tragedies, bring me your tears.

Hey, your VNDB list is... Quite something.
Anyway, I think I have a different problem, because as I'm getting old(er) and becoming more of certified failure at life, reading coming-of-age high school stories becomes kind of taxing. The heroines themselves though, they only rarely feel like actual highschoolers. For example, if I remember well, the main cast of Flowers are all high school freshmen, so 15-years-olds. However, they neither look nor act the part. The notion of age is all so abstract in both VNs and much of anime that I'll probably have to get much older to start feeling that dissonance.
On the other hand, I don't really get off to otaku media in the first place, so the "cute little animal" kind of appeal shouldn't spoil my enjoyment. I'll skip the h-scenes either way and the romance should still be satisfying enough.

I used to mainly care about how appealing the looks of the heroines are and only care about personalities when it came to chemistry with the protagonist, but as i got older the anime traits of high-school heroines made me see them more as small animals rather than girls i'd actually bang. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

So, as we're still in the time of yearly recollections and were talking recently about VNs we liked the most, what are the titles that crushed your hopes and dreams? Which ones were not plain bad, but rather fell short of your's and everyone else's expectations, to the point of turning your hearts into an emotionless void?
For me, the answer is pretty simple: Crystalline and (sorry @ds-sans :() Chemically Bonded. Both games were really well-produced visually and had good sound designs, but absolutely fell apart when it goes to telling a story. The main difference between them is that while Crystalline was absolutely devoid of meaningful plot and tension, Chemically Bonded made a few bizarre missteps with its writing and structure of the story, breaking the flow of the romance, particularly in the tsundere heroine's route. Neither were anywhere close to being among worst EVNs of the year, but definitely had most wasted potential.
So, what are your guys' greatest regrets of 2019 in VN form? :3

Oh, it's a prequel fandisk, and it's a lot shorter than the original game. I believe, it's about the length as one or two chapters from the game. Still, I definitely recommend it if you like Fata Morgana!
Edit. Well, "just as good as the original game" was a bit of an overstatement. I should've said "just as good as any chapter in the original game".

Maybe we'll get a proper Fate/Stay Night remake with a Western release. In like 15 years. 8-10 years after they finally finish the Tsukihime one.

Overall, I'd say, my impression about the first two chapters were pretty similar to yours.
As of chapter 3, I've heard multiple complaints about it, but I personally loved it, and it was actually the point when I became really interested in the game.
Chapter 4 felt a bit underwhelming at first
Starting with chapter 5 the game becomes even better. I didn't include chapters 6 and 8 in my favorites only because I needed not to include something. Every chapter has some really strong moments, and overall, I'd say, it's the second half that makes this game as good as it is. I'd love to hear your reactions about the later chapters!
And there's also Requiem for Innocence, which is just as good as the original game. I cried like a little girl at some scenes.

Well, I guess we can use it for some late comers discussion   he's also very welcome to give his impressions!
I'm tempted to choose chapter 5 as the best one for now, but I still have more to see, I'm on the part where
On to the others (I'll break it into 2 spoilers if Stormwolf wants to join the discussion)
    About chapter 1 and 2...
    About chapters 3, 4 and 5...

By the way, I hope Stormwolf will forgive me for a slight off-topic, but what's your favorite chapter so far? Personally I think I liked chapters 3, 5 and 7 the most.

I've been reading this one as well (on 5th door, really fantastic) and I'm not using any walkthrough and it's as Dreamysyu says: it's a very easy game to wander on your own. Got 3 bad endings so far, but it was very obvious what could trigger them so I did that on purpose just to see what they were about (heard they are interesting).
    So some tips:
    - If a game give you a choice for you to get an extra item/receive information/most likely keep the conversation going, pick this one over the one to cut the scene short/ignore it all (actually this works for like 99% of VNs). 9 out of 10 times it's the right one.
    - Getting both this one choice after the second door + one after third door (I won't spoil but it's about the painting) right unlocks the necessary choice for the True Ending, but the choices for the bad endings will still be there if you want to see them. So there's literally zero purpose to pick them wrong.

Happy reading   is happy the right choice of words for FataMoru tho?

to be quite honest, it's a fucking miracle I'm still around playing VNs after actually reading and not skipping through that one first sex scene in FSN as my first h-scene ever. it's that low quality.

    This is semantics.
If you consider any game with sex in it to be Hentai, then yes.
If you consider any game where the focus is the sex scenes to be Hentai, then no.
The term usually thrown around is eroge, from 'erotic'+'game'.

From Novectacle official Twitter, they actually addressed porting the updated version to pc, but apparently there's some licensing issue to overcome (because of the voices? Because they need the okay from dramatic create, their partner for the console ports? It's not clear).
Regardless, this sucks, especially since I own a ps4 but for whatever reason the game is not available in my country's ps store (Yeah, I know, you can create another account, vpn, international credit card and shit, but that's way more effort than my lazy bum is willing to go through, also regional pricing).
