MaggieROBOT reacted to Plk_Lesiak in BL terms and their use in the west
Very cool post, I still sometimes have problems with seperating how certain terms are used in Japan, among western otaku and in other fandoms, they flow through different communities pretty much gaining seperate meanings in every one of them. :]
BTW, talking about pedophilia in connection to Japanese media is always a bit risky thing to do, the first thing it that it's a medical term that is generally overused in various contexts, the second one is that it pretty strictly relates to sexual attraction to pre-puberty children (basically primary school-age kids or younger), so there's a lot of questionable sexual scenarios that doesn't really fit the term, even if they're within the definition of "child porn" by western standards or would be simply socially unacceptable.

Yeah, I found it a bit lame too. But self insert...
It's complete already, VNDB is wrong. All three stories were 100% translated, choices, menus and all that. The only thing that had no way to be translated in game was some audio commentaries that are unlocked after you finish a route (jp voices and no subs whatsoever). Go ahead and have fun! I'll add that to the review, actually.

Nice review Maggie!
So the women doesn't have eyes like a typical nukigie protagonist? That's weird. It also seems a shame that she doens't have any dialogue

Hope you'll enjoy them. :3 In March I'll put a few more yuri-themed posts (I read more Shoujo-Ai than anything else really, so they pretty much have to show up a lot), but for now I want to work on that Otome Month thing I previously planned for January.
Syrup is also great if you look for something to cheer you up - that basically goes to most things Nami does, I'm working on a separate post about her work, although if I don't change my schedule it will show up somewhere in late March.

More short free gay things for me to consume. The Emmeline one sounds pretty sweet.

If only the game were for a different audience. That guy is one cute trap for sure.

Oh boy, time to go to their website and download the trial for this―
Curse you and your racism, Japan.

MaggieROBOT reacted to Kenshin_sama in The Sad Fact about Replaying VNs
For me, it's all about conditions. Even with the best anime I've ever watched, I usually won't retain information about them for very long. When I read or watch anything, I can only retain enough information to argue over it for a year. It takes somewhere between 8 to 10 years for me to forget something entirely. And see, that's the problem I had with re-reading Little Busters. Because the story is still so fresh in my memory from the 2013 anime adaption, I'm having some difficulty re-reading the whole thing from the beginning to get to the EX routes. I did want to learn the differences between the version I read way back and what I'm reading now, but I think I'll just take a pass.

MaggieROBOT reacted to Plk_Lesiak in Carpe Diem: Reboot (failed VN)
Unknown. She ordered a few boxes of mysterious stuff and put it together with robot arms. Under a blanket. In what I presume is contemporary setting. Nothing is ever explained. The machinery she used is "thrown away" by her soon after she wakes up in her human form, relieving the writer from the burden of coming up with an actual account of how she did it.
Why he didn't make her a human-looking robot is beyond me. There's an idea that Ai wanted to be a human and becuase of that created an exact replica when she could've made something much more efficient and durable, but it's not explored in a way that would compensate for the absurdity and lazy writing in that first chapter.

Two things:
1) Why give her a "human" body if it's not for porn reasons? And where did she buy a human body????????????? Creepy.
2) How can someone even fuck up a story with an AI/robot love interest???????????
Anyway, thanks for saving me too. If I found this randomly, I could have read it. And bad fanfics are only good when they are 11/10 bad.

MaggieROBOT reacted to Plk_Lesiak in [Review] Shingakkou ~Noli me Tangere~
Well, it was super-informative and made me want to play a game in the genre that is pretty much at the very bottom of my preferred romance scenarios, just above futa and trap, so I would call it a success. :3
I guess all fan projects have the tendency to die like that, I know much more about the modding scene than TLs, but in both cases I'm impressed that anyone even attempts doing something which involves such obscene amounts of work. :s Well, one more reason to take certain common advice around here to heart. I think I will have to slow down on writing stuff to actually get back on track with my Japanese lessons though. "Remember, you have posts prepared for the next month and a half, you don't need to make a new one every week. No need to get fixated on that. You can do it all slowly and steadily. Be cool." *hyperventilating into a bag*

Thanks >.< My first review didn't failed!
Last time I checked, the translation stalled and people just went silent. But it's a damn long game, I can't blame them. I read it with my half assed japanese and some dicts for help with most kanjis and it took... way longer than necessary...

Great review. I've seen on VNDB that someone is possibly working on fan translation of this? Although I might just leave this one for that time three-four years from now, when I know Japanese somewhat decently and have already played through every worthwhile yuri VN there is, and I can finally delve into BL with no regrets.

I always wanted to play that VN since I own both anime seasons of it, but because of Otomate's PC paranoia the title was only available on consoles for the most time and I only play PC titles.
They seem to have lightened up a bit recently, since the title is now available on Steam. Unfortunately, it's apparently not complete yet, so I'm waiting for the full version.

Yeah, if you don't know the milking otomate, it surely looks like a fanfic XD
The main game have way more killing and sad backstories than your average otomege, so guess they did it for milk to make it super super happy, start to finish, but the conclusions are already nice and good. Just the path until the end is not that much.

Hah, the part about AU high school spin-off got me by surprise. It sounds like an adaptation of a bad fanfic.
In a way I wish that was done more often though, sometimes after reading through a really tragic or suspenseful VN I wish I could see a story where these characters get a happy ending. Is the main game depressing enough to justify it? I usually think of otome as games that have a happy, romantic conclusion at least as one of the options.

MaggieROBOT got a reaction from Plk_Lesiak in BL games from Kickstarter!
Hey hey, are you implying that the usual BL fans are slightly psychopath already so we have to be full-on to break the norm? Who am I kidding, this kinda makes sense!
I never tried to write a proper review of something, but I'm planning to do one next month (let's see how this will turn out ), but I'll be better at it by the time the game is out! So yeah, you can wait for it in 2019! BRING IT ON!

MaggieROBOT reacted to Plk_Lesiak in BL games from Kickstarter!
I don't think I'll ever go far enough in VN diversity appreciation to play BL, but if I ever do, it will probably be 1st degree. I don't see one crucial question answered anywhere though - can you just kill everyone?

MaggieROBOT reacted to Plk_Lesiak in Otomes from Kickstarter!
Yeah, but what's even more curious to me is that if we can believe VNDB ratings, some of the best western VNs ever made are otome (or otome-hybrids of some sort), while very few people talk about them. There must be something wrong with how these games are marketed, because when I look how many shitty otome games you can find on mobile, it's hard for me to believe there's no market for quality ones. ;]

The Masquerade Killer looks quite interesting IMHO, I actually have the previous game by that developer, AIRIS, on the top of my to-read list - also quite a unique looking thing, but mostly overlooked, even while being free on Steam. I guess otome games simply don't have that many enthusiasts on the platform, compared to yuri for example.
