  1. Edit the following file with notepad+ or the like: Library\Frameworks\Sakura\py\scripts\getedict.py Lines 53 to 63, change to this: with SkProfiler("fetch"): # gzip=True to automatically extract gzip # flush=false to use more memory to reduce disk access if sknetio.getfile(url, path + '.gz', flush=False, gzip=False): import gzip, shutil with gzip.open(path + '.gz') as f_in, open(path, 'wb') as f_out: shutil.copyfileobj(f_in, f_out) skfileio.removefile(path + '.gz') ok = skfileio.filesize(path) > minsize if not ok and os.path.exists(path): skfileio.removefile(path) Overwrite the old lines, after this line 64 and 65 should be "dprint("leave: ok = %s" % ok)" and "return ok" If this doesn't work, go to Caches\tmp and look for a file named edict2u, unzip it with 7z and place the file named the same to Caches\tmp (overwrite the old one) and try to install again.
  2. Strange, I downloaded ATLAS from there too and it worked just fine. This happens before or after you apply the crack? Or, you completely uninstalled it before attempt to reinstall?
  3. Are you sure you're using the right executable? ATLAS installer is named "ATLASV14ETrial.exe" and NOT "ATLASdictionary201X.exe". Set your date around 2008 and run the first file I mentioned. At least, when I got this same error before, that was what I did wrong. Aaaaand, you know, even ATLAS gets engrish results here and there. If this game have too much kana on text, ATLAS will give you some really poor translations (not sure why, but I noticed that is the case).
  4. You didn't especified anything so I'll just throw suggestions at random here: - DMMD (translated): BL starting point of a lot of people, upbeat but have some strange things. - Omerta (partial translation): Pretty cool BL about mafia guys. Usually serious, but have it's fun moments. - Shingakkou (untranslated): Very good BL with horror elements (not gore, more supernatural stuff). Very long and have some sensitive themes if you don't mind. - Luckydog1 (untranslated, but there's a blog around with translations of a few routes): Very stylish BL about guys escaping from a prison. It's violent though. - Dot Kareshi (translated): Funny otome that isn't just a date sim. There are three episodes (episode 2 is the best) - Norn9 (translated): A otome with a (messy) plot but it's more focused in romance. There's three protagonist to choose!
  5. Problem is, none of those let you add your own subtitles. I'm trying to help people that want to translate the games without making patches and such (that are a pain for some engines). We have those options for just machine translation, sure, but none of those have this feature. Waiting for MangaGamer or JAST to translate stuff is not exactly the best option...
  6. Some of you already noticed, but VNR server is down so you can't download subtitles other users uploaded nor upload your own. Messing around with VNR files, I found the file of the shared dictionary on the following path: Visual Novel Reader\Caches\Sync. I have this file containing subtitles uploaded up to november/2016. Putting it on that folder, you'll not need to connect to the server to access it. (I read the VNR license and it says it's okay to redistribute its files): http://www.mediafire.com/file/5bop10t7y0cg22s/gamedic.xml The second problem is that lots of people can't seem to add new terms to this file. But since it's a XML file, I think you can edit it with Visual Studio. I didn't test it yet, since I have limited knowledge of programming, but I'm planning to try it next week or so. But if someone more experienced want to help me, I'll be glad! And lastly, user Lefterstein and I discovered where the user subtitles (not only terms) are located and they seem to work exactly like the terms file. If one person have the full subtitle file for a game (they are separated by game), then another person download it and put it in this folder Visual Novel Reader\Caches\Subtitles\xml, it will work perfectly, not needing to download it off the server. They seem a lot harder to edit than the terms file, but I'm not experienced enough to judge. Unfortunately, this still don't resolve the problem to create new subtitles from scratch, for a game that have none. But this seems a good alternative to retrieve fan translations that aren't patched directly in the game, like Cage-Open- (https://vndb.org/v10694) or Sakuya (https://vndb.org/v13035). It's so sad that some of them are lost because of the servers. So guys, check the aforementioned folder and look which subtitles you have. Maybe we could share with other users these files so everyone can play these games without using machine translations. Any help is appreciated!
  7. Servers are down. VNR will not connect. What you want to do? You can install dictionaries manually.
  8. I'll definitely check it out (I'm not that good with japanese, but maybe I'll manage)! Thank you!!! Nurse Love is getting better by the minute...
  9. Nurse Love Addiction and Aoishiro seems promising (fingers crossed). Thanks!!
  10. Kindred Spirits seems nice and if you're telling me it's the best, I'll trust and try! Thanks for the suggestion!!!
  11. As title said. I'm trying to read a bit of everything and I already tried chuuniges, horror, nakige, otomeges and BL stuff but no Yuri. None seems to grab my attention, the ones I see are too nukige-like for me. So Yuri fans, help me please! Romantic and cute ones, with plot!
  12. I second this ^ Inganock is pretty good! Saya no Uta is another popular and it's a must. Umineko seems nice too, but I never read it myself. Now, if you want to try new things... I would like to recommend a otome, but you don't seem to like those kinda things (one I read had other things beside romance and was pretty funny, but the fights are far from epic, so nvm. I wanted so much to drag someone else in the otome hell where I stand). So, for my obscure recommendation, if you don't have anything against RPG Maker games that are as VN as Danganronpa (where you read things more than walk around), try 1bitHeart (it's pretty cute and have a vibe like the Social Links of Persona 3/4).
  13. Did you try to add the game with the wizard? This works better than simply dragging the icon. And also, remember to do this with the icon of the clean install version, not a cracked one. Also, I kinda found the VNR subtitles files in my PC, and since I played this game a while ago I can give you the subtitles I have. Maybe this will solve your disappearing subtitles problem (usually, this problem solves itself when you restart VNR and you turn your internet connection off and on again, but...) What I have is: Full Tachibana's, Kiryu's and Ugajin's route, half of Azusa's route, almost nothing of Master's, Luca's and Liu's route (if I recall correctly).
  14. Visual Novel Reader\Library\Dictionaries\ehnd\UserDict_@sokcuri_name I don't know if it's the right one, but that entire folder have files like this. I can't do much with limited japanese and zero korean and chinese. If someone understands how to edit this, let me know. I'm with the same problem.
  15. In Final Fantasy VII and IX, here and there you will find some teasing and cute scenes, but they are not that focused in romance. Final Fantasy VIII and X romance plays a bigger role in the plot. Final Fantasy XII and XIII there's just some ships, barely anything.
  16. - I Am Setsuna (kinda old school, like the older Final Fantasies, if you don't mind) - Final Fantasy XIII or XIV ("fits better the 3d real time gameplay with good graphics" part) - Atelier Series
  17. Seems to be a problem with the H-code. The things you could do are: 1) See if the code was deleted by another user. When the novel is open and running, go to the side menu, and go to "Menu" then "Text Preferences" then "Edit H-Code". Enter this same code "/HS8:20@3A730:BGI.exe" and click save. 2) Try a different/ custom H-Code that works better. I found these ones around, but I think they only work wit the trial version of Senmomo: /HS8:20@35640:BGI.exe and /HAN4@36B75:BGI.exe (If these don't work, the game will probably crash). You can try asking around for codes or looking on hongfire. 3) Some VNs will only work with one of the hookers, and it isn't always VNR. Some only hook properly with ITH, while other only work with ITHVNR. Maybe you should try another engine.
  18. If the novel used to work with VNR, you can try restoring your system (Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore). Just pick the first date before the error started. This solves a lot of these sudden errors. If it never worked properly, I'll wait for your screenshot. Never heard of a error like this one before.
  19. ^THIS! And don't forget the "gentle kingdom" and "everyone is alone" lines... And his name was Gasai, Caesar was his alias. God, he was the best character and I really wanted a route where the MC sided with him. Maybe that would make the novel better! Such a waste...
  20. What a strange error... First, the novel freezes when you go back to the main menu even without VNR? If yes, maybe this is a installation error (of the novel, not VNR). Did it work before? Did you change any of your computer configurations? When you restart, some green circle is on the bottom left of the screen or some old notifications like "Game window closed" are in the top right without going away? If yes, VNR just stop responding along with the novel. Close and open VNR again, it might work.
  21. Hey, guys! This is my first post here, but since I saw tons of unresolved issues in older threads, I decided to take the time to sign up and do this faq to help everyone. (I didn't want to necro the oher thread >.< : https://forums.fuwanovel.net/topic/4709-fixes-to-common-problems-with-visual-novel-reader/) I use the VNR frequently and put it to work both on Windows 8 and 10, so I'll try to write all the issues I already encounter and how I resolved them. First, remember to change your system locale to japanese. This solve a ton of problems you might encounter. Okay, here we go: 1) VNR is not translating anything! When the novel is open and running, go to te side menu, and go to "Menu" then "Preferences". 1.1 I'm using offline translators Check in "Locations"-->"Translators" if the path to your dictionaries is correct. Then, check in "Translation"-->"Translators" if LEC or ATLAS is enabled. Scroll down, they are some of the last options. 1.2 I'm using online translators Check in "Translation"-->"Translators" if the one you like is enabled. And, of course, check if your internet connection is okay. Restart the novel. Still nothing? See below. 2) VNR is not translating choices/ some part of the text! This one can be kinda tricky. When the novel is open and running, with text displaying, go to te side menu, and go to "Menu" then "Text Preferences". Check the first option "Keep all threads blah blah blah", save the changes in the blue "SAVE" button in the top left, close and go back. You should see lots of boxes with the text threads. Okay, if the only things you're seeing are gibberish full of numbers, change the text enconding until you find boxes with kanji and the like (or whatever is displaying in the VN screen). Okay, now you need to select the boxes that are displaying THE SAME TEXT THAT IS THE VN SCREEN. Above the box are four options, "dialog", "name", "other" and "ignore". Click in the "dialog" option of the box with the correct and complete text. That should do the trick. No box is displaying the right text? Try another scene of the VN, in New Game (not a saved file) for example. Believe it or not, this actually worked for me once. The right box simply didn't appear in all scenes. Figures... But once you check it in one scene, it will work for all the others. You'll not need to do these steps ever again. But if the text disappears after all this (if you managed to make it work), every time you start your novel, see if the "Keep all threads..." option is checked. When I used VNR in Windows 8.1, for some reason every time I quit the novel, VNR unchecked this option. So you may have to check it again. For choices, you have to do almost the same method. But you have to find the boxes with THE SAME TEXT OF THE CHOICES (Each option should be in a different box) and click in the "other" option above all of them. VNR can't have more than one box selected as "dialog", so select them as "other". Be careful that you may need to scroll up the VNR subtitle to see all of the translations, since it will separate the choices with line breaks. Then again, tons of VNs simply repeat the text of the choices after you select them. So, you can always just save before, select, read and load. Then, why not submit a commentary on VNR with the text of choices? 3) Duplicate text! When the novel is open and running, go to te side menu, and go to "Menu" then "Text Preferences". Check the second "Eliminate infinite repetition..." or the third option "Ignore infinite cyclic repetition", and then save the changes in the blue "SAVE" button in the top left. 4) The side menu you keep mentioning simply vanished! As soon as the novel open, go to "Menu" and uncheck "Auto Hide", it's one of the last options. 5) Original text in the VNR subtitles... When the novel is open and running, go to te side menu, and go to "Option" then uncheck "Game Text", the first option on the left. 6) How do I change the text alignment? When the novel is open and running, go to te side menu, and go to "Option" then uncheck "Text Aligns Center", the fifth option on the right. 7) Text is being ignored because is too long! When the novel is open and running, go to te side menu, and go to "Option" then put the "Length" option in the left at max (500, the bar will be entirely blue) 8 ) Subtitle box is in a weird place of the screen... Hover the cursor around the subtitle box until a tiny box with a x and a music note appears above it. Now click and hold in this tiny box (beside the + symbol) to drag the subtitle. Ta dah! After that, right click in the subtitle box and click save position then lock position. I'll keep updating this, if anyone wants. Maybe add some screenshots...
  22. Comyu is a meh novel, but the translation is not that bad (Cross Channel tires you a lot more). I was interested in it at first too, but in the end I left disappointed. The potential of the plot is completely wasted. But there some likeable characters and some parts are really fun. But it's your common chuunige.
